Not the best in the FF series

I have been so excited about this game, and I must say I am pretty disapointed. It's not a horrible game as far as RPGs go, but as far as Final Fantasy goes you wonder what cleaning product someone was sniffing when they designed this. Yeah, lets change clothes in the middle of battle. I don't like the idea of an all girl cast either. Maybe an all girl cast would be okay, but these broads are lame. I liked Yuna much better in FFX, Rikku must have some left over Sin toxin because she somehow got even more stupid and annoying, and Paine is trying to hard to be like a man. The soundtrack is a big let down as well. I also miss Auron, he was my favorite charachter in FFX (yeah, yeah, I know he's dead and got sent in FFX, but STILL). The dilalouge is horrible. Brother trying to get it on with Yuna all the time in annoying too. I've seen some on reviews from hard core FF fans that chicks may like this game better. I am both a hardcore FF fan and a chick, and I'm not that impressed. The graphics are really good however. And like I said before it is not a horrible game, because I am still playing it, so it is somewhat entertaining. Just not what I have come to expect in a series of such great games.

Flawed But Fun

I never played the original FF games but a few years ago I got into the series and was very pleased. With few exceptions the Final Fantasy series is the best RPG series on any console of all time in my opinion. So when I recently purchased FFX2 I was really excited.

I heard a lot of complaints about this being a 'girls' game, complaints about the armor system and the relative theme of this game being too feminine. Being a woman I guess I could be biased but while I find flaws in the game none of these are legitimate. I don't want to rehash what everyone's already said so I will just touch on what struck me.

First I loved the all girl cast. Not because they were girls, but because usually female characters are secondary even in FF and it was nice to get a chance to really kick some but. I enjoyed playing all three characters and didn't miss the plethora of playable characters at all. In fact I find that having two many characters to level is both distracting and pointless. Second the dress spheres were both convenient and fun to use. It was easy to understand how to use the dress spheres, there was a nice variety of abilities and I can't tell you how nice it was to not have to circulate through hundreds of pieces of armor every time I wanted to change my characters abilities. You still get to choose their accesories so you won't have item withdrawl. Finally, I liked the storyline for the most part. You see plenty of violence and drama in video games which is all fine and well but you rarely see love. Characters that actually seem to care about each other, who miss each other and worry about each other was not only endearing but also realistic. For anyone concerned that the game will be overwhelmingly 'girly' I assure you it is not gushy at all.

Now for the flaws. I absolutely hated the chapter system which to me felt very restrictive. And I was often bored, especially during the last two chapters because the tasks became either repetative or pointless. At one point there is a maze in which you must do complicated math problems to precede, in another a 100 level maze that grows increasingly hard to navigate. An entire chapter is devoted to basically making phone calls from your vehicle to various places in Spira for no reason.

My biggest complaint is that the designers, in making a sequel, were able to used pre-created characters, land, monsters, etc which you would think would give them more time to make engaging and fun content, storyline and missions. Instead it seems they got lazy and threw in a lot of 'filler'.

Still, the storyline is unique, the graphics beautiful, the music is fresh and the voice acting is tops. Overall I would give the game 3 1/2 to 4 stars out of five. If it were any other game I would give it a higher score but we all expect something more from the FF series, they have to live up to a higher standard. Overall a good game and definately worth the now greatly reduced price.

What is there to say but...THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!

I am a big fan of final fantasy and I love FFX. So after the ending of FFX I knew that wasn't it. It couldn't be. Then This game came out and all my dreams came true.

First off let me tell you that all the other reviews say that Yuna "Gave Up" on her summoning. She didn't give up you idiots she can't be a summoner anymore because all of the faiyth are gone. Any hardcore fan of FFX would know that. Any way now she is a sphere hunter and works with Rikku (from FFX) and a new face named Paine (the badass). Together they are the Gullwings or YRP. So...instead of Yuna summoning up Bahamut and kicking major fiend ass she busts caps in their asses. That's right she is a first class Gunner. A new thing about FFX-2 is that there is a new job system and the battle system is back to the old school time bars. Anyway back to the story. Yuna finds an old sphere of an old friend (Tidus) or at least it looks like him and she sets off to find out what happened to him. Let me warn you now that there are three different endings. One you get by just beating the game, the second and better one you get by getting more than 60% completion and hitting the "O" button when Yuna is in the farplane and hears a whistle at the end. The final and best ending you must get 100% completion and do the whistle thing and a faiyth will ask u if you want to see "him" again. Say yes of course and you get the final ending. Beating the game is pointless if you don't get the final ending so talk to everyone and make sure you do every side quest. The game is awesome and has the graphics you can expect from square-enix. There are quite a bit less CGs than FFX but the ones there are rock. The only graphical problem I had was how they can't make the mouths move to what they are saying (they'll get it one day). But the voice acting is phenomenal. Expect a new vocabulary and music experience. For example: in FFX you just "get" potions but in FFX-2 you "Score" potions. I personally liked this edition to the game. The music is awesome the big change is that instead of being gloomy all the time like most FF games it's all active and fun. Well that's about all I have to say besides that if you are an FF fan to buy this game. You won't be disappointed.
P.S. make sure you play FFX first or you'll be lost.

This is a really awesome game. I think most people, even the biased, while be satisfied with it. If you've played FFTactics, you'll be familiar with different job classes. This is the same in some ways. You can choose to be a gambler, singer, gunmage, white mage, black mage, and so much more!

There also isn't aeons, now. It's a "Summonless Age." The game has three female lead characters: Yuuna, Rikku, and Paine. I won't spoil it and say whom Paine really is.

There's also Lenne, a woman who likes incredibly similar to Yuuna and a man by the name of Shuin who has an uncanny resemblance to Tidus....

I'm semi-looking forward to this game in the states, just to see how bad the dubbing is. If it's anywhere near as bad as it's prequel I'm not touching it!

The theme song is sung by the lovely Koda Kumi, it's called "Real Emotion." It's an up-beat lively song! I'll be glad to send an MP3 your way if anyone would like, because Squaresoft might dub the awesome song.

All-in-all, this game is GREAT and has a MUCH happier ending than it's predecessor. So everyone reserve your copy and hope Squaresoft didn't make mincemeat out of it!

Not bad as far as sequels go

Warning: If you hate FFX, do not play this game. And be extra careful when reading some of these "reviews" that are nothing more than a handful of prepubescents who mom and dad finally allowed to surf the net alone.

Let me get to the point: This isn't meant to be a cohesive game that's going to add a magical extra chunk to the FFX universe. It was meant to be a hold over from FFX to FFXI, and in general just a fun game.

The music is a disgrace for the most part. Apparently the people who composed The Bouncer were allowed to take a shot at X-2, and obviously the results were less than favorable. And to think I once criticized Xenosaga for having too much ambience! It would have been a blessing in X-2.

There is a huge (and I mean fricken huge) American pop culture base to this game. Unfortunately. So yes, it does give off that creepy pop teen Charlie's Angels feel, and yes it is not always a good thing.

Minigames truly do bite the big one here. I thought Blitzball from FFX was a poorly thought out game. But they somehow managed to ruin it in X-2 even more, and the other minigames that are here, are not worth the time or the effort.

Everything else is fine. Great visuals, returning places, decent voice acting (Yuna doesn't sound <> burned out in this one) Battle system is revamped ATB, and goes pretty quick. New Game Plus, 3 endings to give you a reason to replay. It's worth trying if you like RPG's. But if you hate (and I mean really hate) FFX, go find something else to do. Buy a book, or the oversized paperweight/microwave.(I think it's called the xbox)

This is what you have to do...

... to make this game anything near interesting.

This game is measured in percentages. If you play through the story and do NONE of the side-quests... you'll end up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 50%.

50%!

That's HALF the game. AND... you'll finish in three days (that's how long it took me)... what's more, you'll also get the 'normal' ending in which none of your Tidus prayers are answered.

In order to make this game worth the 50 bucks you paid for it you NEED to do the sidequests. If you don't then you're just skipping the other half of the game... and you're also missing vital chunks of PLOT...

.. thus rendering the game hollow and trite.

What's more, most of the twittish dialogue seems to be on the MAIN STORY ARCH... so if you're doing the sidequests it gives you time to forget the last bit of inane idiocy before they serve up the next helping.

If you play the game through without any of the quests you'll be so sick of it so quickly that you'll want to hurl.

It CAN be worth it.

But only if you make it.

Chick flick + kill 'em game = ??

Final Fantasy has slowly become a shining star of commercialism, falling in with such big fish as Disney, Hollywood and the like. With increasingly younger and prettier main characters in a 40-hour love stories, the Final Fantasy series has been specifically directed at the pop-teenage demographic since its arrival on Playstation. This had made no damage to the quality of the series, which has still been able to deliver poignant, intelligent stories and fully developed and involved characters (such as in Final Fantasy X).

Final Fantasy X-2 is the epitome of this drive toward teeny-bop commercialism. This game contains qualities of the quintessential "chick-flick." Lulu and Wakka are now together, and as Wakka stresses over how to be a father (and sends you looking for spheres over said topic), the ladies swoon over the thought. There's melodrama between Dona and Barthello, both torn between the church and the rebels (Barthello will only use his screentime to scream "Dona"). Yuna is provided with her foil, the stuck-up, pompous and over-cleavaged leader of a rebel sphere hunter group, LeBlanc, who has her own true love in the game. None of these relationships, nor many others, are given any more thought past the concept. Oh--Not one new voice actor sounds over the age of 20.

In light of all the aspects of the game geared toward cheesiness for the girls, FFX2 has overcompensated with plenty of skin for the boys, as well as providing the necessary amounts of violence for a FF game. Yuna shows off more leg than last time, Rikku's thong rises above her short skirt, and LeBlanc sports a dress no doubt inspired by JLo.

Is this worth a buy? Wait until it doesn't cost $50. The acting has improved, as well as the graphics, but the storyline and characterization have suffered. (The story that developes has little to do with FFX, and very little with the characters you're playing). Be warned: the cheese will be thick.

Not a good sequel for FFX...

I wouldn't say this is a good sequel for Final Fantasy X. X-2 does not have a plot, just Yuna and her friends trying to find her long lost love Tidus, which does not make it a real plot. And don't even get me started on Yuna in X-2! I mean, what did they do to her character?! What happened to the serious, devoted Summoner in Final Fantasy X? Now we just have a girl who's a singing pop star! Okay, I like how she's looking for Tidus and all, but not her new wardrobe and personality. And what's the deal with the short shorts? It's like she threw away her staff and purple dress. I also did not like her appearance, she looked so much better in FFX. Her face was like, much more... pure?

She's just so... open and direct. Probably from Rikku's influence.

I liked FFX, but NOT X-2.

I had more Fun Playing Final Fantasy Tactics

It's funny that I had more fun playing final fantasy tactics for the psone than final fantasy x-2. And that only cost me $14.00 DOLLARS!. The cg scenes in the game are beautiful, but you get confused is this just a movie you have to unlock by playing a bad game. This should have been a dvd movie not a game, it reaks of final fantasy the spirits within. It comes no way near final fantasy 3 for the snes. Which came out almost a decade ago. Why because that way a game with a story, and no Movie/Game/ Jpop Music video/ britney spears/nsync/ Charlie's Angels. A Short Video showing what happened to Tidus would've sufficed. This game is not for old school final fantasy fans, the same fans who were drawn to the series because of it's serious story plots, adventures and romances. The original series was in the same style as tolkien. Readers of both tolkien and players of the original d&d system loved those games.

Not a Final Fantasy

While the graphics are pretty and the premise somewhat fun this game is more like dress-up. Contantly changing dressspheres and utterly chaotic battles take away from the technical gamer. Those looking for a story will be dissapointed as there isn't much of one . Much is left unanswered and there are many inconsistencies between this game and its' supposed prequel. The music is simply painful. This isn't a game for gamers or for people who like Final Fantasy. It's more like a game for a 13yr old girl (most of whom aren't gamers). I would avoid like the plague.
