Love this!

I wasn't sure about this game because the Jungle Storm games I was horrible at, but this game was GREAT! I loved the different missions and the fact that I got to order the men around. I've played games with similar objectives where you control other characters and it didn't work for me, but this one was easy to catch on to and kept me up playing it until late into the night.

I played the PS2 version which I hear is different than the XBOX version but it still made me feel good that I'd chosen this game. The graphics are good the action makes you feel like you are there and it never gets boring. Although the shooting and blasting are there you never know where the bad guys are and each mission is challenging! LOVE IT!!!

For Christmas I want the XBOX and this game:)

Splitscreen co-op feature not implemented

Rainbow Six 3 for the PS2 is quite a good looking game and plays generally quite well, with a decent interface and controls.

But I feel it has a significant problem. Let me make this clear: a friend and I purchased this game for the 2-player, splitscreen coop mode. Like Ghost Recon PS2, this mode is implemented extremely poorly. You can only play splitscreen on missions you have finished in campaign mode first. You cannot save after splitscreen missions. You can't progress beyond the first coop mission without running through more campaign missions.

Let's think about this. The game forces you to play through the game one player in order to play two player..at which point one of the players has to go through all the missions again in two player mode. To me, this is like forcing somebody to play through the game in order to get the sound working. Coop is an important feature that was mentioned over and over in advertising but does not really exist in a usable form.

Just wanted to blow off some steam and warn everyone: Do NOT buy this game for two player splitscren mode.

A good 'ol RB6 time

If you haven't played the earlier Rainbow Six series, here's a brief rundown: you play as a squad commander, outfit your team of counter terrorist specialists with the proper equipment for the mission (for the record: it doesn't matter one bit which guns you pick), then sneak around buildings/jungles/houses/boats, etc. obliterating a bunch of bad guys. Yeah, super original, but the emphasis is definitely on the word "sneak"-if you go in guns blazing the ornery terrorists will quickly dispatch the weak-ass hostages, causing your mission to fail and you to fling your controller against the couch in disgust. By coordinating your movements with your crack team of operatives (they all have different accents, and it's sometimes fun to blast the French guy in the face just because), you'll be able to simultaneously kick in a door on one side of the room while tossing flash-bangs in from another door; then you can simply go about your business, shooting terrorists in the chest while ducking and taking cover. The graphics are nicely rendered, the AI is pretty smart, and it's tons of fun to peek around a corner and rat-a-tat some fool in the neck who doesn't even know you're there, which really reminds me a lot of my regular life.

different from pc version but still fun

ok I cut my teeth with the PC Rainbow Six back in 1999. In the pc version, you have a lot of freedom to choose your team, where they will enter and exit, what they will do once there etc. Naturally this means a lot of pre-planning before you actually start the mission. The PS 2 version of things is definitely geared more towards action and less towards planning and stealth. That's not necessarily bad, but if you are a fan of the PC version of Rogue Spear or Raven Shield, please understand that this game is lot more like Soldier of Fortune - a very linear shooter with the emphasis on action. R6 vets will recognize a lot of the maps - most of them are modified versions of the maps found in Raven Shield.

Still I enjoyed this game. In this game you can do a few things which you can't do (or do easily) in the pc version. For example, using zulu go codes, you can leave your team while you go and do something else. This is especially fun if you want to set up an attack from more than one side of a room. Unfortunately, since the game is very linear and you don't have a map, you don't get to do this a whole lot, and usually you can tell when the map wants you to do it that way (two doors side by side). And since you don't plan stuff out in advance, you can simply back up and retreat if things go wrong. You character can take up to 4 shots in the game - the PC R6 is one shot, one kill unless the enemy is very far away.

It's fun to drop this in for some old school shooter action with realistic weapons and maps. Just don't expect the same experience as the PC version.

One and Only PS2's army, reality based game.

Battle the world's terrorists in several intense missions. I like this game so much that I bought it first on computer, then on XBOX and nearly an year I am enjoying this game. Now its turn of PS2. This game is game of the year on XBOX, and so its gonna be for PS2
Massive online Playing game.

Falls short of the X-Box version, but not a bad port overall

In the past, I have not been a big fan of the Rainbow Six series...but after playing the X-Box version of Rainbow Six 3, I was quite impressed. The plethora of selectable weapons and realistic environments adds a new twist on the first person shooter genre, allowing the player to guide a team of 3 other individuals in counter-terrorism scenarios. No quirky floating power-ups or monsterous boss battles here, just real-life situations with the stamina of a normal human. One well placed shot in the head or chest region will bring you down, as well as your opponents. Unfortunately, the PS2 version fails to fully replicate the experience of it's X-Box counterpart. Subtle differences in the backrounds and environments are present, some frame-rate problems exist here and there, and for some odd reason there are more loading screens. The exclusive Trieste mission is a fairly enjoyable romp, but isn't anything to get excited over. The split-screen mode is a generous addition and plays as smoothly as the 1-player campaign mode (which makes me wonder why it wasn't in the graphically superior X-Box version), but it's no substitute for playing via link cable. The bottom line: The PS2 is an acceptable port, but if you have an X-Box or a high end PC, you would do well to get Rainbow Six 3 for it instead.

One hell of a game!

You know what? I love the first person shooter games and I am a big fan of the Bond games. For some reason I love the sound of a loading gun and this is the satisfaction I have been waiting for in a game. This is one of the best first person shooters......well.......one of the BEST GAMES I have played.

First of all I like the weapin choice. You can really customize what you are fighting with. You have a primary, secondary, high explosive and covert weapons to chose from. Some of those missions I will tell you...they were really hard. the best thing in the game was what you could do with your team-mates. You could tell them what to do and they were the ones who made the mission that much easier. There is a window that popps up when you want them to interact with the environment, like doors and so on. I have to give this game a 5 out of 5 because first of all the graphics are incredable, it is a challenge, it makes you think, and it is just another fine product of the Tom Clancy mind!!

2.5 Stars. Some Good Ideas That Fall Far Short

As the godfather of the squad based counter terror game, I admit that I expected some big things from Rainbow Six 3. But instead what I got was what can be described as alot of good ideas that unfortunately aren't executed very well.

In Rainbow Six 3 you play the role of Ding Chavez, the leader of an elite count terrorist group called "Rainbow" commanded by Tom Clancy staple, John Clark. In the game you lead your team into various hot spots around the globle, battling terrorists to ensure the safety of the free world.

Rainbow Six 3's main downfall is it's gameplay. Red Storm has attempted to streamline this version by dispensing with the tedious planning stage. Unfortunatley it didn't concentrate enough on the actual missions. The missions are very linear in nature. Players essentially go from point A to point B, perform a task and then advance to the next objective. Whether it was by design or a result of the level layout, there is little if no room to improvise. By comparison, the game SOCOM by design is so well laid out that your objectives can be accomplished in any order and from a number of different ways. Also, the game is portrayed in first person. Which gives it a very clausterphobic feel. A third person option might have opened up the gameplay and levels more, but there are alot of Rainbow Six fans who would take offense to such an idea. There are many different "real world" weapons to choose from as well as "real world" tactics to employ, but unfortunately the gameplay isn't interesting enough to make the choice of weapons all that compelling. One welcome addition is the use of the USB headset. In single player you can give your team orders from a list of commands. This works pretty well and makes the game more enjoyable to a small degree. The only thing I haven't had a chance to try has been the online mode due to not having broadband or the Network Adaptor.

The graphics on this game are, at best, sub-par. Red Storm has recycled the Splinter Cell game engine for use on the PS2. But the character models are so poorly rendered that they look almost like wax statues from a museum. As stated above, the levels are poorly laid out. The spaces are very confined and not condusive to any kind of improvisation. The in game cutscenes are also substandard. Anyone old enough to remember the 60's television program The Thunderbirds will get a laugh out of them. But they are horribley voiced and scripted. The games sounds are very good as are with all Tom Clancy games. A game, however, does not live on sound alone.

I really had high hopes for this game. I thought the Red Storm and Ubi Soft could pull a rabbit out it's hat and deliver a great squad based game. It looks like that was not the case. Unless you're an ardent Rainbow Six fan, then I can't recomend this game. If you're looking for a better squad based game for the PS2 then I would recomend SOCOM and/or SOCOM 2. Either game is well worth the money.

Great Game.....

This is one of my favorite Tom Clancy video games!
Graphics: 8.5, the graphics are good but not perfect. The guns and buildings are really detailed.
Sound: 9, the gun fire is good, same with the people talking.
This isn't as good of a game as Splinter Cell, but still it's one of the best Tom Clancy game i've played! I would by this game if you'r are Clancy fan or like first person

The most awesome action game
