when i heard about this game coming out i was pretty excited because i'm a pretty big fan of the nfs series. but it's a good thing that i rented it first. there are a few areas in which they could of improved it. first of all in the career mode you can't choose your car. it is predetermined by the computer which car you'll use. so all my work to unlock the 360 modena was in vain cause i could only use it in the arcade mode. another thing is that the cars can't be upgraded like they could in the past installments of the series. but one of the plus sides to the game is that it has the best cars for any ps2 game. another plus side is that you can choose which event you want to do next. Even though this is probably the best arcade racer for ps2 there is still a lot of room for improvement.

THE ULTIMATE DRIVING GAME ON THE MARKET!!!!

This games is the most fun game ive ever played, its fast moving, pretty easy and has some GREAT features, Matrix like special effects you can make happen whenever you want just by the hit of a button and there is also some great rockin music, not just lame top 10 hits of 1998 or some lame techno, but great songs by bands like Rush and Hot Action Cop, just to mention a few. By far the best, most unique racing game ive ever played, it is just plain, FUN.

One of the better racing titles out there

This is a fun racing game to play. I have both the PC and PS2 versions, i prefer to play the PS2 version. There are a few differences between them, but not much; I think the PS2 version is easier to play. The graphics are great, the gameplay is good, the tracks are beautiful with as much variety as you can get when using only 5 different base maps. Those are a Northwest-style forest, a Hawaiian-style tropical island (with urban and rural areas), a Mediterranean-style map with ruins and great jumps, an Appalaichian-style hilly map and a Southwest-style desert map (with an airbase on one track!) Each map has between 2 and 3 different circuit routes, not including reverse circuits and point-to-point tracks (linear track, not circuit).

Most importantly, the cars. There is a distinct pecking order, each car has its own feel and style and you'll eventually find out what cars are in the same class. Don't try to beat your Mclaren F1 friend when you're driving an Opel Speedster, for example :D The computer opponents have their pecking order as well, with some of them being the drivers to beat and others being just road kill. This edition of NFS has the best gallery of cars ever in the series in my opinion, with the most choices and the best choices. NFS 2 was the supercar edition with wheels most of us can only dream of seeing in real life, and I was pleased that EA brought back the Mclaren F1 from that game. Too bad they couldn't bring back the Ford GT90 as well...but you have most everything else from the Lotus Elise and BMW Z8s and M5s to the Mclaren, Murcieuelago, Viper, and other high-end vehicles, about 20 in total plus the NFS editions. No Japanese cars though, now that I think about it...You have to earn the cars though, you can't just hop into your Diablo as if you're entitled. While various cars are available in the championship modes for each race depending on the rules, you have to either complete events or earn points to unlock various cars (49 total) for regular driving. In other words, if you just got the game and want to race your friend, you'll have only about 8 or 9 cars availale to you, and the highest end car would be something like an Aston-Martin Vanquish V12. Go earn your wheels.

And finally, what really makes this game fun: the cops. Unlike the first hot pursuit, the cops aren't out to get you just because you're driving. In that game, i'd drive by them at 20 miles an hour and they'd come after me anyway. In this game, it's theoretically possible to slow down whenever your radar beeps and the cops won't come after you...but what would the fun be in that? They start off slowly enough, just trying to bump you and get you to stop, but when you get 3 stars or higher then the brass comes out and the gloves come off. Expect road blocks and spike strips and the worst of all, the helicopter. That lady in the chopper will drop explosive barrels, barrels that become spike strips, and will also shoot missiles at you. Do you have what it takes to outrun them AND your opponents?

Now for the negatives which got this game 4 stars and not 5 from me. While the music selection is good and catchy, it gets repetetive after a while. Can't be avoided, but must be mentioned. Also, while the cops do go after your opponents when driving, the heavy equipment (roadblocks, spikes, chopper) seem to be aimed at you rather than them. All these will affect your opponents if they're around you when the cops pull them out, but the cops never pull it out for them. Plus, at times it seems that the computer opponent has access to some speed boost that you don't. I can't complain much about not being able to drive off road much when each track has some form of short (or long) cut, but I wish I could drive around a bit more :D Also, when in replay mode, you have a limited number of camera views, and there is no reset button if you have a major wipeout when driving, you gotta get yourself back on the road. Finally, maybe just one more base-map for a few circuits :D maybe something like Aquatica from NFS 3.

In closing, I whole-heartedly recommend getting this game, especially as it seems to be going for under $15 at this point in time. This game will be one of the classics for PS2 and you won't be sorry to own it.

Need For Speed FUN!

Okay fellas listen, If you want a realistic do not buy this game But if you think it is perfectly normal that a ford mustang R can catch a ferrari 360 or a Lamborghini police car can catch a Mclaren F1 LM car then this game is perfect for you..That's if you dont know about car stats. Also i personaly find it kind of dumb that the only cars with boost are the police car's, Which is the only reason these cars can catch high end cars such as the ones listed above. Again let's look at the reality aspect of this. You cant even buy Boost in this game which means that again this game is not realistic, I guess if i was 13 and just learning about cars this would be a great game but sadly thats to late. Go with a more realistic game such as NFSU Or NFSU2 Or NFSMW. Do not waist your time And no before you go looking i can tell you personaly there is not Codes or cheats to fix these problems because i have look all over for them. I hope this has helped

NFS:2 is one of the most fun driving/racing games to hit PS2 in years. Sure Grand Turismo set the mark several years back... but NFS:2 is blood pumping, arcade style, simplistic, brainless FUN. Incredible graphics with amazing reflections and lighting effects (the sun does get in your eyes). Cops trying to bust you for speeding and wreckless driving with road blocks, spike strips and helicopters dropping exploding barrels. 49 different cars (if the Porsche is available in the early stages GRAB IT). 24 different tracks. All kinds of weather conditions. Semi-realistic crashes with real damage to your cars. Several different challenge modes with the best being "You're The Cop". Cool replays with perfect camera angles. Slow motion 360 degree shots of your car plowing thru police road blocks. Jump cams. Simple controls... anyone can play. Great music & sound effects. Not one thing wrong with this game!

THE BEST OF THE BEST !!!!

This game is like the best game in the world. I mean like it is so exciting for example you can play as the cop, you can pick any car you want like a lamborgini, mercades, mustang , dodge and many more. You have to pay atention to the cops so you now what side is the spike strip on.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Rated: Teen

Rev upyou engine with Need For Speed: HP2

This is a very good videogame if you are a diehard fan of the illegal street-racing genre. It has very impressive graphics, sound, and control. This game will not only appeal to gamers of this genre but to car lovers as well.

This is a very solid videogame, its' two main modes: Hot Pursuit and Championship are not very in depth meaning it doesn't have much of a storyline, basically all that you do is race and win cars. Now, lets talk about the control and handling. This game has pretty good control because the games developers are one of the best companies for car simulation games and the handling is simply amazing, really nice, and beautiful exotic locations are a blast to race through at blistering speeds. Everything from the flowing leaves of palm trees in the coastal island races or the swarms of red and orange leaves at the fall winds raceway.

This game's sound is also amazing. Cops cry for backup, tires are squealing, just the sound alone on this game could keep you on end. The developers at EA Games have really outdone themselves.

The wide variety of cars to choose from in this game is really impressive. There are Ferrari's, Porsche's, Lamborghini's and even the elusive McLaren F1 LM.
This game has well over 40 cars and 18 different breath taking, lush environments.

If you love street racing games and just love exotic cars then "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is a title that I would highly recommend to anyone. If you like what you read about this game then race to go pick up this game!
