Amazing!

This game is soooo fun, but I have only played it on PS2. Naturally, it will have better graphics on Xbox and I can't wait until it comes out. In this game, you can be Legolas (my favorite and the best) Gimli, and Aragorn. You can buy items like the Lothlorien Bow, with experience points. This is one of the best games I have ever played, but this is no match for Halo!

As good as the book and movie!

Once I got this game, I popped it into my xbox and thought that this would be a great game. I was wrong. It was a FANTASTIC GAME! I played it and played it and played it! It is awsome! You can be Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli. Although Aragorn is the strongest and best, Legolas is my favorite because he can shoot arrows car and has those two cool elvish knives in the first part of the series.

Graphics: 5 out of 5

The graphics in this game are good. They look exactly like the characters from the movies! You have many moves to get through each level, and when you beat the level, you can buy upgrades for your character. Each character has different moves and upgrades, so it's all good.

Sound: 5 out of 5

The sound is excellent. You get the same tracks from the movies, and the same sounds, except for the bows and arrows. But although the sound is different, it's still good. The sword clashes are just like from the movies!

Single Player: 5 out of 5

There is an excellent single player, there are 3 difficulty modes, 3 characters to do each level, 14 levels, and 1 secret level and character. So, you'll still have alot of fun. My favorite level is the last helm's deep level because it is so cool! My second favorite is Balin's tomb, a.k.a the battle with the goblins and the troll in the first part of the series, and my third fav is the first helm's deep, in which you have to fight orcs, goblins, and uruk-hai on the wall while kicking down ladders, but soo the uruk-hai start shooting flaming arrows at you and even launching catapult-bombs!

Difficulty: 4 out of 5

Good difficulty, except that "easy" is like "normal", "normal" is like "hard", and "hard" is like "very hard". However, it never gets impossible.

Closeness to book & movie: 5 out of 5

This game is very close to the book and movie. Balins tomb, weathertop, and all the other leveels look exactly like the scenes from the movie except for "the plains of rohan". I expected the battle with the wargs (a.k.a the wolves of isenguard) from the movie, but all it is is going into a wasteland town, getting into a small plain by yourself, and killing wargs. But it is still somewhat good.

Fun Factor: 5 out of 5

This game is very very fun. It is as good as the movie and book. It is, simply put, amazing.

Overall: 4.5 out of 5

Rent or Buy?

You should buy this game if you are a Lord of the rings fan, or have seen the movies. But if not, then rent first. Good game, though.

So Much To Do, So Addicting Gameplay!!! A Must-own!!!

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (the game) by EA Games is sooooooo much fun in so many ways. From the fantastic graphics to the breathtaking story, this game will keep you interested for many hours of gameplay to come. Here is why you HAVE to buy The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for the Microsoft XBOX.

1. Gameplay: So much fun! The basic story is well...you start out on Mount Doom (in the Fellowship of the Ring. You play first through the first movie, then the second in the Two Towers. Great deal ($$$)), where u take on as the character Isiledor (don't know how to spell his name). You learn all of the basic moves: block, attack, fierce attack, etc... Then u are ready to begin your battle to destroy the ring!

Before each level u choose a character: either Legolas, Gimli, or Aragorn. Gimli is EXTREMELY strong and high on health, but is a very slow attacker. Legolas is fast, quick, with swift attacks, and very strong moves. Unfortunantly, he is the weakest of the 3, and dies much quicker. And last, but not least, Aragorn, with a swift and cunning sword, and an awsome bow and arrow, is the most balanced of the 3. Strong, a good fighter, and pretty fast, Aragorn will get u through almost any obstacle. A very good fighter indeed.

When u beat a level, it gives u points on certain things. How well u fought, your health, your supplies, how many kills u got. With the "points" u earn, u can buy upgrades for each character and boost their level up to a 10. You can sometimes buy new equipment, new moves, new powers, etc...it's really cool. And u can go back and do each level as the other 2 characters, so u can get all of them up to a 10. In the end u have an awsome fighter, and it's really cool to see a super strong Legolas fighting dozens of Orcs, or to watch a powerful Gimli cut through dozens of Orcs in Dwarf style.

As for the gameplay itself, it's sooo much fun! Battleling through dozens of Orcs, shooting arrow after arrow, and defending your other soldiers. Imagine Helm's Deep brought to life, trying to stay alive as Legolas, shooting Orc after Orcs with arrows, and using fierce attack when it they get too close. This game is a blast, and the ability to earn points and upgrade your character just adds to all the fun. The gameplay is so addicting, and I always come back within a few hours of stopping for MORE!!!

2. Graphics: While the screenshots didn't look all that impressive, during gameplay, they look fantastic! You fight dozens of Orcs, each with the horrible, menacing teeth and face, body, and the armor to go with it. Flaming arrows fly toward you from hundreds of yards away. Respond with arrows of your own! Fight off the Ring Raithes from decending on Frodo, or fight with man-kind as you battle through Helm's Deep! It's soooooo cool, and the graphics bring it to life. Don't judge it by the screenshots, just trust me. During the game, they look AWSOME!!!

3. Replay Value/ Sound: To go with all this is the voice acting from the movie it self, and the sounds are awsome. Here an arrow THUD into an enemy, or hear swords clash in a huge underground battle. The sound was fantastic, and to go with everything else, wraps this up in a perfect package. But that's not all! When completing certain challenges, u can see clips from the new movie itself, and watch even the making of the game, and interviews of the men and women who made the whole Lord of the Rings experience so fun to be a part of! Very well put together, the unlockables will keep u begging for more!

As for the replay value, it's just so much fun to go back and try to beat it again in a new game, and of course, to raise the difficulty setting (easy, normal, hard). All in all, it's a true blast! Or tryin to go back and earn more points each time!

I hope this helped, and helped convince u to pick up this incredible game. You won't be dissapointed! Through all of the awsome gameplay, the incredible fun, and the overall depth this game dives into, this is a must-have, a classic, and a game no action loving gamer should be without (not to mention any major Lord of the Ring fan).

Thx!

Is this a Game???

In a sentence: this game lets you play the best battles of the movie, and watch the rest on DVD. Where else can you see/play a movie that is still in theaters??? The learning curve is low, and the story and music are awesome!!!

Not convinced? My girlfriend actually sat down and was excited to watch me play this game. Normally I would associate that sort of occurrence as an indication of the universe collapsing on itself and exploding into a thousand pieces. But she loved it! Its just like watching the movie, and there aren't super tough spots to get hung up on -so it goes along at a good pace.

I love this game!

Huh? Why all the hype? This game is too limited.

I just spent 6 hours in frustration. I think this game came out too fast, in a rush to beat the release of "Return of the King." The graphics were very good, but...

First off, I had trouble with being forced to watch the movie clip at the begining of the game. You can't stop it or skip through it. If you try - you merely go back to the begining of the clip and watch it all over again. After the real movie footage there is EA's computer generated movie footage. You can't skip that either. Then the game starts off with no warning. You are Isildur and you must start right in the thick of battle. Again, you can't stop or change settings or anything. If you try, you can only restart and then have to watch the movie clips all over again without being able to skip it. That is truly cheesy. The movie wasn't that great. They ought not be so proud of it.

Next, more movie footage and more computer generated movie footage. You can't skip through it either. You are Aragorn. No choice in the matter. You are stuck on the hilltop, battling Ringwraiths, protecting Frodo - you cannot leave the tiny little circle. You must defeat the Wraiths to move on. Next, you can decide if you want to be Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli. Don't get your hopes up. More movie footage that you can't skip and more computer generated footage that you can't skip. This is the case every time to move to another area. Only after you defeat the level and go back to replay as a different character can you skip the movie footage. You can never skip EA's computer generated movie footage. That alone is cheesy enough to make me give this game 2 stars. But that ain't all...

The action area is always way too small. You are woefully limited in how far you can move around. The character moves are very hard to get control of - even in the easy mode expect to die a lot. I was able to get pretty far, but the frustration and contempt proved to be too much. I quit the game at Balin's tomb and returned it to Target for a different game. The furious attempts at getting the character to move around properly and face the right direction almost completely destroyed one of my Xbox controllers. It is now in very poor shape and needs to be replaced. This happened in less than 6 hours of play. I've played Halo for days and days and did not experience this sort of difficulty. I play Halo in the "Heroic" mode and can kick butt and move around like a screaming demon. "The Two Towers" proved to be too frustrating. I mastered the moves, but often times the character failed to recognize the commands from the controller. The transition between melee weapon and range weapon was too poor. You cannot aim range weapons either. You have to face in the general area of the monster and just hope your weapon hits. Often times the monster can hit you, but you can't hit it. Again, frustrating. It's very hard to block an incoming arrow then fire off a ranged weapon. Gimli is especially slow with equiping and firing ranged weapons!

That's not all. Every few minutes of gameplay is interrupted by EA's computer generated movie sequences. Frustrating and annoying. You can't move 50 paces or fight for 5 minutes (oftentimes less than that) without the game interrupting you for some more uninterruptable footage. God, that got very old.

When you finally get to Balin's tomb, you are stuck in the tiny room where the Fellowship battled the cave troll. You cannot leave. You cannot wander around. You are stuck there. After battling orcs for a few minutes, the cave troll comes in. Here the transition between EA's computer generated movie and the action is very jerky, with gaps in the video and sound. The game actually pauses several times during this. You fight the troll for a very short time, get in a few hits, then another interruption and poor transition into CG movie footage.

Now it's time for the game to stick you up on a short and narrow ledge where you have to run back and forth and avoid the troll's chain. Very hard to do and fight back. Very boring. Very limited. I don't know what happens after that. I kept getting killed because of the before mentioned trouble with using the ranged weapons. I had had enough. I yanked the game out and put it into its case and took it back to where I got it.

I should have rented this game first, but I trusted the EA name on the box. Big fat no-no. I don't know if the game is even available for rent yet or not. If not, please wait and rent it before buying it. This game keeps getting great reviews, but I can't understand why. I bought Halo and that game rocks! The Two Towers comes no where near the freedom that you have in most games. And that's what it really comes down to. The Two Towers gives you very little opportunity to move around on your own, to make your own decisions. Limited. Frustrating. EA should have made a game about the First Age of Tolkien's Middle Earth. That way they would have been able to give gamers more lee-way and options. That, and they should have avoided all the game-play interruptions.

After only 6 hours, I will NEVER play this game again.

LoTR: The Two Towers is one of the most complete games yet, incorporating all elements of melee and ranged 3rd person combat, as well as varied attack techniques and moves, allowing for a hack& slash that doesnt get boring. The game incorporates the BOTH of the LoTR movies. If you want a great game, get this, leave the Fellowship of the Ring behind. The best part of the whole thing is that you can play as several characters from the movie, all of whom have different attack techniques, making it fun to beat the game time and time again!

thank god!

i wanted to get this game for ps2 but one problem i'm getting an xbox for christmas not a ps2 so u see my predicament but when i found out that it was going to both xbox and gamecube i was bursting w/ joy. I love lord of the rings and i waited outside the store a half an hour before it opened to get the movie the first day it came out. The movie will be a classic and so shall the game. You play as Aragorn(a.k.a. Strider), Legolas, or Gimli. there are up to sixteen levels in the game and at the begining of each level u can switch to any of the three characters. The game starts of at Weathertop( in the fellowship of the ring movie) and continues until the grand battle at helms deep. the computer characters are controlled by a.i. and I'm sure it will be a great game. Hope i helped.

I have had this for a year and i still enjoy it!

This game is tremendous. It is everything in the end of Fellowship of the Rings and the entire Two Towers. You can switch players between the levels. The characters are Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. O ya! No more Frodo and throwing rocks! What i enjoyed about this game is practically everything! The level Helms Deep was just fascinating. Also, this game has graphics that look just like the actual characters! The best part is that you can upgrade your attacks. Everything from new arrows to fire axes, and there are even great combos like Bane of Saruman, which instantly kills an uruk-hai. This game takes a pretty good amount of skill. You would think, "attack and block, thats simple." but it isnt. You have to throw in combos otherwise youre gonna burn and burn hard. There are some drawbacks, however. The game is pretty short. I rated it 5 stars because i dont care that it is short because i still play the levels and i still love them the same amount. But for those of you who want a long, fun, slashing game, i would advise Ninja Gaiden or something. The last drawback in the game is that you cant play as Gandalf! What is that!?! o well, guess we gotta wait for Return of the King for that one. Well, like always, here are your Pros and Cons.

PROS:

- Fast, non-stop action in the gameplay.

- Levels are enjoyable and fun to play as with the 3 characters.

- Helms Deep

- Upgradable attacks and weapons make this game more fun to play.

CONS:

- Game is too short, although i dont mind.

- NO GANDALF!

- Helm's Deep is 3 different levels.

IF you are a major Tolkien fan, you have to get this game. Or if you are just another hardcore gaming fan who likes action, get Two Towers because this game has some great fights.

This game is all that I expected and even exceeded some of my expectations.

The graphics really are great on the Xbox. The intertwined movie clips play nicely and I like the effect of going from movie to animation to the game. Very cool.

Regardless of what you want to hear, the game is repetitive. It is nothing more than button mashing your way through different levels. But that is OK. I knew this was what I was buying. Those that are calling this a role playing game are just mistaken. A role playing game is Morrowind where you can advance in multiple skills and classes. In this game, all you do is level up and buy new methods of killing. There are no skills to advance, there are no other stats. Actually, there are no stats at all. Only health. But again, that is OK. I knew this going in.

I bought this game for $10 used and frankly, couldn't be happier. The game looks great, the sounds are cool, and the clips from the movie fit in nice.

Just don't buy it thinking it is a role playing game, you will be disappointed if you do.

Really BIG Disapointment...

I am a really big LOTR fan!!:) I have read all the books including the Hobbit. Trust Me they are definately LORD OF THE BOOKS!! I was excited that finally New Line Cinima made a movie of the books and somebody made a video game of them, so I thought... THESE GAMES STINK!!!! ALL YOU DO IS KILL ORCS, ALL THE TIME!!!!!:( THEY ADD STUPID KILLING PARTS THAT AREN'T EVEN IN THE MOVIE!!!!!:( WHY THE HECK WOULD SOMEONE RIP UP A WONDERFUL BOOK AND MAKE SUCH A DUMB GAME!!!!!:( Sorry about my frustration, but that is my feeling!! I perfer a storyline not some dumb game where you are running around killing people!! Some levels you just stay in one room or place and kill people!! If you like games where just kill people constantly than this game is for you!! For those of you who thinks this game stinks as much as I do there is a new type of game based on the books that I liked much better than this junky game!! You journey through the book!!:) Much better, trust me!!:) I gave this game a one star because there are better LOTR games out there and this game overall is just plain Stupid with a capital s. (Wait it already has one, OH well!) Have a great day and DON'T BUY THIS GAME UNLESS THE NEXT THINGS QUALIFY FOR YOU...

*You love killing people (or in this case orcs) continually

*You want to see a great book ripped apart and made into a really dumb game

*You hate the other brand of LOTR game I told you of
