For those of you looking into the archives of noteworthy games you may have missed for the PS2, Ratchet & Clank Going Commando is a game that must be played. Ninja Gaiden for the XBOX is my personal favorite for all time best action/platforming game. God of War is a close second. R & C GC is the kid-friendly equivalent. My four year old is totally hooked and I can't stop playing it either. That's not saying that this game is easy. On the contrary, there are some parts that are just plain unforgiving and quite challenging even for a seasoned gamer. It just has terrific production values. There are hidden themes that only adults will pick up on (the Title for instance). It very Shrek-like, in that manner.

Pros:
·The greatest plethora of weapons for any video game I have ever played, and we are not just talking quantity here. There are some great RPG-like elements utilized to upgrade weapon functionality. Many of the weapons are original in design and very fun to use.
·Platforming elements are superbly designed
·Expertly designed levels and there are plenty of them. Attention to detail and interactive environments shows that a lot of time went into the development of this production.
·Tight controls. The full realization of the PS2 controller is almost "Metal Gear Solid 3" good for those of you who know what I am talking about.
·Graphics are well done.
·The story won't win a Pulitzer, but both of my young children enjoyed it.
·Longevity is excellent as there are plenty of secrets to reveal and playing it a second time in challenge mode allows you to further upgrade those awesome weapons on a harder set of enemy characters. It's like playing a different game the second time through.
·Excellent musical score, voice-acting, environmental and weapons sounds.

Cons:
·There are really none. The only one that bothers me a little bit, and I am really reaching here, is that I didn't notice any significant improvement in graphical quality in Progressive mode.

If you missed playing this game a few years ago, go purchase this right now without hesitation. For those of you with children, I especially recommend playing this game with them.

This is Good!

R&C Going Commando is everything a video game should be. Blend of terrific graphics, good humor (somewhat black, which makes it even better), and varied challenges. Lots of variety sure to keep anyone engaged to the very end, and then lots of extra challenges to encourage playing the game over again once you're done the first time. Lots of game play for your buck, especially now that the price has come down.

Just as much fun the second time around.

I'm not sure why any reviewer would say this game has no replay value: when I finished it the first time, I immediately went into the game's replay mode, which allows you to go through the entire storyline again, but with all the weapons and upgrades you acquired through the first campaign. The enemies are tougher, the rewards are greater, and the challenge increases as the player plays to beat his own best scores, not the game.

In the first Ratchet & Clank, the replay mode was similar, but the rewards were higher: crates had more bolts in them, enemies were worth more, etc. In Going Commando, the second playthrough introduces a bolt multiplier: the longer you go without taking a hit from an enemy, the higher the multiplier goes (upper limit of x20). This means that the better you play the game the second time through, the faster you'll accumulate bolts, and the sooner you can buy those REALLY big-deal weapons (RYNO II, Zodiac, Mega Mini Nuke).

About a year ago, I wrote a review of the original game, which I loved but still haven't beaten completely by myself. I'm pleased to say that with Going Commando, I've finally come across an Insomniac platformer that I can beat without any help, and the best thing is, that's not because it's easy--it's because I've gotten better.

I don't know if this is the case, but the worlds in Going Commando feel smaller to me. Maybe it's because there are more of them, and several of them have smaller worlds orbiting them where you go to play some specialized "planetoid" missions. The story is just as entertaining as the original R&C, but ultimately isn't as fulfilling...unlike the first game, I was actually surprised when the game was over. In the first one, when you hit the final boss, you know he's the final boss, because that's the way the story's been set up. In Going Commando, the final boss didn't really feel final to me. I found that somewhat disappointing, because the boss battles in the first game had a feeling of achievement to them--like you'd gotten past an important obstacle.

But that's really a nit-pick, and the only impact it has is to make Going Commando slightly less tight, story-wise, than the original. The introduction of new weapons, new challenges, upgrade capabilities, armor, space-ship modifications, etc., more than make up for the flaws in the story.

For those who haven't played the first one, you won't miss anything by playing this one, first. There is one "given" in Going Commando that spoils a small surprise in the first game, but apart from that, there's nothing to prevent you from playing this one. However, I recommend playing the original first, because the look, feel and gameplay are virtually the same, and you can get it as a Greatest Hits title. Just know that when you finish Ratchet & Clank (and have maybe pounded it into the ground the way I did), there's another game that's just as good, just a zany, just as inspired, and just as challenging out there waiting for you, and if you take up the challenge, you won't regret Going Commando.

It is 10 times better than the first rachet and Clank

I own the first Rachet and Clank game and it is one of my faves. When i saw the winter jampack with Rachet and clank going commando on the front i essentially bought it. When i got home and played it i discovered it was way better than the first game. All the weapons are new but way cooler and for all you violence concious parents dont worry because all that you shoot are robots and they only turn into nuts and bolts when you deystroy them. If you are looking for a great platformer then you should buy this.

It just keeps getting better!

When the first R&C came out, I was so excited because ps2 had finally came out with a new game. So i bought it and it turned out to be the greatest game i had ever played. When i finally beat it i was very disappointed. I hoped that they would come out with a new one. well now my dream came true. R&C are back and ready for action in this new action packed game. I'm sure yuo will be surprised with this new hit for the ps2.With 24 different levels and over 40 new weaponsyou'll be trapped in a world of explosions and more....

Best Video Game Ever, since 1994, when I was 2.

I started playing Video games at about 3, but had them before that. !. Sega Genesis 2. Computer 3. PS2 4. Gamecube 5. Xbox. Plus GBC.

R&C:GC has everything. The sound is perfect. Nice not anoying music. Funny dialogue, and it's clear. Graphics are some of the best I've seen.

Okay, I have the first game too. In #2 you have a bunch of guns and bombs, and you kill robots with your guns and bombs, and your handy wrench. Clank is also helpful. You can buy weapons by getting nuts and bolts. Like money. You get them buy blowing up opponents. You also travel from planet to planet completing missions. A new addition though is the map. You can see a map anytime!! Plus you have more lives, a little easier gameplay and nanotech. Nanotech is a bar you fill up. When the bar fills up all enemies around you are gone. You get nanotech by playing well.
You also get an advaNTAGE IF YOU have played or have a save of the first game. You can get free weapons and know how to play.
R&C is in a futuristic world. Hope you get it. It's only $40.

This game deserves what it is rated although I think it should get one half more because the weapons are incredible and awsome this game is great. The down side is that you are not allowed to ride your hover bike outside of a race.I highly enjoy this game.

If you liked the first Ratchet and Clank game for PS2 then you are going to love this one. The weapons and gadgets are bigger and better. Sure it may take sometime to get bolts to buy them all but thats have the challange. Not to mention they will come in handy when you really need them. There is plenty of other things to do in this game like the hoverbike races or the cage matches (great for earning bolts) and even the challanges when you are riding in your ship. Defintely in my top 2 favorite games if not my favorite.

rachet and clank going commando is excellent. it features explosive weapons enormus boss challenges huge beautifal worlds with some of the nicest ps2 graphics youll ever see. this game features so many sharp gagets and weapons its unberlivable. plus if you saved your first game with weapons you can get weapons from the original in going commando. theres 50 cool looking weapons and gagets all can be purchased at the main entrance gagetron stand after youve collected enough bolts. the weapons are bigger and better the second time around youll enjoy every second using them. big guns big explosions big fun. not only that how bout the extras in the 3rd level youll come across a battlearena you can fight enormus bosses for huge prizes which are generally a gigantic amount of bolts. and dont expect one hit enemys youll be facing big strong enemys that youll have to fight to the finish with one of your various weapons. graphics are excellent better than the first theyve been rreasonobaly polished along with the animations. the music is good and theres all new puzzles mini games challenges and cut scenes. this game is way better than the first primarly because its focused on big challenges and action. but dont worry its not insanely hard like jak ii. im not even a good gamer and i beat some of the challenges. overall great game game of the year and if youre a rachet and clank fan or a fan of action its more tham worth every penny it costs.

5 stars.

When the first Ratchet and Clank came out I was totally blown away. The engaging characters, the addictive gameplay, the imaginative settings, the amazing graphics. It was as though a whole new universe of fun had been created.

This game repeats the glories of the first R&C, and then some. Another big corporation has threatened to take control of everything, so it's up to our two heroes to make their way through a whole universe of planets. There's so much to see and do, so many sub-games and atmospheric worlds to explore. Add to that a whole load of dramatic tunes and hilarious cartoon sequences and you have one of the greatest platform games ever made.
