An awesome game ,but where's is the strategy?!!!

Ghost Recon 2 is a fun game but the stategy perspective was elimnated!!! Hardcore Clancy fans were disapointed by the lack of
battle field strategy. For people who love First Person Shooters or third like me proably see this as an new innovative first person shooter or third person shooter. You now have the option of playing in first or third person mode. There is also many other changes in the graphics engine and gameplay style. The new gameplay style is more so like Rainbow Six 3 than Ghost recon. I myself liked the change. The enviroments and maps were truly awesome. The multi- player and online play is awesome too!!!!!! In really liked lone wolf mode when you can do a mission with out a team and get high tech weaponary!!!!!!! The game is a little challenging but, in a good way!!! I strongly suggest you get this game!!!

Major Glitch Causes Xbox to Crash

Ghost Recon 2 is a blast on xbox live when it isn't crashing your Xbox. There is a major programming glitch that will cause your xbox to crash. This occurs in the middle of game play, or anytime for that matter. The game goes to a black screen with an error message saying, "please restart your xbox." This is happening on every copy purchased on every xbox using xbox live. Until the game can be patched and available for download, plan on being frusterated if your soul purpose is to play xbox live. The company behind this is obviously more interested in getting a pre-Christmas release for revenue then put out a descent an error free version.

This is a highly rated game. Well of coarse its a good game.
here are some things about Ghost Recon 2...

The Good
-new levels(of coarse there are but its still something new)
-awsome nonstop xbox live and co-op action
-new and improved invironments
-better graphics
-better gameplay
-easy to use controlls
-almost 10 new game types for multiplayer(now thats awsome)

Here are some of the bsd things about the game (there are barley any but here they are...

-xbox live game play is almost the same as the other Ghost Recon games
-single player and co-op is the same (almost)
-single player is to easy and if thats to easy than the co-op is to easy because you have another player on your side... you think they could make the enimy AI better.

Well overall this is a very good game and it is highly recomended by The Oficcial Xbox Mag. Game Informer, and many game websites.

Ubi watered the game down.

I am a big fan of the original Ghost Recon and have put many hours into it along with many of the mods and add-ons (Desert Siege and Island Thunder). Ghost Recon is a tactical military shooter about an elite Air Force reconnaissance unit that operated by stealth behind enemy lines. The game forces the player to stragetise the use of cover and concealment rather than "run and gun".

The single player missions in the original allow you to choose specialized personnel necessary to achieve the goals. If you lose a specialized team member in combat you lose all the 'points' you invest in him or her. This means you need to complete missions flawlessly. To accomplish this you are given a map on which you can coordinate the actions of your teams with a reasonable degree of precision and you are allowed to accomplish your tasks in nearly any order you think appropriate. Once the mission was accomplished you were given points that allowed you to further modify your teams (and sometimes new weapons and personnel).

I had hoped GR2 would be in the same vein but adapted to better technology (along with the expected new weaponry and missions). Unfortunately that is not the case. Ghost Recon 2 has had the entire team system ripped out and replaced with a couple of stupid commands that are effectively 'sit still' and 'charge'. When not rushing blindly to their deaths your squad will wander around... sometimes wandering into your line of fire, at other times firing at inanimate objects like rocks.. attracting every enemy in the area. Their only use seems to be to draw fire away from you. If they die the only effect seems to be that you get fewer points in the final tally (perfect scores unlock weaponry and such).

This game hits several of my pet peeves besides the team control... the missions are very linear, offering very little variation (the lone missions at least relieves you from your team wandering into fire), most combat interactions on scripted events, concealment seems to have no effect (except that you cant see them when they are concealed) and the mappers sometimes used invisible walls to block access to areas.

On the positive side, fans of less strict tactical shooters like Call of Duty or Socom will probably find the gameplay entertaining even though the plot and storytelling methods are less than engaging. Personally though, I didnt see anything here I havent seen in earlier, better games. I still hold out hope that the cancelled PC version will mean the upcoming Ghost Recon 3 will be closer to the original version in both style and content.

X-box live makes the game

This is actually the third Ghost Recon game to date.
Though the one before it (Island Thunder) seemed like more of an expansion.

This game doesn't feel like an expansion,it feels like an entirely new game.Third person view is the most applaudable new feature. With the traditional first person aspect still here.
The game may seem completely new,but hard-core fans of the older games will feel at home with more tactical manueverablilty. You get quick access to the map and reloading guns and swapping them too.

New features also include the ability to use your x-box live communicator.Speak into it and give your squad commands take lead of the stealthy battles. This is an amazing new inovative feature.Words need to be crytsal clear too for the commands to work so don't get frustrated. The other features like swapping guns from enemies and third person were mentioned earlier. The game play feels sped up abit.
The online is the biggest feature. No,doubt the best x-box live game for tactics.Team work is essential.Wich is fun to be stealhy and demanding and plotting schemes two steps ahead of the game. It's always fun to watch your enemies team fall out and wonder,
"WHERE ARE WE BEING SHOT FROM!!!!".
When going solo you can't rely on teamwork, as you no longer have a team it's every man for himself.
The final big new feature is the Lone Wolf!
This alone is the coolest new gun available in the game.
You can hide and use the guns camera mode to see upcoming enemies. You can also fire the gun away and hidden and they won't even suspect a thing.Grenades are also an attachment to this gun making it an all around good gun.

Ghost Recon 2 is awesome the graphics are updated and almost lag free online. The gameplay feels improved but the level design feels clausterphobic.Controls i couldnt of asked for anything better. All in all, this is an amazing title and i say go for it.$20 is well worth the price.

Why no X/Y axis reversal???

The game was made totally unplayable, for me, since I have a middle-aged mental block if I can't reverse the X/Y axis. Otherwise, the game looked good. Glad I rented it first though, would have been much more upset to find something so fundamental missing from this game and having spent $50. This game is not worth any amount of money without being able to reverse the axis.

Great Game with minor flaws...

To set the fact I only bought this game for XBOX live. I have attempted to play the single player and enjoyed seeing nothing wrong with it. The Live works great with the exception that on certain spots when you try to snipe or shoot, you can see the bullet marks in the air when u are next to a rock or other object, if the other palyers are using a slower connection it causes lag time and can miss up a kill for you, and if you try to play a game with lone wolfs and grenadiers it can cause lag time with the explosives. But the most frustrating thing of all is that when you are playing for a long time and get used to it, it kicks you out and gives you the dredded red x and have to reboot. But I'm tired of saying all the bad things, some good things are the viisuals are great for the assortment of terrain you have and can addapt to and there is always someone online I have only had one day when no more than 50 people have been online. So for everyone that loves to play on XBOX Live I highly recommend this game to you.

This Game is Addictive on XBOX Live

People giving this game all the bad reviews must not have given it a fair shot online. It is an incredible XBOX live game. Prices have dropped on it now such that it can be purchased new for about $30.00 and it can be found used for even less. It is absolutely worth every penny of $30.00. You will waste countless hours of your life gleefully blowing away people from all over the world online. Squad based play is great, every bit as good as Counter Strike, but with much better graphics. It's just plain fun. The worst part about this game is that it's hard to stop playing. Every time I play it on a weekend evening I end up zoning out on the thing and staying up all night long. My wife just loves it when I do that. ;-) Single player isn't good for much but learning the ropes for multiplayer action, but this is without a doubt one of the best military style multiplayer games you can buy. It's a blast.

A Change From The Original !!!!

Ghost Recon 2 takes Ghost Recon in a whole new direction, morphing it to more of an FPS more so like Rainbow Six 3, with a brand new graphics engine, along with a whole new style of gameplay. The original Ghost Recon along with Island Thunder was, more of an stragetic first person shooter(FPS), when you mapped out the stragties, as you commanded two squads Alpha and Bravo, eac with 3 members and special abilites, and postions and such. Now this game is more like Rainbow Six 3, when you play only as one charater, instead of playing as an entire squad.

You only have 4 instead of six people under your commmand. The game is presented differently, and you now have the choice of playing in third person like Socom, or First Person. They have also have made the commands simpler, kind or like a system like Star Wars: Republic Commando uses, which is you press different buttons for different actions, which in a way makes it easier to control your squad. You also get a bigger variety in weapons, and more advanced hardware as well. The maps and environments in the game are much more vast and give you more options, than the other games.

There is also some parts, of the game when you use The Lone Wolf System, which is actually an goverment project when, that has you equiped with some high tech equipment including the new M29 camera equiped rifle, and are able to trigger an perfectly aimed burst while looking around a corner. You can also pulverize enimes with laser guided air strikes. The options are vast, and will have you wanting for more. 20 straight missions of gold if you ask me, with more creative and cooler mission, smarter A.I. Each mission, is better than the last one, the game plainly gets better and better as you play it.

The basic campaign takes place in the year 2011, against the North Koreans, in a fight to the death. As, you fight for your life in the vast jungles, advancing inch by, inch with bullets wizzing by your head barely a cenimeter away. You then must lead your squad and do some serious death dealing leading your elite group of Ghosts, with superior weaponry, training, and sheer courage. You must push them back and finish them once and for all.

What can I say the campaign isn't going to be easy, but with the refurbished graphics and new look, you'll be hooked for hours and hours playing sleepless nights, shooting, blowing up, or eliminating anything in your way. The campaign is plainly awesome. Yet, the game is like like one reviwer said a sure hit that missed it's mark, which means it's just as great, but not in the same ways as the others. Hell 15-20 hours of action, now thats a game folks.

I say if you liked Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3, and Socom all rolled into one check it out, every FPS fan will get something out of this, but I guess That in a way they made the game less intellegent so that a wider audience can play, with the Rated Teen rating, cutting back on the gore. New look, great change, but nothing like the other Ghost Recon games.

You also have some great multi player options which include 2-4 player split screen action like co-op for example, and better online otions, with voice command enabled, very similar to Rainbow Six 3, going head to head with people all across the world in Xbox live. What can, I say the multi player options have greatly improved from the other Ghost Recon games, which spices and enchances the gaming expierence even more.

Overall, the game is a new breed of Ghost Recon, that is just as great, but cut out some of the stragety, yet it still earns a 5/5.... for being a great game.

A Sad Ending: No one plays online anymore.

When I got this game when it came out (a year ago or so, maybe even less), I put in many hours online. Even back then, the game had major glitches like not loading at all and giving message like reboot. It took some time to get on line. You had to wait until a match is over or until the host decides to launch the game. It took even longer to get a game going as a host. Anyway, the wait to get online was ALL worth it because gameplay experience online was addictive and fun, especially after playing for hours and getting really good at it. There are plenty of maps, some are better than others. I'm sure some reviewer has already described the maps.
What I wanted to say was as of May 2005, after not having played for a few months, I went back online and was TOTALLY disappointed. Nobody was playing single player game. No quick matches could be found. A few were playing squad game but again only very few. I was surprised to find how short-lived this game is. If you are thinking of getting this game for online experience, you might want to reconsider. The single player game is so-so. What a bad-ending for a once-great online game.
