graphics be darned!

What's amazing about how great this game is...well, it's that it does not rely on insane graphics, large amounts of memory, lightning-quick processing speeds, or mind-blowing sound.

In fact, this game has none of those things.

What it has is the ability to get right under your skin, suck you in, and keep you playing. What's eerie is how much you feel like you're in the game when the graphics really aren't much to speak of (especially compared to today's games).

I played and finished this game back in 1995. I own other game platforms (PS2, etc) and I have played many other games since then. None of them is like this one.

More puzzling than a Ribuk's Cube!

What what game I'm describing. It's old, it's puzzling, and it's a blockbuster game. It's, you guessed it, Myst. And that is probably the easiest puzzle you'll get concerning Myst, too. Since it is a popular game that was released a quite a long time ago, you've probably heard of it by now. I'll just say this one thing: If you're deaf or impatient, AVOID. There is a puzzle that involves matching piano tones...heck, even if you're NOT deaf, it's still quite a puzzler! But don't fret...you can beat this game in FIVE MINUTES if you know how, and it can be found in the many game walk-throughs of the Internet. After all, with the difficulty of THESE puzzles, rest assured, you'll be looking for one!

Fantastic!

Myst is an awesome game of puzzle solving and exploration. What's nice about Myst is that it is completely violence-free and peaceful. This is a must have!

I really enjoyed playing this game! The atmosphere is fantastic and you would never guess this game is in fact so old! Especially the sounds create a nice experience and I recommend this to anyone who is interrested in puzzle games. I've read the Myst book of Atrus and it has helped me to get inside the Myst world. Very nice experience indeed. I recommend reading the novels written about the world of Myst. It builds up the feeling of being there. Just try it, you'll love it!

myst is strictly a one-player game, other players can play when your journey has been "saved". i preferred two-player games like mortal combat where the action is fast and someone "wins". the style of myst is "point and click" and your pace is self directed. having a high patiance level is paramount if you want to finish myst. once you solve all the puzzles and reach the end ....the game loses its appeal. this review might sound pessimistic, but i think its real in its approach. as the sequalls evolved, so did the hint books. i personally disagree with the whole concept of a "hint book". its self defeating by having the game "spoon fed" to me. i actually liked myst but i still wouldnt call it "fun"......"fun" is a two player game of mortal combat (at least you get to say i whipped your ***)

Too hard for me. I have been using a walkthrough to figure it out. O.K., but not what I had hoped for. Least favorite game so far that I have purchased. Kids probably love it but it's not for this 61 year old granny.

Not as good as Riven

This is a great game, although the first time I played it, I was playing it on a computer that absolutely SUCKED. However, I have since gotten a decent computer, and Myst is so cool. It's hard as a butt, though, and it took me and my friend about 100 billion hours to beat it. If you like a challenge, go for this game.

I give this game 2 stars because the people who made it basically made it in their house and now they're millionaires. I give them credit for that.

That still doesn't hide my secret irritation for this game.

Maybe half the fact is I don't know what the heck is going on. The other fact is that every now and then you get some character or maybe something that is supposed to be like a character, but in the end all you're doing is going through a series of backgrounds. If strolling through a museum sounds like "Die Hard" to you, then this is your game. My final complaint was it was essentially like a bad Zelda dungeon: endless puzzles, one after the other. Maybe its a thinking person's game, but it's still incredibly boring and repetitive. I'm surprised they didn't have a puzzle to open the box, and then another puzzle to get the CD key, and then the CD key was a puzzle, and then...

So yeah...just what the hell WAS going on?

Only for people with a lot of patience!

Myst is a very beautifully designed game, with such rich sound and landscape graphics that at times you could swear it was all real. However, it is a completely reinforced sprung steel hard! Nothing on Earth can describe how mind-bogglingly eye-crossingly impossible this game is. If you are a person who likes being stuck at a single location for hours on end, or being in more knots than a boy-scout's first guyrope then this game is for you. If you aren't this sort of person then BUY A DIFFERENT GAME!
