A Disgrace to the Entire Final Fantasy Genre

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 7 / 15

This is, without a doubt, the worst game I have ever experienced in all of my existence. It exists only for sex appeal. The graphics, I will admit, are beautiful, but that is the only good thing I can say about this pathetic excuse for a game. The whole dressphere system is laughable, as the credibility of the three main characters as heroes. I don't know if they were trying to appeal to young fashion-minded girls or what, but come on! They get to change....CLOTHES? How incredibly disappointing and stupid is that? Yuna is a pain to control because she is a naive pushover, and she also swings her arms and legs exessively when she runs. PLEASE DON'T PLAY THIS GAME. When I was debating on buying it, I kept hearing all these wonderful things about the new "real-time" battle system. All that means is that the enemy will not wait for you to take turns before attacking you, and you have a very hard time keeping track of who you're controlling, who is attacking you, and where everyone is. It all moves so fast, that you have NO time to decide what you want to do. So there is no strategy involved in the battles anymore, because you don't have time! Ridiculous. I almost turned this game off during the intro, because the mere thought of beginning a Final Fantasy game with Yuna singing onstage as a pop tart was devastating. This game has no dignity, mystery, interest, or grace. I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. IT IS AWFUL AND WILL CAUSE YOUR IQ TO DROP LIKE AN ANVIL.

Worst FF game ever produced

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 6 / 12

1. Story - about an hour of actual real story. The other 20 hours you will play the game are side events or distractions from the story that have little relevence. Basically fluff.

2. Bad Sequel - nothing new, they reused FFX in order to save money. The game (albeit a few changes to how things work) is like playing through FFX again with different characters and a story that sucks. Very linear Chapter 1 -> Chapter 2 -> Chapter 3 -> and so on. They should have gone with FF2 / FF3 / FF7 / FF9 something with a world map that could be dynamic and nonlinear in terms of events. Plus a world map and different modes of transportation just add a lot to the game.

3. Characters - Beyond goofy. The way they act, the things they say are just utterly stupid. The game was designed for children in my opinion. I do not just refer to playable characters.

4. Dress sphere - I prefer a more traditional way of gaining abilities and whatnot. Characters are endowed with abilites and they hone in on those and specialize. This was just another way (in my opinion) of saving money but creating less playable characters and having to develop those.

All in all the worst FF ever made and a shame to the series.

The first true sequal to any Final Fantasy game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4

After watching the heart-wrenching ending to FFX, I thought 'That was really good, but I wanna find out what happens next!' About a year later I read a rumor of a sequal to FFX on a website. I didn't pay much attention to it, as I've seen rumors of sequals for other FF games that never happened. A little later, I went on another website that had a picture of Yuna in hotpants with two guns in her hands with the words 'Final Fantasy X-2' above her. There's a sequal to one of my favorite video games.

The first hint of a sequal to FFX was in the ending to FFX International (made after the US version of FFX in Japan, the same game but with a few new minigames). The ending showed Yuna, Wakka, and Rikku watching a sphere that Kimahri found. It's of Tidus in some sort of prison crying out to see Yuna. Yuna and Rikku decide to go to the mountains to ask Kimahri more about it. Rikku got Yuna some new clothes to go 'undercover' because everyone knows her, hence the hotpants.

I have very high hopes for this game. I've played a very short demo of it (in Japanese) and I'm very impressed! The graphics are still beautiful and the music is still breathtaking. However, the overall mood of the game will be quite a bit different than the traditional FF games you're used to. When you're on the airship you'll hear a disco-like song! Plus, you don't have to follow the storyline (non-linear). Right from the start of the game you can go anywhere you want! You can follow the story right away or do the entertaining minigames instead.

The battle system is also new, but I enjoy it a lot more than the previous one. This one is a lot more fast and exciting. In addition to the improved system, you also get job choices for each character. In other words, any character can have any job! When you change your job, you'll see a sort of 'transformation' between them, which is a Sailormoonish change of clothes. It's fun to watch!

This FF game is a lot funnier than the previous ones, and I think it was intended to be that way. You'll find yourself laughing at what Yuna and company end up doing next, which is a nice break from the other, more serious FF games. Even though it has humor, it can get pretty serious when it has to be, but it's overall pretty light-hearted. Also, expect lots of fanservice, as the main characters are three girls wearing clothes revealing quite a bit of skin.

I can't really say much more about this game, as the demo I played wasn't very long. However, from what I did see, I loved and will definatly buy this game when it comes out. Anyone who loves Final Fantasy, RPGs, or fun games should check this game out. You won't be dissapointed!

FF-X2 The Real Story

FF-X2. The problems had nothing to do with characters, plot, expections, etc. The problem is they made it a pain in the ass to get 100% completion, so much so, that its not so hard as to get 100% but not worth it. You have to do certain lameass things like check your video cameras at very specific times and watch many things go on to get 100%. The storyline has to be replayed to get more stuff, a total flaw, because it wasn't that spectacular in the first place.(see Champions of Norrath PS2). The only good thing about this game is you get to be back in the FFX world even if it is only a bastardization of the real thing akin to the Starwars Prequels.

Final Fantasy X-2: Square is Surprising.

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 4

As Final Fantasy X came to a close, many fans asked the same question: "What happened to Tidus?" The question was answered in Square's sequel, Final Fantasy X-2.

The game begins with Yuna, the soft-spoken, shy, heroine of Final Fantasy X. Instead of being the summoner who strives for the protection of her people, Yuna has become a confident, gun-toting Sphere Hunter. Although her physical appearance has changed, Yuna's overall character has not. She is still kind hearted and willing to help those in need, a reoccuring trait throughout the game.

Yuna is a member of the Gullwings, a group of Sphere Hunters who compete to collect spheres across Spira in an attempt to make more money and uncover the secrets of their world. In the midst of the Eternal Calm, Yuna's friend, Kimahri, finds a sphere featuring a man very similar to Tidus. Determined to find her lost love, Yuna sets out to find out more about this mysterious sphere.

Rikku, the young bubbly Al Bhed girl from Final Fantasy X returns as well, also featuring a completely different appearance. Joining the two familiar girls is Paine, a new character to the series. Despite her rough exterior, Paine proves to be kind as well, though the emotion rarely manifests itself.

Although many hailed Final Fantasy X-2 as a successful sequel, I beg to differ. FFX2 strayed far from the series and lacked the story brimming with emotion, drama, and action that Final Fantasy fans have come to know and love. Although the game is visual eye candy, it lacked certain elements that made it's prequel a hit. Most of the area's tranquil, breezy tunes were replaced by generic techno, robbing the area of its original feel. The Thunder Plains, for instance, used to give you a sense of excitement as you traveled over the barren, dusty plains. Now, you feel bored as you walk through the dark wasteland. The victory theme, which has been featured in many Final Fantasy titles, was replaced by a short, dull beat. Zanarkand, the sacred grounds, have become a tourist attraction, courtesy of the Al Bhed man named Cid.

All in all, FFX2 was still a wonderful game, and fans of FFX should enjoy it. Despite its flaws, I enjoyed it as well, but missed the familiar elements from FFX.

Different From FFX

Let me begin by saying that this game is very different from FFX. Do not expect an epic story here. And the battle system is drastically different. All three of the main characters are females. The story takes place in Spira. Yuna, Rikky, and a new character, Paine are Sphere Hunters. They travel all over the continenct searching for these artifacts. The story is very lightweight and definitely not engaging. However, the game is not a bad RPG. If you simply just want to pass the time and play an RPG, then this game will do. Just do not expect it to be anywhere near as good as FFX. In my view, there are many other superior RPGs out there that should be first on your list.

Weak story, but plenty of things to do

The original FFX had a story with many elements of maturity and many elements of immaturity. Story-wise, FFX-2 actually elected to discard all of the elements of maturity while keeping all of the elements of immaturity. Paine's character is PAINEfully underdeveloped, for which there is no excuse in a 128-bit game with only three playable characters. This game is the only one in the series with poor music, which is campy and repetitive, with the exception of the two vocal J-POP songs, which are decent. The animation of the 3-D models is also noticeably uninspired in this game, with many NPCs engaging in unrealistic and irritating animation loops.

Despite having a weak story and poor music, this is still a good game, and probably the best in the series in terms of diversity of play. Less time is spent battling in this game than any other in the FF series, and more of that time is spent playing mini-games. Rather than having field screens be bland paths seperating towns, there are many things in each environment to interact with. 'Hanging out,' in the world of FFX-2 is fun at times, but the poor overall presentation of the game keeps the player from wanting to do too much of it. Although FFX-2's battle system is slightly worse than FFX's overall, the battles in FFX-2 can be fun, with the combination of FFX's battle camera and ATB. Re-working ATB to consider the position of enemies, and giving the characters the ability to delay enemy attacks by hitting them at the right time, was a good idea, but the variety of mechanically-unique battle scenarios in the game wasn't sufficient to encourage players to actually formulate tactics around this mechanic.

I have been saved!

I was two days away from buying this game because, well, it's a Final Fantasy game, AND a sequel to FFX, which rocked. Thank God I played it at my friends house first, because I have been spared the waste of some hard-earned cash.

First off, OK obviously the graphics are great, since this is after FFX and does not regress. Not really an improvement, though. Gameplay has a good side and bad side. I think the dress spheres is a really cool idea that Square can expand on in future games. My only gripe is that you have to keep switching your outfit during battle to do certain things. It would be better I think if you used AP to "master" the abilities while you're wearing the outfit, and then you can use them anytime, like in FFTA. My major problem with the gameplay in this is that THERE ARE ONLY THREE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS!! Long gone is that cool system from FFX that let you switch members from your 7-person party in and out of the battle to do certain things.

Lastly, the plot is just sad. That's all. Just SAD. Want a summary? Here we go: Yuna wants to find Tidus by finding about fifty million dress spheres and beating the crap out of some lame group of "bad guys". The gameplay is extremely non-linear. I liked the feel of FFX like you were playing a movie, but this is way too loose for my taste. Die-hard Final Fantasy fans probably won't mind, but I do.

OK one good thing is the characters are pretty cool. I think of Paine as a replacement for Lulu, and she fits into the role nicely. Yuna and Rikku are also improved in my opinion. Still, I miss Auron. He was without question the coolest character of FFX.
That's it. Buy this for people who can't live without every FF game, not for those looking for a suitable follow-up to the glory that was FFX.

PS-What's with Yuna and GUNS? Did I miss something between X and X2? Serious case of OOC if you ask me. Not complaining though.

It hurt to play this.

Wow. What to say. When I heard FFX was going to have a sequel I was excited... till it came out. FFX-2 consists of the player (who plays as Yuna) running around Spira with Riku and Paine 2 years after the events of FFX. The new costumes of the trio are skimpy (Yuna with her hot pants and Riku managing to fit into an even smaller outfit than what she had in FFX). The music is a weird 70's-marching band-techno which gets very annoying, and I don't even remember the plot because it lacked in having one. They managed to sneek in some scary pop-princess moments, with Yuna singing two pop-tacular songs in the game, and a lot of annoying "Alright!" "We did it!" *jump and high-five* kind of dialouge. The characters where plain and none really stood out like in past FF games.

If you have any respect for FFX, don't play this game. Yet if you want to play it, rent it before wasting more money.

The Worst RPG in the Final Fantasy Series

This game is horrible. It's a disgrace to the Final Fantasy series. I bought this game believing that it would be better then FFX (Which I though was ok). I was so wrong. There are only 3 playable characters, Yuna, Rikku and Paine (All of them are annoying!). Yuna has gone from a quiet and shy summoner, to a loud mouth, bimbo gunner! Rikku is even more annoying (believe it or not) and Paine is supposed to be tough girl who does not like to talk about her tragic past (Yeah right... More like a poser with bad puns and no personality.). The music is so bad that I played the game on mute while I listened to the radio 99.9% of the time (I usually love music from the FF series). The game is also very short and the plotline could have been better if there was more of it. Most of the game's story comes from the side-quests (which are dumb and pointless) Basically you wonder around Spira looking for treasure spears and reminiscing about the past (If you haven't played FFX you will be totally confused.) The entire game feels like a Charlie's Angels movie and even the last boss fight doesn't really feel like a boss fight at all.

Pros:

Graphics: The graphics are top notch. No complaints here 10/10
Battle System: The dressphere system is cool. 9/10
Story: The MAIN story was very interesting, but was swallowed up by too many side stories. 6.5/10

Cons:

Music: What can I say? It sucked.
Character: All I have to say is "what the hell?"
Mini Games: The mini games are more annoying than fun.
Mood: The game is not serious enough.
Puns: Bad, bad, bad puns and stupid dialog.

The only good things about FFX-2 are the graphics, battle System, and main story. The whole Shuyin, Leen and Vegnagun thing should have been properly developed. The graphics are some of the best for the PS2. The dressphere system was cool. This way you could choose what type class you character will be.

So... If you're a die hard fan of the FF series then you might want to buy this just to add it to your collection (however, die hard fans may be offended by this god awful disgrace of a FF game), but if you're just looking for a good RPG, then go play something else. If you are new to the RPG genre try FF10, Grandia 2, or Shadow Hearts.
