This game rocks!

I got this game for Christmas. I really wanted it bad! I was not disappointed after I got it. I like playing this alot. My brother A.J. plays with me at this game. I am 5. We take turns playing the game. He has competed the game. I am still trying. I beat the snake one time before. I think you should buy this game no matter how much it costs. You will have lots of fun playing it.

More of a Must Rent rather than a Must buy

After the first horrid harry potter game, i decided to rent this little title before plunking down [$$] of my hard earned cash.

I'm glad i did. HP, while a fabulous rent, would be a disgraceful purchase. The game is too dang short for it's own good. There is no replay value, unless you want to collect all the wizard cards.

The graphics, while stunning, drop in framerate especially around dumbledor's office. There are loading times in this game though, for every...room. They last around 20 sec. but it just gets annoying.

The sound was ok. Really I can't say anything else about it. I wasn't humming it but i didn't have to turn down the tv. Its just...average,

The puzzles are hard to the point of fustration, so you might need a guide off of gamefaqs to help you along in tough spots. *Cough* Aragog/Avicors challenge *Cough*.

The Quidditch engine has been improved alot over the First Computer HP. You fly through rings, gaining speed untill you have enough to "boost" with the b button, to land your self in the area of the snitch. Harry will put his hand out, and swipe it down if you press a. Catching the Snitch is a lot harder than it sounds. And yes, the other team CAN win. Great improvement over the choppy first engine.

One new concept the game introduces is dueling. This is an Extremely enjoyable part of the game. You stand across from your opponent and try to hit him numerous times while reflecting/doging/falling down from his attacks. It is Great fun. Unfortuantly, you duel twice, only twice. Still something EA finaly got right.

This game would have gotten 4'stars if the People at EA would have added two more things in the start up menu: Quiditch cup, where you could play in a tournament for the Quidditch cup, versing all the houses, and Deuling tournement, where you could play a tournament of dueling, advancing through the ranks after beating each challenger. Not only would these edditions give the game actual replay value, but give the game a multiplayer feature, via split screen. Imagine, dueling with your friend, or playing 4 player quidditch, where you could chose to be the seeker, chaser, beater, or keeper for the quidditch cup. Perhaps next time Ea will finally get this vital part of a game right, i mean they do have 5 more tries...

All in all, HPCoS is still a must rent. It is unbeilevably fun the first time around and deserves a...rental.

There you have it my view of this game. Cheers!

could use improvement, but not bad

you have to give the creators of this game some credit for doing an ok job with a game so tough to create- almost the entire population of people playing it know the general storyline, if not every nuance, of hp&tcos. it isn't particularly challenging, but the graphics are a treat. i beat the game in a few weeks but i still continue to enjoy it. in the game you are allowed to fly around the grounds on your broom. the graphics during these flights are amazing, i really feel as if i'm flying, and it's a good way to earn burtie bott's beans. another plus is that after you beat the game you can still roam around the castle and find hidden wizard cards to try and complete your collection. my brother and i are having a competition and so far we've discovered 3 secret passageways and loads of cool stuff.
~the negative bits~
*the movies used in the game to explain the plot are very bland and boring, and there is no way to skip through them. in the unlikely event you get stuck on a challenge you have to watch them over and over. game? more like torture.
*you have to go to certain spots in the world to save your game. i suppose this makes it easier for the game to keep track than if it were in the menu, but it gets really annoying.
*if you plan on saving more than one game use a separate memory card. when my brother started the second game he had to pass the same challenge 13 times before he could get past a certain trouble spot where the game gave him an error
if, like me, you enjoy running around video games just for the heck of it, exploring the scenery and the like, and you're a harry potter fan, you will enjoy this game. it is rich in details and the graphics are stunning, especially when flying. if you're looking for a challenging, intirguing game or you can't stand harry potter, stay far away.

Very average and VERY easy! I only played for the Quidditch!

If you are considering visiting Hogwarts for the second time, you might want to think twice. I rented the game for three days and conquered it on the second, and I'm not a hard core gamer. The game has some fun parts such as gnome tossing and Quidditch, but the game just isn't what appeals to a large crowd. Many times during this game I just wanted to live the Harry Potter lifestyle instead of every day conquer a new mission and get another lowsy spellbook. The bosses are ridiculiously easy. If you have ever played a consul in your life it shouldn't take you more than three times. Unfortunately, the Basilisk is the easiest. The only reason you will keep playing is for the Quidditch. If you get frusterated, go on a broom ride!

i like it.

So i've been playing this game for like 3 or 4 days now. I've got to the part where i have to get the hogwarts a history book. So i think somewhere around day 3. I'm told from the other reviews that there are only 6 days in the whole game, and that's not good...makes it less of a challenge. Would be nice if the game was really the length of a school year. With use of a memory card, there is no reason why the game can't be that long and you just save and continue.

I'm 24, and definitely not a gamer, but i find the game challenging, however i know 7 year olds who could beat me easily in video games.

As for those people who said the game was too short: well if it's only 6 days, that means i'm almost halfway through it, so yes, it's short.

As for, not hard enough: "beat the game in three hours" people: A. this game is for kids, the target audience for harry potter is age 7-12. Although older kids and adults such as myself enjoy it, the game has to be something younger kids can play. It's ideal for me as an adult though since i'm a beginner when it comes to video games.

As for those though that say they beat the game in three hours, i have to say that you have way too much time on your hands and spend too much time in front of the video games. Go take a walk, get some fresh air, read a book, go hang out with the three dimensional people. THe only way you can beat that game in three hours your first try, is if all you do with your time is play video games, and if that's your life, i'm very sad for you.

A good game

This game is fun, but easy. If you want a long, challenging game to last for a month, don't buy this. You can probably beat it in a week at most. Here's what I think:

Graphics: 5/5. It has crisp, colorful graphics. Everything you see on the screen is actually THERE, you can't go through anything.

Controls: 4/5. The controls are fairly easy to handle. Sometimes the spell won't go where you want it to, or the camera goes wacko, but you won't have any trouble. Except one problem is jumping. There is no button to jump, you just run up to an edge and Harry jumps automatically. This is sometimes annoying because Harry will just go sailing when you even get close to an edge.

Gameplay: 4.5/5. The game is pretty linear so you mostly have only one goal at a time, so it's clear what you have to do. The bosses are all pretty easy, once you figure out how to defeat them, which isn't at all hard either. Some of the Spell Challenges and Quidditch Matches are kind of challenging though. I liked that you could fly anywhere around outside once you received your Nimbus 2000. With Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans you can buy stuff at Fred and George's shop.

Memory: Doesn't take too much space, only 5 blocks.

Sound: 5/5. Great sound effects, and the voices match up with the characters' mouths.

Replay Value: 4/5. The game is fun to play again, and fun to find all the Lost and Found items and Wizard Cards.

Humor: 4/5. The game is pretty funny. The spells can backfire on Harry, like Incendio will set his robes on fire, and Diffindo will tear them to shreds. The Beans you get can be flavored like boogers and phlegm. The Wizard Cards have funny people. The characters say funny lines every once in a while too.

One more thing: The game does NOT follow the book or movie storylines. A few things are in common, but mostly it is a different story. I didn't care, but somebody might, so I'm just telling you.

Overall I give it 4 stars. A great game for beginners.

I am a huge Harry Potter Buff, and I thought i should own the game. It got great reviews on IGN and other places. The only concern I had with it is whether it would be challenging for me or not. However so far, it has been quite challenging. It's not as hard as some games, but offers a respectable degree of dificulty and especially satisfies the Harry Potter in me. The graphics are excellent, the game play is good, and it follows the book relitively well. THe only reason why I do not give this a 5 is because the camera angles in the game are frustrating. Especially at certain points where the angle shifts so you can't even see Harry!!! At these points you pretty much have to guess what to do next. Other than this, the game is very entertaining. Definitely worth it for any Harry Potter fan.

Surprisingly Fun... but Short

I'll agree with the masses that this is (at last) a surprisingly good "license game." The graphics are pleasing, the gameplay enjoyable and the connection to the book solid. However (and you knew there had to be a "however" in there, didn't you?) the game is extremely short, features some (admittedly rare) exceedingly unintuitive puzzles and deliberately flouts some conventions of the Harry Potter universe. I cannot tell you how many times I almost threw the controller down in disgust when trying to sneak by a cadre of librarians or Slytherin brutes (a la Metal Gear). I suppose this sneak/stealth element of the game could have been put to good use, but it seems absurd to not allow Harry access to his Invisibility Cloak.

Ultimately the game features enough of the Harry Potter world to make it entertaining, but it could have been much, much more. Here's hoping EA Games can make another quantum leap in quality when the next movie/game combo is released.
