Fabulous

This is a fabulous, interesting game. You are able to create characters, giving them physical characteristics as well as personality traits, and then control their lives (for good or for ill). Each sim has wants and needs which must be met in order to keep them happy and healthy. The needs include comfort, energy, social, and fun, while the wants are more specific, such as to fall in love, get a job, or buy a stereo. This game is addictively entertaining (real life more important than game . . . real life more important than game . . . oh, whatever). Alternatively, you can choose to play one of the pre-made scenarios to accomplish a certain task with an existing family. Either way, hopefully you have a lot of free time on your hands . . . because you're going to need it.

more fun than the first sims!

This game is SO MUCH fun. I can play it for hours on end without stopping. This game lets you create a sim from a baby to an adult. Then, give them a wonderful world, or you can destroy their lives. You can build houses with up to 5 stories high AND a basement. You can build a dream home and put it on the internet for others to veiw and download! This is a great game no strings attatched!

AWESOME!

Okay, alot of people have said they love this game and I do too. We have three kids in our family and we can all play. You can create your own neighborhoods and stuff like that to keep the games seperate if you care. Also, it really helps kids with real life. Kids and teens have to do homework and parents have to find jobs. Woo-Hoo's are'nt exactly appropriate if you know what it is but it is totally covered so I don't see why kids wouldn't get the game because of that. You don't have to choose that option anyway. This is a really fun game that you can play for hours. I hope this was helpful.

Best Game Eva!!!

When i first heard that Maxis/Ea Games were goin to be releasing the Sims 2, i was sooooooo looking farward to the release. It was about 5 months before it was going to be released. And when it did i was the first one in my local shop to buy it!!! After playing it i found it was AMAZING!!!!! So good that after playing it i knew i would never be able to go back and play the original Sims ever again. People say that there ae glitches with the game but i have to say that i can't relate. My game runs smoothly and is super-fast. I have also now bought the new university Expansion pack, but i never got bored of the sims 2 and if i hadn't bought the expansion pack i would still play the sims 2 anyway cuz its an Amazing game.

Odd how the term "Review" apparently also means Preview

Anyway, we've waited for this and we wont be dissappionted... not long now... even less time now.
It's interesting how many 'reviews' there are for something that isn't even out, or been played yet (mine included)
Even less time now, just keeping thinking that...

DON'T BOTHER UNLESS....

The game looks great, is great, is up to the high standards of a Sims game, but if your computer is 6 months old, don't bother - this will hardly work or play, or if you are lucky and can get it to play, it will run slower than a slug. Otherwise, enjoy!!!

Works fine on a new system

After all the reviews talking about the problems people had getting Sims 2 to work at all, I was hesitant to buy it. However, after talking with people who were using it with no troubles, I decided to give it a try.

I bought the DVD version, and had no trouble installing it. I'm using a laptop with an Athlon 3200+, 512 MB of RAM, and an Nvidia Geforce 440 Go video card, which has 64MB of dedicated video memory. The game looks great on my 15.4" BrightView widescreen, with very sharp images and smooth gameplay. So far I've used the trackpad but a wireless mouse might be better for more precise control.

The game itself is a big step up from the original Sims. There's a lot more to do, they look more realistic, and I like the new music and language (the music in the original would get on my nerves after a few hours of play). The tutorial is better, too.

The game does take a while to load, but I don't think it's any longer than the original. My Sims seem to have more autonomy than in the original: they'll take a shower or eat without me telling them to, and sometimes will even wash the dishes all on their own. As many other reviewers have written, if you liked the original Sims, you will love Sims 2!

Anyway, I mainly wanted to reassure other potential buyers that you do not need a high-end PC to run this game, but you do need a reasonable amount of RAM and a supported video card.

Good Game

I bought this in December and I really like this game. EA has really improved this game from the Sims and other Sims games. Yesterday, March 1st, 2005, the new The Sims University Expansion Pack came out and I just got it. It's so cool and you should no doubt buy it when you buy this game. The Sims is a really fun game because you can control the characters. You can build a family, buy a house, and guide your sim through it's life. My favorite town is Pleasantville but people have their own choices. If you get cheats you can have 50,000 simoleons and if you keep doing that cheat you can have loads of money! So if you just started out with only like 3,000 simoleons do the cheat and your family will be rich! Another thing I like about this game is that you can travel outside in a taxi. It's really cool and you can go anywhere you want. The graphics are very good especially for a computer. Well that's my only problem. I wish this game was on PlayStation 2 or Xbox also because I don't like playing it on the computer since it heats up too fast (usually on laptops). You should no doubtfully look into this game and buy the new expansion pack with it.

50/50 chance you'll be able to play it.

EA and Maxis have relased a game that is full of crashes, bugs, errors, instalation problems, driver issues & graphic problems. And I'm experiencing every one! My roomate who builds computer systems for people has spent over 50 man hours walking though my system and OS! My new game system exceeds all specs and runs all other programs on XP flawlessly. It runs Doom3 & Half Life2 smoothly.
Online fourms are full of gamers who are unable to play this game! Check it out for yourself, you may want to think twice befor buying this game.

If the game would only run.

After months of issues getting the original game "The Sims" to run properly on my brand new computer, and purchasing each and every expansion pack, I could barely be pulled away from this game. I loved it!
When The Sims 2 was released I hesitated to purchase it, for fear that once again there would be months of issues before it would run properly. So I waited. Had I done a search online of how thousands people were still unable to get this game to run properly I would not have purchased it even now, but sadly I did.
The Sims games are wonderful and addictive and delightful, but as long as they design a game that cannot be played without serious performance issues, even on a PC that has over twice the listed requirements, I cannot recommend it. What should be hours of fun turns into hours of frustration and aggrivation.
Unless you are willing to work with support at EA games for quite a while to get this game to run properly, and very likey keep upgrading your PC as well (regardless of what they say are the system requirements) I do not recommend this game.
