Beautiful game, but very empty.

Of all the games to be released for the Dreamcast, I was most looking forward to Dead or Alive 2. When I popped the game into my machine, I wasn't disappointed. The graphics are awesome! However, after playing the game for a couple of hours, I was not disappointed, just a bit let down. All of the things that I found appealing about the first DOA were not included with the second one. No extra costume changes that I've been able to find. Nothing to unlock after beating the game, and the endings are pretty weak at best. I even bought the "official book" from Prima that stated "All Secret Characters Revealed!"...well, I've read through the book and there aren't any. To sum up, the gameplay is great and the environments are beautiful, and Jann Lee still reverses everything you throw at him and beats you up quickly. This game is perfect if you only plan on playing with a friend, but it wasn't good enought for me to keep.

Best fighter on Dreamcast

Dead or alive 2 is another addion into the dreamcast's library of fighters and it is awsome. The graphics are great and it plays very well. My favorite feature is the tag team mode, where up to 4 players can play. Way better than the first game on playstation. If you liked soul calibur or virtua fighter 3, than this is your game.

A perfect example of a 128 bit fighting game

This game shows the power of a 128 bit console. It features absolutely stunning 3D environment graphics, great action and amazing character looks. For the first time in a fight game I have seen multi-tiered stages and tag battle mode. The cinematics in between the stages keeps the game absolutely on track. The music is also good. The blokes who rate Marvel vs capcom 2 or Soul Calibur as the best on DC sure haven't seen this one.For me it's the best fighter on DC.

Puts Soul Calibur to Shame!

This is one of the most exciting games I've ever had the joy of playing. The graphics go BEYOND the excellence of soul calibur. This is a MUST OWN for any Dreamcast owner. It has so many modes and the graphics are beyond describing with words. Move over, Soul Calibur, and make way for your betters! DOA2 rocks the arena!

Pure hand-to-hand

I recently played the demo. *WOW* If you want more intricate combat, go to your closest dojo. The combo system is so advanced, you actually have to reverse your opponents combos to get a hit in. No more cowering in the corner blocking your face with your armpit while time runs out. Come with your best shot or get laid out like I did in 10 seconds. Characters and arenas are beautiful, Soul Calibur..uhh...calibur, with way more flex appeal (more bounce than a Dr. Dre video). Definitely the next 3-D fighter you buy, or the first. Those Tae-Bo videos can wait for another day.

Collisions badly handled, too little variety, but solid game

1) Be forewarned that the graphics are a little "lazy" - the collisions are handled fairly poorly, so that fabric, hands, legs, etc all overlap and slide into each other pretty much all the time. Body parts do not stop when they hit body parts.
2) Be forewarned that characters, costumes, and backgrounds are limited -- I'm spoiled by having dozens of characters and arenas... the limited variety in DOA2 is frustrating.

Otherwise solid game...

And, hey, do not make the mistake of comparing the look-and-feel of this game to Soul Caliber, ok? This is closer to silly cartoon-like games like Marvel vs Capcom or Mortal Kombat Gold. It is cartoonish, highly stylized. It is not trying to be super-realistic. It's a beautiful, internally consistent, and good-looking game taking its stylization into consideration. Game play is fine. Fun! Easy enough, and with some variety for skill-building...

A Blast

I really liked Soul Caliber, but I think this game is much more fun and the graphics blow it away. I really like how you are not limited to staying in 1 specific area when fighting like so many other games. My favorite mode is the tag team. ... You can sit down and play this game for hours, and if friends come over and join in you start to feel like a junkie. Just cant put it down. Go buy it and have some fun!

short but beautiful...

Without a doubt this game has some of the most amazing graphics of any home console fighter I have ever seen. Multiple drop down levels, amazingly fluid animation, great cinema cut sequences, a joy to behold visually. Gameplay is simple enough, you have various grips in addition to the usual kicks and punches and that helps keep things fresh with counterattacks throws etc. The only complaint i have with the game is that the single player mode is too short. I was able to beat the game with 3 different characters within an hour of playing it. Vs play is great and if u have friends to fight against then that makes it all worth the short single player mode and you'll have a great time.

The 2nd Best Fighter On the Dreamcast.

I have played this game to death and I am still finding new counter moves, throws and attacks and I'm still having a blast! I completely disagree with anyone who says this gets old after hours of game play. Wrong! This game is only toped by Soul Caliber (Amazing) There are no extras to DOA2 but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying this awesome game. The countering system of the game is so cool although sometimes frustrating if your on the receiving end. It takes practice and sheer skill to truly master any of the characters and by doing so you'll get even more enjoyment by kicking your friend's ...! This is an essential game for the Sega Dreamcast that no owner should be without!

One fatal flaw...

Looking for another kick-arse fighting game for your Dreamcast? DOA2 might be what you are looking for. The fighting arenas and sound effects are incredible. The graphics are the best yet on any U.S. console. Load times were the fastest I have seen to date. The between fight cinematics are a nice touch too, although cheesy at times (to be expected for fighter games). And the tag mode is incredible!

BUT...

DOA2 just isn't very deep at all. It has only 12 characters, most of whom are very similar. Extremely easy to beat as well. There is nothing to unlock/discover about the game either... everything is available from the start. For me, the game just lacked depth. Rent first for sure!
