A smart, fun, excellent game

Having finished my last mission as Homer Simpson last night in the seventh and final level of Hit and Run I feel free to post a review. In short, I cannot recommend this game highly enough. I bought it for my eight-year-old, but became as obsessed with the game as she did. Other reviewers will have told you the basics: In each of the seven levels of the game you play as one of the Simpsons characters (Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, Apu, Bart, Homer). In each level there are a number of missions to complete. You race around a superb three-dimensional recreation of Springfield in any of a number of cars, finding lost objects, racing others to a specified location, or--most fun of all--trying to destroy another vehicle before it reaches its destination. At the same time you are meant to explore Springfield (there are two or three different parts of town that you explore in different levels of the game) while finding coins and collectors cards and destroying hovering wasps equipped with cameras and fire power. The game's storyline--you need to foil an alien plot being hatched against Springfield--is a good one, the jokes as clever as you'd expect from the geniuses behind the Simpsons. I'll not wreck the surprise, but in the final level of the game the familiar streets of Springfield take on a quite different look.

As an aside, I should say that this game was not only fun for my eight-year-old and myself, but also for my two-year-old. She prefers it to the age-appropriate PlayStation games I've bought for her (Cat in the Hat; Dora the Explorer; Winnie the Pooh). She actually finds it very easy to manipulate the controls. While she can't perform the missions, she is able to go to phone booths and switch her cars, to enter buildings and hop onto roofs, and she enjoys wandering around Springfield kicking innocent pedestrians--as do I myself. An excellent game. (One negative: the bonus game, unlocked by finding collectors cards, is surprisingly mundane given the the rest on offer here.)

YEAH I HAVE THE GAME SO I CAN TELL YOU HOW IT IS

the game is a copy of GTA. Everyones said it, and its true. I have the game, and i found that it is the game that changes all of the other games. ITS GOOD! You can get out of your car whenever you want, with a lot of characters to choose from. You can beat an old lady with a stick just like in GTA, or do missions or rob a bank or rob a store and get extra food! Springfield comes alive in awesome, great graphics that are clean and sharp and are fun to play in. Springfield is humongous letting you explore around. Altough the game is sometimes really easy, and insanely hard. Sometimes the game is a little inappropriate for little gamers, but otherwise its pretty good.
this game deserves 4 stars, its definetly a rental. if you like it enough, buy it, beat it, play it again-Theres tons of coins and special prizes! AWESOME!

Hit and Run

Ahhh the infamous dysfunctional family finally comes to the gaming scene with a worthwhile game. Not to say that "Simpsons Skateboarding" and "Simpsons Road Rage" are bad games, however in comparison to "Hit and Run," I had to ask myself why it took so long to get it all to work seamlessly. "Hit and Run" is a triumph over past "Simpsons" game titles. Succeeding where others have failed. Yes, the platform is borrowed almost directly from "Grand Theft Auto." And for the parents out there considering "Hit and Run" as a christmas present of whatever, but question the content based on the platform, I can assure you this game is very child-friendly. However, unlike "GTA," there are no weapons, no blood, no sexual themes, and the closest thing to fighting is the laughable kicking of Springfield's citizens. Players may select from playing Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Apu. Like "GTA," "Hit and Run" is mission-based, many are limited by time though more often than not the time constraint is ample to complete the objectives. The city of Springfield is massive, very colorful and true to the TV series. Viewers of the TV series will recognize many of the landmarks, with the ability to explore parts of the city as well as the new portions of the city that are unlocked after completing certain missions. All the voices are used in the game just as they are in the TV series and some hilarious conversations and one-liners are sure to keep you very well entertained. I highly suggest this game for lovers of The Simpsons as well as for those you enjoy the rampant destruction of "GTA."

Very Entertaining...Yet Lacking

I love this game, its very fun to ride around Springfield bumping into all our favorite Simpsons characters, the GTA-type gameplay makes it easy and fun, and the dialogue from all the people you run into (literally) is very humorous. My ONLY problem with it is that the missions they make you do are SO STUPID! Drive the Comic Book Guy to the Comic Book Store...Collect Apu's monkees...Such are the missions that lack substance and cause one to grow tired of the game rather fast.

Great

Man I just have to say this is one of the best games ever. I won this game really fast but it was still worth buying because it's one of the best simpsons games so far. You get to play as homer, apu, marge, lisa, and bart. There are like 56 missions and in each level you are assigned 7 missions. There is a bonus mission in every level but you don't have to win it because it's only a bonus. So if you don't win them then there are only 49 missions in all. The bonus missions are also hard to find because you have to find the character with a exclamation point on his head. There are 9 movies and you unlock them as you progress. There are also 49 cards 7 in each level which you can find and every time you find them in a level you unlock a little mini game with a different course each time you get all the cards in a level. If you find and get all the cards in the whole game you then have to go to lisa's level and go to that shop where comic book guy is and purchase a ticket, after you get it go to the aztec theater talk to the teenager and you will see an itchy and scratchy cartoon whick later will be added to your movies selection screen. You also can buy cars and unlock them. There are also 3 racing missions in each level all you do is find someone with a checkerd flag above their heads and talk to them, each time you beat all three racing missions you get a car. There are seven levels total. First you play as homer then bart then lisa then marge then apu then bart again and finally homer again. The levels are really good and beautifully designed. There are also gags which you press and something funny happens, they are scatterd trough each level. There is a movie for each level except lisa's but after you unlock all the cards you get to see a cartoon in her level. This game is also challenging at some points but still fun. This game is very well done and all the characters voices are there. The movies are also very funny. You can also walk into some places like the simpsons home are moes. You can also buy costmes for the characters, there are three costumes to buy in each level. Overall if you like the simpsons or don't then get this game now because it is very fun, it's just like grand theft auto except without the guns and blood.

Great Simpsons game.

The cars in this game are really cool, my favorites write now are Homer's 70's sports car, Snake's "The Bandit" car, and Bart's red ferrini car. The outfits are really cool too

Homer 1st level-I have him in Homer Casual
Bart 2nd level-Bart tall
Lisa 3rd-Lisa cool
Marge 4th-Marge cop
Apu-American
Bart 6th-Bartman
Homer 7th-Evil Homer

The game is fun but the only thing is that the game is sometimes repetitive and the missions are either next to impossible or too simple. For example on Apu's level, you have to follow a garbage truck and collect the 5 trash cans it drops and then you have to collect 25 more trash cans thyat are scattered all over the city. To make things worse you have to do all of that under, I believe, 4 minutes! But nontheless, the game is great and I personally think it's much better than Road Rage. I say buy it!

And to the kid who needs help finding the cola truck on Apu's level, I'll gladly help you. You know that area of the city where there are those 2 trains that collide and move back? There's what appears to be a wooden building with Krusty glass on it, crash the glasss and it'll be there.

Simpsons and Grand Theft Auto!

Listen, if you like The Simpsons, get this game. If you like Grand Theft Auto, get this game. If you like both, you should get this game even more! In The Simpsons: Hit and Run, you play as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, Apu, Bart again, and Homer again. In this game you can steal cars and buy and win cars of your own. When you buy or win the car and destroy it, you have to pay to bring it back. But hey, that is a little bit more realistic than GTA. Also the cars you steal are actually borrowed{The original driver is still there, you tell them what to do}. And there are secret civilian cars like an ATV, a wierd toy car, and a monster truck. If you'r cheap, just "borrow" cars all the time. Obveousley there are cheats to this game so don't worry much {Hold L1 and R1 at the options menu and press Triangle, X, Triangle, X to get all the cars you drive invincible}. The cheats won't beat the game right away for you, just help, so you still have the fun of playing the missions, and kicking the civilians and robo-wasps. One more thing: the characters always say something funny.

the best game ever

The Best 'Simpsons' Game, But Not The Best Game In General

So many people said this was going to be so great but guess what, it isn't. From the frustration of repeatetive missions and the insane difficulty, to the over-all sucky ending and the worst vehicle control I've ever seen. I descovered that it's a lot more fun to play through the game a 2nd time, but 1st you have to survive the 1st time, which is practically killer.

The story is very creative and the movies are very witty and Simpson-like. However, we find that it winds down to something extremely stupid. I won't spoil it for you, but I WILL tell you it was a very dumb story.

The gameplay has you driving almost everywhere. It would have been nice to do a little more on foot. I could've gone for REAL levels, having you kill enemies besides these stupid wasp cameras. I mean levels like in a Crash Bandicoot game or Mario. You run through, killing robots and achieving tasks. Tasks already appear, but next time I want a real Simpson adventure game, not a driving game. Every damn Simpsons game has been driving for as long as I can remember.

The game features a wide variety of characters and missions. I swear, 50% of the missions are RIGGED. The last mission is killer. You have to drive out of the school play ground and then race the aliens to the power plant. Then you've gotta collect some nuclear waste and deliver it back to the spaceship in the playground, in less then 1 minute. Wait, it get's better. YOU CAN'T BUMP INTO ANYTHING OR ELSE YOU HAVE TO DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE POWER PLANT AND COLLECT THE WASTE ALL OVER AGAIN! Plus, once you get to the Simpsons' house, you've gotta get away from the aliens. Once you collect the nuclear waste, you should just hve it and simply have to make it back to the playground. I'm all for, get away from the aliens, but you shouldn't be able to lose the nuclear waste like that.

Graphics are very well done. Control is great on foot, but when you're driving, it's terrible. You can't jsut turn, you got to either slow down or skid (which is a great way to lose control of you're vehicle, by the way) and power sliding doesn't help at all. There's lots of sharp turns and very short times when you really need like forever to complete the insanely difficult tasks.

The game wasn't good in very many ways, but if you are the sort of person who can over look these things for the 'Simpsons' humor and the naturally beautiful design as well as clever menus, I'd recommend 'The Simpsons Hit & Run'.

Hardly entertaining

There's not much to say about Simpsons Hit and Run. It is amazing this game has gotten even one good review, but it has. I was suckered into buying this game believing it was a decent varation of Grand Theft Auto -- I've been waiting for someone to make a non-violent GTA. But this game is nothing more than a driving game thrown into an imitation world attempting to evoke feelings of GTA. The missions are not only repetitive, but they are utterly fail to entertain. It's not just the fact that you keep doing similar missions again and again, but that the missions themselves make no sense. In one mission your running around picking up garbage so the characher Snake will give you some information. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And you find yourself jumping on the roofs of buildings to find this trash. It's entirly tedious, it makes no sense, and nearly all the missions in the game are like this. Being a fan of the Simpsons does nothing to make this game more enjoyable. The character animations are lifeless and remind you little of their cartoon counterparts. Sure, the voices are the same, but that's not enough.
All in all, don't rent this game, and cetainly don't buy it. And don't be suckered in by the statement "Best Simpsons game Ever." It may will be, but it has been the worst game I've played on the Playstation 2.
