Telemundo buys SimCity3000 engine, but renders sims better

Not listed above, it does run on winXP. People pointing rifles at your capital building is kinda wrong. Hot keys do a virus like take over of the machine after you are done, forcing a reboot (i.e., 'r' brings up the run menu). Otherwise this spanish sim is more fun that the first SimCity. Earth grid and weather look exactly like SimCity3000. When you start there are no easly levels, but there is one Moderate so it is kind'a a pain to figure out who needs what. And eventually you grow to hate your people, so I'm giving it a 3 for that. But it is a good step forward in Sim graphics and humor.

tons of fun

this is such a fun game, the music, the variety, all is great! the scenarios are very challenging and some are downright hard and frustrating when the people vote you off the island! i only wish they gave you more hints on how to win some of the scenaeios or to satisfy people's complaints, but i guess then it wouldn't be so challenging, huh? can't wait to get the expansion pack!

Great Game

This game is very good and very fun. You get to be the dictator of a small carribean island. You can play a regular game or a scenario. Just in a regular game, your goal is to build up the economy with and make money either with industries like cigar factories and canning factories, or raw materials like lumber mills, farms, mines, or fishing docks. You build all sorts of entertainment facilities from a sports complex to a pub. You can also build different kinds of residential buildings like apartments, or luxary homes. If you want to you can build up the tourist industry, make an airport, or a power plant. While your population relies on births inside the country, which occur very often, you also must rely on immigrants, which come in droves, if there's work.
But thats only half of it. You must also please the different political factions so that they don't rebel, plan a coup, or demand an election and vote you off. You can bribe the faction leaders of appease the factions by doing what they want, ex: Build a church for the religious faction, or improve housing for all for the communist faction. The music of the game is great and helps add to the feel of the game. If you have ever wanted to play a game where you are a dictator, this is your chance.

Good start, bad end

Ok, if you're thinking of buying this game I would not recommend it uness you like managing things. This game has a few good pros and some really bad cons. For example the graphics in the game are really detailed, but their stale and lifeless. The only fun I really had playing this game was when I first started a game. I enjoyed building up my city with buildings like pubs, farms, and even a hotel or two. The game can even be addictive after you build an electric plant. But what happens once you've built everything and you have a good economy? There is nothing left to do except treat you citizens as Sims and make them start a coup against you. But like I said earlier, get this game if you like games that go on and on without end or something to do.

Castro look out!

I was a big fan of Sim City and The Sims but Tropico combines them both. In my opinion, Tropico is much better because the Tropicans have minds of their own. They go to work, eat, sleep, and entertain themselves on their own. The animations of the Tropicans going about their business are terrific. There are many more variables to control and more tools at your disposal for you to discover what your Tropicans want to make them happy and successful. You can play the role of a Presidente that tries to appease your Tropicans or you can play the role of Dictator and issue edicts to make your Tropicans do what you want. Each Tropican is an individual. Some will try to get married and raise families. You can trace their family trees. If you upset 1 Tropican, you run the risk of upsetting an entire family. If you aren't able to find what they need, they will simply leave YOUR island for a better one.
Tropico is much more open ended than the "playing with dolls" format that you find with The Sims. The built-in scenarios are very challenging and the soundtrack is outstanding. I found every game in The Sims to be the same: Feed your Sims. Send them to work. Send them to bed. Send them to the bathroom. Keep them clean. Tropicans are much more self sufficient. Strategy changes the bigger your island becomes. Strategies that worked well in the beginning of a game won't work when you have a thriving island full of tourists competing with your Tropicans for things to do. The low price makes Tropico a fantastic value.

Well, I can describe this game as one of the tourists describes my island on the game. A nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here. This is a very entertaining and fun game for a while, but the novelty wears off too quickly. It's just not much fun after your first few games.

Just got the game. I played several hours, pretty addictive. Sort of a combination of Black & White (without the silly monster) and Settlers (without the moving army). If you like non fighting simulation games, this is for you.

Well the intro is pretty funny

Certainly the packaging is cute with the comic book Castro, complete with cheeky grin, squeezing a couple of beach babes. And the intro will have you smiling to, but there aren't too many other humour injections after that.

The gameplay itself is pretty well thought out, though the implications of chosing to play a Commie or a Yank are pretty arbitrary, and there are a fair few elements which are straight-forward repetitive (eg If you get asked whether you want an election and decline you get the same response from your advisor every time).

Overall, the potential is great but if the diferentiator between this game & other SIMs is meant to be the humour & the exercising of crazy South American politics, then it doesn't really achieve it's goal. Slightly disappointing.

Amsuing and not too stressful

This is an enjoyable game, with a few interesting features. The premise is simple; you are the dictator of a Banana Republic. It combines the play of SimCity (money management, building placement, and infrastructure maintenance) with the resource management of Warcraft (build farms, sell products). In addition, you can personalize your character with some entertaining traits. The few flaws involve some minor graphics hitches, and the lack of serious micro-management tools which might annoy some hardcore sim gamers. All in all quite fun.

Topico not so heavenly

If your thinking about purchasing 'Tropico' then you should think about playing the demo first. I played the demo to begin with and was quite pleased with the playability of the game since it runs fast with any 3D Accelerator card. To me it's just another 'Sim Game' where you would build up a tropical island and manage it in many areas such as entertainment, political and of course...financial.

The game is very appealing at first when you start to play it especially in the demo version but of course, like all demos your restricted on certain options which entices you to buy the full version. You don't so much as interact with any of the people within Tropico but you do have to keep them happy in the areas stated at the end of the first paragraph. Given a island, your on your way as you start building residence, entertainment centres, police stations etc keeping track is easy but does prove to be a challenge once you get into the game.

Conclusion The game is a very nice game to play but can get a bit too repetitive. Play the game for some time then put it away in the back of the drawer and play it again when your bored...some people though like this type of game and I do not wish to put you off it...just make sure you play the demo and if you love the game...I'm glad but it's just not me.
