Simply the best video game ever

this game can never get boring. You can choose your characters race, what he looks like and name him. There are 45 levels. More than 10,000 items. Including armour weapons potions and magical items. You can fight close range with weapons e.g swords, axes, maces, staffs, daggers. With long ranged stuff e.g bow, spears, magic. The more you play the better you get and you can upgrade skills. It is a fantasy, action, adventure, role playing game. And I recommend it because it is the best.

if you like diablo or even the baldurs gate games you will fall in love with this tittle.
great replay value as well as great graphics and sounds and the feel of the game brings you in the world itself and yes you can loose track of time playing this as well as the addicting factor.
my biggest gripe is the camera issue you will understand once you start playing it i feel that they couldve done a better job with it.
this is a what us gamers would call a hack and slash rpg and also you can upgrade weapons and armor as well as the person you are playing.
the other con to it is when you get killed they restart you back at the same spot you were killed just to be killed again unless your ready then it wont be a problem.
this is a must have if you like rpg games great everything period and yes the part two to this game is out also and to me it is better than the original.
the part two to this game is called champions return to arms so i would say if your going to buy this you might as well buy them both at the same time once you complete one you want to start into two.
i do hope they make more like this they have set the bar high for other game companies and i look forward to more.
so go out rent or buy this must have and enjoy the world but do try to keep track of time.

Fun for someone new to games, and great for multiple players

My boyfriend and I played the Baldur's Gate games, but those were my first introduction to games after a Wonder Boy infatuation made me skip school for nearly a week in 1992. We started playing this game together, and got through most of the first level together, but these days I tend to play it by myself, importing him when I want to sell his stuff and make some money, or when I need his help to kill a boss. He's fine with that - I think he got bored after we beat the first level, which makes sense after reading some of the other reviews here.

I'm not bored, though - I think the bosses in the higher levels are a LOT harder to beat - I don't know whether I'll actually make it through the third level or not. It's kind of boring that it's the exact same map/orcs/etc but I kind of like it, too, being newer to games, because I like being able to go back and sort of expect what's coming next.

The graphics and music and sound are great - just like in the Baldur's Gate games. The camera angle does get on my nerves sometimes - especially when I'm in the middle of combat and it decides - on its own - to start changing. But I totally get why they do it like they do.

It's true that the shops don't have such good stuff - I've picked up much better loot than anything I could buy, but I go back all the time anyway to buy health and mana potions. Oh, I'm a cleric on this game, and was in the Baldur's Gate games, too, and it seems like my mana gets depleted like three times as fast in this game as it ever did before. So I'm always running out of mana. I got armor and weapons that add to mana regenration, but it still runs out too fast.

Anyway, all in all, I really love this game and am looking forward to playing the next one, too.

Pretty Good, But Hardly A Classic

This game was fun, but really could have been better. Gameplay sometimes was bogged down just by the sheer numbers of meaningless enemies(the kind that can be killed with one attack, but show up 20 at a time). This is a great game if all you're really after is hack and slash - in fact, this is all there is. Bosses in general were annoyingly easy to beat - there were maybe two that took more than one try to defeat. The final boss is even worse - after you've played through the whole 30-40 hours of the game and created an excellent character, you face a final battle that could probably have been defeated in the third chapter(out of five). There are no puzzles whatsoever, for better or for worse. If you're really into the Final Fantasy series, you may find this game to be a little bit tedious just out of lack of anything but battle.

Overall Pros and Cons

Pros:
Awesome Hack and Slash battle
Very good character creation and customization system
Random dungeons enhance replay value
Up to four players without an internet link
Easy button system

Cons:
Constant battle sometimes monotonous
Characters' chatter is annoying
Lack of difficulty, even on the hardest level
No soundtrack to speak of
Absolutely devoid of puzzles

DEFINATELY NOT THE BEST

As hack & slash games go, overall this game is ok. There are too many glitches though that make this game really annoying. The Baldur's Gate series is A LOT more polished and though not perfect, is a much better game/buy. The strange positioning of save points for one is really bizarre. In the early stages, there are save/temp save points EVERYWHERE! You can't take 10 steps without seeing another one...then as you progress and get into the big dungeons...you're lucky to get one at the end of the dungeon! I figure it had to do with the random generation of the maps but come on...SOMEONE had to know how to write code to make stationary save points midway through the dungeons! My 2nd irritation at the game is that the screen would blank out as the map generated. Not to mention numerous crashes. Maybe it didn't bother anyone else...but when you don't have a save point nearby and you just spent an hour in a dungeon only to have to start all over again because the game locked up...this was frustrating to the point of hair pulling as of course you never get the same primo weapon you just found again. The inventory menus were just plain annoying with their pop up tags and the weak upgrade system they put in to add traits to your weapons and armor was just not worth it. BG2 while again not perfect had a much better way to do it with the gems. Also...the boss monsters were WAAAAAYYYYY too easy to beat. Heh heh heh....WHO WAS THE GENIUS that named the "scary" spider boss SHELOX?????? Can we say lame? I suppose that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? The makers sure did like the LOTR movies. A little more use of their own imagination would have been nicer.

Other than that, if you are bored and have already finished the BG series, then this isn't the worst way to spend your time but I wish they had fixed some of the bugs and glitches before releasing this game. I will admit it is longer than the BG games but replay value for me is just not there. My hubby and I had a great time picking this game apart after finishing it the first time. That made for some great bonding time...so I guess the $49.99 we spent wasn't completely wasted! : )

IN A TWO WAY TIE FOR MY FAVORITE PS2 RPG!

It's not Everquest II , but it's the best substitute that the PS2 can muster. I don't play PS2 games over the internet, mainly because I'm in the army and only play my PS2 on deployments, where I can't hook up to the internet. The stand alone one player game is stellar though. My only complaint is that I wish the item customization was more detailed like it was in Baldur's Gate II, my other favorite PS2 RPG.

Soon we will be the CHAMPIONS

The game is GREAT!! Played it with my sister and we had a blast. The characters' emotions in the voices in the storyline were excellent and very believable. Graphics were pretty good. Just wish we had 2 other friends to play it with. That would be the bomb!

The true successor for Baldur's Gate

This game looks and plays fantastically. The difficulty level is a little low for someone who has completed Baldur's Gate many times but this game is more difficult than Baldur's Gate 2. The enemy AI can be weak, and exploited in some situations, but this doesn't seem to be a big problem.
I have completed the game, it is still great. But there is definite graphic slowdown in places, and the game crashes out occasionally during loading of new areas. Nothing to reduce my ranking of five stars, but alas this isn't quite perfect.
I will add, that apparently there exists a bug utilizable in online play only that allows online cheating. This has annoyed several people who bought this game mainly for online use. Still for off-line playing this is the best hack and slash game on the playstation 2.

CON ROCKS!

If ya like Baldur's Gate and their ilk, you'll get a hit out of Champions. It's much along the same lines - run around, loot everything you find, and kill anything that crosses your path. It's longer than BG and BGII which is always cool and the randomized areas and monsters keep it from getting stagnant (I think I have the BG map imprinted on my brain).

There are exactly two drawbacks to this game. Both of them are relatively minor. First is the camera. You can move it around, but unfortunately, the game does it for you as well which is very frustrating. It's quite distracting to be in the middle of a boss battle and suddenly have your camera angle fly around 180 degrees.

The second drawback is the lack of save points. It's WAY cool that the game does automatic temporary saves, but if the game hangs (as it did to me a few times) you lose your temporary saves. I ended up using a hell of a lot of gate scrolls to go back to a real save point so I could do an actual save. I would have much preferred to have had a few more real save points.

In any case, if you enjoyed BG, you need to by CON. I even got my mother addicted to it. Enjoy.

Almost as good as LOTR games!

This is a great game! The graphics are good, and so is the gameplay. This games would have gotten 5 stars if the camera veiw was better but you get used the the camers veiw. If you liked the Baldurs Gate games then you will love this game! If you are a gamer that isn't very good then buy the strategy guide for this game! When you buy this game make sure that you have a big tv! With a small tv you will die easier because you can't see as well.
