A classic.

Ratchet and Clank is incredibly well-done in every respect. The characters and concepts are hilarious, creative, and off-the wall. I did not realize that the PS2 could produce such amazing graphics. The game is challenging, but you always feel like you are making progress. I haven't been this impressed by an action-adventure game since Mario 64 seven years ago. Very entertaining.

The best video game for PS2

Presentation 10/10
NO LOAD TIMES EVER. Jak and Daxter had an initial 10 second load time when the game started but R&C never loads. The plot is well done and the cutscenes are great. The characters are interesting and you can see that a lot of care is given to the way they develop. I actually feel sorry for Qwark even though he is working for Drek.

Graphics 10/10
The best graphics I have seen in a ps2 game. The particle effects are beautiful, the framerate is a buttery 60 frames per second, the animation is wonderful and the draw distance is astounding. As good as this game looks I am glad to say that the graphics never interfere with the gameplay. I have been surrounded by swarms of enemies and have tossed bombs at them and shot them with the pyrociter without any drops in the framerate--despite all of the action(at some points this game has more action than halo and grand theft auto could handle). This game uses the same graphics engine that jak and daxter uses.

Sound 10/10

The voice acting is flawless and superb. Everyone sounds as you would expect and the voice acting is the best I've ever heard in any game. The voice acting is better than metal gear in my opinion. The music is good, but it can get stuck in your head.

Gameplay 10/10
What kind of game is this? Is it a platformer, an adventure, a puzzle game, a shooter, an rpg? This game seemlessly blends gameplay elements together from each of the genres I listed. The weapons and gadgets are great and so is the castlevaniaesque system of buying goods. The boss battles I have experience so far are the best on ps2 since Metal Gear Solid 2. The level design is superb. I never felt like I was wandering aimlessly around an empty environment.

Lasting Appeal NA
I haven't finished the game yet, but this game got really good around the time most other games end(12 hours in). I plan on getting every gadget and finding all of the secret items.

If I could only own one ps2 game it wouldn't be grand theft auto vice city--it would be ratchet and clank. I may seem overzealous giving this game straight tens but I think it is the best video game for ps2.

One word...FUN!

OK, wait. Actually two words...FUN and ADDICTIVE! I am an adult gamer who's been playing video games for years, and some of my current favorites are the "Resident Evil" series, Fatal Frame, the "Medal of Honor" series, Silent Hill 1 & 2, GTA3 & GTA-VC as well as other "adult" themed games. I'm not too much into cutsie cartoony mascot style characters in my games. With that said, I was given "Ratchet and Clank" for Christmas completely by mistake (due to a wrapping error), and I couldn't be happier. This game has everything you could ask for in an action/adventure, but the key word here is adventure, and LOTS of it. Countless weapons, countless enemies, countless missions, countless characters to interact with, and above all, IT'S FUN & I HAVE NOT HAD THE URGE TO THROW MY COTROLLER ONCE WHILE PLAYING THIS GAME! If you're like me, the "try - die - repeat" can wear a bit thin, but rest assured...this game is a whole different ballgame. It is a MUST buy and I can't wait for a sequel. I own all three gaming systems and this is definately one of the best games I've ever played. I just hope my little neice enjoys my copy of "Resident Evil Zero" she mistakenly got for Christmas because I'm not givin' this one up.

The New Platform Standard!

I bought this the day it came out after months of anticipation and all I can say is WOW! Don't hesitate, just go buy it. The graphics, gameplay, camera controls, weapons, and storyline are simply unflawed in every way. This game blows Jak and Daxter away(which I only mention because most think it was the best). Personally, I prefer Rayman, Maximo, or Sly Cooper any day over Jak. Sorry but running around just to find things while beating enemies that are way to easy is no fun. I play all the platformers and this is going to redefine game play. It's challenging and inspiring. How were they able to release what will be the game of the year...?

yikes! pleseant surprise

THIS is what I call a platformer. Picked this game up yesterday, this is what a next generation platformer should play like, it even makes MarioSunshine look weak by comparison in my view.
Every level so far has had something completely different. You'll find yourself doing something different all the time.
It's also not a short game, easily more than 20 hours of playtime your first time thru. Every planet I have been to so far has been larger than the one before. They are also getting more difficult in that I am much more likely to get bopped than in the first few levels. It's not too easy, and it's not too hard - just perfect. I'm also very surprised at the quality of the music. I can't remember which, but one of the planets has a techno track playing and there's a guy at one point that's yelling something. I thought it was cool because game music generally doesn't have anyone singing in it (unless it's intro/outro stuff, if your name happens to be GTA3/GTA: VC, or a few other games. Not ot mention the voice acting is superb and the dialogue is hilarious! And unlike SMS, R&C has an intelligent camera, you can control it, however if your jumping off walls to get up on to another area, it inteligently moves to a easily viewable location and does not magically change angles and tick you off as SMS does.

Not to mention Ratchet and Clank completly owns MarioSunshine in the respects of

-Graphics
-Sound
-Animation
-Control
-Camera
-Presentation
-Story/Cutscenes

So, while mario may have a little bit better overall jumping experience, R and C is an overall much better game. And certainly isn't as 'gimicky' as SMS. I like the direction the R and C is taking the platform genre and am in highhopes for a sequal. It's nice to have so many different varitey in worlds, weapons and objectives. You even get to play as a different character rather than just one all the time. Just surprised ho much more FUN I'm having with R and C compared to when I played Mario. Keep in mind I am Nintendo fan, and I still have a place in my heart for Mario, but Ratchet and Clank has set the bar so high. I still find it strange when I say R and C is better then SMS. But it's the real deal folks. If you enjoy platformers, you NEED to check this one out.

Definitely the best platformer for the PS2

Ratchet and Clank is hands down a great game. It looks great, sounds great and you'll enjoy every second playing it. The controls are precise and even the voice acting is good. The range of gadgets and weapons you can accumulate are huge. The Morpho-Ray has got to be the best weapon ever created for a video game.

It does suffer a little from the typical camera angle difficulties that plague every platformer. Luckily the developers have made it easily correctable with a press of the L1 button or a swivel of the analog stick, so it really doesn't detract from the gameplay.

Best thing for me is that I can play it with my six year old, which can't be said for some of my other PS2 games, i.e. GTA3, GTA:VC and MGS 2.

This is one game that truly warrants a five star rating.

Ratchet and Clank should be in every PS2 game library.

Friggin fun kiddo!

Can you say Jak and Daxter? This game feels quite a bit similar, and for good reason. Ratchet and Clank borrows the same graphic engine. Ratchet and Clank controls seem a little less refined, and the camera angles are annoying at times, but otherwise, the two games are definitely twins separated at birth.

On its own, Ratchet and Clank is a stellar example of the platform game. It has a very consistent fun personality, mostly due to the quirky sense of humor. You get to explore worlds, find cash, and collect an arsenal of deadly and not so deadly weapons.

What really makes this game stand out is the extras. Of the thirty or so collected items, you could easily make it through the game with just five. The rest are there just for giggles. Go postal with a blaster or connect with the inner flower child with a chicken morph-o-ray.

The extras go on with great cut-scenes, unique stunts and characters, and terrific fun-loving scenes of mass destruction that only a 100 foot robot could create. If you thought of it, well, so did these game designers.

You can't go wrong with this one.

Interesting............But Cool

One day I was looking on my local game store shelf and I came across Ratchet and Clank. I decided to try it out, and I found out it was awesome! You are a furry little creature named Ratchet who finds this small robot, Clank. They then find out this evil man named Drek has this polluted, overcrowded planet, so he decides to make a new one using parts of the best planets in the galaxy. Obviously, this is bad, so they go on various adventures to stop Drek and his minions. This is a platform/action/adventure game, and I usually hate platforms, but I loved this one, so please get it. Oh, along the way you fight against enemies, and when you kill them, bolts, or the galactic money, falls out of their pockets and if you get enough of them you can buy new cool gadgets and weapons to use. There is also lots of humor in the videos in the game! I love it! For concerned parents, this is rated "T" for mild violence, which is because of the guns. No blood, gore, language, etc. Please get this if you enjoy well, enjoyable games.

My FAVORITE Game!

Alright, first off, I know this game is rated teen, but to parents out there, there is absolutely NOTHING bad in this game. Yes the characters do use guns, but they are like the kind on Looney Tunes. The story is the basic "Oh no! (Insert Bad Guy's name here) is going to destroy the galaxy!" but with a few twists. And it's not just one story line, they have you running allover the place. The levels are large, with many places to explore. Sometimes the missions can be confusing or hard, like oh.... Getting past huge guns, while trying to get to this little garage (in fact, the first time I got there it was because I died). You have about thirty weapons and gadgets, a personal favorite is the morph-o-ray (turns enemies into chickens!)
The graphics, though now a little older looking, were in it's day very top-notch, they still look very good. Levels are beautiful, but they fill them full of robots and aliens, so at times it can be annoying. You get to fly space ships, play as Giant Clank, and even get out and walk in space.
You see now why I like this game so much? Now you go to Target, and it's on PS2's greatest hits! It's really a no brainer, I highly recomend this hit!

on my top 5 fave games fool!!!

This is my 3rd fave game currently. Its just so much fun here is the good and bad.

Pros:
-Great animation and environments
-Funny scripts and characters
-Great weapons such as the R.Y.N.O.
-Huge replayability. You can go back and find "Gold Bolts" and "Skill Points" you may not have found earlier and you can revisit bosses, races, and jet fights.
-Really good gameplay! It has a really comfortable control system and seems oddly familiar

Cons:
-Gathering money takes really long to get new weapons especially the R.Y.N.O. which comes at a whopping 150,000 bolts!
-You cant revisit turrets
-Some enemies wont appear again after you beat the game
-Hard to figure out how to use cheats!

As you can see these are really silly cons. Who needs cheats anyways. Using cheats to beat the game sucks. Dont let any of the cons keep you from buying this game. [...] Go buy the game you [...]!Scurry!!! Git!!! Hurry!!! Now!!! Fetch!!!
