Adds Enjoyment to an Already Addictive Game!

Yeah, this (the first of the expansion packs) is definitely worth it. There are five new career paths to choose from, there is more flexibility in the furnishings, and then there's the 'extra stuff' like being abducted by aliens (you'll have to figure out for yourself how you get THAT to happen, if you haven't already), becoming invisible, and even becoming a monster! As I said in my review of THE SIMS, it just made me get re-addicted to the game. For some reason, playing THE SIMS has become a guilty pleasure for me (probably for the idea that 'you can be living your own life instead of playing a simulated one' as someone has already told me during the height of my SIMS-addiction), and THE SIMS EXPANSION: LIVIN' LARGE just adds to it! But that's okay; it's really a SIMS world, and we just live in it. ;)

Even more so than the original version of THE SIMS (which you must have in order to play this CD-ROM, in case you may have tried to get around that), your system specs need to seriously be at or above the game requirements. Preferably above; otherwise this game may be real slow-going for you. Make sure that you have at least a Pentium-III processor so that you can avoid having your computer try to catch up to the game while you're playing it. Also make sure you have a good, up-to-date sound & video card, otherwise certain characters won't load properly.

But, as long as you've got what it takes systemwise, you're off on your way to Livin' Large!! :)

Awesome improvements!

I have played the original version as well as the expansion and loved them both. There are unique differences between each, however.

"Livin Large" throws in an enormous amount of new products and furniture to place at the fingertips of the sims (125 to be exact). Of course you can only appreciate this if you have experienced "The Sims" by itself. Basically, I would not recommend going out and blowing seventy dollars on both the original game and the expansion. Play the original and get a feel for the life of a sim. Then, don't hesitate to purchase "Livin Large".

This expansion offers 5 new career tracks (50 new jobs). These include slacker, journalist, paranormal, hacker and musician. Of course you can always play on one of the original careers offered in "The Sims". Also included are new characters. For example, you can purchase a robot to do the tedious jobs around the house or a genie to grant your sims' wishes. And in character creation mode, several new outfits and heads will be available. And in case your one neighborhood is feeling cramped, "Livin Large" adds three new ones. Had enough?

Be sure to check out "The Sims" and then enhance your gaming enjoyment with "Livin Large". You won't regret it.

Better than the 1st - excellent expansion!

When I got the 1st Sims, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It was the perfect game. You build houses, create families and run their lives!! I wound up playing it for hours! When I saw this expansion, I knew I had to have it. I found it to be much better. It brings in so much more that was left out from the first game:

Pros:
1)Great new skins and heads. (Roman emperor, Gladiators, Robin Hood, Maid Marion, etc.
2)Call friends just to chat
3)House themes (Haunted castle, Love shack, Futuristic bungalo)
4)New jobs (Hacker, slacker, journalist)

Cons:
1)It was a little slow loading

Excellent gameplay. I personally found the "love bed" a humorous addition. Watch your Sims go at it. Something I suggest to every Simmer is to check out (fan sites). Download families, skins, heads, household objects, etc. You can download all sorts of heads from a VERY realistic Britney Spears to Fred Durst. You can even download Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Anna Paquin (Rogue), James Marsden (Cyclops), etc. from the X-Men Movie and they're even in the movie costumes! Very Cool.

Another fun addition is the Grim Reaper. When your Sim is near death, in pops the skeleton in the black cloak. (Literally) Watch your Sim beg for his/her life.

But if you prefer a more realistic lifestyle, I wouldn't recommend "Livin' Large" as you can create Frankensteins and keep maid robots to clean up your Sims' messes.

I loved this game. I found it to be even better than the first. The Sims: Hot Date looks like it could be even better than this though!! I would definitely recommend this expansion to those Simmers who have grown tired of the regular lifestyle and are ready for some action. Another game to check out would be the Sims: House Party. But overall: Five Stars.

Great Expansion Pack!

I had a lot of fun playing the original release of The Sims, and found it to be an addictive little game. After a while, the game lost some of it's appeal and faded away from my list of regularly played PC games. Then the 'Livin Large' expansion came out and pumped new life into the old game. The addition of the new career paths was great (I especially enjoyed following the paranormalist career path). The inclusion of death (represented by the Grim Reaper visiting your Sims homes and taking loved ones away) and alien abduction (anybody seen Scully?) were also great touches. The Genie and crystal ball were interesting as well. With the 'Livin Large' expansion pack, and the increasing number of skins and objects to download from the Net, this game has a very high replay value. Maxis seems to have outdone themselves this time with this Sim game.

Should I be worried that my Sims are living better than I am? ;-)

If you have an awesome cheat code for the Sims....beware!

Love the add-on but was taken aback when I could no longer use my awesome cheat codes to obtain more financial support for my Sims, etc. I truly enjoy the new characters, Sim skins, etc. I also noticed that some of the employment opportunties earned less money than in the original Sims game. I am disappointed that the Sims never seem to get a day off and also have cockroaches showing up, even in the cleanest houses. Definitely purchase this, if you don't mind not being able to use the cheat codes for the original game. Sooner or later, they'll come out with new ones.

Solid Expansion Pack By EA

Not an excellent expansion pack, but definitely some good upgrades in this new package. I think they really could have done a better job, although I guess that wouldn't leave any room for future releases. Furniture upgrades are one of the biggest highlights. You can now decorate you house in some several different themes.

Along with five new careers they also added new ways for you Sims to get Skill points. New items like workbenches, chemistry sets, telescopes are a few of these new items available for your Sims. There are some new fun items as well to compliment the skill point items. The most popular is the new electronic maid that can clean, take care of your garden and even cook poor meals for your Sims. Other items include and magic lamp that produces a Genie, a Crystal ball, a voodoo doll to torment your roommates with, and even a vibrating bed for your lovemaking Sims.

Perhaps the greatest add on in this package is the addition of multiple neighborhoods. In the original release you only had one neighborhood to play, now with the addition of five neighborhoods allows multiple people to have play their own neighborhood.

When you get finished with all of that, there is even more out there for you to add on. Get tired of what you have on your screen you can go to the Sims website and download even more patches and updates to the game. If that isn't good enough for you there are several other websites that offer alternative patches and addition to the game as well.

With Lots of added features, fun and entertainment, if you loved the Sims, I highly recommend you pick up this well-done expansion pack. I look forward to future releases.

Still lacking

Theres a few things that I feel they left out. 1)No weekends, I mean come on, we'd like our sims to get some rest from all the stuff we put them through. 2) only pets you get is a gerble and fish, what about a puppy that you have to potty train and doggy doors to go with it? 3) what about a punching bag or some other form of exercise equip. 4) a car and garage 5) you can have babies turn into kids, but they don't grow up, niether do your other sims, I think it would be fun to have an old ppl's home 6) No baby sitter, poor old Betty Newbie got all stressed out and had to lose her job over the kid, and took her a week to recover. 7) wheres the keg? how are sims suppossed to party without beer. I could go on but I'll probably run out of room. Over all it's still a fun game, can get annoying at times, and the genie can really mess stuff up if your not carefull.

Excellent!

This game is really cool. It has lots of new options. It has new items you can buy, including Servo, the in-house all-purpose servant, a magic lamp, although I find that genie brings more bad luck than good, all kinds of new chairs, and tons more. They even have a Medieval home set, including ancient lighting, thrones, in-house out-houses, and old windows, doors, and wallpaper to match. Another cool thing about this game is it's graphics. They're even better than the first one, and they make it all look super-real. Even the sound is crystal clear. I haven't found a single flaw. Again, this game is really good, and can teach anyone about life.

A Great Addition to "The Sims"!

SOFTWARE REVIEW:

"The Sims Livin' Large Expansion Pack" adds new jobs for your sims, as well as new windows, doors, and decorations for your sims' homes; your sims will also get to try out some really neat things.

Here are several features that the software will add to your gameplay:

- An alien abduction after looking through a telescope for some time; this happens sometimes, but not every time

- A clown coming to visit if at least one of your sims sinks into a depression; this will only happen if you have the painting of the clown hung somewhere in the home where your depressed sim lives

- A change in the sim's personality or characteristic after drinking the potion made by your sim on a chemistry set (this chemistry set will also help add a logic point to your sims); some changes include reversing of the sim's personality, refreshing the needs of the sim, and turning the sim into a frankenstein monster

- A creativity point added to your sim's cummulative creativity points after making a wooden dwarf (there's a table you must purchase for doing this; just look for it), painting a picture, or practicing on an electronic guitar.

This expansion pack is strongly recommended; between this expansion pack and "The Sims House Party Expansion Pack", I recommend getting this one!

I'm Disappointed.

I love the Sims and I'm addicted to the game. However, I expected the Livin Large add-on pack to have better furniture, walls, and other objects. The stuff that is on there is kind of stupid. There's too many castle objects and the carpets & walls are downright tacky. The only thing I really like about Livin Large is the new clothes and character skins. This game is definitely not worth the 30 bucks.
