Much Better than the First Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

I know that I never expect a sequel to a game to be just as fun as the first and along the way having more things to do while playing the sequel to a high profile game such as Ratchet & Clank. Insomniac took the first game and made into a huge success but when they started work they decided to put in RPG elements such as being able to take more damage along with upgrading weapons. With those elements along with making the game longer than that of the first game it makes this game much more enjoyable from the first game but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try the first game if you happen to pick up this game first like I did. Like I said if you picked this one up before you got the first one you may think that that the first game wouldn't be good since it doesn't have some things like this one does but if you get the first game you'll be able to get a few things from the first game in this one.

R&C 1 times 10

after 1 level of the first R&C i was HOOKED! but this sequel is 10 times better.

first off, it's harder, MUCH harder. which is good since the first one went by too fast for me. with all of the missions plus the side games it could go on as long as you want to keep fighting tournaments and finding "moonstones". plus some levels are nothing but spaceship dog-fighting which is something i wanted more of from the first one. plus you can even upgrade your ship with everything from new rockets to new wings and even new paint jobs.

for those that have played the first one, going commando has the same option at the end to go back to before the defeat of the final boss or re-play the game. if you re-play in this game it goes to challenge mode where you get tons more bolts and the enemies are harder to kill. also, if you thought the first RYNO was expensive, you'll see that it doesn't hold a candle to going commando after seeing the price tags on some of the new weapons and armor.

sure, it's plot isn't as deep as the first or something like final fantasy, but that's because this ISN'T final fantasy. you want plot? spend the monthly waste of money on everquest and make your own plot.

besides, it more worth listening to the plot points for jokes than to try and find some amazingly profound sense of being to this game.

basically, if you love R&C1, you'll LOVE going commando.

i hope that R&C3 (up your arsenal) is even better than R&C 1&2 combined.

I played it forever!!

This game was the most exciting one I ever played. The weapons were awesome and the explosions looked cool. Compared to the first, third and fourth games this one is the best! The way you could upgrade your weapons was the best part.

Miust have for PS2 owners

If you shell out 29 bucks for this game I guarantee you won't be dissapointed. This game has everything. The weapons are magnificent, the dialogue is simply hilarious, the plot is funny and worth paying attention to. The lck of multiplayer is a diassapointment but they make up for that in 3 and 4.

The plot is, you and your robot buddy (who rides on your back) must save the world from the evil protopets. These protopets may look fuzzy and nice but they really eat people. You must span the galaxy trying to destroy them. Until a final show down with one huge protopet.

You don't think you have to do this bare handed do you? You have a fully upgradeable arsenal of over 20 weapons and gadgets ranging from skate-like grind boots, to a lava gun, to the all powerful RYNO 2. Almost all the weapons can be udgraded through constant use and change into a more powerful weapon.

Bolts are the currency in Ratchet and Clank. Bolts are used to buy Weapons and armor from vendors around the galaxy. Bolts are obtained through destroying enemies or from beaking sceneary and boxes with your ever present wrench. The wrench is a mellee wepon that you have from the start but is upgraded automatically throughout the course of the game. Platinum Bolts are bolts that are found in various places in the game. They can be used to purchase mods for certain weapons witch put even more power at your disposal.

There are some minigames that are used throughout the game such as the hover bike racing and the giant clank robot fights, also some space ship combat games and arena stly fighting, all of witch can earn you bolts or special items essential to your success.

When you beat the game once, you have the option to play again in Challenge mode. This mode has more challenging enemies but you can keep all your weapons from the first time round. Also a bolt multiplier is given to you and that allows you to get more bolts the higher it is. You increase the meter by killing enemies and keep it high by not getting hit. You can continue to play Challenge mode over and over adding an infinite amount of replay.

Skill Point are another fun bit thrown into the game. by completing certain tasks in the game you receive a skill point. You aren't told exactly what you need to do but there is a hint in the name of each point and you are told what world its on. It's fun to try to figure out the points yourself but eventually it's easier just to look them up online.

For those of you who played the first game and were frustrated with the difficulty in getting bolts and the contant death that came from only having 4 health balls, you'll be very pleased with Going Commando. The bolts are much easier to obtain and come in greater quantities. The health meter upgrades as you kill enemies. You start with 4 circles with 4 hits each but as you kill enemies you gain health.

If your looking for a game that lets you shoot up robots with lava guns or turn them into sheep using the Sheepinator or want a game that you can play and beat once but it's still worth playing again andagin Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando is the game for you. Plus it's only rated T and is really cheap.

I like this game because you have all new moves and guns. There are all new villains and levels to beat. There are also new mini games to beat. They are awesome. Especially the ones where you try to keep the ball moving. So don't get other Ratchet and Clank games, get this one.

GREAT SEQUEL, BUT HIGHER LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY

I can't say it any other way. What a kick a** sequel. Our favorite heroes are back with new sights, new sounds and those very special new weapons.
Unfortunately I have to be fair about this review. So I'll make a list and call it "the good, the bad and the ugly".
First the good:
1. Colors: bright, crisp and easy on the eyes.
2. Sounds (including effects): different, clever.
3. Enemies: also clever and very odd
4. Weapons: what can I say, I love the "bouncer", the "chopper", the "seeker gun", and even the "sheepinator"
5. Upgrades: getting an upgrade on the weapons is easier than ever. All you have to do is consistanly use the weapon and you get a more powerful version on the predecessor. Getting a life upgrade is also easy, all you have to do is destroy a lot of enemies.
6. The bolts: now the bolts are gold in color and multiplied. What I mean is if you see 5 bolts, they are multiplied (instead of getting 5 you may wind up with 25 or more).
7. The thermonator is pretty cool. It can either freeze water or melt ice (certain areas of water can be affected).
There are some bad things:
1. The difficulty level has been increased. It maybe because this is new to me but it seems harder to beat a level.
2. Wasting ammo: You never quite know which weapon to use to be the most effective. You could fire your weapon at something and it might have to take several X several shots to destroy it.
3. The glider is a good and fun tool but I found it to be a hinderance on some levels. It is hard to control and can easily smack into something.
4. The use of the Platinum bolts: like the gold bolts, the new ones are just a hard to get a hold. They are easier to find but just as hard capturing. They are not used for upgrades, perse.
Now the ugly
1. Electolyzer: to get to some levels, you will have to solve an electronic puzzle that can be a pain... With this device you have to navigate an electronic map with dots of light. You must get the dots in the turrets to advance.
2. The Infiltrator: this is another pain in the...way of getting something. You activate it and you have to connect the lines on a globe before time runs out.
3. The speed bike races are seriously difficult. Too many distractions and you can easily crash. It is hard to pick up a weapon or a turbo boost. But if you do, you can win the race (not easily).

4. The ugliest of the ugly is what happens when you lose a life. As an example: I am on the Megacorp homeworld (planet Yeedil) and inside the factory. You start out near a vendor and behind the vendor is a long hallway. At the end are several guards in which you have to fight to get past. After wasting a lot of ammo to get by, there is another bridge to your right. After running across you come to a walk-up tower with a few guards surrounding it. AFter defeating them, there is a small batallion of guards across the bridge. After dodging their odd weapons fire and exhausting your own firepower, you come to another walk way with bridges you must activate. Long story short: more difficult enemies to destroy, more ammo wasted, the never ending guards, etc, etc.... I came to another room litered with tanks and too many guards. I back tracked, I took a misstep and Ratchet fell. Now I found myself back near the vendor. I took a deep breath and left the game.
There are other things that are enjoyable. For example, if you saved the game play (and weapons) from the first R&C, you can upload the weapons and use them here.
Interesting characters, very different sets, wonderfully unique weapons, increased difficulty and some characters have returned.
Overall this game could be fun if you had the serious patience to get through it, waste ammo, manage to defeat (seemingly) undefeatable enemies
and not throw your PS2 against the wall.
Good luck.

how ya all doing. i just got rachet and clank going commando and its great. only one problem its way too hard. now im not a hardcore gamer by any means so i wish these rachet and clanlk games could lighten up on there difficulty level. for anyone who is a hardcore gamer or better yet liked the first one. well you will be pleasantly suprized with going commando. the exciting adventure series returns with enormus worlds bigger levels better graphics and more of the shoot em up objectives you enjoyed in the first game. in fact theres over 50 powerful killing machines in this one. including realistic sounding guns gloves wrenchthrowers flamepistols and more. plus the gameplay includes battiling bigger bosses solving a puzzle of green light platforms or even diving off high space buildings. its just the game is way too hard it tends to get ridicolous when youre in a level for 90 whole minutes trying to figure something out. and it frustrates the heck out of you when you fall. hardcore gamers though will be pleased. still a decent platformer in my book despite that gigantic flaw. aqnd by the way wheres the originality i feel like ive played this game already.
