First of all I would like to say that I strongly suggest having a powerful video card for this game I mean you dont have to I run it on a Nvidia GeForce 5200 but I have to have all the detail settings turned to low and no dynamic shadowing. Now to gameplay on the singleplayer side if you dont have a good internet connection or just play singleplayer you wont be dissapointed the A.I bots are 100x smarter then in other battlefield games they work as a team, heal each other, they actually listen to your commands, and best of all when they get in vehicles they dont just drive around they actually go around and try to eliminate armor and infantry try to take the command posts Now to one of the biggest features of the game commander mode. Its a really fun mode where you have a overview of the battlefield and can launc artillery drop supplies for troops ect.,ect........ the squad part of the game is really fun and youll keep coming back for m ore and more to move up your rank on the multiplayer side its like all the other battlefield games except with the addition of squads and commander mode the squad feature in battlefield multiplayer really kinda of changesd the battlefield multiplayer its no longer just run around shoot and capture command posts now you have to work as a team or you wont be succesfull the commander mode feature is really a nice addition now you can have a commander who has the ability to call in artillery and drop supplies and you are almost guarented to have a good commander because it chooses the highest ranked person who applied to be commander as it also for multiplayer I would get the new headset to talk to multiplayer teamates with it
So here my lowdown
Singleplayer:9.0
Multyiplayer:9.7
Graphics:9.8
playability:9.2
replay value:10
Overall:9.9

I'll be playing this for a long time to come!

Okay, i got this game in early september and i LOVE IT!

I have been a fan of the Battlefield franchise since its inception and i can honestly say that this is the best one. Yes, there are bugs and yes, the load times are long but there will be patches to fix the bugs and you can always get up and get a drink, use the restroom, or read an exerpt from a magazine during the load times.

So here's the actual review:
Usually with a game, i'll play it for about 1-3 months and my play time on it will steadily go down and by the 3rd motnh i stop playing it then maybe rediscover theg ame a few motnhs later and play a little more. Not this game. I got the game in late August. My computer couldn't run it (i needed a new video card) and i got an ATI 9250 (i think) for $76. Game works fine on low settings. On low the graphics are still good (not stellar) but the gameplay is amazing. People saying you need a top of the line $2500 system to run this are full of it, but you may need to upgrade in certain areas. Anyway as i was saying after getting the game up and running i play it almost religiously. This game just mixes everything so beautifully. There is an RPG element in the rank/awards system (gaining a new rank can keep you up all night, believe me); RTS elements in the commander system, Simulator elements in the vehichles;and, at the core, the FPS element.

To sum it up, this game does have minor flaws but those can be overlooked. Even if you hated the other BF games (BFV was a dissapointment to me) this one is well worht it. If you are just getting in on the series buy this one, it's worth every last penny. As the title says this game will be no 3 month obsession to me: i can see myself around this time next year still fragging on BF2. Awesome game.

Worst case of spawn camping I have ever seen, other than that FUN..

Don't get me wrong. The is a great simulation of how modern day warfare is. However, unless you are part of a established clan or guild you will be lucky to survive for more than few minutes in most of the battles. The game has lots of loop-holes to allow extreme spawn-camping. If you are one of those lucky people whose rig can run this game than what fun its to log in and cant even move 3 feet before someone snipes or artillery's or rocket's you. I have played the orginal Battlefield, its expansions and enjoyed them all. Though you had spawn camping in those games but nothing comes close to the pain and anguish of being constantly farmed at spawn points within this game by peopl who constantly play the game or run the server. They are just waiting for you to log in with their cross-hairs set on the predetemined spawn point. I have for the time being put this game back on ever growing list of games that i rarely play. Maybe later down the road the game mechanic's might improve and I might return.
As far as the gameplay is concerned it's top notch, feels very intense and involved than any of the other expansions. Though the naval warfare is very limited this time around which is bit disappointing to me(nothing comes close to firing those big guns on a battleship or AA weapons, or sinking a cruiser via a submarine in the orginal Battlefield 1942 game).
I really adore the Ranking system which kind of gives you a reason to play the game regulalry so you can get some tangible results for your time spent like better weapon kits and higher ranks etc. The modern warfare, weapons, vehicles are very well done. Its really fun to hear the weapons lock on a aerial vehicle and than firing a homing missle or guiding a missle to its target like tv controlled anti-tank missile etc. The cgi is top notch and you definetely need a p4 or amd dual core cpu, 1 gb ddr-2 ram, sata hard drives, 256 mg video card to adequately run the game along with a dsl connection.
It's a great game if you have a power-house of a machine and lots of patience as well as tolerance to get through the intial spawn campers gauntlet.

Great game but many technical issues.

Battlefield 2 is a great game. The graphics are OK (we've seen much better). The whole idea with increasing your rank and unlocking more weapons is very good and the game is very addictive. But why I give 2 stars only?
I have quite good machine and Samsung 17 inch LCD. My internet connection is fast and stable. I'm able to play single and multiplayer games as Doom 3, UT2004, HL2, Quake 4 and Oblivion at the highest possible settings - 1280x1024 resolution with very high quality details and 4x anti-aliasing. But no way to play multiplayer BF2 at such settings. I have to decrease the resolution and the details and still there is a lag. I have horrible problems even logging to my account and starting the game. I applied the last 1.3 full patch hopping that this will be fixed but without any success. I made pure installation both the game and patch and still nothing. When I'm so happy to play the game the server suddenly drops me and even the game crashes. After patch 1.3 the Norton Antivirus still screams at any attempt the game makes to connect to the BF2 server. One could say that the problem is the Norton, but it does not scream for the other games and Steam? I had to go to PC-Cillin Antivirus (great program) but without any improvement. Sometimes during the rare moments of playing some of the servers decide to ignore me rank and I start from the lowest rank, but with the new weapons still unlocked... Sometimes I spent 30 minutes just trying to connect and play... Sometimes it works but in most of the cases there is the problem with the logging. Sometimes, without any changes in the game settings, it decides to connect me automatically to the fastest server and this takes again forever.
Don't understand me wrong. If you succeed to play the game it is very good and enjoyable. There is a lot of potential and I still hope that they will fix all the problems soon. Don't give up!

much ado about nothing

difficult to load needed a patch from electronic arts that was never mentioned. It only plays from a connected server which can be never ending to connect.

Extremely complex and difficult to play... Don't recommend but to the most experienced and dedicated gamer

The Greatest Half Hour of My Life! You will love this game!

I have had this game for about 6 weeks now, and I love it. Let me say that I used to swear by Half-Life 2 and Counterstrike: Source, but I really think this game is the best of the year 2005! I plan to buy an Xbox 360 so I can play it in HDTV, some day when it comes out in 2006.

The one warning you need to know is that this game, like the previous Battlefield games (1942 and Vietnam) requires "good" hardware. Let me tell you my setup and what really counts in making this game "GO"!:

--You need a Pentium 4 2-Gigahertz or better CPU. You don't need an Athlon 64.
--You really need a full 1 Gigabyte of memory; 512 Megs is too slow to load the big maps.
--Have an ATI Radeon 9600 or X700 AGP (or PCI Express) video card (128 Megs is good). I dropped Nvidia a long time ago.
--A Creative Labs Audigy 2 or 4 sound card. This is a must to get a high frame rate (hardware sound rendering turned "ON".)
--Use Windows XP and the latest DirectX 9.0 drivers

You don't need a super system: I use a Pentium IV 2.0 Gigahertz, 1 Gig DDR266 memory, ATI Radeon 9600 AGP, and the new Audigy 4 Creative Labs sound card. (If you are a gamer, get this sound card! It works great and the frame rate goes up with the hardware sound rendering shifted to this card versus using your CPU to process sound.)

Having talked about the hardware, let's get to the game.

I say it was the best half hour I ever spent gaming, right after I added the Audigy 4 sound card and switched on the "hardware rendering" for the sound in the audio options menu. I already had the video options set to 1024 X 768, and all MEDIUM settings, with no Anti-aliasing ON. AA set ON will slow it down, so don't bother.

The game went from good to great. It was faster and smoother, and the sound rocked. I was on a Blackhawk helicopter flying around and using the GAU Minigun (like the Gatling gun in the film, Predator), and I felt like I was in the movie, BlackHawk Down. It was that good! Chopper and vehicle speed were good and even the jet planes were not "laggy" with my cable internet connection at about 200 ping. This game keeps you playing over and over! It has that special "something" in multi-player mode that makes it so compelling, just like CounterStrike! The voice commands and menu system work really well, and you have medals and officer rankings to achieve as you play along.

I won't bore you will all the cool things I did in this game, but there were many great "cinematic moments" and I really got into it with the great sound effects! Don't take my word for it! Go to [...] and try the free DEMO version out with the "Gulf of Oman" map. I just love the helicopters -- Apaches rule! See you on the battlefield and thanks for reading my review. Buy more memory and an Audigy sound card and it will move you!

Fun when you can get it to work.

The most frustrating gaming experience I have ever had was getting this game to work and evidently I wasn't alone. After two weeks of installing and uninstalling and trying everything I could think of I nearly gave up in utter frustration. I had system crashes; I got dumped back to my desktop over and over, you name it! To add insult to injury, when things froze, I couldn't even control/alt/delete and close down the program having to resort to a hard reboot.

I contacted EA Games technical support, and to their credit, got fairly timely responses. They cheerfully and patiently had me try various things eventually solving the problem.

This game was released way before it should have been. Where Call to Duty, Metal of Honor and Soldier of Fortune all work flawlessly online and off, Battlefield 2 was nearly impossible to install. One of the many odd things you have to do is go into your running process file and delete running processes, processes that have never been a problem with any other games. It SHOULD NOT be this difficult. Had I not been a fairly experienced computer user and a long tie gamer, I would have never figured things out. How's a casual gamer with limited experience ever going to be able to do it?

How can EA, in good conscious, put out a game like this? They ought to be ashamed of themselves. People are paying hard earned money for these games and getting nothing but frustration for their troubles. People are giving up on this game in droves and either going back to Battlefield 1942 or on to other games that are less problematic. EA Games has done a serious disservice to their loyal Battlefield series followers.

Until EA Games fixes the myriad of problems, I cannot recommend this game.

I just played this game at my local PC club. it was really fun. there are 8 different classes you can be. some of them are Sniper, assualt, medic, engineer, and special forces. you can also go up to peopl and knife them. tho only annoying thing is that somtimes at the start of the game you get run over by your own vehicles as they rush to get to the enemy. other than that there are no bad things about this game

Battlelfield 2,not bad.Try playing multiplayer

Battlefield 2 by itself is an ok game. The problem with this game is when you start to play the game online.Ughh,it horrible.Singleplayer, almost nill,is limited to 16 player maps,it gets boring quick. The multiplayer acspect of the game is good, when it works. The lag on the ranked servers,is unbearable, sometimes you cannot even get in the game due to the fact that the game takes so long to load, that by the time you do get in the round, its over.I really regret wasting my $50.00 on this game.I cannot recommend this game to even my worst enemy. It was and still is a big let down.

If you do not head this warning and do get this game, make sure you have a great PC to run it on.I have a P4 3.6GHz 2Ghz mem and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256meg,and the game still studders.

Great game but unstable on 9800 pro

Had several problems with game crashing all the time after changing from Radeon 8500 to 9800XT. Ultimate solution to problem after much work and frustration was to drop the driver back to Catalyst 5.1 and lower the GFX settings to medium and lighting and shadow settings to low. Works fine now and looks great.
