WHY WAS IT RELEASED?

Most of you couldn't wait for this game. I am amazed that while I was testing the BETA software for this game I had fewer problems than I did when I started running the purchased game. I guess that they didn't learn from Verant's mistakes.

I was online for an hour the other night and only played for about 15 minutes. I was stuck in lag spikes the size of Mt. Everest. I kept fought the same critter for 25 minutes, I timed it.

Take care in buying this game until you hear positive stuff from these reviews. You will suffer more frustration than enjoyment at this point. The servers lag is unacceptable, the support is non-existent and the gameplay is for the extremely patient.

Good luck...

I will never buy funcom again

game isn't that good to begin with, add in that it is completely unplayable, and you have a huge waste of money, don't believe me, check out the AO boards. you'll have to look at the archived boards since Funcom has stopped letting people post negative things.

Great graphics, great RP and great design

Anarchy Online came out after the trilogy of Ultima Online / EverQuest / Asheron's Call. It learned from many of their mistakes and right out of the gate presented a fun, immersive world.

There is more 'context' to this game than to most of the other MMORPGs out there. You are on a mining planet which a corporation is trying to get rich from. You can join the side of that corporation, the side of the rebels fighting against them, or be neutral in the middle.

Other MMORPGs featured varying levels of customization - maybe the skin, maybe a hairstyle. Anarchy Online went full tilt into this fun and let you customize just about ANYTHING. Choose which race you want to be. Choose from a wide range of classes, each with its own skills. Choose skin color, facial details, and much more.

As this is a future world, there is "nano-technology". This means you can enhance your abilities both by using the skills you want to do better in, or enhancing yourself the scientific way.

The training missions are good and get you involved in your world. There's no "hunting for friends" - you are already starting as part of a big team that has a clear agenda. You can then choose to work on missions to help your team out, or just wander around and do what you want. You can form groups within your team to take on special challenges, or you can go it alone.

The graphics are great, from the wildernesses to the big cities to the swamps and marshes. There's both the high-tech of a future world and the low-tech of the planet you're on. The monsters are really great, and in the training area you run into "L33Ts" who spout off hilarious L33T-Speak!!

While other MMORPGs tend to have lots of people who are in it for "gaining lots of points" and don't care much about actual roleplay, Anarchy Online is great for its level of roleplay. People really do get into their characters, and talk about the aims of the group and the missions involved instead of going on "experience point quests" to "get my character to the next level."

We've played every MMORPG that has come out to test it and get screenshots. Anarchy Online is one of the few that we actually kept an account for and continued to play. We still find it great fun, and the constant improvements make the world even better as it matures.

So far noone in the family has been able to review this game because it doesn't run on any system we have and registration doesn't recognize the code key. I waited several months after purchase for this game and never a mention of monthly fee to play. I am a Tribes and Tribes2 fan and expect bugs at initial release. So far no response to Email and no phone number listed to contact just to get another key code. Double BOOOOO so far on this long-awaited expensive, monthly fee game experience.

Linda
Addendum- I should have mentioned using PentiumIII1000 256 and GforceII. This is not the problem. Two weeks after emailing Tech support I received 2 generic computer generated response and no code key or any response that acknowleges that they read my email. Since this is such a common problem a separate customer support area could route these registration questions.

Eye Candy.. and that's it.

What is interesting about Anarchy Online is how much potential this game had. Great Graphics, a solid story line, and promises that players would be able to alter the course of the game's storyline all added up to an incredible dream for many gamers. The problem is, the game failed to deliver in most areas BESIDES graphics, leaving us with just another "interesting for a week" piece of software that will be popular only until the "Next Big MMORPG" comes around. If you like running out in a big field, clicking on a monster, killing it, clicking on another monster, killing it, clicking on another monster, etc, etc, etc... then this game is for you. If you're looking for an engrossing RPG, look somewhere else.

One more important note: This game DOES contain "easter egg" nudity - that is, in certain extremely rare situations, you are able to see the genitals of some of the "avatars" in the game.

I think its silly for you to review something that isnt out of beta. Diablo II was the "EQ Killer" as well. AO is very nice, but saying that it is the "EQ Killer" and is a "5 Star" game based on a beta is not a fair and accurate review.

Some games change drastically after release. I will agree that AO Looks extremely promising, and does have the potential, but saying its a "for sure" EQ killer is a silly review.

Well, they tried.

And I give them one star for trying.

The game really does LOOK good. And it seems like it would be a great game. But it is, at this point, almost completely unplayable.

If you buy this game before they fix it (which could be months from now), here's what to expect: lag (VERY often) that can last longer than a minute, crashing to the desktop at least once an hour, computer lockups at least once every few hours, occasional inability to log in at all, items which do not work, missions which do not work, character death due to lag, and countless other minor and major bugs.

I was actually very patient with these problems until the publisher lied to its customers. First, they told everyone the "free month" (your purchase price includes one month of online play) would not begin until the game was playable. Then, six days later, with almost no changes to the game, they declared it playable and began the billing cycle.

To make matters worse, I can't even cancel my account. I'll probably have to dispute the charge with my bank. But at least I've already returned the game.

Maybe I'll try again in a few months, but I don't really have a whole lot of faith or trust in Funcom right now.

Wait for now

AO has very nice potential, unfortunately it is not now! I'm running a Pent 850, with 256 RAM, a Geforce3 with 64 (which I've had to turn down to near nothing), and cable modem..and for a great deal of the time this game is just not very playable. The game has much potential, it has beautiful graphics, the mission generators are very nice, and when it works for any length of time is a joy to play. Of the downsides, it's buggy, the maxium requirments should instead be listed as the minimum, it's laggy and the instruction booklet is a real joke. I am still sticking with the game for now, I realize that problems will be worked out, but if you looking to buy, my advice to you right now is wait.

Current State is Unplayable - version 12.6

This was shaping up to be a very nice MMORPG, at least until this past Friday, when Funcom 'patched' the software. It's really not good form to do a patch right before the weekend, because if there are any problems, the high number of weekend gamers will be very upset. This was an understatement. New bugs were introduced at an alarming rate, rendering the game level 50+ all but impossible, with invulnerable critters, critters with infinite nano, and even more problems with "hall of mirrors" effects in doorways. Funcom has demonstrated very poor customer support, neither acknowledging nor fixing these problems. Save your money.

Advice of the day: Don't waste your time on this game

I tried to post the following on funcoms offical site so that the newcomers can have a slight insight in how the game has been to current date..but as u all know, funcoms control the board 110% now..hell that is the only thing that they have 110% control over. Let me remind u that FC announced that the game was beyond the beta state and are now 110% playable. And they should therefore start billing..well the game has improved, but its still not 110%..

Well, what could we expect from our dearest Funcom.

When 12.5 patch was released alot of mid and highlvl players complains over the lack for unique monsters. The outdoors hunting gave 2-4 exp per kill (wich means that they have to kill ALOT to be able to gain a new lvl, a 100 lvl player needs 1.5M exp to be able to advance). Alternative 2 was to do team missions, the mobs would give 6-10 exp per kill (but come on..yeah the team mission is social, but VERY boring). Alternative 3: Mission run (wich is not social, boring but sadly its the only thing that gives a highlvl enough exp for his/her effort)

So instead of using their imagintation to add some new features to the game, they decide to "nerf" us all. With this I mean the 12.6 patch. Wich made soloing yellow mobs imposible. (The emergency patch was supposed to fix it..but its still almost imposible not to mention very expensive for the groups doc when the group encounter an organge or red mob. We are still not able to land a regular hit against a higher lvl mob. Each group member can only do dmg with their special attacks like brawl, MA move, dimach, aimshot, burst etc. And the MOBs nano pool is much higher than it should be...so u can only imagine how expensive it is for a doc. The result of the patch was a lot of frustrated, angry and disapointed feed back, wich Funcoms answer was to "archive". In other words they want gain full control of the bulletin boards. I dont really blame them, cuz if our new european citizens was to read those feedback, no1 would have stayed. They would see through Funcoms empty promises and realize that FC lack the words "service and common sence"

And now with the latest emergency patch, they have decided to remove an armor that players have spent much credits and time to get a hand at. (No I dont have any of the listed armors, so I am not writing this post to whine about my losses). I am just sick of funcoms punishing their customers for Funcoms fault.

Since the 12.6 patch many for my ingame friends have lost valuable items as, Yamaha (plane), Mid, Knight armor etc.
And none are getting a compensation from our beloved Funcom.

To make this short, I would like to thanks Funcom for making this game and the Norwegian ppl look like a clown. Anarhcy Online is not more than a big failure.

I wonder if they are using our money on improving this Anarchy Online or the upcoming Funcom product Midgard. But who can tell, not even Funcom knows the answer.

Alot of mid and highlvls players have canceled their account, this must be the only reason for lesser lag in "used" to be crowed areas.

THIS is why I cant recommend AO to any1
