Visually great, not well tuned

The features, flight model, planes, scene database, and configuration/settings interface is quite good. It's fun to fly.

It doesn't seem like the software is particularly well tuned for performance (frame rate is critical for flight simulation). The frame rates are quite low even with good hardware. I was using a 2 Ghz AMD machine, Win 2K, and a GeForce Ti 4200. At the time this was a very good CPU, good OS (for games), and a fairly good gfx card.

cool as

- To Fly is all i have wanted since i was little and game was right for me. Last christmas i got this simulaor and a sidewinder joystick. This game is so real i find myself yelling in my room because im doing barrel rolls in the extra. i play this simulator every day when i get home from school till i go to bed.You never will get tired of this simulator

There are so many things to do on this simulator including:

-Select a flight-where you choose a flight already made.
-Create a flight-you can choose your own plane, choose anywhere in the world you would like to fly and all the conditions of the flight
-Learn to fly-take lessons from instructor,Rod Dimacho, and earn your private, instrument, commercial, and airline transport Licenses.
-Multiplayer- Fly with other aviators online
-Library- You do not go to the local bookstore anymore! Get your charts, Ground school handbooks, and many others.

The only bad thing about this simulator is that the graphics arent the best. You may be thinking that if you fly off in your town that you can see your house but thats not true. Also you cant get the exitement of crashing out of this simulator, all it does is stick the plane in the ground and if you do not want to crash just turn that setting off and you will just bounce off things.

If you dont have enough money tot ake lesson or you just want to practice this simulator is for you.My uncle is a pilot and he is amazed on how i can fly just by playing this simulator.

Hope you liked my review!

However, this is NOT a game:

So, either play, or go buy a REAL simulator, licenced by FAA to be used in a simulator setting. Loggable!

the best flight sim even as it is older

I have a hp pavilion (most idiotic pc ever created by mankind) pc with 500 mhz p3, 64mb riva TNT graphics card and 128mb of ram and I was still able to enjoy this game. Yes, I had to shut down every single program to let this game eat up my system resources, and yes it was so slow that I could practically count the frames on the screen as I flew the cesna over a night shot of las vegas. But the intensity! the magic!! woohoo! this game rules!@!@!

Fantastic!

Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready for one of the most realisticly simulators avaialable on today's market! Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2002 Professional Edition really takes you to the skies! I have had this simulator for a little over a year, and I have not come to any major disapointments yet! I actaully got this simulator right when I started taking aviation lessons, and let me tell you, this program is nothing short of amazing! Amazing visuals, realistic flight models, real-time automated weather and scenery, new artifical intelligence system, new interactive air control system, and so many more goodies just packed into this flight sim!

Flight Simulator 2002 Professional has many new features than its other simulator brands (such as Flight Simulator 98). New Aircraft, new artificial intelligence system, new interactive air control system, new NEW NEW! Everything, if not everything, then nearly everything is new in MFS2002Pro. Now I know what you're probably thinking right now. You're probably thinking wait, why is this simulator so fun? I mean all you do is fly around in a simulated airplane. Wrong! You experience what it's like to fly in real time, well..almost at least. Well..maybe not almost, but close! Imagine taking off in a Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet, on your way to a long international flight to Paris, or skim the ocean waters, lakes, whatever in a Caravan Floatplane, or how about cruising around in New York City to have a glance at the Empire State Building in a Bell 206B Jetranger III Helicopter. So many possibilities! With having more than 22,000 airports world wide, make flying almost endless. You can also fly to private unknown airports, not just intl. ones.

MFS2002Pro also supports cool new features such as real-time weather. This is a neat option. If you have a modem above 56k, this is especially useful. What this does is take weather information from a satelite, and transfers that data into your simulator, making it real-time. Say if you live in Los Angelas, California and it's storming over there, just thundering and raining all day, then click this option, and it'll put it's exact weather conditions into your simulator. Not only does MFS2002Pro have neat features, it has great graphics too. When you fly above major cities, you'll notice different buildings. Offices, construction zones, schools, houses, popular landmarks, etc. Auto-generated scenery, another beautifully crafted option in MFS2002Pro. But to make those cities in this sim look more real, you have to turn up auto-generated scenery all the way too 100%, and you must have a machine that can handle it. There are tons of cool graphics in this sim as I stated above. When your plane touches down on the runway, you can see the smoke comming off the tires, you can see reflections on your plane's fuselage, and so much more. Although the graphics are weak in some spots (such as the terrain mesh, trees, water, etc.), it's still a pretty good lookin' sim! Of course though, we can't have ultra-hyper cinemetic graphics on a huge map, I mean it's the world we're talkin' about, it's huge! Machines can't handle that yet. In a few years though, I am hoping for Microsoft to improve the graphics a bit. Maybe entering different types of trees, making realistic waves in the simulator (such as being close to the ground you can see the waves lifting up and brushing off the shores), seeing cars speed past each other on the highways, etc. Maybe it'll happen in a few years, who knows. But for now, the graphics are pretty realistic in most areas.

You just don't have fun playing with this sim, you actaully learn from it too! In fact, sometimes you won't even know if you learn something, because you're so busy having fun. I use this simulator not only to have a blast flying to Chicago, but to help me practice flying in real life. If you're serious with this simulator, and don't fool around with it such as crashing on purpose, you will develop good flight habbits. Because of this simulator, I have learned my instruments in less than a full day, instead of reviewing the different instruments for a week in a book. If you're serious with this simulator, this simulator will be serious with you.

So MFS2002Pro, is it worth buying? I could go raving on and on about this, but I'm getting pretty tired. So if high-rendered visuals, being able to fly nearly anywhere in the world, learning what it "kind of" feels like to be an aviator, then this is the game for you! I suggest a processor of at least 1.6 ghz, a minimum of 512MB RAM, a high-end video card, crank this simulator up and experience a whole new thing! The more realism in this sim your computer can handle, the more interesting and exciting things will get!

Great!

I finally bought an updated version of MS flight sim. I had the MS Flight Sim for windows 95 before and i must say that this is a significant improvement! There is a a variety of aircraft to choose from and they are all, of course, difficult to control though you can adjust the settings. The AI is great and the interactive Airport Traffic Control is really cool! The detailed scenery is another beautiful addition. Everything adds to the games realism. This is definitely a great buy!

wow, what a game. Buy it, but...before you buy your cpu needs..
at least 256 RAM, nvidia video driver, joystick, 10GB Hard disk, and recommended internet connection for downloads. If not the game will not work very well.

It's the best!!!

This flight simulator it's the best game ever. You could spend hours playing it and not get bored. Even if you are into planes or not you will enjoy a lot. The graphics are fantastic and all the realism settings this game brings makes you feel like you are actually flying. The planes, the airports, the cities can't get any more real. Everything this simulator brings makes you feel good about buying this game. Buy it and you won't regret it. It's a great buy!!!
