Great Game

This is one of the best games i have ever played. And the main feature i like, MULTIPLAYER. Someone complained that there were people who killed their teamembers and ruined it, well this is no longer true because people who do that get Banned from the server host which means they can no longer come back to the game. GREAT GAME

bad karma for taking over bungie...

After all the hype, I expected a little more.

To this game's credit the both the plot and vehicle piloting are very good, as well as the music. It stops there though.

First of all, the level design is horrible. Outdoor levels consist of nothing but grass, rocks and the occasional tree. Indoor areas are nothing but blank metal walls with a rare decal. Covenant areas are exactly the same, but curvy and purple. There is a total lack of garbage, living quarters, furniture, or anything. Just corridor, room, corridor, room, corridor, big room, etc., all just as empty as the last.

The weapons are 'interesting' but grossly underpowered save the sniper rifle. The gunshots are pituffly muffeled, and the assault rifle, instead of making the harsh, earsplitting stereotypical machine-gun noise that it deserved, makes a lame thumpa-thumpa-thumpa.

The AI is pretty good but falters when you stick grenades onto them at which point they charge into their comrades screaming "get it off" and end up blowing their whole squad to pieces. Aleins can drive but human AI can't!? thats fair...

Stealth is clearly a verboten word in this game. There are no silenced weapons in the 26th century (okaaayyy...) , and apart from shooting you, the covenant do nothing but stand there making it impossible to sneak past them.

I by _NO_ means recommend this game to anyone.

Halo rules all!

Halo was the absolute best game ever. I cant stand to wait another year to play it. THere are going to be two new kinds of warthogs, including a troop transport and a snow warthog, which is white and has better traction, and the old one will get a cannon that has to be recharged every three shots. There will also be a human ATV. Dont worry though, the scorpion will still be around. The The Covenant will have something very like a dropship, its called a covenant shadow with room nine people, it carries six, two are gunners who fire built in shades, and the driver. I have a hard time beliving it holds nine, but the website I checked said so. THere will also be a small version of the ghost. This time you will be able to drive the wraith tank, too. The ghost and banshee will stay. The MA5B will be replaced with a new, higher caliber, lower rate of fire rifle that also include a 2X scope. The new pistols will be highly automatic, and you can carry two at a time. Master Chief also has a new suit of armor. This time they will visit beta halo, as last time it was alpha. Cortana will be back. My prediction: Dr. Halsey survived on REACH and made Master Chief his new armor. Just so you all know: the forerunners created the covenant on the elites side. The covenants are split in to two groups: The Elites and The Prophets. The prophets have more control over them, though. It will be great plot as well as a great game.

emulation better be good!

If the transistion from XBOX to PC is great (ie the controls aernt goofy and impossible to use) the game should look better than even on the XBOX, i cant wait. I dont know why microsoft didnt do this earlier, since this orginaly WAS a PC game...

I have a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, a GeForce 5900 FX 256 MB, and 512 MB of RAM. Apparently I'm exactly the sort of person that Gearbox HATES. I have to run this at an atrocious 800x600 to get remotely smooth 30fps performance. And even if I turn all of the bells & whistles on and set everything up to max and it become a 12 frames per hour slideshow, the graphics STILL don't even come close to the quality of the Xbox version. Very disappointing. I was looking forward to playing Halo with mouse/keyboard support and better graphics. It simply isn't happening. I'll stick to my Xbox for now, thanks.

Lots of fun despite a slow, disappointing main character.

Huge props for the designers of Halo to put it in such a creative invironment. My biggest beef with so many FPS games is that the designers can take us ANYWHERE...so why do we so often end up in the same tired corridors and battlefields? With its sci-fi, ring-world setting, Halo joins the few other truly creative games like Half-Life and Alice that bother coming up with original, high concept settings.

Now the bad part:
For a combat-evolved super warrior in bad*ss power armor, Master Chief is a wimp. There, someone had to say it, so I'll take the "not helpful review" heat from the Halo fanboys. I keep hearing that Halo is the best FPS ever and it just plain isn't. Not even close and it's mostly due to the lame character abilities. His sole superhuman power is the ability regenerate from a heck of a pounding. His super hero name would be Take-A-Lot-Of-Cr*p Man. Or Timex Boy. Gordon Freeman was more powerful in the first Half-Life and he was a science geek in an eviro suit.

Master Chief can't jump particularly high or carry more than two guns and he's slower than snot. This last point is particularly irritating because Halo is full of huge sprawling landscapes for you to explore...at a tedious 5 MPH. But what about the vehicles? Well they go brisk 7 to 10 MPH and handle so badly it's a relief to get out of them (except for the flying Banshee which rules). If you get lost it can be a ten minute trek just to get back to familiar territory with no Quick Save to "unmake" your wrong turn. Going from Jedi Academy to Halo (like I did) was like going from the body of super ninja to an arthritic old man.

I know the book was based on the game, but having read "The Fall Of Reach" first, I have to say the the book got it "right" even if it was retroactively. Read the novel if you want to see what a hyped-up super warrior Master Chief really ought to have been.

playa, wha?

for the haters: you need to tweak or upgrade. that's it. this game is not a disaster. Bungie's name has not been tarnished by GearBox. your mom will not be there to hold your hand forever. there is no Santa. that's right, no Santa!!

with all details on high and 1024 x 768 res i can pull over 70 fps with vsync turned on. the game looks so, so sweet with this configuration (the ati 9800 pro card helps). with the res turned down and all details turned to "low", i can get over 200 fps with action and 400+ without anything going on. yep, over 400 fps. i've never seen numbers like that with any other game (although, Quake III has come close... but that game doesn't look nearly as sweet as Halo).

those who say the game is sluggish don't know how to configure a PC game and/or need to upgrade. these same people will be crying a river when Half-
Life 2 comes out (whenever that'll be. man, who would hack Valve of all companies? EVIL!!!!!!).

and saying the development was lacking because a patch has already been released (actually, there are several now) doesn't even make sense. PC game patches are the rule, not the exception. tons of QA testers playing this game for months cannot catch what hundreds of thousands of users (with a ridiculous number of PC configurations) can in a day. it happens to ALL software. welcome to the rest of the world, Bubba.

this game rocks. the offline play is fun and looks amazing and the online play is fast and furious. 'nuff said.

HALO is great- problems are imaginary!

For those of you having problems with why HALO can run on a "big, black, ugly toy" and not on your top-of-the-line PC, well, you should hang around the Bungie online forums occasionally, where they talk about how hard it is to go from a platform that's completely dedicated to your game to a bunch of different ones that they have to compromise for.

And as far as I could tell, most of the people who've had problems have been PC Gamers way too cool to ever play HALO on the XBOX, because, y'know, the XBOX is a toy. Listen, people, the problems you're having are being fixed. Like I said, check out the Bungie support forums, they're doing everything they can to help you guys out, and you're just like "Blah, blah, HALO sucks, I'm taking it back." I did everything they said on their support forum when I had problems, and now it's fine. Oh, and yes, I'm sure game'll run slower at 10000 by 50000 resolution- but so will any other game out there.

The only other point I'd like to make is that, also, HALO was designed for realistic, balanced gameplay. YES, the Master Chief can only carry two weapons. I'm sure that in "real life", geeky science people like Gordon Freeman can carry at least a dozen different types of weapons, and run at 15mph+ for four days straight, et cetera- but not in HALO, and that's one of the things I enjoy the most.

But, yes- HALO for PC rocks! I still like it better on the XBOX (because I've mastered the control set, and now I keep getting beat in HALO multiplayer), but with the Shade and Banshee in multiplayer, and the fuel rod gun and flamethrower in single player- well, it makes me want to (censored) myself.

My system is a dual 1.2g Athalon with a 128mb video card with 256M of RAM, btw.

Halo PC is still BETA

I wish there was an option for 0 stars.

I was excited to get Halo for the PC, it was fun on Xbox and the chance to play online was really exciting. After playing the game for a few months I have realized that his game is basically still in beta. I cannot enforce this enough, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. You will be frustrated to no end by lag, warping, bugs, you name it Halo has it. Gearbox promises updaes and rarely if ever delivers, after months the editing kit is still not here, the communnity has basically vanished since the release of the Unreal Tournament 2004 DEMO. Thats right, the free demo to UT is better than this. Halo was an excellent game on xbox and the campaign mode on PC is great but multiplay is worthless. Many of the servers are empty now and very few are even playable. Dont plan on hosting this game with anything less than dual Xeons and a T1. The netcode is TERRIBLE huge lag, warping. Vehicles are useless as they warp so bad, explosions rarely if ever do correct damage, I could go on and on. Try the demo first, you'll see. The game also offers no FOV adjustment or mouse adjustment. In the end Halo PC is only good for Campaign mode and that doesnt even have co-op which was the best part of Halo (gearbox has been promising that for a long time as well) again, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, get UT or Half Life or ANYTHING just dont play Halo, it is just BAD.
