Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 excels on many levels. Its "free run" style has always been a welcome addition to the racing genre, not to mention the licensed sports cars that we all can only dream of owning. This new offering is deep with gameplay and hard-nosed driving.

Controls:
Easy PS2 layout with an almost non-existant learning curve.

Controls II:
The cars handle the way they would in real life, as much as possible on a video game. If you hold the "pedal-to-the-metal" approach, you're going to lose races. There is a setting for an easier control, but that defeats the purpose of the game. My advice is to learn in some practive races before you start any of the championship modes.

Gameplay:
The police are relentless this time around with an upgraded AI. Lots of times they lull you into a false sense of security by backing off the chase and you'll run into a roadblock, spike strip or the cool helicopter that drops barrels of explosives on the road.

Championship modes, including Hot Pursuit and World Championship are 30 races long with each getting tougher. To unlock certain tracks and to progress, there is no win by "the-skin-of-your-teeth." Which means you may win a race that way, but you must do just that, win. In many of the races there is objectives to complete to unlock cars, tracks, and other goodies.

Visuals:
The game is full of eye candy. Explosions, a warp ahead feature to let you see down the track, a slo-motion cam feature, replays, and FMV jump sequences which earn you points. The cars, tracks, and landscapes are gorgeous and if you're not careful, the beauty of the surroundings can cause a slip-up. You can cross through mountains, find a variety of short-cuts, get los in fog and smoke, or crash into a firetruck. Everything lifelike is placed into the game and fused with the gameplay.

Overall:
All in all, this is the best and most ambitious Need for Speed title ever created. it leaves the pack of racing games in the dust with pure adrenaline. Get yourself into the game and relax...this is a joyride, no? Watch out for traffic for Sunday drivers come in swarms and can cause an opponent to slip by at the last, pivitol moment.

When I got Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on 10/11/02 I thought wow this game will be the bomb! And it was!

It has the best graphics in the world!
The cops are very dangerous and drive as badly as you do! They send helicopters that drop bombs on you, fire missiles at you, and drop mini spike strips in front of you! The cops also set up roadblocks and spike strips to keep you from breaking the law.
The damage is realistic, but your car doesn't get all bashed up if you run into a tree at 221 miles per hour!
There is a lot of traffic, so you'd better watch out!
I have beaten the game a long time ago, so I know the cars are:
The McLaren F1, F1 LM, Ferrari F50, 550 Barchetta Pininfarina, 360 Spider, Lamborghini Murcielago, Diablo, the new 911 Turbo, the concept Carrera Gt, Mercedes-Benz Clk-Gtr, Cl 55 Amg, Ford TS50, Mustang, Lotus Elise, Opel Speedster, Vauxhall VX220, BMW M5, Z8, Holden HSV Gts, Jaguar XKR, Aston Martin Vanquish, Chevrolet Corvette, and the Dodge Viper!
Need for Speed addition cars have special colors and improve performance:
NFS Vanquish, NFS Elise, NFS Cl 55, NFS Clk-Gtr, NFS Speedster, NFS VX220, NFS HSV, NFS XKR, Challenge NFS Ferrari 360 Modena, NFS F50, NFS 550, NFS Mustang, NFS TS50, NFS Viper, NFS Corvette, NFS Diablo, NFS Murcielago, NFS 911, NFS Carrera, NFS F1, and The NFS F1 LM!
These are the cars the police will have:
Pursuit Ford Crown Victoria, Pursuit Mustang, Pursuit M5, Pursuit Corvette, and a Pursuit Murcielago!
The ways you could win these are to win an event or get enough points!
To get points is to get air, run a roadblock, lead a lap, drive a clean lap (don't run into anything), accelerate to top speed, or beat the cops!
The fastest you could go is 240 M.P.H. with any one of the McLarens!
You must buy this game!

Best Racing Title on the Market

I don't prefer to play many racing games, until now! This NFS title is the best in the series, not to mention the best racing title created for a next-gen system! The graphics are great, the conrols aren't impossible, and the songs are well chosen by EA. Also, the cars are fabulous mean machines that feature top dogs such as the Lamborghini Diablo and Ferrari F50. A slew of other decent vehicles are at hand to drive, completing the racing experience. The courses are certainly gorgeous, and the only thing that's missing is inner-city tracks. However, that's not a big deal for this game and a factor that Midnight Club 2 provides. 2-Player modes are very fun, though not as fun as the hilarious party game Super Smash Bros. Melee. Above all, if you enjoy any sort of racing title for the PS2 or cool cars on cool courses, then you'll love this game!

this game is by far one of the best racers ever. i loved the first hot pursuit. i liked how you earned money to fix/upgrade your car after winning a race. this did not return for the second hot pursuit game, but they kept everything else good about the game. there are great graphics, especially if you played the computer version first. much better version on the ps2. the cars are great, and the cops are ruthless. while this game is very well made, they could have added more to it to make it more intertaining, like maybe more speech from the police, you know, commical stuff. you will get many hours of sheer joy playing this game. the gameplay itself is very good. you can plan to take a shortcut or other way to get around roadblocks and completely through the police off. the slowmotion on jumps and crashes are also very intertaining. in my opinion the ps2 has the two best racing games, this one and gran turismo 3.

Cheats.

Need for Speed 2 is awesome! It plays just like its PSone predecessor and it totally rocks! With new stages, better graphics and new cars you can't lose! Need for Speed 2 is a great buy for all gamers.

Like any racing game, you pick out a car (in this one there are some really nice ones like the new Dodge Viper, Benz and Corvette). You also get to pick their the color of your car which is also pretty cool. That and each car is truly different. Each one drives a certain way, has its own perks (better handling, better speed etc) and of course, the Cops get some new vehicles to keep up with you.

Also a new addition to the game is the Stop Action camera (like in Max Payne, also another great PS2 title). When you start to recieve heavy damage during a race, the camera srops action and puts the game into slow motion as you're getting hit. It's pretty cool. Also the boards a lot more challenging. You really have to be able to play the field and the opposition in this one.

Again, very cool game! It's great for all gamers and anyone that's into racing games will not be able to put this one down.

It's so fun!

NFS:HP2 is a really awsome game. It is, of course, a racing game with high adrenalin and excitment, where you can race alone or with others, with or without cops in many different tracks. Plus, you earn awsome cars along the way. Yes, it has it's cons,(replay cameras aren't very good, Be The Cop, where you can chase the speeders, could be better) but I still rate it a five. I don't know why anyone would not like this game.

Best Need For Speed Yet!

Do not rate games on their demos. Demos are not usually like the games and the graphics are not great. I wasn't surprised when I played the demo because the graphics were bad, but it was free and that was what you should expect. I think this game is the best need for speed yet. The graphics are great, it is not too easy and not too hard, and it is fun and entertaining. I bought this game when it first came out and I was impressed. If you like racing games this is for you.

It's about time NFS comes to PS2 especially for those like me who wait and crying for a good police chase. For those who never experienced any NFS game will certainly enjoy this, but for those who grew up with NFS in all it's glory, well for one, you probably have this game already, if you don't, then you either heard about it, or need to hear about it. The game is stil exremely fun and even more graphically and physically amazing than prior NFS games, but it does have it's down sides. One, well, personally i miss the weather options. The snow, the rain, it's not in this game for PS2. Instead you have the option of driving during the day, during sunset, or cloudy skies. Damage only effects the way your car looks, not the way it drives. Granted the graphics on the damage are sweet, from a busted steaming radiator, heavey smoke coming out the back, and busted out windows, the car still drives as though nothing happened to it. The cops are the same no matter what track you take. Unlike the 1st Hot Pursuit and High Stakes where certain tracks had there own cops with suitible languages or accents, paint jobs, and sirens. They're all the typical black and whites and even though you maybe driving in the mediterranean, the cops still are American. Cops are alot tougher. They have more dialog, and they'll pursue not only you, but also the other cars racing you. If you never get pulled over, then the majority of the cops will focus on you. Depending on how long your race is and you still don't get pulled over, the cops will actually call off pursuit and you earn points for it. As I mentioned, graphics are extremly breathtaking. Even though Sony still refuses to give us the inside the car driving view, you can still see the very pin point details of every different car's interrior. Although i'll let you in on a secret, one event actually does have a driver's view inside a 360 Spider. The physics they put into this project are amazingly realistic. Even though you're not driving through rain, there's still puddles here and there and the water sprays from your tires the way it should. Plus you'll notice they finally put in working windshild wipers. Makes me miss the weather conditions even more. There's more to do on the tracks than any preceeding racing game ever made. From multiple routes to choose from, to high flying jumps, and down to specific conditions for a track such as the brush fire and dust storm making visibility 0 till you get through it. There's a downside to the variaty of tracks though. You've got different lengths of 4 types of tracks to choose from. A Country side/ Alpine, Meditterrainian, Desert, and a Tropical Island/city. The scenary is beautiful, but i later felt the Need For Speed really had a need for more locations. On the plus side, point-to-point tracks are back instead of just all circuit tracks that sort of stuck with NFS since NFS 2. Although, i miss the XJ220 from that game. I always get my hopes up that it will be in the next NFS. Speeking of car selection, most cars from previous NFS games are making repeat performances, while others are brand spanking new. I kinda hoped Camero and the Tans AM would be back, but no, they were forgotten along with the XJ220. They could have put an even BIGGER variety of cars to choose from, but they wasted that game space on duplicates of their car selection with the exceptions of their improved performances and occasionally a better paint job. Trust me, if i was the producer of the game i would have dropped that idea and put in more cars. Although i like the crazy fact you can race in Police cars without actually playing as the cops, let alone run from the cops in their own cop cars. They claim to be in pursuit of a borrowed black and white, i'd like to think i stole it thank you very much. The above all thing, this is still the most fun racing game for PS2. That is, if your tired of being confined to track limitations and lazy cops that don't work hard enough to even try to be a challenge. Well worth it for those aspects.

Simple racing fun

Need for speed: Hot Pursuit 2 for the ps2 can be sumed up very easily. Its a fun and addicting racing game. There are 2 career modes. One has you just racing against other cars. The other involves not getting caught by the police. What really makes this game addicting is that you never feel like you're doing the samething over and over again. There are so many different types of races and challenges that each race is unique. Even the number of other drivers changes from race to race. 2 player mode (one person gets to be the cops) works great as well.
I have two criticisms (and they are very small). First, I found the menu a little confusing the first time I played. Second, I don't like the game saves your name in the record book (yes, I'm very petty).
It may not be the most realistic driving game, but it sure is a whole lot of fun.
