*****HOW TO MAKE BF2 WORK WITH WINDOWS VISTA PLEASE READ*****

I have windows vista home premium and I am 14 years old. I figured out how to make bf2 run smoothly with windows vista. Here are the steps:
1. Make a shortcut of BF2 and all the booster packs if you got any.
2.Then right-click on the shortcut and click properties.
3. Click the compatibility tab and check the box "run as administrator"
4. Check the box to run it in compatibility mode and click apply. Then click ok.
5. do this for each shortcut if you have booster packs.
Remember to only start BF2 from thos shortcuts or the changes you made wont be applied! ENJOY! I did those steps to make bf2 work for me and it was really easy.

Sucks!

You throw in the disk, thinking oh great its gona be a great time.. but unless you have a $2000 system, your ****ed. I spent about $600 on ram and graphics card alone. Then when I went to try to run the game, no luck.. crashes to the desktop at startup. (Which if you go to www.totalbf2.com their forums, Cilent forums, and read some of the polls.. it sucks. 80% of the people have problems, eather system or lag, alot go OVER the requirements, but still won't work. Once you BUY the game, and get to the readme, you'll notice that only about 10 graphics cards are supported. !!!10!!! out of the thousands of cards only like 10 CARDS are supported, not the brands, the cards!! Even reports of supported cards not working from time to time!

Even those who go above the requirements and have just what they ask you to have, still report crashing to the desktop, major lag, even with high end systems. The list goes on...

To top it off, BF2 doesn't SUPPORT you, they take your money and then give no support as far as trying to get your game to work.
ATI and Nivivda don't plan on fixing the problems.. They figure "oh we have your money lets ditch you!" Which is exactly what they do. I suppose ATI / Nivida have nothing to do with it, as far as support... at least they reponded to petitons saying they can't help you out. But battlefield to doesn't even have a petition system, any type of support system. Period. You have a problem you fix it yourself, or you don't play.

Basically, You can have a super system... one that meets and even goes above the requirements in areas. But theres still a good chance it won't run. Even if your lucky enough for it to run, theres a good chance of it crashing mid-game, as has been reported countless times on the forums. Plus alot of lag even with the best of systems.

Basically, Don't buy this game... not for a good long time till they can get some updates to fix all the problems. You still want to ignore this review, think your system will run it fine. Then I wish you luck. I've had the game for almost 2 months in the case. Gathering dust. No support help, no anything! Not even looking into it. So, all I can say is goodluck, I pray you have a good experence with them. I know I haven't... and I'm tired of trying to get anything out of them. I'll be takeing this game up to EBGAMES and tradeing it off for a better worth while game. Thanks.

This game rocks!

Okay to start this game has many wonderful features. Fans of the previous Battlefield games should love it. With the Awards system you can show your abilities by earning rank, badges, ribbons, and medals. I believe they are wrong above about getting to General, at least at this time. From what I have seen the highest you can make is Sergeant Major. That particular rank is only given to one person and is based on the person with highest score, so it may change periodically. The graphics and sound are incredible. The maps are amazingly realistic and it would not be hard to believe they are based on satellite photos. The ability of squad leaders and commanders to communicate orders, scan territories for enemies, call in artillery strikes, drop supplies, and many other features make this a stand out game. Fans of America's Army, Ghost Recon, and other military games should definitely check out the free demo version at EA first. Actually everyone should check out the demo first as the game has high requirements not only on your RAM, video, and sound, but your bandwidth as well. If I have any complaints, it is that anyone with a borderline requirements PC may get kicked to desktop or even rebooted. In fact you may have all they require and still run into problems. I went round and round with my firewall. I have seen other people have problems with this game even getting their software to work right. Recently I even saw a post were some are having problems because of their NIC drivers. I love the game now, but then I went out and bought a high end Athlon 64 PC with 1 GB of RAM, an NVidia 6800 GT video AGP card, and I have a Cox cable internet connection. Even I plan to put 2 GBs of RAM in it. Everything I read indicates putting a 2nd GB of RAM vastly improves performance. EA tells you outright what you need to play so read the requirements carefully. I would have given it five stars but myself and several of my gaming friends were unable to meet the heavy systems requirements initially and we all spent money getting up to the requirements so we could play it together. I am a Senior Computer Engineer and I spent several hours getting my PC and my Stepsons PC to run the game without crashing. So understand that if it wasn't such a great game once you get it working I certainly would not be giving it four stars. Oddly enough the last time I bought a new computer earlier than I planned was when Battlefield 1942 first came out. With this latest patch that came out in September 2005 it is easier to go up in rank and unlock the weapons.

Really Annoying

There are two things really wrong with BF2:

1. You must have the latest expensive video cards and you need to have a fairly fast PC too. Even after this, the game can slow down at times. In comparison, Half Life 2, which I believe to be a more advanced game, does not have high end hardware requirement and it runs smooth. I spent about $200 to upgrade the video card and I can tell you it was not worth it.

2. The game simply takes forever to load. First you have to start the game and suffer through the initial flash screen, then you have to pick an account, then you have to wait for the account to be verified...which take many minutes. Then You need to pick a server, which the servers take some time to update and you never quite sure when it has finished. Then when you select a server, you have to wait for it to load, then after what seems like forever, it has to verify the client, then you have to Join....holy....what a piece of junk!!!

Finally when you get into the game its really just about the same game as Desert Combat. So save your money and play Desert Combat.....its free.

Oh, one more thing, once the game ends, I get a server error which boots me back out to the Account screem where I once again have to suffer through the horrid waits.

No Co-Op mode - deduct 3 stars

Battlefield 2 is an excellent game. It has wonderful graphics, plays smoothly, and has great maps and gameplay. However, it is missing the part of the Battlefield series that made it so much fun: Co-op mode. All of the other Battlefield games allowed you to set up a game with 64 players and fill them with Bots. This way you could have a small LAN party, and fill the "empty seats" with 60 or so characters. This was a major oversight by EA and they need to come out with an update, or I will not purchase Battlefield 3.

Also, the music from Battlefield Vietnam was excellent. I think they should have implemented a way to play music while in vehicles in this version. One last thing: there is no way to play single player mode with more than 16 bots.

BF2 the best game out there

Let me start with saying that i dont' write reviews often but BattleField 2 is worth praise. It's an amazing game! Ranks, awards and bonus weapons drive you forward towards excellence...yes killing people is fun but this added third dimension of promotions and awards is awesome. As a first sargeant you'll dream of being a General.

The vehicles are extremely balanced and so much fun, the maps and constant action will overwhelm you. Squads and commanders have also really added a realistic intelligence side to the game.

The only flaw is the high requirements, which WILL require an investment, but hey what's new? People need to STOP complaining about it! Doesn't it make it sense that the the best game out there would require Good Hardware? Makes sense to me.

Top Notch Computers Beware!

Ok, I'm a soldier that returned from Iraq several months ago and some boys in my platoon wanted to get a game we could all play together. So I decided im going to buy a sweet machine from alienware and I did just that. FX-55 processor, 2 gigs of ram, 7800 GTX SLI video cards, the whole shabang... When I installed this game I immediately had a crash creating an account! I restarted my computer and this time was able to actually create an account and play a single player game. The single player game was a lot of fun! But let's be honest the real strong point of this game (any game really) is playing online and using team work to overcome the enemy. In this reguard I was extremely dissapointed. I cant connect to a game without my entire machine freezing up and having to restart. I've ran all the updates, updated my Nvidia Forceware to no avail! I cant for the life of me get this game to work. I've emailed EA, It's been two days and I have heard nothing back in reguards to my problem (the site states a maximum reply delay of 24 hours) My friends have "average" computers and the game seems to run alright. Since than we've been playing Cod2 primarily because my machine wont run BF2 online. The game seems to be A LOT of fun and if you have an average or even a fast machine you might want to pick it up. But if you have top notch stuff... you might want to pass this title up for call of duty 2 and save yourself 50 bucks and a lot of frusteration!

allow me to cut through the hype...

battlefield 2 is a POTENTIALLY great game. it has a lot of things going for it. the combat, the combat kits, the helicopters, jets and tanks... very cool stuff. the problem is in its full execution, this game sucks. the maps are BIG. this means you spend all your time just DRIVING in a tank. you can't WALK anywhere because the map is too big. this problem is so fundamental that the makers of battlefield 2 must be idiots (they screwed up bf1942 and vietnam too, so i guess so). nonetheless, they got more right in BF2 than in the previous games, no question there, particularly in THE CONTROLS. the controls are great here. the problem is they need to team up with the call of duty creators for this game to be worth playing.

call of duty 1 and united offensive got one thing overwhelmingly right - close combat. in fact, the creators themselves realized how "right" they got combat and how much they screwed up the "big map, bunch of tanks" idea, and swung too far to the other side with call of duty 2, which has tiny maps and no vehicles at all. the answer to the ultimate game problem is obvious - we need a game with awesome close combat AND maps just big enough and with just enough tanks and jets. BF2 is far too geared to tanks and planes. there needs to be more emphasis on foot soldiers. too much time getting around, too much empty space, not enough action = not fun.

the other thing they screwed up is the PC voice commands. while saying things like "enemy chopper spotted," or "need ammo here!" well the commands SOUND awesome. the problem is, you can't tell WHO is saying them! you're supposed to look at the mini-map and see which dot is blinking yellow, apparently.. they need to make it easier. call of duty does a better job at that.

a tip for you: if you're using zone alarm and having connection problems with this game, turn zone alarm off and turn windows firewall on. this solved all my connection problems like many other people are having.

Battlefield 2- Locating the Serial Code...

The game play is great and the graphics are supreme. That is all I will say about the game review wise.

I just wanted to let people know that when installing the game, when it says:

"Please enter the entire code found in the white box at the lower left of the back of the DVD/CD case."

DO NOT PANIC IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE SERIAL CODE ON THE BACK LOWER LEFT OF THE DVD/CD CASE.

After writing amazon.com, checking EA's website, and finally calling them and waiting thirty minutes... they tell me:

"Check the back of the Manual Inserted into the game case."

Sure enough, the serial was located on the back of the manual.

This game will ruin my life.

As someone who really hated Battlefield 1942 and therefore didn't even try Battlefield Vietnam, I'm surprised I got this game. I actually asked for it as a birthday gift because I saw a review for it on G4 and it looked amazing.

Good things about this game: Graphically it's awesome. The squad play is terrific IF people decide to be team players. The weapons are very realistic looking and sounding. I haven't even scratched the surface of Commander Mode yet, but it's also very entertaining. This game is like an FPS and an RTS combined. It's also VERY cool that the EA server keeps track of your progress as you get kills, captures, assists, etc. And the very very very best thing about this game is that it's not a WWII game. There are about 500 too many of those out there. This game is built on a "fictitious" 21st century war, though it chillingly resembles what WWIII would probably be like.

The "bad" if you can even consider it bad, is that it is a system hog. I have an Athlon 64 3400+ processor, an Nvidia 6800GT overclocked 256 MB video card, and 1 Ghz of RAM and it runs just fine. I have all settings maxed out and get no stutter in framerate. I think a lot of people that are giving this game bad reviews are mistaking server lag for poor game performance. Don't make that mistake, they're two different problems. Also make sure you have good quality fast RAM. I would not attempt this game with less than 1 gig, but that's almost becoming the standard now anyway. If you have a series 6 or 7 Nvidia card, this game should run just fine.

The one thing that I don't really like about the game is the server browser interface. It's very clunky. Sometimes it becomes unresponsive. I suggest NOT using the "Play Now" button which just automatically finds you a game and drops you in. It takes forever. If you manually find a server to play in it is much much faster. EA is supposedly releasing a patch at the end of August to fix server browser and game performance issues, so a lot of these minor annoyances should be solved pretty soon. Server lag is fairly common, but once you find one that is running smooth this game plays great.

Anyway, give this game a fair shake. Try to run the demo first to see if you have any issues with it. If you can run FarCry, Half Life 2, or Doom 3, you should be fine to run this game. I must say that as an avid PC gamer I almost decided to give up and get a PS3 next year because let's face it, keeping a PC running current games is costly sometimes. This game renewed my desire to stay with the PC. I think it is the best gaming platform there is.
