Evolution Rules!

This game is a truly wonderful first RPG for Dreamcast. It is funny, challenging, and doesn't take 30 min to beat. The battle system is identical to that of Final Fantasy VIII, and that is a damn good battle system. Can't wait for Evoulution 2!

Pretty decent... more than I expected.

It's a fun game, that's for sure. There is a noticeable lack of adequate storyline to have you immersed and no puzzles or anything to solve. Not to say that there isn't storyline, and it is a cute one, but it rears its head infrequently and it just sort of makes you feel like there should be more. I bought this game because I really wanted an RPG, I mean desperately. I saw all the mixed reviews and decided, well, it can't REALLY stink so I shelled out the dough and it's a purchase I'm glad I made. It's visually stunning! The combat system is very nice and there is a nice amount of charachter growth and variation. SPOILER:: At the end, they find out that Linear is the Evolutia Cyframe but after the ending, when you can still play, Linear is the same... a little dissapointing but a fun game!

very fun, but short

Evoltion is a really fun RPG. It's all about equipping yourself with tons of different items and fighting Big Bosses where you can use your stuff. My favorite thing is the way you can really use teamwork with the different characters. Linear is a healer, Mag is the leader in the front, and pepper is really strong too. Only negative is that the game is too short. i won it in one weekend. Ime used to RPG' like Zelda which take over a month to win.

This IS a very decent RPG. Reminds me of Lunar.

I bought this game with some trepidation because the reviews were mixed. I have been waiting for a new RPG for the Dreamcast so I finally bit the bullet and I'm glad I did. It's not perfect, there are some things that could be changed. But the proof is in the pudding-it's alot of fun to play, you will be wanting to get back to the game instead of taking care of your responsibilities and you will stare at the clock when you are going to bed at 2:00am in the morning and remember when you turned the game on at 9:00pm for "an hour or two". It does what a good japanese RPG is supposed to do. It transforms the grey days of Jan.-Feb. into colorful, action-packed escapism. I look foreward to more for my Dreamcast.

Evolution, a ruin-exploring RPG

This RPG is based in exploring ruins with your party but it has a good story behind it. It's very fun to play but it lacks for voices (you can only hear them in japanese, and only during combat). Another bad aspect is the longevity of the ruins: there are too many floors and after some time they'll turn repetitive (the floors are created randomly but it isn't enough). But you'll get over it after some time because you really don't need to investigate them all.

This game will evolve your mind!!!

About a month ago i saw evolution on the shelf of my local gaming store and it was $9, i said the heck with it, bought it, played it, and fell in love with it. This game redefines the letters RPG, the graphics are terrific (what game on dreamcast doesnt have good graphics)and the camera angles are stunning. The first time I got it I played it for 2 hours with my jaw open. My eyes scrunched up and i couldnt wait to play it the next day, and one other thing, Linear is terrible, i mean a frying pan??? come on. But Gre is the best, with his gun and "Matrix like attacks" without him, theyre is no room for success. A truly ignored but wonderful game.

monotony personifyed (did i spell that right?)

this game has graphics. the graphics are better than anything i have ever heard of for any console system, and this is good because I cant say that about the rest of the game.

the gameplay is good, the few menus easy to get around, and the sequence of events is interesting

but the ruins that you have to explore get boring after the first one. these dungeons are computer-generated, and sometimes seem to last forever. twoards the end, enemies are everywhere, and you will have to fight around 6 enemies in just one room!

the idea of the dungeons is to get to the highest floor so that you can defeat the boss and obtain an artifact from it. i just quit trying after i beat the second dungeon, because of the monotony. over 20 floors per dungeon makes for at lease 3.5 hours of gameplay per dungeon and this game gets boring very quickly.

if you like to buy games then sit and stare at the graphics, buy this, but if you want an RPG experience true to the standars of the Final Fantasy series, hold on to your money

FUN

What else can you say? This RPG is the perfect start for the dreamcast. All of the other games are going to have trouble living up to these high standards. And after you beat this amazing game filled with brilliant graphics try the sequle Evolution:2! Well maybe there is a few more words to describe this game besides FUN. How about: STUNNING, BUETIFUL, and just plain old AMAZING! So go out and BUY this BRILLIANT piece of art.

This is a great game if you like RPG's. Over the years I have played a lot of RPG's such as Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire. But this is one of the BEST RPG's I've ever played! So I guarntee you hardcore RPG gamers will love this.

First R.P.G for the DREAMCAST needs improvment

R.P.G's are my favorite type of games and this is one that gives and takes away some of the pizzaz of role playing games. The battle system is a simple and easy way to do combat with your foes. Yet we have this problem with random dugeons. That can frustrate and sometimes even drive away an avid gamer. There is already a sequal out in Japan without the random dungeons. Though it won't be out till either summer or winter of this year. It is a great game and if you like R.P.G's order right away!
