Unless you have spent the last ten years in a cave protected by some sound-proof gel, and you happen to be in the middle of the pacific ocean, chances are you've heard of the battlefield series at least once in your life time. It was the game battlefield 1942 that gave the series its popularity.

Graphics. Yeah, good for its time, but unless your graphics card AND you processor are more than three years old, you won't have any problem running it at max detail. The water effects are gorgeous and should be mentioned.

Sound. This game has some of the best and most believable sound effects i have ever heard in a game. You will start sweating when you hear that enemy chopper comming...for YOU! The music is also great, unfortuneately, it is not used in game, and there are only four tracks.

Gameplay. Superextraordinaryfantasticallygreat, this new word that I just made up is used to describe that gameplay. Basically, there are 7 roles you can play in a battle

Assault - Good in fire-fights, tires quickly
Sniper - Sneaky, stealthy, fast, and camoflauged
Special Ops - Accurate weapons and good speed, but no armor
Support - You carry a big gun! ~oh yeah!
Engineer - A guy with a shotgun and a wrench (help me!)
Medic - You're like assault, except your not as good!
Anti-Tank - Its more like anti - everything!

Needless to say, the 11 maps turn into full-fledged wars, and man - it's really fun! The game really shines when you and your team work together with strategy, working alone dulls the excitement (Unless you're an assassin type class). The game has its flaws in gameplay, though, all the vehicles are really unbalanced, how the hell does one take out a tank with a sniper rifle? When I am seen by a tank, it ussually amounts to me running on top of the tank (because it's safe there), and praying that no enemies happen to stroll by the tank and notice me. (This makes the drives REALLY angry).

Multiplay. One thing, if you are not going to go online with this game, forget buying it, go back to playing boring linear singleplayer shooters laden with repitition that makes you bored even thinking about it. Or, go and play an RPG (I recommend Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion).

Value. The day I am writing this, the price tag is $7.99, unless you are ultra cheap, you probably realize that this is a superb game at an unbelievablely low price.

Replay. Ok, I play it EVERY weekend for three hours, is that enough replay value for you?

Ok, BF2 is not for everyone, if your the kind of guy who thinks shooters are cheap junk with no replay value, well, unless you want to be dragged kicking and screaming into the world of reallity, you probably won't want to buy this game. Or if you like futuristic shooters, you may want to check out Battlefield 2142, even though it's twice as expensive.

For eveyone else - Simply click on "buy"

Graphics - 9/10
Sound - 10/10
Gameplay - 9/10
Multiplay - 10/10
Value - 10/10
Replay - 10/10

Overall - 10/10 - Superextraordinaryfantasticallygreat++!

It may be a wee bit older now, but that means it is no less fun. Shoot your friends or complete strangers in the face with a Medic's shotgun, and then get blown up completely by a Sniper's claymore. Have fun with this one!

Great single player fun

I really enjoy this game. There are about 10 missions that I see in the single player option. I've gone through 3 so far in about 3 weeks and have enjoyed them all. The AI of your team members is pretty good, although sometimes suicidal. There are lots of vehicle and armor options that allow for each play of a mission to be different than the last. The visuals are good, although for 2008 may be a bit dated. I have a fairly new Dell Dual processing chip with 2meg ram and it handles it easily. It is not a memory hog at all, at least for my machine. My only complaint is that the personal weapon choices are not as great as I had with other games. But that's minor compared to all else.

Battlefield 2

This game with most amazing online fights, plus the high quality sound and graphic effects, it makes playing it like living it. The graphics are more than adequate for its release date (2006) and yet some graphics cards wont handle it 100%. Some remarkable aspects about the graphics are the shadows, the lighting and the water.

But talking about the multiplayer, we can see that its a mixture of action, strategy, and a bit of RPG. Players can unlock new ranks and weapons playing online. The game is a war between the US marines and the MEC (Arab), or the US marines vs. the PLA (Chinese) depending the map, which are only 12.

The gameplay is superb, but can be also frustrating.

The good:
-Large scale gaming
-Vehicles and reemplaced weapons
-Squads and commanders
-Different weapon kits (can be taken from a downed soldier)
-Nice maps

The bad:
-Players are not given any time for protection after spawning
-Can be hard to find someone
-Some glitches from wich you can take advantage of

It's Well Worth The Price

This is one of the best FPS games I've played. The graphics are good, and the enviroments are cool. They also provide a good range of weapons and vehicles, some creating very fun possibilities. (As a medic, you can kill enemies by zapping them with your shock paddles)

It also provides a good challenge, without being impossible. I've only ever played single player, too, and I here it's much better online.

My only complaint is that there isn't a campaign. I understand it isn't that kind of game, but it still would have made it funner.

I've wasted a lot of time with this game, but had a lot of fun too! Get the DVD version though as the CD version has 3 CDs to install, and well, that's just old hat these days ;)

Not for the casual gamer

If you are a casual gamer like me who is only looking to spend a hour per day playing a game, Battlefield 2 is definitely not for you. As a previous reviewer said, on paper, this game sounds fantastic, but in reality, playing this game will make you want to pull out your hair in frustration.

The game play has a very high learning curve, as you try in vain to learn the numerous elements of the game that you must master before successfully engaging in battle. These include learning to shoot with guns that are somewhat erratic and imprecise in comparison to other pure first person shooter games, and learning to fire missiles by factoring in the time it takes to hit a fast moving object.

Yes, it's all quite a bit to take in the beginning, and it stays that way well into your first week with this game. Unless you commit numerous hours (read 1000s) towards playing this game, you will stay a perennial "noob", and will constantly be taken down by your more experienced opponents in every painful manner imaginable.

And speaking of opponents, a lot of these players will likely have invested enormous amount of time and effort into getting as good as they are. Their figures are reflected in game statistics that can only be described as superfluous in the amount of worthless numbers they contain. If you are an expert gamer who enjoys pouring 1000s of hours into a game that has no relevance outside it's virtual enclosure, and like to obsess about stats that are equally meaningless, then you might enjoy it. For me, however, a week of maddening game play was more than enough to uninstall it and throw it back into the closet.

Husband LOVES This Game....

Bought this for my husband (avid Battlefield 1942/Call of Duty/Medal of Honor multiplayer). He LOVES this one. The graphics are amazing and it supports VOIP. Battlefiled 1942 fans will not be disappointed. There are medals and awards and your progress is tracked. All of your kills and deaths, even the weapon you're best served by.

Don't bother if you want a single player campaign mode

Maybe this is an excellent multi-player online game, I don't know, but I bought it for what I thought was a single player campaign mode. Well, as far as I can tell there is none. You can play around seven or ten battlefields capturing enemy flags, but one has nothing to do with the other. I must be missing out on the graphics too, although I have an Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 2GB Ram, XFX 8600GT 512MB. Go figure. To sum up, if you want single player action, stay away.
