Amazing game, pretty good bonus content...

I have to say, Gears really does live up to the hype. Everything from the revolutionary cover mechanic to the lancer chainsaw are all perfectly executed. The main campaign is short, but it's so much fun that you won't mind playing through it again, especially with a friend. One thing that really surprised me is that, for a third person shooter, the controls are amazingly tight and comfortable--and this is coming from someone who still plays with an inverted legacy setup (ala Goldeneye).

The extra content for the Collector's Edition is definitely worth the price. The bonus DVD isn't quite up to par with Halo 2 DVD, but it is still interesting. One weird thing about the DVD is that it has this whole pseudo-documentary video presented by the children of Epic's employees. I suppose it's "cute" and all, but I think Epic lost sight of their audience with that one.

Anyway, nitpicking aside, Gears is a fantastic game and the Collector's Edition is definitely the best way to get the full experience.

This game is an outstanding visual full sensory overload that just keeps giving. You have to play it again and again just so you can see all that there is for you to see. This game shows you all that the XBOX 360 has to offer.

This game is rated "M"= Mature. There is a lot of ADULT language, themes and a lot of things that make nightmares!
Playing online exposes the player the real people (even kids) using ADULT language and none stop brutality. Which I really like! The online gaming is pulled off very well and continues the visual onslaught! See and hearing every blood splattering head shoot give you as real a sensation as possible. When you see the blood splatter in the screen you almost want to check your face for splatter.
The online maps are not as big as some of them should be. You are limited in the directions that you can take to get to an objective. But man the action never stops!

Excelent game, addictive, funny. It is much better with a buddy, headset and mic. In fact, the last boss it's almost impossible to kill without a partner. It's a shame it's to short. With a buddy you can complete each Act (Hardcore difficulty) in less than two hours. Multiplayer adds replayability. The sniper rifle is the coolest weapon.

Great game play, esp co-op play is great with a friend. Its very original in this sense and one of the more realistic games I have ever played on many levels.

Graphics are superb++.

Game world is really cool.

Characters are cool and well designed.

Story is not as epic as your lead to believe in comercials. The dialog between characters is good during game play and adds a nice touch. Feels like you would expect if you were in this world for real with your friends. From that aspect they must have had some decent writers, but they should really have used them a little more for improvements on the over all story given that it was marketed as some kind of Epic adventure. (ha, pun.. Epic.. get it. HA.. ehh) Anyway Sidney Lumet once said: "That particular story could've happened to many different kinds of people. In drama, the characters should determine the story. In melodrama, the story determines the characters."

I would not say that this feels at all like Melodrama in the classic sense, but I do feel that the characters did not drive the story. One could say that the world would have shaped these characters, but that is not explored or really demonstrated either.

Still its easy to be critical of someone elses work and over all this is a spectacular game. To illistrate this point note that I beat the game when I borrowed it from a friend, and THEN bought my own copy because I liked it so much and knew I would play it more esp in co-op mode which is a blast.

The game is well deserving of the hype that many magazines and players are giving it. Great graphics, responsive controls and great action make this a great time waster!

You know how in most shooters you can run around and shoot everything that moves while grabbing a health pack here or there to say alive? If you try that with Gears of War, you'll be dead before the tutorial is over. Gears requires a careful use of cover and flanking tactics while you judiciously conserve your ammo. The graphics are very, very nice. This is the type of game that you bought that Hi-Def television for. I would place this game on a very, very short list of must-own games for Xbox 360 owners. My only regret is that I don't have enough time to really sit down and enjoy this game as often as I wish I could. I think my favorite part of the game is the sense of history and culture that's been ruined by war. There's no running through blank space station tunnels. Rather you fight through cities that were clearly glorious in their day, but the toils of war has reduced all of them to rubble that gamely tries to hold onto its former greatness. If you have a 360, you owe it to yourself to buy this game.

More like third person shooter + aim. Still a great game, awesome graphics. The ability to take cover behind things is quite useful, WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS REVIEW, JUST BUY IT ALREADY. Seriously, you won't regret it.
