One of the Best PS2 games so far!

This game can be summed up in one word and that is awesome! This game has stellar visuals and the movie scenes are better than that. And the controls are so easy to master!! This is by far one of the greatest video games!

What a waste

Waited so long for this game to be released and when I finally got it, I ejected it after 30 minutes. Boring characters, irritating cut-scenes, horrible voice-over. The only good thing is the MGS2 demo included. But to say that's worth 50 bucks? If you want fast paced mech action than I opt for Virtual On Oratorio Tangram (Sega Dreamcast) anytime. ZOE doesn't even come close in any aspect...

ZOE: Poor Game, Great Demo

Although ZOE has great a great gameplay, controls, and story line, the ending and complexity of the game are much below par. The ending, which some say leads into a "sequel," is much more a cheap way for Konami to get you to pay an extra ... bucks in a few months to find out what happens. There should definately be a discount for those who bought ZOE if there is a ZOE2. Either way, the MGS2 Demo is what makes this game buyable. With loads of fun "extra" features (which we can hopefully expect to be standard for PS2 games) as well as a great opening story line, the demo in itself is worth 20 dollars out of the ... that you pay for ZOE. Extremely bloody with lots of fun things to do to the terrorists on the boat, as well as 5 difficulty settings and an array of weapons, this demo is incredible. Save 50+ dollars for the day MGS2 is released so that you can be the first to get it. Don't bother going to ... to rent the demo- they take them out of the ZOE case. I've played the MGS2 demo more than ZOE and I'm glad I spent my ... bucks.

ANOTHER GREAT GAME FROM KOJIMA

I (LIKE MANY OTHERS) BOUGHT THIS GAME FOR THE MGS2 DEMO, BUT ENDED UP LOVING Z.O.E. THE CONTROL YOU HAVE OVER THE MECH IS UNRIVALED IN ANY OTHER GAME I HAVE PLAYED. GRAPHICS ARE SOME OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN YET FOR PS2. THE ONLY THING I FOUND TO COMPLAIN OF ON THIS GAME IS THE ENDING (I WON'T RUIN IT FOR ANYBODY READING THIS WHO HAS NOT PLAYED) & SOME OF THE CINEMA IN THE GAME GETS ANNOYING BUT IS WELL ANIMATED. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS GAME TO ANYBODY, IT IS ONE OF THE BEST TITLES OUT THERE FOR THE PS2. I AM A HARDCORE MGS FAN & THE DEMO SEDATED ME TILL I CAN PICK UP MY RESERVED COPY OF THE GAME.

This game is lame but buy it for mgs2 demo.

GARBAGE!

This game is one of those games that starts out fun, really cool and easy to manipulate with only a few tiny flaws that mar the surface and quickly starts on a downward spiral of sheer annoyance. I can't say any more without spoiling the game for those who still want to purchase this waste. What a shame that this game had wasted all that potential. It has great graphics, tight control and mediocre voice acting. The only way that this game sells so well is because of the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, and I can safely say that it is the SOLE reason to buy this steaming pile, pressed into a disc.

Fun , but not that great.

I'm gonna be straight up with you. This is a fun game. But its not one to keep your attention for too long. Every level is the same. You go in to a relatively small area , move toward a group of bad guys, and kill them . You can imagine after a while this can get pretty boring. however its definetly worth buying with the metal gear solid 2 demo inside.

This game is the best

I had my doubts about this game untill I rented it. The controls are easy to use and to get used to. The speed of the game is amazing. When you are fighting, you are everywhere on the screen. It is got an excellent plot and easy to understand. It is a little short for most Konami games, but I will be sure to get the second game when it comes out.

Ok, every one out there who's not sure about this game lissin up, who cares if Z.O.E. stinks? The game comes with a playible demo of Metal Gear Solid 2. Zone Of the Enders isn't that great but the demo is. It can take a few minets to beat or and hour. So get the game. Z.O.E. is a nice distraction once in a while but the demo is awsome It should keep you busy untill the full game come out, and it's almost worth the price by it's self.

Good, but far too repetitive

When I saw the first screens of this game, I was fairly impressed. But my interest really picked up when I read that it was being produced by Hideo Kojima, mastermind behind the Metal Gear series. So I waited, reading all the prerelease hype and babbling on about it to my friends. It was the first game I ever preordered. Soon I finally got it and played it. A week later, when I had finished it, I decided that while it didn't nearly live up to my expectations, it was a decent, if not spectacular game.

Graphics: Easily Z.O.E.'s strongest point. Your mech, Jehuty, is absolutely stunning. You'll find a similar level of detail on the other mechs as well. While the enviroments often look the same, they're still a marvel to look at. The best art, however, is being able to destroy buildings with your weapons and watch them crumble beautifully.

Sound: The audio aspect of the game (not including the voice acting) is also quite nice. There are plenty of tunes, most of which are catchy and have a thumping beat to them. I didn't like the piano music at the emotional parts, but I can ignore that. The sound effects are good, and suit the game well.

Gameplay: Here's where Z.O.E. both exceeded and failed to live up to my expectations. I had heard about how good the control is, but I didn't really know until I piloted Jehuty for the first time. Even at the very beginning, before I recieved instructions on how to pilot the frame, I still felt like I had control over it. It quickly becomes secondhand, which is good, considering the fast paced nature of the game. The camera work is also excellent, always positioning itself where I had a good view of things. The boss battles rule. And combat is fast paced and frantic, which is a definite plus.

Here's where the gameplay begins to let me down. First, your main objective is to fly the orbital frame from one side of the colony to the other. No individual objectives, just that one basic mission. Which means that you basically fly around doing nothing in particular, except on missions where you have to save the colony members. There's not enough variety to keep you busy. Also, there are only three types of enemies, which isn't enough. Combat is lacking in depth. You frequently get lost, flying around for nearly an hour before finding your objective. The puzzles are uninspired, and consist of destroying little objects called porters and finding passcodes to gain new weapons and abilities. The manual aiming system is woefully imprecise, which is annoying when you have to destroy porters. And finally, the game is too short. It shouldn't take more than 20 hours maximum, and you probably can finish before that. Making it worse was that the game was starting to really get interesting when it ended. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is decent overall, but these flaws seriously hurt it.

Storyline: Terrible. Simply terrible. The storyline is pathetic, especially when you consider its potential. Having read all of the previews, I thought Z.O.E.'s story would blow me out of the water. Instead, it just left me hanging. I read the game's backstory off the internet before I played the game, and it sounded great. Unfortunately, it all goes out thew window because the game completely fails to explain the events preceding Z.O.E., and it gives little introduction to the space colony that the game is set in. In fact, had I not found that information on the internet, I would have no idea what was going on. The story is a heavy-handed tale of morality that I could barely stand. No thought was put into it, except at the end. I hated the characters as well. ADA, Jehuty's computer, was halfway decent, the rest of the cast were poor. Leo is the worst hero in any videogame ever. He whines about how he doesn't want to to kill or get killed, how he feels for ADA, about his troubled past, so on and so on. Celvice serves no purpose other than to be the damsel in distress and annoy me with her remarks about saving the townspeople. Viola had a decent attitude, but didn't get enough screen time to know her. In fact, almost no one got any screen time, as so little time was spent on developing the characters. And to put it bluntly, the translation stinks. Period. Further aggrivating me is the horrid voice acting. With the standard Konami has set with Metal Gear Solid, I expected a lot more. There is one good thing, however. I can just skip the story and focus on the better aspects of the gameplay.

So far, this review has been largely slam. That's because I was expecting a better game than this. But don't let that turn you off, as the only truly terrible parts are the story, translation, and voice acting. Z.O.E. is a decent game, and you should at least rent it. By the way, the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo is simply specacular. I've probably played it as much as I have Z.O.E., it's just that good. Controls took some getting used to, but once you get past that, it's amazing. In fact, I might have given Z.O.E. three stars had it not been for the demo.
