Played an early build, this is the BIG ONE

Don't ask me how, but I got a chance to play an early build of this game and I can say hands down that this is THE FIGHTING GAME TO PLAY. Incredible combos, great looking characters (especially the girls), huge interactive backgrounds, great special effects.

This is no Kakatu Chojin (the WORST fighting game ever made, whoever at Microsoft approved this abortion should be fired)!!

Tao Feng was designed by the original Mortal Kombat team members and they've taken fighting to a whole new level. Do not miss this one.

pretty good

It has the good stuff for a good fighting game. Althoug, personally i did like how you could move in a 3d partern in mortal kombat with ease. In this game you have to tap up or down twice to move around your apponent. To me this is a good tatic when you begin to know your opponent and predict his moves. Its just a little harder in this game. Its fun, and challenging. Once i get the combos down and so forth it will be even more fun. I feel i have the 3 best fighting games for xbox, mortal kombat d.a., doa3, and tao feng. Tao feng also has a new feature, the limb damage. Its not real detailed when you hurt a limb, it just hangs there and gives you an advantage when you are in a heated battle. Its a very good feature, but not bone showing detailed. Well you know the rest of the features if you have done some research on the game. Its well worth the money if you enjoy fighitng games. I sure do. Its awesome!

Horrible. A triumph of form over content.

Well, it's pretty.

... and that's about it. Games like Tekken, Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter have risen the bar for fighting games, and Tao Feng falls woefully short of this standard.

The gameplay is sluggish, clunky and shallow. The game revolves around string based, unbreakable combos and a limited aresenal of throws. Blocking is frustratingly difficult; I'm impressed that it's implemented so poorly, considering that the game uses the intuitive "hold back on the joystick" mechanic.

Others have mentioned the irritating training mode, the cheating AI, the bland characters and the misleading advertising campaign.

If you are looking for a good fighting game for your XBox, go with DOA, which has everything that Tao Feng is missing.

Great Concept, Poor Execution

Fighting game fans have been treated to a vast array of great games in the past few years. DOA, Tekken, and Soul Caliber each raised the bar in their own way for fans of the genre. Tao Feng never manages to accomplish this, even if it does break ground in a few specialized areas.

Tao Feng's primary draw is its real time damage features. Opponents bleed, bruise, and have bones broken as the game progresses. While these features sound interesting, they play a minor role in the game and don't add enough to make up for the lackluster gameplay. In addition, the learning curve is pretty steep. Computer players start out fighting normally, but by the end of the game it's a contest of "who can string together the longest combo". This aspect turns Tao Feng into just another over-comboed fighting game.

Overall, this is a decent fighting game. Recommended if you can pick it up at a discount, or maybe just as a rental.

don't listen to the haters

Fun well executed fighting game that tries to do something different. The people who hate this game obviously just want the same old same old all the time. Don't listen to them, this is a very fun game, especially against another player.

Not much new ground broken, but plenty of bones!

While I will concur with the sentiment that Tao Feng is a pretty average game on the whole its just as far from being horrible as it is from being exceptional.

The limb damage system seems like an idea that was either tacked on at the last second or quickly reworked in a more simple context than originally intended. I've yet to see anything besides arms be broken and the conditions that cause damage seem to be simply "punishing mid-section attacks" rather than "targeted shots" as eluded to in the game's description. If nothing else, it gimps people who like to block too much and is funny to watch when a fighter is hobbling around with limp arms.

Amusement factor is definitely where this game shines. A decent stereo system combined with the fluid and downright punishing graphic effects makes for a rather giggle-infested ride. Anyone with an appreciation for excessive violence will likely cackle in glee to the tune of bouncing an opponent off walls and into floors while plaster, glass and other assorted building materials are thrown up in chunks.

The ability to actually use the evironment in fights is probably the most notable aspect of the game and certainly something unique to typical fighting games.

In my experience the game's pace moves fairly quickly contrary to some other reviews. Given that your fighters are pretty quick on their feet and feature a number of moves that cover alot of ground really quick.

The graphics and sound are quite nice overall with a few low points to be had in the former category. Notably the times when an opponent is "popped up" into the air or when one of the fighters execute a "corkscrew" manuver really look very cheesy and out of place in a game that otherwise boasts very nice fluid graphics.

Not a bad buy if you're looking for something to kick around with friends since the fighting system is admitedly not as technically-inclined as some others. Just good old-fashioned beatdown fun.

Good but not great.

The graphics for the game are terrific. The characters move fluidly during combat while executing various moves. However the general set of moves becomes old after you play for awhile. Once you find a couple of combos you just sit back and wait to unleash them. I like the Chi method for awarding special attacks. More characters would add a bonus as there are not enough in the game. Also, the mature rating must be for the physical violence. There isn't much blood and certainly no gore. Overall, I like Tekken on the PS2 better than Tao Feng for the Xbox. However, the game is still solid. You might want to rent it before you go out and buy it.

Worst fighter *EVER*

From the commercials, and from the product boxing, and from
the team that worked on this title, you would expect this game
to be amazing, perhaps ranking with the all time great fighters
out there (No, Im not refering to Mortal Kombat XXXXXXXIV).
This game is a complete waste of money. The only feature in
this game that is interesting is the real-time damage done
to character skins, and that wears thin after 20 minutes.
The characters' movements are about as fluid as a log. The

characters themselfs are not interesting. In fact, they're
all pretty stupid looking. Their attacks look like a flock
seagulls fighting for bread crumbs. Basically, if you've been
a fan of MK since *AFTER* MK2, you will probably like this
game. If you liked Mortal Kombat, and MK2, among other great
fighters like Soul Calibur, DOA, or basically, games which
were innovative, you will probably not wish to purchase
this game.

Be warned

This game was startlingly mediocre. As someone who has been obsessed with the 2-D street fighter games (third strike, marvel v snk, marvel v capcom) and 3-D(tekken tag and virtua fighter 4)I was severely disappointed... The fighting system is severely lacking and there are only a few characters, mostly uninteresting ones. The graphics are good tho, and there aren't a lot of good fighting games for the xbox, which is why I gave it two stars instead of zero. Rent it first, because after about a week I'm ready to sell it-I've got Virtua Fighter 4 to play.
P.S. I just got the Sims and it [is great].

WOW!! I'm impressed!

Incredibly responsive gameplay, a deep aresenal of moves, and a satisfying fighting system which includes chain throws and countermoves!

But wait, we're talking about Tao Feng, not Tekken. Tao Feng "is bad", and there's no other way to put it. It's "just like another fighting game" without combo breaks. It's "other fighting games" with lamer combos. It's "other fighting games" without fatalities/humiliations. Its advertising campaign was based completely on deception and fantasy.

The only positive thing I can say about this game is that it looks good. Buy something else.
