AAAGGGHHH!!!! TOO MUCH READING!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 35 / 61

Do NOT buy this game if you don't like to read! There's tons of letters and documents that you have to read to progress. My brother only played for five minuets before he gave it to me.
EXAMPLE OF LOTS OF REAEDING: Go into a room, read two long letters. Go into the next room here's a book read six pages, oh look here's another one, read five more. Here's a room with a computer, spend an hour and a half reading all the information on that. (And I'm not kidding about that hour and a half bit either! I was loosing my mind.)Here's reception, read all the notes in the pigeon holes, go into the office, read another long letter in here. Go into the kitchen find four more notes and a complaints book to read... Do I need to go on, bcause I can?
Also keep a pen and notepad handy. Believe me you need them. For some reasion this game doesn't keep notes, which I can't understand because you really need them. I had to start again after hours of reading because I got so confused and fustraite I had to get a pen and paper!
The graphics aren't exactly state of the art either. But I didn't let this put me off. I started the game three days ago and I'm pretty far in. I suddenly found myself stuck after solving several of the puzzles, unable to continue until I found items I could pick up. But I never found them after going into all the rooms for the millionth time.
After I found the night vishion goggles that let me talk to the ghosts in some of the rooms I again found FUSTREATION! You have to type questions instead of having a set number you can pick from. The ghosts wouldn't answer the ones they didn't "Understand" and when they did all I got was "Go away" or "Mind your own business". Big help that was. Also when I was promted to use them in one room, I couldn't select them!!
I have now given up on this game and refuse to go back. You should abandon it too before you consider dipping into your pocket.

Old School

This game was so boring! I love adventure games and I was terribly disappointed with this one. I did not find this game to be scary in the slightest, in fact at some points I found the ghosts' voices to be annoying and humorous. All through the game I kept wondering what the relevance was in what the ghosts were saying and should I write down everything that I was reading...this game has a lot to read.

The graphics are not great, nothing spectacular. And the constant mouse swirl started to hurt my wrist! I love point and click games, but this was a tad obnoxious. Even the most obscure object/wall/door/etc. may be a clue and you just can't know until you click over it. I guess I prefer games that are a lot more straight forward and logical. I don't want to spend hours just swirling my mouse aimlessly around a particular scene in hopes of finding something.

I am a true adventure gamer and I have played a bunch of really amazing games. A few of my favorites are: Still Life (excellent!), Syberia 1 and 2, The Longest Journey, and Black Mirror. I think that those games have a lot more to offer. This game seemed old fashioned almost in the way that it was meant to be played. In my opinion this game is redundant and boring.

I also totally agree with what reviewer's Shannon and BJ"bbigham" had to say, and I wish that I had read their reviews before I bought this game.

Waste Of Time

I bought this game based on some of the positive reviews I found here on Amazon, but I, too, ended up being extremely dissapointed. I've played many games of this genre and I found this one to be, well, distracting to say the least. The story line is ok, the mood of the game is excellent. I could even deal with the "walking" (clicking to move one step at a time), but most of the puzzles have absolutely nothing to do with the story line. I enjoy games with puzzles that actually move the plot line forward. In Dark Fall, you are just solving a lot of puzzles just for the sake of solving them. There doesn't seem to be any continuity or flow throughout this game. If you don't write down EVERYTHING you see, you might just miss an important clue...but then you're also left spending all your time writing down stupid numbers from every business card and menu you come across. Aggrivating and a waste of time! I actually reached the ending scene before I collected all the clues....so I had to go back and figure out a whole bunch of annoying "clues", some that actually lead to something, but most lead to dead ends. Oh, and your little "helper" - Timothy - is really no help at all.
If you want a good game that is actually fun to play, try Syberia, or any of the Myst games. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Try a little harder...

Having a limited amount of time for computer games and the like, I try to pick adventure games that will intrigue me and be visually stimulating. Dark Fall: The Journal was neither. There is minimal character interaction, clumsy navigation, and sub-par writing. The design is far from intuitive and the hot-spots are easy to miss. There are so many random objects and writings everywhere that you wonder what is relevant and what is not. Overall, I found this game to be a waste of time and would rather play one of Syberia games.

Not For Everyone

I bought this game based on the positive reviews, I had high hopes for it. I love adventure and point and click games. I have found more interesting games for free on the internet. I found it incredibly boring and not at all scary. I played it for about and hour or two, quit and uninstalled it. I felt completely ripped off. I didn't feel like I had any idea where it was going. I would say save your money and try "The Longest Journey" or "Syberia", these were much more fulfilling.

Too dark, and don't know where to continue the game.

Poor game! That's all I can say. But some people may like it. But not me. I should try to play the game if I have the chance before I pay for the game and waste my money.

One of worst games I have ever played.............

I am not able to find words befitting this game.A game is supposed to give us some fun ,pass our time ...This game sucks in every aspect. After roaming around the hotel and station for an hour I concluded that there is nothing in there...(You cannot find a single person (or a thing) in this game...you and you all along). It is not scary (for guys who love scary kicks...).Then I went through a walkthrough and found out that the entire game based on some poetic lines or something WHICH CANNOT BE FOUND without a walkthrough. For example we have to find a line in a book in page 21...the funny thing there will be n number of things will be in the room.I do accept that certain level of difficulty must be associated with these things...but they should be rational in the sense...And not the least the entire game was written in Macromedia then you can imagine....

Save your $$$$$$$$ ..........

Boring Lame Adventure game

We have a group of friends who get together every other weekend to play various adventure games while sitting in a group around a computer and taking turns at the mouse while using group strategy to complete the game.
We have played tons of them... many from DreamCatcher.

DARK FALL rates among the most boring.
In fact we uninstalled it and threw it in the trash.

The first and most annoying feature was the interface.
In today's world of PC gaming, having static still shots of your environment (like early days of MYST) is lame.

Realistic 3D environments where you can spin and get your bearings is the only acceptable interface for these types of games anymore...... a series of still scenes with no movement ability inside your screen is quickly disinteresting and detracts from the game.

After about an hour, this game hit the trash can.
There are much more engaging adventure games out there to have fun with

Read a book instead

GAME THEME: Super complex web of a dozen characters that you never meet, but learn about via reading numerous newspaper articles, journals, computer files, writings on the wall, etc. These characters are all dead, we simply read about their past (what they ate, their relationship with others, their careers, their emotions). You will spend your entire game wandering around an old hotel and the surrounding grounds. Lots of supernatural stuff, like ghosts, spirits and demons.

PUZZLES: Puzzles are very systematic and can only be solved with the help of a walk-through guide, so don't even begin this game without one. Examples of puzzles include:
- repeating a pattern of symbols as seen in various other screens, put together is a "meaningful" order

NAVIGATION: Super easy point and click. Graphic are very dark and almost colorless. Well done, but nothing really moves and nothing is particulary inspiring to look at.

MISC: You will spend most of your time reading dozens of items, and writing them down in hopes that they may be useful. There are dozens of objects that can be read or looked at closely that have no function in the game.

The reading is sooo extensive, with soooo many details of each character that I would reccommend reading a drama book instead of playing this game.

Most disappointing game I've played in a long time

I bought this game based on the great reviews, but I was very, very disappointed when I finally played it. I'm surprised this didn't come in a set of 3.5" disks instead of on a CD. If you like playing games that look like they were made in 1990, then this game is for you. Everything about this game is cheap and behind-the-times. Navigating one full screen at a time (instead of actually "walking" from place to place" severely detracts from the game's realism and playability. If you want to waste a few dollars on a game you'll only play once or twice, I suggest you buy this game.
