with games such as Grand theft auto: San Andreas, driv3r,true crime, etc. the competition is fierce and a game like this won't cut it. first when max talks it sounds like he is mumbling second the graphics suck third the game just sucks in general i am so glad i got this used for $6 i bet it was returned because it was too dumb for the previous owner. i saw it at EB games for only $5 that must mean it sucks and i read rockstar game the rights to remedy because the sales for the sequel max payne 2 were so low i have no clue how this was made a "greatest hit" play GTA or true crime instead

I DON'T SEE HOW ANY1 COULD GET ANY ENJOYMENT WITH THIS GAME. I MEEN SURE THE GAME IS OK BUT REALLY THEIR R FRIGIN COMIC STRIPS EVERY 5 SECONDS. PEOPLE'S HEADS FLY THROUGH THE WALL AND WAT THE HELL'S WITH THE MATRIX STUFF. ALMOST EVERYTIME U KILL SOME1 IT GOES TO A LITTLE SCENE WEN THEY DIE ALL DRAMATIC. IN MY OPINON THIS ISN'T WORTH ANYTHING.[...].

This is a great game. I have all the cheats so I have all the levels right from the start.I play all sorts of them.It's a very freaky starting in Maxes House. Overall its a very good game and I would recommend it to people 13 and over. If you get the cheat of unlimited health then you survive the whole game without dying. Slow Motion Rocks its so awsome. Rockstar games make a sequal and a Movie would be nice to!

this will do just fine it's all that you want in a game although the analong stick get me mad u can switch the controls beleave me you can rest asure you're money is well spent if you've NEVER HAVE PLAYED THE COMPUTER ONE FIRST!!!!!

First off, there was a LOT of hype surrounding this game. This is good, but it can often mean that there will be a lot of dissapointment. Personally, I found it to be very immersive, with nice graphics and a good-enough story. I guess the main reason to play Max Payne is the action. It's done right and loads of fun to play. You get a good varitey of weapons and the "bullet-time" feature is quite inventive. I wouldn't be surprised if more games use it.

I have a couple of gripes here: the frame-rate can drag a little. I noticed this at a couple of points in the game. While it was kind of annoying, it wasn't a frequent problem.

the other complaint was the loading times. I mean, good grief. What was the deal with that? I haven't played a game where loading times were such a problem since the first Tomb Raider.

Anyway, as good as the rest of the game was, I'm more than willing to let those two problems go. The dialogue is sharply written with some fun pop-culture referencing and the voice acting is acutally pretty decent. The game is definitely worth a rental and I'm not regretting having bought it either. If you own a PS2 or an X-Box, and you're looking for a good shoot'em up, well, this is your game. Check it out.

A Game Thats A Max Payne To Play

Max Payne is potentially a great game, but many annoyances leave this game lagging behind the rest. I want to start off by saying that this game is fun, really fun. But there are some areas where Max lacks. Ill begin with the good tho just so you dont get depressed.
GOOD >bullet time "matrix" effect i find myself calling it(great fun to shoot in slow motion). >Pretty interactive enviroments and wide variety of weapons. >Long action game(10-15 hours). >Great frame rate, stays steady thruout game. >Plenty of hard and numerous enemies to tangle with.
BAD >tons of collision glitches(mainly in bullet time mode), things like going thru walls or dying because of sticking on a wall thats not there. >The scenes are comicly done, as in like a comic book which does no justice for Max. >The story line itself BORES to tears.
>way to much emphasis on the baby and mother crying so LOUDLY.
>Platform elements which make this game MORE OF A IRRITATING TASK to play than a fun game. >Controls are really not fitting for this game especially the platform area(i found myself falling off beams and trails of blood for nearly 2 of the 6 hours I played). >Graphics really dont use the power of PS2 whatsoever(Looks like a smoothed out Duke Nukem without the evil pigs). >the ending to the game really disappoints(its the same as the opening, you call that a plot twist?...I call it a slacker company that doesnt take the time to develope a better story. IN CONCLUSION > Max Payne succeeds somehow with being a fun game and is innovative in quite a few ways, I recomend definetly renting before buying because the horrid story and other bothersome game alements may wind this game back up on a used Babbages shelf...

A Definite Buy

I received this game for Christmas by request. It was recommended to me by a friend. This game is beautiful. They truely found a perfect way to enter bullet-time into the game by slowing down all action while keeping your aiming abilities in realtime, making you seem almost super-human. The way they handled your health is very fresh, something I have rarely seen done before. The graphics were beautiful, the levels were very realistic. Cons: I wish there were more weapons, though the ones given do very well. The levels were sometimes very straight-forward, with new levels almost jumping out at you without warning. Pros: The storyline is great, something usually not seen in this genre. I also enjoyed the way the combined action, cinematic scenes, and a graphic novel-type feel to contain the storyline. Bullet effects were nice, with different sounds for different guns. Bullet-time was a very fresh innovative feature. Some things I'd like to see in the next one: 1)More guns 2) More enemies 3) Less frustrating nightmare levels. That's my two cents. Awesome game, must have, days of gameplay.
