Nice game, but quickly got boring...

I agree with Cloudman on most of his remarks. I found the dresspheres to be really interesting and fun to work with. It was also really nice to see the girls dressed in the different outfits, and they even had their own individual attire. I have played many RPG's and one does not normally get to "see" what weapon or armor they paid $10,000 (or more) dollars, gil or gold for. however, in this game, you normally have to find or work for your weapon/armor and some of it does include money as well.

This game can be fast-paced at times, and does leave you much room to do what you wish, but this is where the bad part comes in...and that is with the quests. Not only do they help you to advance the story, but you can also do extra side-jobs to gain additional treasure, money, dresspheres and so on. Money is almost useless in this game except for buying some well-needed curative items for your initial start and getting through one or two quests. The quests are basically very boring, and some have you running all over Spira. Even most of the minigames were boring, though Sphere Break did manage to hold my attention for awhile. The yellow-feathered friends? I always loved this part, but they just seemed like typical birds in this game. *yawn*

If you have never played a Final Fantasy game before, I would highly recommend Final Fantasy VII because it is the best I've played thus far, and hope to eventually find one that can even match it.

I love this game

Okay...I don't understand why people hate this game.

The battle system I actually like...it's more realistic than attack-be attacked-attack in my opinon. It may be annoying to have to wait, but if you are strong enough it shouldn't be the reason why you lose the battle.

I saw a lot of reviews bashing the fact that the clothes got skimpier and Yuna got "ditzier". To tell you the truth, Yuna really didn't change all that much. She's more fun, but she hasn't turned into a ditzy blond like half these reviews are portraying her as. Sure, the clothes got skimper, but it's not a big deal. I know people who dress skimper than that to SCHOOL. Plus, Yuna's clothes in FFX were way too...conservative for my tastes. I mean, people her age DO show a little skin. It may seem out of character for a person like Yuna to dress like that, but 2 years can change a person. I wasn't the same person 2 years ago. Similar, but not the same. So why shouldn't Yuna be a little different.

Also, other people complained that Tidus wasn't in it. Don't make me laugh. These people...where did your brains go? Of course he isn't in it. Did you see the end of FFX? Did you even PLAY FFX-2? Obviously not. Clue, if you are going to review something, know what your talking about. If not, people will not hesitate to deplore you.

Many people also complained about how the opening scene was boring. I actually thought that it was interesting. Kind of confusing, but it was different. Pretty much pushed you into the game. I like that in a game.

I also liked the fact that there weren't as many extensive cut scenes. As much as I loved FFX, some could call it a semi-interactive DVD for the PS2. It's too much of a good thing if you are itching to role-play instead of watch lengthy cut scenes.

Many people didn't like the music. As a J-Pop fan, I'm glad that they put in that. Everything set the mood for the scene or whatever you were doing.

The graphics- flawless. I don't think anyone critized the graphics. I mean, with good graphics, who could complain. But alas, graphics don't make a good game. They are just a nice added bonus.

All in all, the game is great. But if you despise anything that good even be compared to Charlie's Angels, skip it. The three girls kicking butt thing will kill you. But I got it used for like $10, and it's definatly worth that. If you aren't sure about it, rent it. I hope I was helpful.

Sincerely,

A FFX-2 Fan

Very Nicely Done

Final Fantasy X-2 begins several years after Final Fantasy X has ended. Yuna has joined up with a group of sphere hunters called the Gullwings. Why? Well, she has a feeling that Tidus is still alive, and she is trying to find proof.

But for once in a Final Fantasy game, the story really doesnt matter. I finished the game and I'm still not entirely sure what is going on story line-wise, yet I loved the game. The game is very fun. As opposed to the conventional Final Fantasy, X-2 is more about exploration. Mountain climbing as opposed to dungeon crawling. The new clothing grid is almost as exciting as Final Fantasy V's job class system.

The fighting system is interesting, but not innovative. It is, however, nice to be able to switch clothing in class (change your abilities).

The game is also very light-hearted. Despite the serious storyline, the game is fun. You spend alot of time hopping around mountains, singing, chasing after your enemies--not nearly as much deep thought and dark plots of previous Final Fantasies.

On the downside, the game only has three playable characters. I always enjoyed Final Fantasy IX's allowing you to use four characters out of nine at any given time. X-2 has only three. Yuna, Rikku, and a new, depressed character, Paine. While some old characters are in the game, they play minor parts. While this saps the variety of the game, the clothing grid keeps it from getting repetitive.

All in all, this is a very fun game. If you are looking for a deep, moving drama, then X-2 is not your game, try Final Fantasy VII, but this game is incredibly fun. Final Fantasy X had a good story, and it's interesting to see how the storyline progresses.

The first sequel to any plot in a final fantasy game was the most fun i have ever played with the series. the Demo that was just released by OPM (official Playstation Magazine) was a brief look at how awesome the game is. with a dash of final fantasy 2, 7, and 4 and mixed with its prequel Final Fantasy 10 it became the best RPG in the series mixing tough puzzles, upgradable weapons and accessories and the Garment grid system together with original characters, the second rpg with a powerful vocal system to make the game as realistic as possible. it also features new friends, enemies, bosses and powers that are unlike the originals. They also introduce Paine, the new replacement for lulu and a new addition to the long cast of characters. the only problem is that it is rated Teen for a reason there is some mature sexual content which is really only skimpy outfits were sometimes the ladies are half naked but only in a couple times and with a couple transformations during battles do u see this. so fortunately you will get this game and enjoy like i will

A non-linear approach does wonders.

When ever I buy a new Final Fantasy game (since FF7) People laugh as I buy it but take a couple of weeks to get interested. For example you spend on average 50-60 hours playing FF7. A game where the story is as equally as important as the gameplay, you become used to everything about the game from characters to controls to environment. You finish the game and then the next installment comes out, only it's different. Different characters, different world and often very different gameplay. I think at first that this is to different so I don't bother until I have time on my hands. I give it a chance then i'm hooked. Becuase of this attitude I was compelled to play FFX-2 as it's something i'd hoped to see for a while. Even though the game play is Very different from FFX it had me gripped straight away.

The non linear approach and almost instant freedom of movement fixed a major complaint about FFX which gave you very little choice at all until right at the end. The story is cleverly continued from the previous game and is told in a much more light hearted and cheerful approach. The graphics and sound are perfect for the game and seem much crisper and smoother than FFX.

The battle system is one of the best yet, fast paced and very versatile, allowing characters to change jobs during battle having there attributes and abilities change with them.

As the game is almost completely non linear and focuses on a mission system, it is possible to complete the game in a short (by FF standards) 15 hours. Only a select few missions essential to the main plot are mandatory. However undertaking these missions allows for extra weapons, items and spheres for unlocking new jobs and abilities You are also given a percentage whenever you save the game to tell you how much of the game you have seen as it is possible to complete the game and have a final score of around 50 - 55%. To that ends a "New Game Plus" feature has been added for those who complete the game. You can then restart from the beggining and retain averything you have earned allowing you to hunt out those hidden missions and secrets, and even unlock different endings to the story (4 in total I think).

All in all this game has plenty to offer any Final Fantasy fan. The only potential bad point is that if you have not played FFX you will not get anywhere near as much out of this game as those who have as elements of the story maybee difficult to follow and may seem quite stupid if you don't know whats going on. So in closing this is a gem of a game and is an essential to any Final Fantasy gamer.

Weak, little more than fan service

If you're expecting anything anywhere near as good as any other Final Fantasy game, you're in for a huge disappointment. If you're a shallow 13-year-old boy eager for fan service, welcome home.

The bad:

Characters. Imagine an annoying stereotype of a dumb, shallow woman who spends most of her time jumping up and down giggling and talking about make up. That is how the three main characters are portrayed. If you like Yuna or Rikku in FFX, you're likely to be very irritated by what Square turned them into. This cheesiness permeates every aspect of the game. In order to change job class, you change their "dresses," and the characters strip and put on a new dress every time you change their job class. A mini-game even entails one girl giving another a massage and you have to press the right buttons to massage her well. And let's not forget the scene where they all splash about in the water in their underwear, giggling.

Story. There isn't really one. It's mostly the three characters going around the world map fighting unimpressive enemies and giggling. As an example, FFX opened with a character's city getting destroyed by a gargantuan powerful force. FFX-2 opens with a pop concert, and the theft of Yuna's outfit.

The good:

Battle System. Now this is great, which is why this game got three stars instead of one. You can actually change job classes in the middle of a battle, and characters improve their stats within each job class instead of overall. The jobs have some of the classics, as well as some interesting new ones. The battles themselves are varied and complex, as are the various interesting abilities the characters can acquire.

Graphics. Awe-inspiring. If you can grit your teeth through the cheesy dialogue, irritating characters and complete lack of story then you will see a very visually beautiful game and absolutely breath-taking FMV's.

This is a disgrace to the Final Fantasy Series

What in the world were SquareEnix thinking when they created this game. I can believe they would dishonor the Final Fantasy series by creating this piece of junk. I am truly disappointed and I hope that they will redeam themselves with FFXII. Why am I so upset. Well first, I don't like the idea of playing all characters at the beginning. Next, there are only three playable characters and they are not unique. The only thing that makes them unique is their dress spheres. In addition you can't customize your characters either, true you learn abilities with their dress sphere but all those abilites change when you change their current dress sphere. Also, why did the designers have to make all playable characters girls? I know the designers were trying to appeal to both men and women but they went to far. There isn't any character development to speak of, in all other final fantasy games you got to know the characters and their background but in this game they remain a mystery. Next, the story, well their isn't really one. The designers made the game non linear and sacrificed the involving storylines present in all other Final Fantasy games. The most disappointing part of this game was the final battle. Both Vegnagon and Shuiyin were a wimps. They were just too easy. I wanted to have a nice epic final battle like in FF2, FF3, FF7, or FF8 but Shuiyin only has 23,000 hit points. I was able to beat him in four hits and my characters were only at level 45. The ending was even more disappointing for it last only about 3 minutes, this included only three cutscenes at the end. I know there are other endings but I don't wish to waste my time going through this worthless excuse of a game. I have every final fantasy game on the market but this is the only one which I decided to sell for $10 because that is how much I feel this game is worth. Don't waste your money on this game and pretend as if it never existed.

I have been a longtime PlayStation and PlayStation2 gamer and so far, this has to be the best game I've come across. The main character, Yuna, has ended her days as a High Summoner and has become a sphere hunter--someone who searches for these spheres that hold holographic images and could possibly open the door to Spira's mysterious past. Her bubbly and cheerful cousin, Rikku, ventures along with her. As does a fellow sphere hunter, Paine, who has an unexplained past. The trio journeys through treacherous lands, defeats fiends and foes, and collects spheres while obtaining potions, valuable accessories, and dress spheres.

The basic gameplay is excellent and simple to use. The loading time is faster than the speed of light and saving isn't that perpetual, but it comes up often enought--basically after every main event. The new part of the game, the dress spheres, is a fun way to battle your way through fiends. Mainly, it's like taking a different job position (ex. gunner, warrior, songstress, black mage, etc.) while changing outfits.

What I loved most about the game is that they're giving girls a chance to be the hero. The theme song, "Real Emotion" (I used an excerpt for the title) is a break-through for video game themes. The Japanese version is just as good. Literally, the game could have hit Imax Theaters--it was that good. The graphics are ten times what every other game is, and the voice acting is something I haven't heard in a while! Even if you think the game is too girly for you, don't think of the game as a "maybe" or a "what if...?". I can assure you, this game is the heart of Final Fantasy.

I also recommend "Final Fantasy X", "Sly Cooper", "Crash Bandicoot Series", "The Simpsons Hit and Run", "The Simpsons Road Rage", "Burnout 2", and "The Sims Bustin' Out".

Remember when Disney switched over to making sequels to every movie they ever created? Think of how awful the sequels are, multiply it by 100 and you have the travesty of Final Fantasy that is Final Fantasy X-2.

Squaresoft (SquareEnix) is getting a little soft nowadays.

FFX-2 is nothing but fan service all the way through. The scantily clad main characters and poor dubbing killed the Final Fantasy series for me.

I do not recommend this game for anyone who holds out hope for the revival of the good old Final Fantasy games.

This game is pure fan service. If you want to see Rikku wearing virtually nothing and dress up Yuna like a prostitute, FFX-2 is for you. They went so far as to put one point in the game where you, as Yuna, had to give another woman a massage. Blatant fan service for the fanboys preferring some girl on girl action.

Do not get this game if you are expecting a serious, well, Final Fantasy RPG. FFX-2 took everything that was good about the Final Fantasy series, killed it then devastated the corpse. The game goes from serious to joking so quickly it's shameful. The entire game, from beginning to end, is one big corny joke.

It's a travesty of all that is good, holy and Final Fantasy.
