Hardly entertaining

There's not much to say about Simpsons Hit and Run. It is amazing this game has gotten even one good review, but it has. I was suckered into buying this game believing it was a decent varation of Grand Theft Auto -- I've been waiting for someone to make a non-violent GTA. But this game is nothing more than a driving game thrown into an imitation world attempting to evoke feelings of GTA. The missions are not only repetitive, but they are utterly fail to entertain. It's not just the fact that you keep doing similar missions again and again, but that the missions themselves make no sense. In one mission your running around picking up garbage so the characher Snake will give you some information. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And you find yourself jumping on the roofs of buildings to find this trash. It's entirly tedious, it makes no sense, and nearly all the missions in the game are like this. Being a fan of the Simpsons does nothing to make this game more enjoyable. The character animations are lifeless and remind you little of their cartoon counterparts. Sure, the voices are the same, but that's not enough.
All in all, don't rent this game, and cetainly don't buy it. And don't be suckered in by the statement "Best Simpsons game Ever." It may will be, but it has been the worst game I've played on the Playstation 2.

They thought this was like Grand theftouto?

I read some where that this is the simpsons version of Grand theftouto. Yeah Right! This horrible game is nothing like Grand Theftouto. First off, you don't get to kill ANYONE! All you can do is kick them and they just roll on the ground! The police thing is horrible to. In Grand Theftouto, you get a chance to fight the police and even get there guns, but in this if the just come close to you they take your money and the game keeps going. Oh, and instead of throwing people out of the car and taking the car like in Grand Theftouto, you friendly ask the person for a ride and they drive you were you want to go. The missions can not be compared at all with Grand Theftouto. in Grand theftouto, your missions are to kill somone, but in this one of your missions is to give Lisa her homework before the princable gets to school. If you love Grand Theftouto and is thinking of getting this it is nothing like Grand Theftouto.
Infact, I would not recamend this game to anyone.

This was single-handedly the worst game I have ever played. It was boring, confusing, and so repetitive it made me want to scream!

Do not waste your money and time on this trash!

I bought this game recently, because I love the Simpsons and love the other games featuring the residents of Springfield. I must say that I have never played Grand theft Auto to which many people compare this game, but I believe you do not have to be familiar with GTA to honestly rate this game as one of PS2s worst games ever!

Levels one through three are actually really fun, because you get to experience Springfield in 3D and you get to interact minimally with other Springfield residents and environments. The treasure hunt of finding wasp cameras, collectable cards, Buzz cola cases and machines, and coins was fun for the first hour or two, but this is the majority of the game and becomes terribly redundant and boring! The missions put the player at a great disadvantage and you have to be more than perfect in some cases to be successful and to advance the plot WITHOUT utilizing the skip feature that many others obviously clung to and who rated this game highly!

After Level three this game repeats itself to a ridiculous degree! The missions are exactly the same, but you might control a different character and complete tasks with both less time and with impossible perfection (I must have attempted the same thing 40 times or even more on some of the pointless missions!). Almost all of the missions have nothing to do with any of the storyline and only frustrate the player beyond the scope of what a game should expect from a player.

The game also becomes very annoying on top of it all as the characters say the same things over and over and over! I think that each character has about five phrases total and believe me... you will have them all memorized very quickly. If you find one of the main characters automatically annoying in the series as I do... they will be even worse and make you want to bang your head against the wall until your headache disappears!

I actually wasted my time and almost finished this game, but after attempting the final mission about 50+ times... I gave up! I saw no possible way for the average player to beat this yet alone enjoy themselves in attempting to do so. I have lost all motivation and desire to complete this game and because of my terrible experience... I am leery to try the new title which was just released this year.

If you like the Simpsons and enjoy driving games... steer clear from this garbage as your money would be better spent on Road Rage or the Hot Wheels series.

boring, boring, and BORING

Simpsons mixed with GTA.....sounds great, right?? That's what I thought until I spent several days playing the exact same three missions over and over.....and over again. Every single missions is either one of three things: racing someone, hiting something with your car, or getting somewhere by a certain time. The fact that its set in Springfield is its only saving grace, as gameplay is marginal at best. This is a rental if I've ever seen one.....don't waste your money.

Frustrating Game Despite Starring the Simpsons

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 7 / 10

I love the SIMPSONS and this is the first Simpsons game that I have played, so I can't compare it to the rest. Maybe in comparison to the earlier games it is a great game, but as a stand alone game, it is not very good.

Yes, all the characters are here in a GTA like format. You can interact with the locations you know from the TV show. All the voices are the same. There are cut scenes with all the characters.

BUT, the game itself is not much fun. A lot of the game is driving missions and the actual driving is incredibly frustrating. If you make one mistake, hit something once, you are out of the race pretty much and fail the mission.

Plus, many of the missions are multi part and even if you fail on the last part of a three part mission you have to go and replay it from the beginning. Spend twenty minutes just getting back to that third part. The good thing is that after 8 or so attempts, it lets you skip it. I hate to say how many times I have skipped missions.

Not to mention on all the second, third, and fourth attempts you have to listen to the same dialogue over and over and over again. That really gets annoying. I played a lot of it with the sound off.

I've had the game for almost a year now and can honestly say I haven't picked it up all that often to play it. I played it for a while after it came out, then just put it aside, for months at a time, before picking it up again. It really isn't all that much fun.

Disappointing follow-up to "Road Rage"

My husband and I enjoy "Simpsons Road Rage" so we thought we'd like "Simpsons Hit and Run" just as much. While it may be a mistake to compare games, it's also very natural. You hope to find a sequel similar yet better.

Hit and Run is neither, really. There is a strange storyline: You must go from place to place as different Simpsons characters, trying to collect cards and destroy "wasp cameras". I suppose what those are will be explained after the game ends; the problem is, the game really doesn't make you care about that. Which wouldn't matter if it were fun along the way; but I'm really not sure that's the case.

We are fans of the Simpsons cartoon series also, by the way. But this game is mostly frustrating. The missions seem pointless and sometimes annoying. In some, you must hit a moving car or van, and 'collect' what it drops along the way. Of course it does all it can to avoid your hitting it. The problem is, if you keep close enough to keep hitting the vehicle, then you can't collect what it drops, as that might be across the street. And the chase winds through turning city streets or even across broken highway overpasses.

If there were some payoff for completing a difficult mission it might be satisfying. But there is no payoff. You get a faster car at each level automatically, and those usually trump any cars you 'won' by completing street races in the previous level. You can go back to any prior level using a later car, which is a huge plus... But it gets tedious and repetitive along the way. The lines the characters say at random even repeat; most say about five different lines each, which gets old fast during any amount of game play.

The mini game is worthless. This is truly a one player game. The only two player aspect is the mini game, which is awful. I could not believe how clunky its graphics were. Imagine seeing Matchbox cars from atop a skyscraper and watching them go round a toy track. That's what it looks like ! TINY. And an overhead view ! You can't tell where you are steering, so racing the mini game is pointless. I got "Hit & Run" thinking we'd be able to race two-person freestyle like in "Road Rage" -- but this "Matchbox car" mini game is the only two player aspect it offers. So, make it a one player game. They should not have even added the awful, useless mini game in "Hit & Run".

Worst of all, if you hit too many things, you get a "Hit and Run" citation and police cars start to chase you. If they catch your car you lose fifty bucks and some time in the game. One of the more fun aspects of "Road Rage" was chasing and smashing at will. It was all cartoony and fun. Here, you can't even do that. The game penalises you for it !! You just have to run the game's routine missions of chase, collect or evade, over and over. I will add that after five tries you can skip a mission and go on; but what's the point there ? I end up timing out on purpose just to see if the next level is more entertaining. So far (and I'm almost done in the game) it's not.

Oh, and I would NOT say Hit & Run is for young kids. In one mission, Bart is chased by car, by Principal Skinner. When I accidentally got Bart out of his car, Bart was run over by Principal Skinner in the game, eight or nine times ! I know Bart and Skinner are enemies in the cartoon show; but mowing him down as he runs away on foot, and backing up over him nine times in his car is likely to give kids nightmares about their own principals.

The only time I had actual, giggly fun was using a 'cheat' to make the cars burn upon one hit; and making my car 'bounce'. Bouncing around Springfield hitting cartoon cars and making them blow up, was weirdly fun. At least it was more imaginative than the pointless "missions" which go nowhere. The amended gameplay reminded me of "Killer Cars" in Monty Python's FLying Circus. But you shouldn't have to go to such extreme lengths to make a game amusing, when you've just spent a lot of money on it.
The gameplay as written just repeats from level to level and leaves much to be desired. I expected more laughs and imagination from the creators of "The Simpsons" than this.

The graphics too, are not very good. Everything looks flat and Two-Dimensional, thanks to almost NO shading at all. Not a plus when you're trying to 'steer' a fast-moving car in a race. I think "Road Rage" actually looked better. "Hit & Run" has the feel of an old game sitting around, that they pushed out to make money before PS 3 comes out.

And the part about Skinner mowing Bart down even once Bart was on foot, and backing up and mowing him down again, and then running into him and pinning Bart against a brick wall !! -- was disturbing even to me. Not for kids !

All in all, an odd game, and tedious to boot.
