I've got to be honest my rommate has had a 360 and he recently got Gears of War. I purchased the new nintendo Wii last weekend and just watching my roommate play Gears on one of our big screens made me go out on friday and buy a 360 and gears of war. I haven't touched the wii in days because of this game. It is by far the funnest game I've ever played. The story is fantastic! The game play is so suprisingly good, and the online has me more hooked than Halo 2. To put it simply my eyes are SO bloodshot from this long long weekend.

Sets a new standard

In true Microsoft fashion, Gears of War was released laden with bugs and annoyances with a promise of a corrective patch in the not-to-distant-future.

Emergence day, I received my copy of GOW CE.

Opening cinematic clips were impressive and game play was stunning. I was floored. Then, 5 minutes into the first level, I dove across a bridge and ended up "frozen" in place. Of course I could move in a circle and reload my weapon, but I wasn't able to fire my weapon. I sat there while the enemy Locusts tore me apart.

I was disappointed, to the say the least, expecting a game full of these bugs. I am happy to say those utterly frustrating moments are few and far between. I am embarrassed to say I have experienced probably 200 hours of game play (online and local/story mode). During that time I've experienced 50-100 "glitches".

Only 10 or so of those have been major enough to cause me to shut down the system and restart.

Don't let that scare you. The experience is awesome enough to keep me cursing and spitting fire while I'm interrupted for 2 or 3 minutes while it loads up.

Here's what's awesome about the game:

1. It's intense. It is the most intense fighting game I've ever experienced.
2. It's mature. The entire story line is utterly raw. The language is foul. The blood and guts are impressively realistic, in an exaggerated animated way.
3. It's scary. I have 3 kids (7, 4, and 3). They LOVE to watch me play. This is the only game they will not/cannot sit through, simply because they are "afraid of the monsters". The 7 year old and I play split screen sometimes, and she actually dropped the controller to cover her eyes (we can debate parenting style later).
4. It's beautiful. The artwork and visuals for this game are the most impressive I have ever seen.
5. It's easy. "Easy to learn, hard to master" is a good description. But the controls are intuitive. NOTE: My wife, who is a hardcore Halo 2 gamer, despises this game. She says they made the controls different than other games just to be ornery. I disagree. But most people I've spoken with agree with me. The controls fit the feel of the game.

I have complaints. Most of them around online play. I once said anyone could be happy to own an Xbox if only for Halo 2.

I will go so far as to say one could own an Xbox 360 just for GOW.

PS: I don't think the CE is worth an extra 10 bux. The artwork is nice, and the video is "ok", but the game is the same in both editions. The tin is pretty, but it takes up more real estate than it needs to.

Awesome game !!!

This is a must have game and the killer ap the 360 needed. It's got graphics that make the PS3 look like a gamecube. It's got gameplay to match too. I haven't had this much fun playing a game since the 1st Halo came out. I hope they make a sequel to this one. If you own a 360, YOU HAVE TO GET THIS GAME ! If you don't own a 360 get one and a copy of this game now !

THIS GAME IS DEFECTIVE AND FAULTY!

I assure you I am not crazy. I purchased this game and after only two days of playing it the disc would no longer read. This game is incredibly fun but something is inherently faulty about the disc. My copy had NO SCRATCHES OR MARKS WHATSOEVER, in fact it barely ever left the disc tray of my xbox. My console is brand new and not at fault, my other games work fine.

BUY THIS GAME FROM A BRICK AND MORTAR STORE ONLY! Returning online is a headache and time consuming.

I highly recommend this game, it is very fun, but only buy it from a brick and mortar store like gamestop or EB games. Or rent it from gamefly.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This is the best game out there right now period. the graphics are amazing. they have no cut scenes in the game everything is in game rendered.which is pretty cool first game ive ever seen like this.the whole thing is just done very well very realistic you cant just jump around and hope not to get hit.the online multiplayer is just as amazing with 4 game types and plenty of maps you can play for a long time and not get bored.overall this game is by far the best game.

GOW lives up to the hype

I purchased the Collector's Edition and found it to be well worth the $10 premium. The only drawback to the CE is that the tin case doesn't fit on a standard DVD rack (it's double wide) and that's nitpicking. The bonus DVD has some interesting material and the book sheds light on Sera's history and the locust enemies that you will fight. The game itself is a masterpiece. Yes, the regular offline campaign is pretty short (Roughly six hours, I would guess). Yes, there are some limits to the types of multiplayer games that you can play....rest assured, EVERYTHING that GOW aims to do, it does very well. This is truly one of the best multiplayer games that I have ever played, dating back to the Atari 2600. The dynamic reload system is a novel idea that comes in handy, and the graphics and sound blow you away. If you have any questions, rent the game first, but if you're a fan of shooters, you will definitely want to buy.

A must have game for the Xbox 360. The AI in the game makes every time you play a new experience. Highly recommend playing it on Xbox Live once you've mastered playing it by yourself. Hardcore and Insane modes are great!

Rarely does a game of this caliber come around that combines both rich visuals and amazingly intuitive and fun game play. While the single player campaign is a little on the short end of the spectrum, the various difficulty levels more than make up for it. Also, the online mode of the game is fantastic.

Definitely one of the best games of the year.
