I never jumped on the Myst bandwagon when everyone was playing it. I found it at a bargain price a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed! The user interface was a breeze, just point-and-click. The graphics and special effects are not that great by today's standards. However, the story line and puzzles kept me engrossed. I couldn't stop thinking about the game until I had solved it! If you like adventure games and enjoy solving puzzles, get this game!

The ending was the most dissappointing part of the game, no response from the character when it was completed. I finished with the correct response too. The whole game was calming and the music was nice. I just hope Riven and Myst III turn out better.

...that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned. It continued falling into that starry expanse, of which I had only a fleeting glimpse. I have tried to speculate where it might have landed, but I must admit such conjecture is futile. Still, questions about whose hands might one day hold my Myst book are unsettling to me. I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

Intruiged? Then do yourself a favor and pick up this game in one of it's many incarnations: Myst, Myst: Masterpiece Edition, or realMYST. You'll be treated to haunting music, an engaging story, and beautiful visuals.

Sorry but I was disappointed!

Saw so many grand statements about this program and how great it was only to be disappointed. Maybe I'm just not a game player - certainly not a Myst enthusiast! I would be happy to sell my copy!

I would like to start out by saying that this is a puzzle game! So many people have said they don't like it, that's just because it aint thier cup of tea. The only thing that solving puzzles rewards you with is more puzzles. An excelent game in and of itself, but I thought the ending fell flat on its face. Don't play this hoping to get a cool ending cuz it isnt there. You might also be interested in Pyst with John Goodman :)

An overall great game. Mysteries surround you while you go to different worlds or as their called ages. The graphics and music is awe-inspiring and captivating. great for anytime of the day and as there is no violence or gore anybody can play it. The puzzles are ez anmd challenging, ex: one puzzle took me 2 secs to figure it out and another ive been working on for a week.Very addicting once you get into it. PLAY IT!!!

The Phenomenal Myst

Myst is the first installment in the Myst series, and one of the best computer games ever- in my opinion, it's only topped by Myst II and Myst III, its sequels. Beautiful scenery, puzzling (but slightly less puzzling than Myst II and III, so it would be better for a younger person), and altogether a wonderful game to play. I would also suggest a walkthrough for this as well, but it isn't as necessary as for the nest two games in the series.

A triumph from detail to beautiful detail

There are action games. There are adventure and sci-fi games. Even those that call themselves puzzle games. But Myst is monumentally revolutionary. Anyone who plays it will instantly realize this is like nothing ever seen before. It immerses the player in an unparallelled (save for Riven) world of surreal mystique. You arrive knowing nothing, finding your only opportunity to be exploration and attempting to uncover the shrouded secrets of this unexplained world. The graphics are fantastic, the sound perfectly complimentary to the visuals, the plot (once you discover it) gripping... but the most underlying truth of Myst is its difficulty. More than 20 (I think) mind-bending true puzzles will present themselves to you during the course of the game, and anything anywhere may have an effect on something somewhere else. ~Be prepared to think outside the lines ~NEVER EVER OVERLOOK ANYTHING! ~Let the game enfold you with its sense of immersive reality. And, most of all, enjoy the experience.

Breathtaking

This game was the best. I loved this game and have played (and beaten!) it several times w/ and w/o a hint book. The movies, the storyline, and the graphics were excellent. It really set the stage for Riven.
