You can beat this game in about four to four and a half hours. Great graphics and plot. Good voice acting. Hard. The main character leo, is the worst character for this game. A wimpy little vengeful child. The music is awesome and so is the level design. Very fun to dive around and flip and use that to destroy enemies. There are quite a few subweapons, but the game is too short to enjoy them. Rent it and you can beat it.

Zone of the Enders is GRAND

This is my favorite action game EVER, though I haven't yet purchased ZOE2 (i'm still trying to recover from Christmas expenses.) There are no action games that match the speed and energy that radiate from the gameplay of this PS2 MASTERPIECE. This mech game is sure to please any adventure game enthusiast that is looking for a quick quest. Why do I say quick? It is unfortunate to say that the game is rather short. The first time I beat it, it took me about 5 hours, and I've played adventure games that have taken twice as long, and even longer than that. It is very sad that such a brilliant piece of gaming art had to turn out to be so terse; however it is definately worth every penny that one may spend to purchase this game.

Bottom line.....this game is GOOOOOOOOOOD!!! SUPERB!!! PRIME!!!
It will provide you with a very smashing good time!!!!

Great, but extremely short...

This game was excellent. It has an intriguing storyline, with incredible graphics that just make your eyeballs pop out of your head. It has great controls, and give you almost everything you want in an action game. But, the cons are that the game is very short, and the battles can get slightly repetitive. Other than that, this game is one of my favorites. Don't buy it, but rent it, it is that short.

I feel robbed after playing this.

Well, when I first loaded up the game, it seems good. I really got it for the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, but I figured I would be playing the actual game too. What can you expect from konami? Great games. Suikoden and MGS. However, why did Konami do it. Why did they sell us out. MGS 2 is really short, and this game proves to be even shorter.

The combat is great. You got slash and attack. You get a second mech, but its just fun. Moving around feels fluid, you will see your legs leave burn marks on the ground if u glide on them, and it also feels great to just traverse around. However the arenas are usually really small, so you won't have much to explore. Anyways at first I had no clue what to do on any place, but I soon figured it out. The real problem is how they did it. You do stupid little tasks with your ship thingy, all the while hearing about how this enormous battle on mars is going to take place, at the same time you are stuck with a robot who is learning to be human. Which part sounds familiar to you? Practically every robot story is about how the robot in the end usually grows to feel emotions. It is really cheesy. Then it starts to get boring and old.

So you finally meet up with the big bad guy? YOU CAN'T BEAT HIM. YOU CANNOT BEAT THE LAST BAD GUY. How terrible is that. Its like your fighting him, then you can't do anyting against him. So you go to this place. Get ready for the battle of mars, wrong. They just end it. It is terrible. The game lasted about 4 hours, mabye 2 if I sped through. Almost as horrible as the ending, is the bonuses. Theres basically nothing you will get after acomplishing the game. No upgraded mech weapons or anything, so I fail to see any point in replaying it. Where the game does good in graphics and fighting, it fails miserably in every other possible aspect.

SWEET..... BUT SHORT

When I first saw the second one,I wanted to get it.But instead I got the first one.Luckily it was used.First of all,the graphics are the best I've seen for a while. You can fly, decsend and ascend as much as you want, and perform devastating attacks. But the gameplay is so short. If you know what you're doing, the game will only last for less than an hour. The same moves will get boring after a while.Even the enemies are the same. This is NOT,I repeat,NOT a worthy "M" game.It should be rated Teen.Parents,no living thing that everyone sees dies, even though it looks like it.Instead of getting the first one, skip to the 2nd one.

KONAMI DID IT AGAIN!!!YEEEHAAA

One Word: AWESOME!!! One o' the Best Mech Games out there!!!! KONAMI DID IT AGAIN!!!! The day I saw this game come out, I wanted it right then...This game should win THE VIDEO GAMER'S MECH GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD...if there's such a thing. The graphics are unbelievable...and the speed...WHOA!!! You fly around the screen at like 90 mph!!! The Controls are tight too...
You are Leo Stenbuck, an innocent bystander, who's friends are killed, crushed by a falling Orbital Frame(mech). While you run from this sight, you enter a warehouse(acutally a hanger), and accidentally fall into JEHUTY, a fully functionally, humanoid type mech(Orbital Frame). So of course, you can't just leave the mech...no, you have to go and try to fight and save the colony from people who are after Jehuty and willing to kill and destroy anything in their path. and of course you get Jehuty outta the colony and game over...well not exactly. You have to get through a number of HUGE Mech bosses. And of course you have to worry about not killing all the innocent bystanders who HAVE NOT EVACUATED AND WOULD RATHER JUST SIT IN THEIR NICE COMFY HOME AND WATCH GUNFIRE OBLITERATE THEM AND THEIR HOME AND FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!!!! So try not to hit the buildings and keep the colony intact please :)

You have a 360 fighting system that allows you to be all over the screen at once, meaning that if you stay in the same place for too long you'll get hit. The lock-on system is fast and accurate and the speed of Your Orbital Frame is unbelievable. You constantly get weapons that you pick up in programs that equip Jehuty to sometimes fire back weapons that your enemies have. This happens throughout the game, even up to the last few levels before the last 4 bosses. And another thing...I'd say this game is somewhat like an RPG...you constantly level up, 8 levels at most(well, that happens with most of the Action and adventure games from Konami, 8 levels :)) And your enemies constantly level up, making the game more challenging...the higher the level of difficulty you use, the higher the level of enemy power you get at the beginning of the game. Various little problems like a virus attacks you main Computer, and you have to find the cure(your health drops to 0, so you had better not get hit or it's lights out).
The Multiple returns to areas you've beaten did not bother me one bit, just made the game longer(yeah I think I beat the game in like 3-5 hours, can't remember how long it is, just that it's very short). Since I got the game I've beaten it on VERY HARD, and still find this game eye-popping candy. And one more thing...VS. Mode. It rocks, unique system of fighting. Not much to be said here but have alot of fun with a friend or one-on-one with the computer. Well that's all I have to say...If your not into Mech games, you might still want this, but Rent it first if your unsure(but at $20 now, why not just buy it). ANd it also comes with a Metal Gear Solid 2 demo disc, but you can find out about that rockin' game elsewhere...til next time(yeah yeah yeah, I know this was long:))

There are only a few words that come to mind when I think about Zone of The Enders for the Playstation2. One of the best Mech games to come out in a very long time. Somebody finally got it right on the first time around as to how to make a Mech game. Mech games should be really easy, fast, and fun to pick up and play in just a few minutes.

... Now back to the review, the story starts off with a group of people attacking innocent people in a colony on Jupiter in the 22nd century called Antilia. The Terrorists attacking the innocent people in Antilia basically started an all out war.

In the middle of all this chaos a young man named Leo Stenbuck is one of the few people that can fight against the Terrorists in a Mech but there's a problem they already took him and all the rest of his group hostage. Somehow Leo breaks free and remembers how his friends use to make fun of him and wasn't sure if him want to save them as well as himself.

After running for his life from Unman Mech's programmed by the terrorists he finds a new Mech, his colony been working on for a long time called Jehuty. ADA is the on board computer that makes Jehuty one of the most advance Mechs in the whole game.

Now that we got that out of the way lets me tell you why this game is so great. One of the first things you notice when you pick up the controller is how natural it feels in your hand. It makes you feel like you are actually a Gundam Pilot. This is the Mech game that puts most Gundam games to shame.

Bandai Entertainment should really consider Konami to make their next Gundam game, if Zone of The Enders is evidence of what a Mech game should be. The only downside of the whole game is the replay value that makes it only worth renting. The first time around it only took me about 7 hours to beat the whole game doing everything and if you play on all the different difficult levels the only difference is how much damage the enemy can take. The bottom line is it would be hard for somebody to find a better Mech game on the market right now and I hope Konami keeps up the good work and makes another. Good night and play on.

Game Play 8/10

Zone of The Enders is the best action Mech game to come out in a long time.

Graphics 8/10

The graphics are almost real. How in the world did Konami get this effect on the playstation2?

Replay Value 5/10

The replay value is about the only thing wrong with this game.

Music 7/10

The music is about the same thing you hear in all action games the same song over and over nothing new here.

Bottom Line 7/10

Zone of The Enders is the best Mech game to come in a long time but the lack of replay value makes it only worth a renting.

Great, but short.

This game has it all. The grapics are great, the gameplay is fantastic, and it had a good storyline. I like the vs. mode, and the bosses were HARD! They were a nightmare to get through. However, the game is short. I beat it in 5 hours. And this took me 2 weeks! The final boss, you can't kill him, and you run away. THAT'S IT! This is begging for a sequel. It was good, but it should've had more time. It should've had 4 discs or something. Well, It was good, but I am impatiently waiting for a sequel!

An anime movie made into a game...complete with flaws!

After playing this game, a gamer can easily tell it is not for everyone. While not perfect, "Zone of the Enders" is a pretty solid title if the gamer is the right kind of person to appreciate it.

"Zone of the Enders" plays out very much like an anime movie; The characters, mecha, and storyline are all indicators of a typical anime production. Naturally, the plot is riddled with cliches, but so is almost every good anime out there. Luckily, "Zone" isn't at its heart a movie but a game; if it were a movie, it would be as stupid and dull as "X: The Movie". And as a game, it manages to give the gamer an experience not found anywhere else.

The gameplay of "Zone" is fast-paced mecha action. The control-scheme is simple, the pace of gameplay is perfect, and the lock-on feature during battle is a pure joy. The gameplay does stale somewhat as the game progresses, but it's somehow always a gem to play. I wish that all mecha-fighting games were this beautiful.

Accompanying the lovely gameplay are sweet graphics. The mecha (called an Orbital Frame in the game) that you command is a work of art to look at. The characters are very well drawn, and the environments, while a little claustrophobc, are nicely layed out. It was arguably one of the best-looking PS2 games when it was released.

The sound department is a mixed bag. The sound effects are sweet, especially the sound of an Orbital Frame's laser sword slashing through an enemy. The disappointment possibly lies in the dubbing. The English voices for the characters are by no means terrible, but they definately could've been improved. The voices range from acceptable (ADA, the program of Jehuty, the player's Orbital Frame) to eyebrow-raising (Viola, an enemy) to almost laughable (Leo, your mech's driver).

Another tragic flaw in "Zone of the Enders" is its length. Dedicated players can probly finish this game in two to three days. And the ending is a terrible cliffhanger, terrible in the sense that it makes the gamer feel cheated out of more great gameplay. Thankfully, finishing the game unlocked a two-player versus mode, which I found incredibly sweet. Players use a single screen instead of a split screen, which makes for a teriffic and refreshing mode of fighting. Of course, the two-player mode isn't too revolutionary and it's best played with a friend and not the AI, which can be quite a challenge but stales after a while.

All in all, "Zone of the Enders" is a unique game that should probably be tested before bought. Like an anime movie, it has a cliched plot, a questionable dub, a fist-clencing ending, and an unwanted length. But the overall experience is enough to make some gamers look past the flaws and at the game's core: the excellent gameplay.

Of course, with its cliffhanger ending, virtually everyone knows a sequel is inevitable. And a sequel has been released...for the Game Boy Advance and not the PS2! Why this happened is questionable, and the gaming engine isn't even the same. Fans of "Zone of the Enders" can only hope, pray, and send petitions so that a sequel that's bigger and better than the first will be made for the PS2. Allowing a potential series like this to be degraded to the GBA would be a real shame...

Stunning visuals

I think the editorial review did a good job of summarizing this game. I am not going to repeat what was in that review except for: the visuals are absolutely stunning. It is the most visually stunning game I've seen so far for the PS2.

Here are a few things the other reviewers did not quite make clear about the game:

0. The way the game merges the tutorial into the game play is excellent and it is one of the best I've seen. It very quickly immerses you in the game.

1. The ending is not an ending. It opens the game up to a sequel. If you accept that, then the ending won't be as jarringly abrupt as it was.

2. The boy hero is really whiny. But you have to endure the whine since the hints for the next mission are imbedded in the cut scenes. After a while the story and melodrama does grow on you but abruptly ends with the ending of the game.

3. This game is well worth a rental and should take you maybe 3 or 4 hours to complete.

4. The replay value is low. Once you go thru the game there isn't a whole lot left to do. The 2 player mode isn't that interesting. The game is really more like an interactive story rather than a video game. You spend almost as much time in the story cutscenes as you do in the game.

5. Buy this game if you like collecting games- like one for each genre. ZOE is a good one for covering the anime/mechs genre as it really does an excellent job visually.
