Fun, but Violent

Here's a review from someone who has played the game extensively, as opposed to other reviewers who have rated it prior to actually trying it out.

Being a seasoned gamer, I must say that this is by far one of the most enjoyable platformers ever. There are tons of challenges integrated into the game, such as racing, arena battles in which you'll battle aliens for bolts/cash, space missions where you'll save space energy generators from sabateurs, and much more. The weapons are awesome, and better yet, upgradeable. Use them enough, and they'll become more powerful. Or, purchase a modual to make weapon projectiles dose boiling acid on or shock enemies for additional damage. The old weapons from Ratchet 1 and included, too.

My recommendation is to not purchase this game for anyone under the age of 13 (heed the Teen rating). While the characters may be cute, gunfights can be a bit too overwhelming for the younger crowd.

Fun!

Ratchet and Clank have returned, and this time they're going commando. Mr. Fizwedget, the leader of Megacorp aka Qwark, who pretends to be nice, orders Ratchet and Clank to find an experiment that the "unknown" thief [it's a girl!] has stolen. The adventure put into this game is incredible. It is really long, and has a lot replay value. The weapons are really good, and my favorite is the upgraded pulse rifle, and the box breaker wrench. There are plenty of weapons including the Lancer, Gravity Bomb, Minirocket Tube, Sheepinator, and Plasma coil. This game includes everything from hoverbiking to action-packed arena delights. The game also includes alpha-clank battles, and plenty of firepower, and ship battles. It is better than every single Ratchet game, including the fourth one. Here is how I would rate it:

Gameplay: 10/10 - From the extreme hoverbike races to the extreme combat, to the cool ship battles to the alpha clank levels, this game is sick. And simply the foot missions, every aspect of the game is lovely.

Controls: 8.9/10 - The controls are good, and the quick select menu is very helpful.

Sound: 9.8/10 - The sound effects are awesome, and the music is delightful and enjoyable.

Storyline: 10/10 - The story is perfect. It is mysterious, and has good twists. Mr. Fizwedget is evil!

Graphics: 9.0/10 - There was a lot of detail put into this game, everything you can see. And Ratchet looks great.

Lasting Appeal: 10/10 - An extremely long single-player adventure, plus a lot of replay value, this game won't be sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

Overall: 9.5/10 - This is definitely the best game out of all of them, and also the longest. If there was one thing that was to be improved about this game, that would be a little more hard, but who cares.

Best game of the year...

The only thing I don't like about this game is the fact that I'll be finished with it soon and have to wait another year or two for Ratchet and Clank 3.

Excellent, but VERY violent

Just like the first R&C, this is an AWESOME game. I would not, however, buy this for young children. This game has intense gun fights and battle strategy, and I don't care how "cartoon-like" it is, parts of it are EXTREMELY violent. Very fun for people old enough to deal with it, though! Definitely a great follow up to the original... I hope they make #3 so I can keep playing!

Ratchet 1 1/2

I enjoyed the first one and agree that this one is good, I only wish it was more different from the original, it feels like I have played this before. It is similar in almost every way, graphics, gameplay, design. There is a very good character building system in the game but this is only a band-aid for lack of new features. If you don't own the first buy this one, otherwise pass.

An incredibly fun and exciting sequel.

Last year an incredible game was released and now it has a sequel which seems a bit more like an improvement over the last game's slight flaws. What I mean by that is the fact that even though this is an amazing game and awesome sequel it's still genarally the same game with major improvements but you can't really judge a game much from it's previous ones so in total this is still an incredible game.

The game is of course a platformer and third-person shooter and does great on both and also has some fun puzzles to go with it.

This game really fixes the minor setbacks of the last game.
In the previous game you could simply skip ahead of most of the enemies with no problem but now there's now a leveling up system where for each enemy you defeat you get an amount of experiance(or "Nanomites" as the game calls it)when you get enough experiance to fill up you're experiance meter you're maximum health(or "Nanotech" as the game calls health)goes up which makes a point to destroying all you're enemies.
The same kind of thing goes with you're weapons too, whenever you use a certain weapon against an enemy that weapon also gains nanomites and when the weapon's expiriance meter gets full it upgrades into a much more powerful weapon so unlike the first game when if some weapon isn't useful you just don't use it so now there's a point to using even you're weak weapons.

And the game has an amazingly hilarious sense of humor as well.
The game also improved the diffuculty by making it quite longer than the first and improving the enemy inteligence so it has quite some challenge as well.
So all-in-all this is a fantastic game than can appeal to many many platforming and third-person shooter fans.

A tweaked R&C that's just as fun

I had my doubts about a sequel to one of the greatest platformers of all time, especially with the turnaround time being only a year since the last. But that doubt was quelled instantaneously upon viewing the improved visuals and hilarious cutscenes, and that's before I even got into the gameplay.

Apparently, someone subliminaly heard my complaints about the first R&C and fixed the small problems. Now when you switch weapons, the game pauses (Thank you!) and there aren't nearly as many ridiculously long stretches of narrow platform plus the magnetic boots aren't as restricting. Everything great about the first game is improved upon. There are more weapons, more diverse worlds with quirky and well thought out boards and enemies, and more ways to upgrade. The varied modes are nice too, ranging from space battles, races, arena battles and hang gliding (Though I could have done without that last one). The cutscenes are hilarious and the story is even better than the first game, a rarity in sequels.

I don't know if I'd complain about anything, though the second run-through can get mind-numbingly tedious when you need to hit an enemy three times as much.

There aren't any major complaints and it's extremely fun and well designed. It's hard to believe it but in only a year's time, Insomniac has created a game even better than the first. Considering the high praise I gave R&C 1, that's saying something.

A Perfect Game.

This is a perfect game. Perfect graphics. Perfect plot. Perfect control. Perfectly FUN! This is what all "3D-platform" type games should be. I dearly miss side-scrollers, and I hate 3-D interpretations of side-scrollers, but THIS is what all 3-d platformers should be.
I played and won the first installment of Ratchet and Clank. I wasn't to keen on getting it, but a friend of mine was crazy about it and so I bought it. Loved it. Loved this one too.
This game is a no-brainer buy for the PS2.

It's Cartoon Warfare and Adventure at it's Finest!

Violent, who cares, isn't that what Rachet and Clank is all about? This is a great game for anyone who likes warfare, shooting, and most of all...RACHET & CLANK (of Course).

Also, what's with all these people who are saying it's just like the first, yeah maybe... the main characters...haha. There is almost nothing the same between Going Commando and the original Rachet and Clank. Going Commando has a better storyline and just all around better gaming. Not to mention it's great to just run around and blow up the little furballs with weapons like the plasm blaster or the Blaster Cannon.

The game is so great, you start out being hired by some guy, and then you come to find out this guy, Mr. Fizzwidget, is actually bad. This game is very long (well worth the money) and if there was anything higher than a 5 tis game would deserve it.

Here's a breakdown of the 4 basic elements to any video game

Graphics-10/10

Gameplay-12/10 Simple, but loads of fun

Fun- 15/10 Getting to run around and blast those furry little pets, or robots...It doesn't get any better.

Difficulty- 15/10 From fighting huge Furballs to battling in the Gobe Desert, it's a real challenge.

Overall- 52/40 Excellent game, Worth every penny and just overall fun to play. with infinate replay value and a long game, this is deffinately a best buy.

In the end this game is WAY above average, there are only a handful of games that come withing MILES of this game.

All in all, Insanely great Job Sony, you've made a GREAT game. BUY this game, you HAVE TO try out this game.

platforming brilliance.

if only every platform game tried to stretch out its wings as far as insomniac did creating going commando our lives wouldent be able to concentrate on any other thing. this game is perfect it has characthers i like very much and im sure you will too. rachet and clank have big personalitys and there not annoying like jak and daxter. jak being a stiff superheroe wannabe who never talks. and then theres that little rat daxter who never stops talking. anyway going commando has lots to do big opstacles guns weapons and can all be upgraded. you can even buy diffrent uniforms for rachet. also youll run into really fun stuff fight several big bosses in the battle arena. or rally around in a hoverbike space race competion. gameplay is solid challenging and entertaining. and never got tedious repetitive por unfair. the music in the game is very good. in fact its good enough you might even put the contrpl down and listen for a while. solid sound which is most cerainly not the case with most platformers. the entire thing was well executed and never annoying which is one thing most platform games cant say. overall entertaining solid perfectly executed game. and i encourage you to get it. its got so many weapons. and it creates an expereince like no other. so many platformer game designers wish they could put toghether a game like this.
