Magical Moments

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 36 / 36
Date: January 19, 2002

This a great game for fans of Harry Potter that dont want the magic of the book or film to end. The game really makes you feel as if you've entered Harry's magical world by closely following the story of the book and film. The experience is like actually "being" Harry Potter in 'The Sorcerers Stone'. The colors are bright, the game areas and characters are large, and the tasks are varried. You get to do everything from talking to characters, learning magical spells, to secretly exploring the castle and collecting magic cards. And of course, you get to play quidditch. The quidditch match is a bit hard to navigate at fist, but you soon get the hange of it and wiz along like a pro.

Anyone from 7 on up can get enjoyment out of this game. The challegnge level increases somewhat as you progress, so even experienced gamers will get into the fun. But really it's all about HP fans getting a taste of the wizzarding world, and in that it suceeds in spades!

A good experience for Potter fans

As one could guess, i love Harry Potter. I've read the books many times over and seen the movie more than i care to admit, so i loved the game. but it isnt for everyone.
1. Music and Effects- got a bit annoying after awhile, and some of the sounds-Malfoy's laugh, Gnomes biting you-will cause you to mute your gameboy. Harry's British accent when he says the spells is nice tho.
2. Graphics- standard 2D, but the backrounds look like photographs which are nice, and the graphics are better than Gameboy Colour's version Harry's running is fluid, for the most part.
3. Playability- fun, but can be very frustrating some of the puzzles will lead you to shut off your gameboy in frustration, which isnt good because of the limited save points. but once you master the puzzles, the game can be quite fun and engaging.
4. Controls- these were actually quite nice- easy to figure out and straight-forward.
5. Replay value-once you've mastered the puzzles, casting spells and re-doing them can be entertaining, and for a Potter fan the sheer joy of exploring Hogwarts is great.
This game will definitley appeal to Harry fans, and perhaps to some puzzle fans, but I'd recommend renting it if you aren't sure. I adored the game, but if I didn't like Harry Potter so much i dont know if I'd be quite so enthusiastic

Gameplay: bad. Everything else: good.

Gameplay: bad. Everything else: good.

This game attempts to combine a puzzle-game with the Harry Potter storyline, but it doesn't do the job too well.
The gameplay is a little like the classic 'Socoban' (push crates around) with a few added moves (levitate objects, knock-back enemies, fall down holes...). But despite this potential complexity, the puzzles never really get any harder: the whole thing is mostly just too easy. (Worse, where it is not easy, it can be frustrating.)

Depth and replay value are supposed to be provided by 'Pumpkin Pasties' (health power-up) and 'Witches and Wizards' cards (collect them all for a better ending). But since some of the doors to these items only unlock at arbitrary points during the game, searching for them is just not fun.

In the game's favour, the graphics and sound are all excellent, there are plenty of different 'Every-flavour' bean flavours, and the NPCs have plenty of interesting quips.

Overall: if you want a fun game, get the PSX version. If you want a game that is true to the book, get the GBC version. If you want a good puzzle game, this is not it.

Fun Game, Too Challenging...

I am 14 years old and find this game challenging and I have no idea how the creators expect a young child to play this game!

It is filled with puzzles and annoying trolls you have to hit. Plis it's not even as if you can just go fly on your broom. You go from class to class learning spells, to sneaking out and night getting points deducted when a teacher catches you, and finally you can fly on your broom which is immensly hard to steer.

The game is fun though after the frustration factor. The graphics are good and it follows the movie story line well. One piece of advice, when collected worms, have them follow you behind Hagrid for him to collect them!

I got this game the other day and I find it really hard to put down. It has some very frustrating points, for me anyway, because you have to figure out a lot of the moves on your own without directions. You play as Harry and you have to complete different tasks to finish your first year at Hogwarts. This game doesn't rely on lives but you want to save as often as you can so that you do not lose any progress. I found the advance flying setting to be easier to use because it will react like a normal game control should. I'd say this is a good game for the 8 and up crowd, not bad for grownups either.

TONS OF FUN! BETTER THAN I THOUGH!

I just bought this game, and i didn't think it would really be that good. But I liked Potter so I tried it and I loved it. Im very impressed. Good graphics and smooth controls. The challenges are fun and entertaining. Just be sure to have lots of light while you play, because the graphics are on the darker side. BUY THIS GAME!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

I recently got a GBA so I can play this game now; however, when I had my old GBA before it broke, I beat this game twice. I haven't played the other Harry Potter games for GBA yet, but plan to. This game is fun and a good way to pass the time on a car ride somewhere (although there was a long time where I was stuck on the Hagrid's Hut level). I won't be selling this game.

Now, just for fun, click the "yes" button to the proceeding question.

An excellent GBA game

This game is an excellent adventure game. It is full of puzzles that are challenging enough to remain interesting, yet not so hard as to be impossible. The graphics are very good, the controls are simple, and load times are very tolerable. I have only one complaint with this game. Through much of the game, there is a dearth of save points. It is upsetting when you spent an entire car ride working out a puzzle, and then, alas, there is no way to save.

All in all, this is one of the better games for GBA, but for those who play for very short time periods, be prepared to replay several times certain parts of the game.
