I am 33 years old and I absolutely love role-playing games, but up until just recently I had only played PC games such as Diablo and Diablo II which I loved. I recently got the PS2 and was looking for a few RPGs and when I saw the review for the Champions of Norrath and they said that anyone who likes Diablo will like this one so I bought it. I am so glad I did. I love everything about this game, the many different characters and being able to choose their appearance, the graphics, the weapons (I found a sword that kicks butt), the armor, the enchanted items, and the challenge.

I am not that far into the game, but I look forward to every challenge to come. I played it for several hours last night and finally had to put it away to go to bed. This game is like that really good book that you just can't stand to put down!! Anyone just getting into gaming, take my word for it, this is definitely one to buy! And for those experienced gamers, if you like RPGs then you would love this one!

DIABLO II ONLY BETTER!!!

This is one of the best games that I have ever played. It is like the awsome game Diablo2 for PC only better graphics. It has 5 classes barbarian, cleric, ranger, darknight and magician and all are good. If you like RPGs that are faster paced and more hack and slash then buy this game!

hack-n-slash with a little more to it.

Wow, this is a wonderful must buy game. if you like ANY sort of rpg (role-playing game) you should STRONGLY consider getting this game. This is an awsome game with TONS of replay value.

Anyways you start off with a very weak story (but I can't imagine anyone buying this game for its story...) and you enter in your name. Now is the fun part. You get to choose between five characters, the barbarian, the wizard, the shadow knight, the elf cleric, and the ranger. Now this will STRONGLY influence the way you play the rest of the game so choose wisely and remember you can alwalys go through the game again with a different character. The game sort of works you into the flow with the STUNNING graphics, backgrounds, and music. It captivates you with so many weapons, armor, and assesories, etc. to choose from that it is actually semi-interesting to take inventory.

This game will take about 15 or so hours to complete there is never a question of length. I really enjoyed geting knocked out once in a while instead of just crusing though the game with ease. Isn't the point of video games to have fun and enjoy yourself? And plenty of fun this game is.

Great game

I'm not much of an RPG fan (except Kingdom Hearts) but I played this on the demo from playstation magazine and it was great. You can customize your character very well. You can also pick up tons of things from the creatures. Its not very difficult and is very fun to play.

better than Diablo 2

Champions of Norrath is very similar to Diablo 2, and if you like action RPGs, that's a great thing. The replay value is high because chances are you will want to expand your character's abilities by playing through the game again, and you will probably want to use different classes too. Multiplayer is not as great as people say it is. The lack of a trade interface and the fact that gold is not shared through party make playing with strangers an adventure in itself. The other players can either enhance your experience or just completely ruin it by robbing your gold and items and teleporting back to town when you don't want to. Minor bugs like the lag in voice is not important, but the game does freeze on you every once in a while, which is really annoying given the lack of save points in dungeons. Overall, it's more fun than Diablo 2, too bad it's got a few more bugs than it should have.

Orcs & goblins & no why did it have to be spiders

Help, I can't stop playing Champions of Norrath. After completing the game and playing with the same character (much stronger & better equipped) on the Courageous setting, I have gone the extreme by creating 10 characters (5 characters to choose from but you can play as man or woman). The characters that are the most fun are the magic users. I love to face a horde of orcs and goblins and just keep firing magic at them and when only 1 or two are left, hit `em with my best shot. As you get further into the game, the AI of some of the evil creatures is amazing, especially the nesperaties (vampire-like creatures) who are tough to hit because they keep dodging your attacks. The game designers are the Champions of Norrath. Sounds, graphics and the artwork are beautiful. Wish you could make the characters we gamers create speak more. They only make a one sentence comment when they enter a dungeon/castle, ant hill, etc. Only two complaints, I do not enjoy the airborne view. You are looking down at the action - can zoom in a little closer but when you do, you lose peripheral vision; and why not give us a bag of holding (like from Icewind Dale) that can hold huge amounts of armor, weapons and jewelry. After a while you leave the landscape littered with armor or weapons because you get tired of beaming back & forth to the shopkeeper. Other than those two minor complaints, the game is outstanding. You really get your money's worth of game play & hordes & hordes of fun.

Very adictivly fun RPG game!

If you ever found yourself playing Diablo or World of Warcraft ,(or not), then this game is for you. With an incredible RPG interactive gaming format you can't miss a moment of awe and wonder during gameplay. As you cruise through the difficulties you find identicle quests to acheive, but harder enimies and as a perk far better weapons and armor to equip yourself with. GET THIS GAME YOU WILL NEVER REGRET ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!

P.S. no opinion on Champions of Norrath:Return to Arms, haven't played it yet.

I think the first Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance was the best of this genre of games on the PS2. I was surprised when the same studio came out with such a shoddy product.

I knew things were going to be bad when the Snowblind Studios penguin didn't appear in their intro screen (how hard is it to copy the penguin into this game?). The intro was very long & talky, but forgivable. The ability to choose male & female version of each character was nice, as well as customizing their appearance.

Then we started to play. The gameplay was ok, but we really missed being able to jump, and after just having played Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II, sprint, but it was forgivable. I started out as the wizard & his first spell is some sort of cold attack (I forget the name). But you have to aim it precisely, which is a pain. It kept sailing past the enemies I'd intended for it to hit, sometimes by tiny amounts.

My girlfriend got bored of the game & I started a solo Dark Knight - what a cool character class. But I didn't want to get too far ahead because I didn't want to ruin the surprise for when we're playing together, so I started a Barbarian. Being able to zoom in in combat is cool, but it also limits how far you can seen. Getting out of & then back in to the inventory screens, the game froze. I'd heard this game was buggy, but this sucked.

I pursuaded my girlfriend to keep playing, and we were progressing. The random locations are cool, but can be annoying when various dungeons are scattered around the map. We wanted to clear the overland area first & then do the dungeons, but not the main dungeon, so we had to run back to the first one... which was tedious. Anyway, I forget exactly what we were doing, but the game froze again. That's 2 times in 2 days.

When you pass a checkpoint, or enter a new area it saves your data, so you don't have to go though the process of saving the game, making it more like GTA, which is great, but if it's going to keep crashing, you'll have to save at every save point anyway, and then it's minutes waiting for the game to load again when you reset the PS2.

So overall, my review is: fun game, not as fun as the first Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance (but neither is the second in that series), but crashes way too much. Seriously disappointed in Snowblind for releasing such buggy software. Next time guys, push back & don't release until you're ready.

Great Game!

I normally play real time strategy PC games, but this game has kept me on my PS2 for days. I highly recommend it.

I was a huge fan of the BGDA on the PS2 and when I found out this was done by the same group I had to get it. The demo was really good and I'm psyched to see so much improvement to the spells and weapons and stuff like that. A very satisfying game!
