Takes up a lot of memory

This game is really cool. The news studio town is a lot of fun and there are a lot of cool new things to wear and decorate with.

The bad part is the amount of memory these expansion packs take up. I suggest to only buy the expansion packs that you want and not to buy them all because of the incredible amount of space they take up. They also cost a lot of money for an expansion pack. Some games don't even cost as much as these expansion packs. They are running out of new ideas and should stop making new expansion packs!

Don't get me wrong the game is great but be prepared for The Sims to overtake your hardrive! If you are new to the wonderful world of The Sims, I would suggest to you to buy the newer expansion packs and just skip the old ones. The first two really don't have that much new stuff in them. This one however has a whole new Studio Town area. The only problem with this new area is that the directors won't let you have a part. They say you need experience but no one will give that to you. Another problem is that when you return to your house after you have been to Studio Town (or any other area for that matter) your sim is tired from being out of the house but the time at the house hasn't changed and it takes forever to get them sleeping at night again instead of in the middle of the day.

So, get the game if you are a die hard fan and don't mind The Sims taking over your hardrive.

I just bought the Sim's Superstar and so far it is a blast.
The first Sim I created is a singer. She went onstage for open mike time. She bombed in front of the audience. So everytime she greets these Sim's, they remember her horrible singing. After some much needed rest and some lunch, she worked on her creativity. Went back to the open mike and rocked the house.
This game is for people with active imagination and time to play. LOL. A huge improvement on the TSO disaster.
Do buy it.

Good, yet FRUSTRATING

This game is very clever, cute, and fun.. except it is VERY frustrating. It takes hours to get your sim famous, and you'll find yourself spending your entire afternoon on the computer, ready to throw the game out the window as your sim gets rejected again. I think Maxis made this game way too hard, it's tough to enjoy it. Don't buy this if you have no patience.

Brace yourselves...the Sims are famous!!

This is some info from the Official Sims website:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 13, 2003 - Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) today announced plans to release this May The Sims™ Superstar, a new expansion pack to the top-selling PC game of all time, The Sims™. Players can now realize their fantasies of fame and fortune as they pursue the dream of being a Rock Star, Movie Star or a Supermodel and live the lifestyle of a celebrity. All new gameplay, new social interactions and a whole new in-game destination offer players an all access pass to the world of superstardom. In The Sims Superstar, The Sims are ready for their close up.

"The Sims have lived extreme lives, thrown outrageous parties, gone on hot dates, traveled to vacation destinations and owned pets. Now it's time for them to follow their dreams of making it big," said Jonathan Knight, Producer at EA's Maxis™ studio. "The Sims Superstar will let players experience the outrageous world of celebrity, Sims style."

For the first time ever, players can follow their Sims to work and witness their pursuit of fame and fortune firsthand. Fledgling Sims start by signing with an agent and shuttling to Studio Town, a new and fully customizable destination that offers television and movie lots, spa locations, recording studios and fabulous fashion facilities. Once there, Sims can schmooze, network and name drop their way to stardom in the movies, music or fashion. Will your Sim be a flash in the pan or a living legend? Players can now track the sizzle of their Sims with an all new fame score.

A new cast of comical characters are available to assist The Sims in their quest for celebrity. A fabulous fashion designer, a mega-hit record producer and a maniacal movie director are available for career critique. A capable butler, a savvy sushi chef, and a soothing masseuse will be on-call to administer to the every whim of a celebrity Sim. Life in the spotlight would not be complete without the glare of the paparazzi, the adoration of groupies, and the annoyance of an obsessed fan or two. This is all part of life in the spotlight in The Sims Superstar.

Sims can become a celeb or just live like one. Fabulous new objects like a skydiving simulator, satellite dish, and a new art and furniture collection can turn an ordinary Sims abode into a magnificent and decadent manse. Sims in need of a day of indulgence and pampering can also enjoy the new day spa, complete with mud treatments, steam baths, Sim massages and an oxygen bar. Domestic staff is also available for hire so manicured Sims won't chap their hands with the drudgeries of household maintenance.

Will your Sim become an icon or fade into the obscurity of bad dinner theater? Will they win a coveted Simmy award or be regulated to personal hygiene commercials? In The Sims Superstar, you are the idol maker.

I have been a HUGE Sims fan since the moment it hit the market. I have bought each expansion pack and have enjoyed the progressive additions and improvements. I am truly enjoying the Sims: Superstar! The BEST feature is the Butler. You know how annoying it is when your maid, gardener, or repairman stays all day, charging you money but doesn't complete their task. The Butler takes care of calling the labor and finishing whatever they don't. Going to the Studio section has become a religious event for my Sim. The hardest thing was to learn how to get past the shallow conversations in order to make the "star" become friendship contacts. If you are not careful, by the time you get your 'star-climbing' Sim friends with the 'current star' Sim, they usually are no longer 'current stars' - in fact, they may not even be on the Who's Hot top 10 list. What I want now is SIMS 2! Anyone know if there are going to be anymore expansion packs (if so, how many) before SIMS 2? EA keep 'em comin'!

The best expansion pack for the Sims yet!!

This is a definite must have for the sims enthusiast. As soon as I bought it, my friend came over to try it out. He ended up ordering it within a week. We both think it's a great game. The best part is... well, I can't really think of a best part. The whole thing is awsome! :)

SuperStar- not that hard!

I was very suprised to find that many reviewers were saying how hard it is to gain one star, and to make famous friends. Just make sure your sim is all greened up when they head to stuido town, and since the first few levels don't require skill, it should be easy! As for getting famous friends, find a sim who has a lower or about the same star level as you. Talk to them, compliment them, whatever, just get a few social points. Then head home and invite them downtown! We all know it doesn't take much to make friends there. In no time you'll have famous friends and some star levels. Once you get to the more advance photo shoot, and from that point, don't make the same mistake I did at first. They'll give you 3 ways to do the shoot (or song, or soap opera, whatever). Randomely pick one way, and choose it three times (you dont have to find the sequence the three go in like I thought). The director will either have you in a thought bubble or you in a thought bubble with an X through your sim. Use these indicators to switch what you need to. You get three tries, so it isn't too bad. Just make sure in between visits to studio town you work on charisma and creativity. Use a piano for creativity because they'll gain fun at the same time. Overall, this is more challenging then the previous expansions (and makin magic) but if you work at it, it's quite fun!
p.s. if your sim is good friends with a celeb, go into the celeb trailer, and invite that person in, and see what happens ;)!

a great and entertaining game

The sims superstar is such a great expansion pack! New features and ojects allow you to explore the sims world more. the new objects are great to and fufilled my every sims need. Im very addicted to it though. Its exciting to be a celebrity but its hard to get to be one. I liked having my sim play piano or guitar do a photo shoot or do kareoke. definetly a must buy :-)

Maxis brings to us yet another brilliant expansion pack for The Sims! In Superstar, you can do so much more cool stuff. Items such as an oxygen bar, massage table, mud bath and so much more wallpaper and floors are added. Also there is a scuba diving tank, and a sky diving simulator that can both purchased and placed in your home! As you probably already know, it does take some work to become famous, however it is SO worth the time. Every day there is an obsessed fan outside my house, just begging to catch a glimpse of my sim. Also when i reached superstar, Christina Agulara herself came to my sim home in a limo and presented me with an award! That was just one of the many suprised I recieved while playing this game. This is a great buy and a MUST have for any Sim Fanatic!

Overall - a lot of fun!

I've bought every single Sims expansion the day it came out. You could call me a Sims addict. :) It's hard to rank the expansions, but I would put Superstar as one of my favorites.

This expansion is definitly fun, they added a LOT of new material to the game. The bad stuff first:

-It's hard to get famous! The first few stars are easy to get, you just work on your skills at home, then sing kareoke to become recognized. Once you get a couple stars, you have to start doing harder stuff. For example - you can record a song at the studio. The hard part is, you have to solve a puzzle to get it done right - which I find extremely aggravating! You have to choose one of three styles of singing, then make sure you have the right three in the right order. Once you figure it out, it's possible to get it right every time - but that's way too much thinking!

-Sims can only go to Studio Town once a day, but when they're there they get tired REALLY fast. My Sims can only do a few songs/modeling acts/acting jobs before they are tired and cranky. I wish they had a little more stamina!

-Sims have to have "famous" friends in order to advance. At first, it's hard to get these friends! My Sims would only do actions like "ask for autograph" and "ask for hug" to the famous Sims - hard to get their friendship when all you can do is bug them for an autograph dozens of times in a row!

-A lot of downloads are incapatible with Sims Superstar. Personally I don't use a lot of downloads, so it hasn't been a big problem. The one issue I did have was with downloaded skins/clothes. One of the skins I used must have been completely incompatible because it crashed whenever I tried to create a new Sim character. I deleted the skin and it hasn't been a problem since.

Good stuff:

-The music! I love hearing my Sims sing - the music is great! I've noticed that I have to play it in regular speed, medium or fast speed - else the songs don't sound right. It's really fun to watch them model funky clothes and act too.

-The new items! Tons and TONS of new items to play with. I especially like the butler, even though he is a little too expensive. My fiance teases me because my Sim lives in a small house and has a butler.

-The new NPCs! The obsessive fan - he cracks me up. Some people find him annoying, I like him. So far he hasn't done anything too aggravating, just taking stuff out of my Sims trash can and snapping pictures through her windows.

-Studio Town! It's a lot of fun. There are tons of places to shop and socialize. I like to bring my non-Superstar sims down there to hang out.

Overall I give the game 4 stars, only because some parts of it are more work than fun.
