The new spiderman was awesome!!! I played it and I was blown away by the characters, graphics, and the action. This is a must buy. For $50 bucks you are getting your money's worth. This is the best game I have ever played besides Medal of Honor rising sun and frontline. I am a pickey player and this game dserves 10 stars but I unfortunatley I cannot give this game them due to the 5-star limit.

OK I just got the game today played with it about 7 hours total. All I can say is wow!
taking a bite of the Big Apple Spidy style and there are no load times in-between to
Slow down the feeling of swing from rooftop to rooftop. Even with the guide some of
The buildings take forever to find. Just like GTA VC you can spend hours just swing around town literally.Much better overall from the first one.

Awesome

Howdy, gamers. Spiderman 2 is much better than the first. I really hated Spiderman 1. The only thing I liked was level 1, because you could swing all around the city and fight bad dudes on rooftops. Spiderman 2 is a really, really big level 1. The graphics in this game are pretty good, but in most movies, people's mouths don't move. The main things you do in this game are: Missions(Go somewhere and then do something), and help people on the street. The street missions are: Stop purse robberies(beat up someone and take the purse back to the victim), Ambushes(talk to someone and several thugs surround you), Road rage(stop bad drivers by wrecking their cars), Balloon missions(get a little kids balloon and bring it back), Car jackers(wreck the stolen car then beat up the robber/s), Police case(wreck the car and beat up the bad guys), Shootouts(assist the police in stopping bad guys, and then there is usually a car chase), Armored car robberies(Beat-up the robbers then there is usually a car chase, when you are further in the game you have a helicopter chase instead), Guy falling from roof(climb the building, pick up the guy, put him safely on the ground), Take someone to hospital(pick up an injured person and bring them to the hospitol in time), Sinking boat(jump to the boat and bring the people back to dry land), Robots attacking people(beat up the robots, this one is later in the game), Store robberies(go to the store and beat up the robbers), Rooftop robberies(beat up the robbers), Gang battles(beat up the gangsters). This is what you do in the game, (I'm not making up the robot one). you can also try to collect tokens(Skyscraper tokens, Bouy tokens, Secret tokens, and Hidout tokens). It is also very fun to just jump from rooftop to roof top, or swing across the city, or complete chalenges(a race-like thing). The controls are awesome once you get used to them. This game is not for people who just got a PS2, or for super-hardcore gamers that want an extremely challenging game, or people who can't stang a game without perfect graphics, or for people that want a long game, or for people that just do what they have to to beat a game. If you don't fall under any of these catagories, buy this.

A different kind of review.

I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, having read the comics, loved both movies, and I even dug the cgi-cartoon that ran on MTV, but rather than talk about him, I want to touch on the fact that you get to explore and interact with New York City.
Living in Texas most of my life, I finally got to visit New York with my family in the late '90s, and I absolutely loved it. I did the tourist thing and walked all over Manhattan Island, went up the tallest buildings, strolled through Central Park, and even went to the Statue of Liberty. After having seen New York so many times in movies, cartoons and comics, it was a real treat to finally see it in person. Now this game may not be a perfect recreation of America's biggest city, but being able to swing to a place or building and have a family member remember it from one of our trips is really something, almost like taking a virtual tour.
After wondering what it would be like to explore my favorite city as my favorite hero, it's a big treat to finally do just that. If the Treyarch team keep improving like they have, the next game will be incredible, but for now this game is fun enough for me to keep, and hopefully for you as well.

Mediocre at best.

This game started out decently. I was very impressed by the freedom the game gives you and the size & detail of the map of NY. The combo moves and web swinging are fun, if a little hard to control. Sometimes you find yourself going the wrong direction without really knowing why. But overall, combing the streets, rescuing citizens and beating up muggers is pretty fun, if a bit repetetive. Another problem is the camera. While you can control the camera while still, it "corrects" itself if you move. If you climb or swing, the camera often points you in the opposite direction of where you were aiming which causes some difficulty.

Then the "boss levels" begin. Most of the chapters have an ending "boss level" where spider-man must complete some task or fight some fairly difficult bad guy. However, these levels are not based upon skill or very enjoyable. Its a matter of memorizing a pattern by getting killed over and over again.

The last fight with doc ock is terrible. You have almost no control over spider man. You get killed over and over. You have to shut off all these power switches but meanwhile bursts of plasma hit you repeatedly, this giant shield hits you (and there is no "spidey sense" warning to help you avoid this) and doc ock keeps walking up and pounding you. If he hits you once, he's pretty much going to pound you 4 or 5 times and you can't really do anything about it. Oh and to add insult to injury, if you fall in the water (which there is tons of) you die. Doc Ock is invincible this whole time. He can't get zapped by the power surges and punching him does nothing. I haven't yet beat the game so I'm assuming (praying really) that he'll die after you disconnect all the power switches or he'll be severely weakened.

I'm afraid all the boss levels are like this although the last one is by far the worst. I'm assuming the game designers were trying to make it "challenging" but its really just pure frustration. its all based completely on luck rather than skill. The entertainment value provided by swinging thru the city is negated by the frustration of the boss levels and the overall repetitiveness of the game.

Overall, a good effort but it fell short of the mark.

Best Spider-Man game to date. 4 and 1/2 stars

Spider-Man 2 has to be the best super hero video game to date. When I first read about the previews in Gamepro I told myself I'm going to have to get this. I don't buy many games when they first come out because of the $49.99 price. Most of the time I wait untill there released in The Greatest Hits line up for $19.99 because it really hurts the wallet. The one thing that really interested me the most about buying the game is the depth of it. You can explore the city, stop street crime, deliver pizza, save people, test your spider skills, and go on missions when your ready. For me the game feels like more of a bunch of comic book storylines then a movie. Which is very cool. Each chapter in the game seems like another issue of a Spider-Man comic. Plus there's quite a bit of charcters in the game. A bunch that are not in the movie. One of the best so far is fish bowel head himself, Mysterio. The game has a good storylime behind him. Plus you run into Rhino, Shocker, and of course the big villian for the movie Doc Ock. And you have some encounters with The Black Cat as Spidey tries to figure out if she's friend or foe. I haven't come close to beating the game yet. I'm around 20% completed. But it's alot of fun and annoying at times. I'm still learning on the fighting combos but have the web swinging almost under control. If you want a good super-hero game this one's worth checking out.

Everyone, as far as I'm concerned, should buy this game!

I would still buy it if the only thing you could do was swing through the city! I have heard people say, "Oh well, the whole, helping the people thing, gets boring after a while" My rebuttal to that is this: I have found that there are always variations, for instance, I thought the well for people mission variations was about done when suddenly, while fighting off the thugs from an armored car, instead of the being picked up by a getaway car, the remaining thugs are picked up by a helicopter.

That's just cool folks. The controls are remarkably easy to master, I have no major issues with them. The city detail could be higher, but it's such a minor flaw since, as people have said, you go by so fast while swining, that it doesn't matter. The moves that spidey can do are also awesome, hanging people from street lights and punching them up into the air are all great fun. And, by buying new combos and moves in the spidey store, your arsenal is quite impressive. Also, once you "beat" the game, ie, all of the main missions, there are still other things you can do. There are tokens to collect, they range from being on top of skyscrapers, in hidden spots, in hideouts and on buoys.

Another thing that I really like is the fact that you know what time it is at any given point. The map screen (found by pressin select) tells you what time it is in game. And, the night and day transition is incredible, night just sneaks up on you, as does day, but, if you look for it, you can see the sky light up with fiery red and orange colors for sunset and sunrise. Very cool.

And, if after all of those awesome qualitys, you don't want to buy it, then suit yourself, but all I'm saying is that you're missing out.

Spider-Man 2 Review for PS2

This game certainly exceedes the first. The graphics are great and the storyline just superb, even the way the extra comic book baddies come into it are written in so that its somewhat part of the film, whereas the first game brought them in to keep you occupied. The new attraction is obviously the new abilities to choose where you swing and how low or high you go. Once you get used to the configurations the game gets better as it seems life like swinging through the cities, in between skyscrapers and even between traffic. My favourite part has got to be when you overlook New York City sitting on top of the Statue of Libertey! I have never been to New York City but now i feel i dont have to! I would definately rate this game 5/5 for its efforts to impress even those who dont like super-hero games, Spider-Man 2 outshines all other top Super-hero titles and will be one of the best games this year without a doubt. So go out and BUY IT!! Peace

The BEST Spidey game yet

First off, I must say that this game was positively excellent. Though it had little replay value, I really enjoyed it while it lasted.

The Pros!

The web-slinging is AMAZING. For the first time you are given an entire island to websling around. The environment is practically endless and there is so much to explore. The random crime setup is nice, since they give you extra brownie points. But oh my goodness, there is nothing like diving off of a tall building and watching Spidey tear through the sky. And the rebound of the web slinging is positively perfect! The basic mechanics that are signature to Spiderman are here, and it makes for a fantastic time. Webslinging is by far the greatest aspect of this game.

The random crime system as mentioned before is also an interesting addition. If you ever played True Crime, the system is sort of like that. You'll hear somebody shouting for help and it is your choice whether or not you go to help them, much like the feds would prompt you in True Crime. If these random crime missions are completed successfully, you get extra points so that you can buy speed boosts and more moves.

The purchasing system! Now it's been a very long time since I've played the game, but I'm pretty sure that whenever you go into a library or coming book store you can spend your skill points on buying new moves and speed boosts. Some things are superficial, like air tricks when you release your web, and others are helpful like mid air strikes and web throws. Each attack has its own special purpose, and it is up to the player to deicde which one is best.

The Cons

Activision is not famous for its good graphics. The graphics in this game could have been executed on the PS1. They are really really bad. Unacceptable. I don't know how many copies of poeple I have seen crammed into one street, but it is ridiculous. The cars look like boxes covered in cheap paint. The graphics were just...bad.

Also, the game was very repetative. Luckily it was short though. But if you are the type of person that needs something new every mission, you won't finish this game. After a while it just dragged on...

But overall, the game was good. The 4 Stars were very well earned. The game Followed the orignal Spiderman 2 plot reasonably well with some additions to put more action sequences in the game. The gameplay is great while the nature of the game's progression is not. For the price, it is worth it.

This Game Is Great!

This game is great. Like any game, it has some good things & some bad things. Let's talk about the good things first. You can web-swing around almost all of the big apple. You can go almost anywhere in Manhatten. You can also go to the Statue of Liberty, Roosavelt Island, just about anywhere but Brooklyn and Bronx. You can get all kinds of sweet upgrades from the spidey store. You can even pick up bad guys and throw them around. Much better then the PC version. Now let's talk about the bad things. All the thugs and regular people look the same. They also say the same lines over and over, and play the same music over and over, so after a while you just wanna mute it. The bad guys keep commiting the same petty crimes over and over, and that gets kinda annoying. But sometimes I do like fighting muggers, 7 against 1. I like those odds. There is 1 part when you have to stop these guys from robbing a museum, and there's 15 thugs you have to fight your way through. Overall, the real strong point of this game is the web swinging. That's what really makes this game fun. This game gets a 4/5.
