Convinced Skeptic

I bought this game a few years ago, installed it, started it, and stopped playing immediately, thinking it was not going to be any fun. I recently decided to give it another try... Well, I am convinced now that Fallout BOS is one of the best RPG's I've ever played. This game rates right up there with Torment, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale in my book. A shooter RPG... very interesting. The story is a little lame (lacks imagination), but the places you get to go, and the nuked cities you get to liberate are an example of what good programmers with imagination can accomplish when they want to. I am playing BOS through the second time now, and wishing that it would never end...

Not exciting

I played both Fallout 1 and 2, and although I knew that fallout tactics would be different, I don't really like it that much: I wasn't really excited while playing, I was bored by the plot, and I think money I spent for this game are not worth it.

Super Game!

The Fallout Tactics game engine is very playable, well balanced. I previously prefered my strategy games turn based, but now prefer Inerplay's brilliant variant of realtime/turnbased. The enemy has the right blend of smarts. If you like "Close Combat" games you will most probably enjoy Fallout Tactics.

Interplay never heard of Quality Control.

After waiting forever for something to follow Fallout 2, Interplay has dumped this game upon us. Fallout Tactics is full of bugs and serious playability issues that have ruined the potential of this game. The patches may fix some of this, but I doubt they will even come close to fixing all.

Don't waste your money on this game.

This game is Horribly un-fun

Hmmm The game pales in comparison with the two before it.It doesnt contain the same feeling, and joy I had playing fallout 1 and 2.One of the major problems was that you couldnt interact with other npc's like you could in the first two.IT added a sense of reality when choosing what to say could mean life or death. Also, the graphics in the first 2 added something to the game, there was no need to make it look prettier in fallout tactics,it just took away from the feeling.I couldnt stand the new non turn based play, although you could change it to turn based, there was no need for a new wat to play.MY suggestions for a new fallout game that would actually be good.Make the same game as the two originals and add more weapons, creatures, new places, and a new plot. The only thing I thought was worth buying about fallout tactics were the vehicles, otherwise it was pure crap.Dont waste your money.

Tactical side of the Fallout series

Of the three Fallout games, this has to be the best. You have direct control over all characters in your group(squad) and even thier atts, skills, and perks. Thier is no story as in the others which are enjoyable in thier own right, but the micromanagement and control are what you want in a game. You start out with two other members(who may or may not compliment your main character's skills and abilities) but you can control them and give complicated manuevers in real time or turn based time which ever preferred. The piloting skill is rarely used in combat and thier are others who can give you thier services as a driver, but I like driving in an RP sense, so my PC has it tagged. Speech has no place in a game about war and fighting and Charisma takes on a more important role, team performance. This game is much harder than the previous two(in real time mode) and you must use quick thinking and position/planned attack manuvers executed imediately. Some of the bugs in previous versions(1.0) such as the language filter filtering even when not turned on have been removed and now the bull-$%#@ flies as does the blood.

Beware...

Seems Interplay shipped this puppy bad files on some cd's so many people out there cannot play the game once it is installed. Graphic (inventory, backgounds) do not show up, makeing the game (ahem) somewhat unplayable. As usual with a new game, it is wise to wait a few monts/patches before purchasing unless you enjoy paying to work as a beta tester.

It's great, I just beat it and I thought it was awsome!

For all you other shmows out there, get the patch if you got a faulty game. and for that one guy who can't install, get a better computer cause you don't know what your missin! this game was great, really smooth, good graphics compared to the old ones(not saying 1&2 are bad, but this ones better!). I liked the new weapons and items and those random encouters are great! you really gotta get into this game and it will make it all the better. If you don't wanna play it because it's "not the EXACT same as the old ones," think of it as a different game and you'll love it! I sure did. O ya, the other great part is that the environments are not all the same, like in 1&2 how they only had so many walls and so maney types of floors. NO! in this one no two buildings are the same. it is so awsome. buy it and knock yerself out! and don't forget to put in your own music so you can hear your favorite tunes while you play(mission imposible and 007 themes are really good to get that "feeling") Don't miss out get and have fun! great branching out by interplay, I hope that fallout 3 has a CTB mode too.

Good if you are a fan of Fallout

When I first heard that this game was comeing out, I was in heaven. The Fallout Series is a unique, yet fun gameing experience that everyone should have atleast once. This game is not one that is beatable in a short amount of time. The options they give you in everything you do make this game alot of fun, EVERY time. The conversion from full RPG to half RPG and half Squad Based War Strategy was rather awkward at first, but became rather comfortable later on. The story line is a little strange, but the missions are alot of fun. Combat is VERY customizable, so for those of you who like Real Time Stratagy (Starcraft, C&C, etc) games, you can make it that, and for those of us who like Turn Based (Fallout 1&2)... you can do that too. In my opinion, this is a one of a kind game, and a must have for a fallout fan(though a little buggy right out of the box... be sure and download the upgrades). Over all I was very impressed with this installment in the Fallout series, and would offer this to anyone who like stratagy games and RPG's

Great, but a dissapointment compared to Fallout 2

I personally found this game good, even fun. However, when I bought it I was hoping for less combat and more Fallout. Fallout 2 is one of the three supreme RPGs for computer. The other two are Baldur's Gate 2, and Torment (which is the best game out there). It lacks the actual ROLE-playing, and is more of a combat game. Don't get me wrong- I love combat games, and I loved this one. I mean, the ability to drive a nuke carrier, a tank, an APC, weild a minigun the size of your entire body, spurt a flame pistol, and beat the crap out of robots is fun, but it is different from what I expected. THIS IS NOT A ROLE PLAYING GAME. This is, however, a highly sophisticated combat squadron game. The biggest problem? AI. None. I could lie down and snipe out every guard, even ones 10 feet away or so, and not be noticed! While using an AK-47! Annoying, but still... a fun game. A big plus is that you can lie down, crouch, sneak, even climb those ladders that were previously just there for looks! Very cool. You can stand on top of patrol towers, crawl under elevated platforms, and do tons of other intersting things.

Over all, a good use of your money, though there are better ones. Ultimately, in the top five for squadron combat games.

The reason I gave it four out of five stars was that sometimes, sometimes, the missions repeated themselves, so that I did the same thing over and over again. Oh, one thing- DON'T play on Tough Guy!!!
