Real VS.Beta

Well, I had the chance to fly the Beta version of FS 2002. The best part of it was finaly the WX was very realistic. I put the WX to THSA with with heavy precip. When I did a side view, it looked very real, I thought I was in the BE-99 that I fly in real life. Shooting an app down to mins was like the real thing. I was truly impressed. I found that the airport listing was much better than before& when you wanted to find an airport, you could just use the airport idenifier ie. KBUR KLAX ect. and it took you there. The hold short and taxi lines were a big pluss. The ATC was ok, But I am andvit VATSIM user. I tryed to load up Squawk Box, and it just did not like it at all.I hope it will work when it if finally released.

The bad thing was, I did not see ant improvement of the frame rates in flight. And like I said before SQ Box did not work with it. I am sure some good person out there will get it to work for everyone. Excellent job as usal Microsoft :)

Aid to flying

I'm a private pilot who recently got a multiengine instrument rating, thanks to this simulator. I was able to practice all of my approaches under all conditions, including partial panel at my airport. I asked for the most difficult examiner and told him to throw the book at me. I think he was shocked to see that I did everything flawlessly. He suggested to the FBO that I be hired as an instructor. This simulator gave me that ability and confidence. As an experiment I taught my son who is 10 to fly on the simulator and he singlehandedly requested and flew an instrument approach in real life. This simulator is a must for anyone seriously interested in becoming a pilot.

Blue screen issues

I had blue screen issues with Flight Simulator 2002, but discovered it was in fact my system which was being overclocked from 800 MHz to over 1 GHz. When I clocked it back (I'm running Windows XP, by the way) FS2002 worked like a charm! No more blue screens or crashes, just beautiful bug-free play.

FS2002 is by far the best sim I've ever played, and it's programming is far more efficient, as it can keep a good framerate on a decent machine (Celeron 800) with the graphics turned way up! Thousands of trees and small buildings, very detailed terrain elevations, airports that actually look like airports and function like airports, the ability to download real-time Jeppesen World weather with a winds-aloft feature, the sun reflecting off the water, real-time ATC which works very convincingly and good all-round dynamic scenery AI.

I would recommend this to any flight sim enthusiast!

A Great Upgrade!

This game is definetly a great upgrade from Flight Simulator 2002, as a Flight Sim fans since FS98, I strongly recommended you to buy this product. One thing I want to point out is that you REALLY need a nice working computer to get the most out of this game or else you'll be seeing slides show. I would recommend you have a 1.6 GHZ processor or above with at least 128 MB of RAM if you are serious about Flightsimming and want to get the most out of this game. I have 1.6 GHZ Processor with 512MB of RAM and everything works absolutely fine with the sliders all the way up.
The Air Traffic Control feature is just incredible. When you file an IFR Flight plane, the ATC guides you all the way to your destination. It tells you when to descend and to what altitude, the heading, vectors to get lined up with Runway, nearby traffics and much much more! The AI Aircraft are just great but sometimes they often do foolsh things like hitting the terminal and going through the other side (anyway, this happends very rarely.) Overall, the AI is great. Sceneries are a lot better, especially major cities. Comprehensive lessons offers a very easy path to becoming a sucessful pilot in Flight Simulator. Although the manual is included in Adobe Acrobat form, you can still print them out. Also, the new airplanes' details really gone up! When you reverse thrust, the engine slides back as in real life. Spoilers, flaps, ailerons, rudder are all working and VERY realistic. When you touch down, a white puff of smole appears as the tires make contacts to the pavement of the Runway. The sound is also cool. SO I REALLY RECOMMEND YOU TO GET THIS, ALTHOUGH IT'S WORTH QUITE A LOT, BUT THE FEATURES INSIDE IS AMAZING.

Buyer Beware

Let's face it. This software was designed to take advantage of the latest and greatest in hardware technology. If you ain't got it, buying this software will only lead to disappointment. It takes everything my 1.8GHz P4 with 512MB of PC800 RDRAM and a 100GB HD can dish out.

I've had no problems with the software but have heard of lots of problems from folks with lesser hardware.

Excellent!

This program is the best! I've experienced the flight sims '95 through '02 and the '02 professional version is the best flight simulator I've ever seen. The graphics are amazing. Even without full graphics I can recognize familiar areas in Seattle. The system is suprisingly lag-free. Actually, the game seemed to run smoother with the highest number of pixels selected. The computer it's on is rather slow as well. The planes are immaculate in their handling. Each one has different characteristics, or personality. You can feel the light power motor of the Cessna, but climb into the all, new, Vought Corsair and you can almost feel the surge of power as you add full throttle. The new Bell Jet Ranger is great fun. The ATC (Air Traffic Cotrol) is incredibly accurate. I use it almost all the time I fly. As I left on a real flight about two weeks ago I could see the signs marking the taxi BA on the runway. That's the very taxiway I'm directed to use in flight sim. There are new features on the planes. You can open and close the doors, and listen to other pilots with ATC. Also the new Virtual Cockpit adds stunning realism. You can now get the view that pilots have in the real world. It improves visiblilty too. In the Vought Cosair you can actually fold the wings up and lower the tailhook. The places around the globe that you can fly over are endless. The game even has private airstrips that belong to ranches on it. For you who want to get a taste of Afghanistan (I don't think many do) You can fly there. The outside graphics are incredible. In one building in Seattle you can actually see the desks, file cabinets, and computers INSIDE the building. Congratulations Microsoft and whoever buys Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Professional version!

i have been a fan of microsoft flight simulator for many years. i have every flight sim made by microsoft from flight sim 95-2002. now i went to the store with the idea of getting ither flight sim 2002 or the exspansion pack for mechwarrior 4. of course i bought fs 2002. i have been wating for this game ever since i new it was in the making, the only reason i didn`t buy it was because i didn`t have the money being i was going to buy a gamecube. when i got home i found out very quickly that my computer had plenty of power. my computer is a compaq running windows me with 256 mb of ram, 32 md of DDR video memory (a ati all in wonder), 40x cdrom, and a 750 mhz amd durron (it is as good as a 600 mhz pIII) i was so hapy to find that i worked perfectly at 800 X 600 (the resolution) and it worked very well on 1024 X 768. and i recomend having it on 1024 X 768 because it looks a lot nicer. now about the game itself, the game has intense grafics. the game is just soo real a lot better than any other flight sim that i know of. it has 16 air craft (some are only on the pro edition). there are some advantages to havin the pro edition there are 4 more aircraft and some other things. there are tons of airports i think over 21,000 it said on the box. they arn`t all in the us there are some all over the world. the only thing i don`t like about it is you don`t get your pilot hand book without being at your computer to look at it unless you print it out and believe me this isn`t less than 100 pages. now if you don`t know how to fly don`t think that this isn`t a game for you. there are many training exercises that have been improved over the years plus there are more of them then in previous editions. if you don`t have expiriance flying, or with flight simulators and are looking for a realistic, good-looking, and easy way to start get this game!

This sim is the bomb!! I think all aviation euthusists should get this. With better graphics and more realistic gameplay this rocks all other flight sims away. The live air trafficers and amazing graphics will make you love it. But a lower level system might mess them up. At my friends house he had a three year old Dell and it came up frezzing on him and the textures started to fizze. The price may be high but good graphics and gameplay make this your best choice.

- To Fly is all i have wanted since i was little and game was right for me. Last christmas i got this simulaor and a sidewinder joystick. This game is so real i find myself yelling in my room because im doing barrel rolls in the extra. i play this simulator every day when i get home from school till i go to bed.You never will get tired of this simulator

There are so many things to do on this simulator including:

-Select a flight-where you choose a flight already made.
-Create a flight-you can choose your own plane, choose anywhere in the world you would like to fly and all the conditions of the flight
-Learn to fly-take lessons from instructor,Rod Dimacho, and earn your private, instrument, commercial, and airline transport Licenses.
-Multiplayer- Fly with other aviators online
-Library- You do not go to the local bookstore anymore! Get your charts, Ground school handbooks, and many others.

The only bad thing about this simulator is that the graphics arent the best. You may be thinking that if you fly off in your town that you can see your house but thats not true. Also you cant get the exitement of crashing out of this simulator, all it does is stick the plane in the ground and if you do not want to crash just turn that setting off and you will just bounce off things.

If you dont have enough money tot ake lesson or you just want to practice this simulator is for you.My uncle is a pilot and he is amazed on how i can fly just by playing this simulator.

Hope you liked my review!

--Some key points--

Many have reviewd this product in detail. I just want to add a few key points to those still considering purchasing this sim. I hope this review will make FS2002 more enjoyable!

1. You can't have enough CPU & Graphics power. I have an AMD 1800+ w/ GeForce 2 ti 64mb card, 512MB RAM, etc. It works great. Anything less would require a compromise.

2. You MUST upate your video drivers. I see many reviews about bugs in the program. These are bugs, but not in FS2002. Update your video drivers!! This sim uses every ounce of video performance you can give it so it will stress your drivers unlike any other program. If you don't put the newest drivers on you won't get good performance and it may crash your system. Again, this is the fault of your VIDEO DRIVER not FS2002. Your video card vendor released new drivers for a reason -- get 'em!

3. Just as you CAN run Windows XP without a mouse, you CAN use FS2002 without a good joystick. But don't. Get a Microsoft Precision 2 Force Feedback joystick and you won't be sorry. There are other joysticks that work just as well and Amazon has them for a good price.

In short, get this sim! It's the best there is.
