Too many glitches makes smooth gameplay nearly impossible...

Wish I hadn't wasted the money.

First Glitch: Health and Mana viels could not be used. Reloaded and started the game at least ten times before finally deciding to try and venture on without. Of course, it made for difficult and time consuming gameplay...running around circles during boss battles until my health replenished.

Diehard that I am, I still managed to put HOURS into this shotty game and survived until reaching level two. That's when I found the SECOND glitch which made continuation impossible.

Upon killing the Big Spider Boss, I decided to head back to unload my loot before entering the doors to level two. Once done and "saved", I returned to the doors only to discover they were now CLOSED and I was unable to move forward without starting the entire game over again!

After 12 hours of struggling to work around the games many unresolved errors, problems and glitches; the oh-so-boring 'hack and slash' gameplay was hardly worth the time... OR the money I spent.

backgrounds and music anyone?

Okay, my best friend and I rented this game because it seemed really cool. Then we put it in the PS2 and waited for about 10-15 minutes for it to load. Seriously! Then we built our characters (the coolest part) and went to play.

The beginning wasn't bad. Pretty standard leveling up crap. The sound, however, never worked properly. The music came and went. The cut scenes constantly froze. The backgrounds would take about 15 minutes just to load and then when we left one area we had to wait another 15 minutes for that background to load. We tried 3 different games all with the same results. Also, the PS2 plays every other game perfectly, so I think this is a big problem with the game.

Try something else because this game isn't worth it.

I think my hair is gray, is it done loading yet?

This game is utter crap!! The best part about it was making your own character. It took at least 10 minutes just to load the beginning. My friend and I took the damn game back to the video store because we thought it was broken, but sure enough the second game did the same thing. The music sounds like a skipping CD and the characters are mostly walking on a black screen because the graphics take so much time to load. It took two days just to get to the end of act 2! It takes 15 minutes just to load data! And I have no idea what is even happening in the story line because the mini movies freeze.

I don't know weather or not this is only a problem with the old version, but I suggest that if your going to rent it you must have absolute patience or you can just rent Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2. It's pretty much the same except you can't make your characters and it loads in seconds and you can hear the music and see the graphics!

Norrath has just got some loading issues and I don't think it is worth it at all! Another note to the reviewer, my PS2 works perfectly well, so it is the game.

HACK,SLASH,HACK,SLASH.........

This game is about as intresting as watching your cloths tumble around in the washer. First off I would like to state that I love RPG's and have been playing them for 11 years , but this game is so unstrategic. The only thing you have to worry about is your thumb becoming numb from hitting the X button so much from mindless hack and slash. there is no tactics or even a hint of stratigic combat what so ever. That pretyy much sums up the combat, remeber... hack and slash and your an expert as this game. The graphics I will have to say are fairly good, Though the blandess of interaction in the dugeons kinda takes away from all the "owww and ahhh, look at that". You have your typical pools of water that you run through and create realistic ripples as you wade trough them. If you search hard enough you'll come across a barrel or two that you can ignite and watch it blow up, don't even think that you can utiilize it in combat ,cause you can't , by the time you light the fuse you have about 1 second before it blows up. Other than that there is no other interaction in the dugeons, but make sure you have plenty of fun igniting barrels and trying to run away from them before they blow up and take you with it. Sound quality is pretty good if you have surrond sound. The sounds of steel against steel really seem to raidate with echos throught the dungeons when in combat. The music is your typical "wanna be epic", type of theme, thats rather repeative and dull. The small cut scenes you run into before you battle with a boss or prepare to attack a horde of goblins and orcs are absolutly terrible, You will see many orcs and goblins raising ther weapons in the air and shouting, but all you hear is a very anticlimatic grunt that competly ruins what very little gaming adreniline thats left. For character customazation....I get lightheaded thinking about it. You have three hair styles and color to choose from, three skin complextion, and 2 two sexes and thats it you character is complety and utterly your own truly customized character,HOOORRRAAYYY!!! after you finish the very "in depth" character customization, you are ready for battle, but wait what about weapons and armor. The one thing to always rember in this game is gold is meaningless. I went through about 7 levels and 2 bosses before I bought anything at all. I came across 10x better armor and weapons from orcs and goblins that I slayed with my yet again, hack and slash technique. The nly item you may need to purchase is arrows if yourr character uses ranged waepons, That was the only thing I liked about charater creation, was you resource managment for your arrows, I find it more intresting when you have to actually try and survive. All in all I only reccomend this game to people playing a RPG based game for there fist time. The little interaction and simple character customaztion is definalty a beginners level. If your looking for a long, drawn out, epic, real time combat based RPG than avoid this one at all cost and try Fable for x-box or somthing in the Zelda saga.

This game is nowhere close to what I expected. I was tired of playing it the frist day. Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 is 10x more fun!

This game is overpriced, very overpriced. If you gotta have it, wait till it's under $20. Still overpriced but it's more reasonable, and this isn't far from the bargain bins. This is a no skill no thought game. Sony puts at least 18 controls on the controller, two in this game control your hero. L1, controls where and X, hack, and that's it. Not much to work with. If Sony keeps this up, might be time to switch to X Box. Spend your money on a better game.

the #!%$ing game will not work!

I think the first Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance was the best of this genre of games on the PS2. I was surprised when the same studio came out with such a shoddy product.

I knew things were going to be bad when the Snowblind Studios penguin didn't appear in their intro screen (how hard is it to copy the penguin into this game?). The intro was very long & talky, but forgivable. The ability to choose male & female version of each character was nice, as well as customizing their appearance.

Then we started to play. The gameplay was ok, but we really missed being able to jump, and after just having played Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II, sprint, but it was forgivable. I started out as the wizard & his first spell is some sort of cold attack (I forget the name). But you have to aim it precisely, which is a pain. It kept sailing past the enemies I'd intended for it to hit, sometimes by tiny amounts.

My girlfriend got bored of the game & I started a solo Dark Knight - what a cool character class. But I didn't want to get too far ahead because I didn't want to ruin the surprise for when we're playing together, so I started a Barbarian. Being able to zoom in in combat is cool, but it also limits how far you can seen. Getting out of & then back in to the inventory screens, the game froze. I'd heard this game was buggy, but this sucked.

I pursuaded my girlfriend to keep playing, and we were progressing. The random locations are cool, but can be annoying when various dungeons are scattered around the map. We wanted to clear the overland area first & then do the dungeons, but not the main dungeon, so we had to run back to the first one... which was tedious. Anyway, I forget exactly what we were doing, but the game froze again. That's 2 times in 2 days.

When you pass a checkpoint, or enter a new area it saves your data, so you don't have to go though the process of saving the game, making it more like GTA, which is great, but if it's going to keep crashing, you'll have to save at every save point anyway, and then it's minutes waiting for the game to load again when you reset the PS2.

So overall, my review is: fun game, not as fun as the first Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance (but neither is the second in that series), but crashes way too much. Seriously disappointed in Snowblind for releasing such buggy software. Next time guys, push back & don't release until you're ready.

this game was better when it was called baldur's gate: dark alliance

ok so i knew it was like baldur's gate, but unfortunately it's worse! it gives you too many options to deal with items, customizations and whatnot, and not enough fun action. i was really hoping a big problem with baldur's gate (aiming arrows) would be fixed, but nope! it wasn't. in fact, the problem was worse. screw this game.

didn't live up to the hype

i was expecting this game to be really good, along the lines of baldur's gate, and it started out that way. but then i kept playing. i was a cleric, and i think i had about four different weapons the entire game. i racked up over 500,000 gold because i had barely anything to spend it on. it's a good hack and slash, but the only driving force is getting to the next level. there's no saving up to buy new stuff because there's nothing good to buy, and hardly anything i could even use. same goes for the spells, which were practically useless. played it once through, but not going to again
