After playing through Call of Duty 2 and completing it and then playing Call of Duty 3 all the way through I would have to say that the single player of #3 just wasn't up to standards, some parts were too easy and other parts too hard. That isn't so bad, but the reasons for parts being too hard doesn't seem to be just good AI programming. It just feels as though they made some spots impossible without actually making it the AI hard to beat.

However, the multi-player for Call of Duty 3 is great. You can play with up to 12 players a side and as several different types. Light Assault, Heavy Assault, Scout, Support, Medic and Anti- Tank. Each type has special abilities. Most of the maps are pretty fun to play on as well. The different types of games to play keeps it fresh too: War, capture the flag, battle, team battle and headquarters all make for different types of strategies. Both of the downloadable packs of maps are also very good, which also gives the game more options for play.

Call of Duty 3-Great but flawed!

Just purchased Call of Duty 3 and is a great game, BUT:
The game randomly feeezes, or the left hand menu randomly opens causing the game to go into the "live mode" menu. This causes everything to stop. I contacted Actavision, they were friendly but not very helpful, telling me that "files may have been corrupted" on my hardrive by their game software. They concluded this because I received a message on my HDTV screen that said something approximating the following, "This game will not play without an upgrade, Do you want to upgrade, I selected YES.

I later removed the hardrive and the problems persisted.

All my other games play just fine on my Xbox360-to include Call of Duty 2.

I contacted Amazon, they were GREAT, I had a new disk within three or four days.

The new disk works much better, it has frozen a couple of times, but I can at least play through and save chapters. The glitches are still troublesome, but the game is GREAT, so I tolerate the problems. THIS IS THE ONLY GAME THAT GIVES ME ANY PROBLEM, so I conclude that the game has many bugs. Check the net for hits on Call of Duty 3 problems and you get many, many, many thousands of hits.

CONCLUSION: Buy this game with the understanding that you may have problems and become very irritated! Activision suggested, when I called, that I might purchase a new hardrive or spend 200.00 plus dollars to send my console in for repair, all at my cost since the pathetic 90 day warranty was past. I found this unhelpful and unacceptable-my console and hardrive are fine!! THE GAME HAS BUGGY SOFTWARE CODE, IN MY OPINION!!

Not bad, just very disappointing...

Let me say one thing first- I absolutely loved Call of Duty 2. While the campaign was alot of fun, it was the multiplayer that really mattered to me. I preferred its smaller maps, fewer players and close quarter combat over games like Battlefield which featured huge maps and alot of players.
Unfortunately, COD3 feels like a completely different game. This isn't surprising since it was developed by a different team than the one who did the first two installments. The main problem is that the multiplayer is essentially trying to be Battlefield. Does that make it bad? No, but it just isn't Call of Duty. If I wanted to play Battlefield, I would buy Battlefield.
The single player campaign is decent, if a bit repetitive, and the graphics are a definite improvement over COD2. Overall, COD3 isn't a bad game, its just not a GREAT game, like the others in the COD series.

Good game but lacking in small stuff

COD3 definately improved the graphics over COD2,also it seems the weapon damage was increased. The things I didnt like about COD3 are minor but do take away some of the gameplay. The vibration of the weapons is weak so the feel of the weapons is real soft. The audio isn't mixed well compared COD2,and it might be me but the movement seems a smige slower. Anyway overall I'd say it's a good game and worth getting if you can overlook the small stuff.Happy Gaming,TriagePrez

Bad campaign but pretty good multiplayer

I bought this game about a week ago and i went and tryed the campaign on my xbox. i hated it. it was long, boring, and lots of other people on xbox live dont like the story mode either. then i tried the online multiplayer and it was way better than the campaign. there were usable vehicles and bigger maps. the ping didnt seem as bad as cod2s was and the guns have a second function in some game types. the only thing i didnt like about the multiplayer was 24 people could go into 1 game. even with bigger maps it was 2 crowded with 24 people. overall if u have xbox live this is a pretty good game, but if u dont its not worth the 60$.

Very Short not much game play

First of all this game is very short. Don't expect to get more than 2 evenings play out of this game. Sure there is on-line play as well but this is a twitch fest. Don't expect to live for more than 10 seconds unless you are really good.
A very large portion of this game is driving around in a jeep as the driver (as apposed controlling the machine gun mounted on the jeep) and there are other annoying mini games like rowing and placing bombs. Also there are many cut scenes. Sometimes it feels that you spend as much time looking at cut scenes than you are actually playing.
There are no saves. If you die you have to go back to the last auto save.
The game is amusing for a little while but it is much to expensive for what it is compared to titles like Oblivion or Chromehounds where you can easily get over 100 hours of play time.

It's Decent

I give it 4 stars because even though I am not entirely thrilled with this game, it is still enjoyable and worth the purchase. As far as the reports of it being buggy, I have not seen it it to be anymore more buggy then most games recent games. I have not played MP, so this review is single player only.

It is important to note that this game is made by a completely different developer then CoD2. The developer who made CoD3, made Big Red One for the PS2. A fact that is all too clear because the weapon sounds are exactly the same in CoD3, as they are in Big Red One. This is disappointing because they are not very good, and sound very weak. Another thing I dislike is some of the gimmics they implemented. The hand to hand scene, and the boat rowing, are just cheap. I also dislike how I spend the majority of every mission using German weapons. You do not get enough ammo. Either you should start with more ammo, or you should be able to find some for your allied weapons along the way. This was a problem I also had with Big Red One. Also, after playing Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas, I do believe any shooter that does not allow you to take cover behind an object and shoot over it, is going to be a disappointment for me now, and loose some enjoyment. Graphically, the game is excellent. The visuals, and the scenery is very good, and delivers an excellent WWII feeling. The combat is also pretty intense, and is done well. The missions and maps are well laid out. And for the most part, the game is an enjoyable shooter. The biggest problem is simply the original CoD developers did not make it. Treyarch does a decent job, but it is clear Infinity Ward did not make CoD3, and the game is lacking because of it.

Meh

You can tell that CoD has become a money-maker's franchise. The campaign is horridly linear. There are occasions when you get the choice to charge into a house with guns blazing or flank it, but that's about as much choice as you usually get. When playing on Veteran difficulty, I found myself trying to snap the controller in half because the enemy AI is frustratingly cheap. It automatically knows where you are no matter where you're hiding, and there are parts where even if you're lying prone the available cover can't completely protect you and enemies make 1-in-a-million shots at the sliver of your head poking up from behind the wall with ease.
The multiplayer is a tad better than in CoD2, but it's not worth the extra $60 for a sub-par campaign and slightly improved multiplayer.

Just wow!

Ya, it isn't perfect, I have seen AIs walk through other AIs, some through walls and some just start glitching around and believe it or not one began teabagging, which is well a rude gesture done by squatting, for people who don't know that. But I have played a good few games on my 360, I own a total of 12, and this is a superb game. I started the first level with a quick and to the point tutorial, it involved shooting a helmet and throwing a grenade before I jumped into a truck and went off to action, plus I got 5 gamerpoints for absolutely nothing! You get out of the truck have a quick cinematic, in the background you can hear shells hitting the ground and some screams from fallen soldiers.

So I jump a stone wall, actually a fellow soldier gives me a hand up and over and I fall into the middle of a battlefield. This is one of the most intense moments of the game, in my opinion. Bullets zing by my head as I make my way for the abandon shack, mean time mortar is pelting the ground and the men around me...

Anyways, this game has a great single player mode, and unlike its predecessor, you get achievement points for more things than just beating the game on Veteran!!! I got one for not using a weapon, there was that one for using 'Gerrie' weapons, another for using less than 300 bullets, and the list goes on. I have not really gotten into the multiplayer, I am not a big fan of it, but I did get the feel of a real battle going on. Once you get over the fact that almost EVERYONE wants to be on the Allies side you can really start enjoying the multiplayer, but beware, it is EASY to die.
