Great Game, Graphics A Little Poor

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 14 / 15

I got this game a couple of weeks ago, the day after "the matrix reloaded" came out. I was very excited about the game, considering that I really enjoyed the movie. I popped in the disk, and the game started up pretty quickly, no probloms there. I picked Ghost as the main character ( you get to pick either Niobe or Ghost as the char. that you control, and both have some unique levels that the other does not). I began to play, and was immediatly hooked. The fighting is amazing, it's third person, but it rocks! With the L button you can toggle bullet-time, you slow down, and you can walk on walls, dodge bullets, and do almost every move that you see in the movies. This game does have a multi-player, contray to what the box, you get to have 1 on 1 battles with major characters, like Agent Smith and Morpheas, but you get to do it with another person.

Pros:

Great fighting
Lots of levels
Over an hour of actual footage
Interesting hacking system (hack in new moves, solve binary codes, chat with neo, etc.)

Cons:

Computer animated cutsceens a cheesy, not that big of a deal
Is too easy at times (but that can be solved with HARD instead of NORMAL)
Don't get to control Neo, Morpheas, or Trinity in one player

Overall great game, a must have for any Matrix fan or GC game collection

Great game

I bought this game right before I saw the movie on the first day it came out, and both of them were awesome. Theres hardly anything wrong with this game. The coolest aspect is when you focus(slow down time or bullet time) and you can run up walls, dodge bullets, or jump long distances. Another thing thats great about it is the graphics, they look perfect. The kung fu is great, and you can also do moves that are like the game "Splinter cell". For instance, if you walk behind someone you can choke them, or disarm them. Its the little things like that, that make this game good. The only thing thats a little leary is the driving...shooting is fun, but the driving is little hard to do. If you are thinking about renting the game, dont...you should buy this game because its well worth your money. It has lots of replay value also because you can either play as ghost or niobi. There are also they difficulty settings, and lastly, its 2 discs. You need to play this game to get the full feel of the matrix!

Can you say, "rushed?" Yeah, I thought so.

OK. This game was fun. Easy to get into. Every technical aspect of this game was extremely flawed. The movies were laughably horrible, the clipping was bad, graphics were not good. The Gamecube version requires the swapping of discs after about 2 hours of play. The unlockable multiplayer (don't read this as a good thing) was so bad that it literally came down to whoever mashed all the buttons faster won every time without getting hit. The levels ranged from the eerily easy (kill everyone) to the frustrating (protect good guys) to the downright evil (run from Agent Smith). No, the run from Agent Smith level is not cool. If you even get within a few feet of him, he slams you to the ground repeatedly until you die. The last few levels flying the Logos are the worst part of any game in the last decade. I seriously wonder if any of the other reviewers bothered to play this game before reviewing it. This game had definite potential. Given another six months, I'm sure the guys at Atari could have come up with a real gem, but this game is worth a rent for the scene in which Monica Belluci and Jada Pinkett Smith kiss. Nothing more.

At the begining you pick either Ghost or Niobe to play through the story as. One of my favorite things is that, after you get use to all the normal fighting moves and shooting stuff, you still have the Focus button to play with. Focusing bends the rules of the matrix and gives you character super human speed and strenght, for a limited time. Your focus and Health recharge if you stand still for a moment, which is cool. Plus, There's exclusive footage filmed for the game only, which replaces a lot of what would be Computer animated CutScenes, but not all.

Now, I could go on, but I wouldn't want to anger those of you that like to go into a video game blind, skiping all cutscenes, to get to the game and play on hard-mode, and not have a clue why your doing what your doing. If you arent one of those people, please read the strategy guide. It has a lot of useful info, especialy on the Hacking System...

This is one wonderful game that any gamer should get. I'll have to break it down because I don't know how to say everything in a comment.

* Graphics - The characters are rendered to look compleatly real, but corners where cut when it comes to some of the less used environments, are blocky or bland.

* Sound - Rich and loud, but it can get tiring as there's only two musics for each type of level. The cool thing about this is that when there are no threats the music rebeverts to the softer part of the Matrix Song, but when enemies a flawless trasistion into the louder Matix Music that makes your heart pound. And there's a seperate song and change in the other types of levels too. The Music in the first driving level is amazing when it switches to a rock and roll style when the Police Crusers pop up.

* GamePlay - Amazing in the way that it encompasses fighting, exploration, shooting, and all those into one experince. From Focus-Diving into a Military Swat with a Machine gun blazing, or blowing out the tires off an air plane miles off with a sniper rifle.

* Controls - They meld perfectly with the way you'd move as a Matrix character. They only take the first level or so to get use to. And there are no camera controls other than switch to first-person and back. The camera is always right over your sholder, so your never blinded by an anoying object that gets between the camera and Niobe/Ghost.

Overall Rating - "Must Buy"

Very fun, and cool...

This game I think is the best game based on a movie. It allows you to litteraly "enter the matrix." A cool part about this game is that it allows you to slow down timeand preform really cool moves and tricks that can only be accessed then. Also, the code entering mode is very cool and brings to you that "hacking" sence, like you really are hacking in! I loved the dual wepons, and the cool matrix missions, and fact that both your health and your focus meter re-charge! But, somethings I disliked, the fact that on the road the cops are relentless and very powerful, the multiplayer (which you use a code to unlock) is very bad, the agents are very overpowering and if you see one, all you can hope is that you can escape somehow or he will continue to pick you up and throw you until your dead, other than those things, I say this game is very cool. And quite possibly the best game based on a movie.

incredible fighting engine

I was privy to the ENTER THE MATRIX premiere and game launch in Hollywood, and had the chance to play 3 levels of the game on all three consoles. As a gamer and a Matrix fan, I was thoroughly pleased. The graphics and story are fantastic, but that was to be expected. What was jaw dropping was the fighting engine, including a fantastically rendered bullet-time feature you can toggle during the action. Honestly, the game could have no links to any film, and still be a 5-star game.

Atari has truely outdone themselves

What can I say, I didn't truely hate this game with every fiber of my being; just most of it. Granted, on easy, the game had a lot of potential. My friends and I would pass the wavebird around the room taking turns on every level, which turned out to be for the most part, about 5 or so minutes a piece. That is unless you play against Agent Smith, then he backs you into a corner and pounds you into the ground repeatedly. Boring. Don't even get me stated on the ladder animation. If you use the focus while climbing the ladder, it looks pretty good. I don't reccomend climbing without the focus, it's painful to see. Just like every other game, there are cheats, in this game "hacks" that unlocked a multi player section. I almost had a siezure. I being a button masher, won almost every round due to repeated slamming of the L,R,A, and the occasional B button. I didn't give it 1 star, because face it, it wasn't Brute Force.

The Matrix: The Video Game!

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been waiting for a matrix game since the original matrix. Well now It's Here, And It's Great.

Gameplay 9/10
Wow, this game has driving, fighting, shooting, and it's all done amazingly well. My only problem is that 1/3 of each character's missions are the same. And you can use your focus, it slows everything down, and you can do crazy things just like in the movies.

In Game Graphics 8/10
Good graphics everything is done well what more can I say.

CGI Cut Scenes 4/10
What is this! The Computer Generated Cut Scenes SUCK.
This is the worst thing I've seen in a long time, the original super mario bros. graphics were better (almost).

Live Action Cut Scenes 10/10
That's right, this baby has 1 hour of game exclusive dvd quality cut scenes. Simply amazing, and it does'nt feel wierd going from live action straight to computer animated.Wonderful.

Sound 8/10
Good sound effects, good soundtrack. Just goo all around.
And the music timing is perfect.

Replay Value 8/10
The driving levels are fun no matter how many times you play them, plus ounce you beat the game, you can go through ALOT OF HACKING to get a sword, It takes forever but it's worth it.
And there's a hacking code to give you a multiplayer mode, but it's not that great, you can play as morpheus, agent smith, trinity, a police car(it's really funny the car stands on it's back tires and punches with its front ones) and more. Great Replay Value.

Overall 9/10
If you're a matrix fan or a fan of driving shooting or fighting games, get this. And for $20, You can't go wrong.

The most acclaimed game 4 the Gamecube

Ever since Super Smash Bros. Melee, gamecube has been a hit for adults and children alike...xbox and ps2 have had more games and more online games, so they have risen high above the skies...and gamecube sits on the floor, but, they have come back with the newest game: Enter the Matrix, by Atari. Though it is for all 3 consoles, and the PC as well, Gamecube is by far the best out of all the editions. The controls are extremely easy because of its sleek controller, but, its graphics are slightly off in the movie-clips of the game, but when your playing, the graphics are much better...yet, you dont even care when your playin this game...it has a style of gaming i have never seen before, its like roleplaying games like zelda, with the added feature of Metal-Gear Solid 2, its almost like real, and with the driving, it adds a small part of Driver 2. Its like all in one. You should get it. Add, to top it off, after beating the game once, your not done, theres still the other person. So, you'll have a great time playing...l8r days!!

Bad Game Based On A Great Movie

Anyone who gave this game a high score doesn't know what they are talking about. First off, the controls are not as great as they should have been. They are not terrible but I have played games with much better controls. And the fighting could also use some major improvement. You basically just tap the kick and punch buttons until the person you are fighting is dead. You have very little control over what types of moves you can do. Gunplay is very cool and very well done, I must say that. Also the Focus feature is very awesome when combined with gunplay. But the driving levels left me very disappointent. I was expecting so much because they should have been really cool but you basically just have to hold down the gas. There is very little threat from other enemies. Also I must add this. Near the end of the game you are running through some buildings in the city trying to get away from Agent Smith. Now this sounds very cool but ultimately it is very frustrating. The arrow got me confused and often ran me into dead ends. I'm willing to forgive that, but when you get stuck with Agent Smith and he somehow is able to repeatedly pick you up and throw you (even if you are not standing directly near him)8 times in a row, you want to throw your controller at the TV. One cool element is the movie sequences. That is the main reason I rented the game. It does tie in with the Reloaded story and it's cool that they got the actors to do their parts. But all of the stunts that you want to do which would be cool (i.e. jumping through windows, taking on Agent Smith etc.) are all played out for you using in-game cinemas.
If you are a Matrix fan then you have to rent this game just to get the whole story. But DO NOT buy this game. At least not for $50. And if you are not a Matrix fan this game will not make you one. My advice: rent it for the Revolutions trailer at the end if that interests you. Otherwise spend you money on something MUCH better like Metroid Prime or Wind Waker.
