Don't buy it for a couple of months!

This is a nice game, but the support is terrible, the gameplay is horrid, the server performance will drive you crazy. I think that Funcom really screwed up with this one and are working very hard to avoid the lawsuits that are probably coming. This game in its current state should never have been released. Bottom line, don't buy it for a couple of months. If you do, you WILL be sorry you did.

Worst Customer Service EVER!

This is the worst online game I have ever played. I have played RPGs, etc for at least twenty years from AD&D, to UO to Everquest. I have never received any in-game assistance nor any replies to my emails to funcom's customer service. I played for months only because of the people but I am frustrated with the lack of asking the customer base for opinions without introducing many new bugs with every single patch. This game should have been released in 2002 when it was ready. Don't get me started on the TCP/IP situation and lag. One star was chosen because Zero is not available - don't waste your money on this game.

Wait and see... It might be fun if it actually worked!

One star is one too many!

This game has a decent back-story and premise. That's about it. Far too many bugs and far too laggy. Terrible customer support, as well.

More than a week after my request at canceling my account, I got the following response back by email, "Your information has been collected and your account will be canceled. This request will take some time to process we are sorry for the inconvienence (sic - they can't even run a spell checker!)."

They obviously don't want to cancel my account before my "free" month is over!

This game may be worth buying once the bugs, lag, and customer service issues are resolved. For now, though, wait and see.

I'd wait to buy this game!

When I bought this game I didn't realize I was paying for beta 5. This game is not only buggy, but unplayable. Funcom should not have released this game in its present state. My advice is to wait to buy the game, let them fix all the problems first.

Does not live up to the hype

FUNCOM has got to have THE worst support team of any MMORPG

FUNCOM has got to have THE worst support team of any MMORPG yet. Among my many complaints about this company: they frequently patch their servers on Fridays and 90% of their patches are full of bugs. The bad patches don't get fixed until monday. So, if you dont want to play on the weekend. This is the game for you.

Started off with promise, went straight down hill from there

When I first purchased the game I could not get it to work. I had to upgrade my system significantly and still experience problems today.

AO has wonderful graphics but I keep crashing all the time. I have put up with this because the company keeps releasing statements that they are working on these problems. However, at each patch the performance problems get worse.

Performance issues aside, my profession has been "nerfed" so many times that any strategy I come up with to advance becomes quickly unplayable... the rules of the game keep changing, which is very frustrating.

This game has no customer support. Responses to ingame calls to the GM go unanswered for up to 7 days. There is no customer support number. Support emails are answered with boilerplate automatic emails. The game does not include a manual.

There is no 4-year epic. The company keeps assuring everyone they will be starting the storyline soon. At this point, everyone is so frustrating, I don't think anybody cares if they do or don't.

I've wasted my money and 2 months of my time.

Do not buy this game.

If you got the money, honey...

OK, so I jumped on this game when it came out in the summer of 2001. At the time, Funcom was dealing with all kinds of data issues, bandwidth problems, leaks, you name it... And, I got fed up, and quit.

Fast forward Dec 2001... I gave this game a second shot, and Wow. The concept, on the surface, doesn't seem too different than any action MMORPG out there... however, as the story progresses (A 4 year long story, might I add), it certainly becomes interesting. Hate all that "Tis Art thou?" sillyness from games like "Ultima Online?" Forget about it... no one here needs no stinkin' accent.

It's fun. Action when you want. Friendly people. You'll enjoy it. Do it... give in...

WAIT!!!!

All I can say is this game release is premature. The game looks great and I look forward to actually getting a chance to play it, because the concept and the graphics are great. HOWEVER, patching the game is a painful in a way you can never imagine. Okay, so the next day after crashes and disconnects and hours of yelling you patch the game. GREAT, lets go play the game. If you are lucky enough to connect, good luck on actually staying connected for more than minutes at a time, and if you do happen to get disconnected, expect to wait a long time before the 'dimension' you were in is active again. Also, I bought this game so I could play with friends...lo and behold when I actually made it thru the disconnects during the creation of my character I discovered I cant see my friends, or even group with them. I can send them tells, but thats about it. I'm sorry to say this game was released too early. Too many bugs and not enough information for the games is a bad thing. I am sorry I bought the game this early. A free month is offered with the game...but what good is this free month if you can NEVER play? All in all the game looks good...when you get the chance to play it for 3 minutes. And for anyone that is wondering, my computer is top of the line and fast, as is my internet. Putting up with trying to connect to the game is frustrating and ridiculous. I certainly hope it gets better...otherwise I think FUNCOM will leave a horrible taste in the mouth of all gamers...I certainly hope support gets better. Sorry, but the truth is sometimes painful.

Do NOT buy this bugfest

Please note that the glowing reviews below were written well before the actual release of the game. It has been released and is an unbelievable mess. The underlying game may be fun, but due due the severity of the bugs, it is, sadly, an unplayable piece of garbage.

90% of the users reporting on various messageboards are having constant (as in every 5 minutes) disconnects or crashes. And these are only the users that can connect, because there are thousands right now that can't create an account because of faulty or missing CD keys, a registration site that keeps crashing or the bugged updater (There are 12 megs of patches to update your CD before you can even think about playing). And even that's not the end, because thousands of the CDs shipped are faulty and will not install on your computer due to the poor quality pressing. And this doesn't even scratch the surface of in-game bugs, such as incompatibility with ATI cards, horrible AI, pathing and duping bugs. Save your money.
