If You're Looking for a Phenomenal XBox Live Experience

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4

Then this is your game. I bought GR2 primarily for the online play; so if that's your interest, that's the angle this review is taking.

(For what it's worth, I agree with other reviewers that the single player missions are much more linear than GR1 which is disappointing. If I were grading this game as a single player game, I would go with 3 1/2 or 4 stars. Very solid, but NOT GR1.)

Here are a handful of reasons why I rate this as the best multiplayer game I've ever played:

1. Realism. If you're running and shooting at the same time, your accuracy takes a huge hit. Get hit in the arm, you can keep going. Get hit in the head, not so much.

2. Graphics. They're ridiculous. Tremendous attention to detail.

3. Other Gamers. The people playing this tend to be a bit older, more respectful, and less profane than the Halo 2 crowd. Online play is definitely not a PG experience, but you don't feel like you need a shower after you play for 30 minutes.

4. Strategy. In most cases, if your team isn't coordinating your efforts, you're gonna get it handed to you. The fact that you have to cooperate with your teammates heightens the experience.

5. Custom Options. There are a dozen or so options that you can customize on each game. From playing solo or squad based games to restricting certain weapons packages to controlling the length of the game, the custom options are REALLY rich. The only option it doesn't offer (which GR1 for PC does offer--which is my only previous GR exposure) is limited respawns. In GR2 for XBox, respawns are either unlimited or completely off. It would have been a nice touch to allow a specific number of respawns.

Short story long, this is the most realistic, most enjoyable, most addictive online game I've ever played.

Never played Ghost Recon, but 2 is great!!

I've never played the first Ghost Recon, but I've played enough shooting games to know which ones are good. This is one of those good ones. This game is very tough on co-op mode with a friend. But get three friends for a whole squad and you'll probably do fine. The computer is pretty smart, they know where your shots come from and will continuously be shooting at you. While the single player missions seem very hard (especially when you forget to save), you will find yourself continuing to come back for more. I give this game a 5 out of 5. The fun factor I give a 4 out of 5.

X-box live makes the game

This is actually the third Ghost Recon game to date.
Though the one before it (Island Thunder) seemed like more of an expansion.

This game doesn't feel like an expansion,it feels like an entirely new game.Third person view is the most applaudable new feature. With the traditional first person aspect still here.
The game may seem completely new,but hard-core fans of the older games will feel at home with more tactical manueverablilty. You get quick access to the map and reloading guns and swapping them too.

New features also include the ability to use your x-box live communicator.Speak into it and give your squad commands take lead of the stealthy battles. This is an amazing new inovative feature.Words need to be crytsal clear too for the commands to work so don't get frustrated. The other features like swapping guns from enemies and third person were mentioned earlier. The game play feels sped up abit.
The online is the biggest feature. No,doubt the best x-box live game for tactics.Team work is essential.Wich is fun to be stealhy and demanding and plotting schemes two steps ahead of the game. It's always fun to watch your enemies team fall out and wonder,
"WHERE ARE WE BEING SHOT FROM!!!!".
When going solo you can't rely on teamwork, as you no longer have a team it's every man for himself.
The final big new feature is the Lone Wolf!
This alone is the coolest new gun available in the game.
You can hide and use the guns camera mode to see upcoming enemies. You can also fire the gun away and hidden and they won't even suspect a thing.Grenades are also an attachment to this gun making it an all around good gun.

Ghost Recon 2 is awesome the graphics are updated and almost lag free online. The gameplay feels improved but the level design feels clausterphobic.Controls i couldnt of asked for anything better. All in all, this is an amazing title and i say go for it.$20 is well worth the price.

Ghost Recon 2 is by far the best war game ever made game with the best graphics of the backround and the people. The enimies are smart and don't run away when you shot at them, the aiming is more advaced than any other game and the commands are much better than the first couple Ghost Recon's. Over all this game is so damn cool.

This Game is Addictive on XBOX Live

People giving this game all the bad reviews must not have given it a fair shot online. It is an incredible XBOX live game. Prices have dropped on it now such that it can be purchased new for about $30.00 and it can be found used for even less. It is absolutely worth every penny of $30.00. You will waste countless hours of your life gleefully blowing away people from all over the world online. Squad based play is great, every bit as good as Counter Strike, but with much better graphics. It's just plain fun. The worst part about this game is that it's hard to stop playing. Every time I play it on a weekend evening I end up zoning out on the thing and staying up all night long. My wife just loves it when I do that. ;-) Single player isn't good for much but learning the ropes for multiplayer action, but this is without a doubt one of the best military style multiplayer games you can buy. It's a blast.

A Change From The Original !!!!

Ghost Recon 2 takes Ghost Recon in a whole new direction, morphing it to more of an FPS more so like Rainbow Six 3, with a brand new graphics engine, along with a whole new style of gameplay. The original Ghost Recon along with Island Thunder was, more of an stragetic first person shooter(FPS), when you mapped out the stragties, as you commanded two squads Alpha and Bravo, eac with 3 members and special abilites, and postions and such. Now this game is more like Rainbow Six 3, when you play only as one charater, instead of playing as an entire squad.

You only have 4 instead of six people under your commmand. The game is presented differently, and you now have the choice of playing in third person like Socom, or First Person. They have also have made the commands simpler, kind or like a system like Star Wars: Republic Commando uses, which is you press different buttons for different actions, which in a way makes it easier to control your squad. You also get a bigger variety in weapons, and more advanced hardware as well. The maps and environments in the game are much more vast and give you more options, than the other games.

There is also some parts, of the game when you use The Lone Wolf System, which is actually an goverment project when, that has you equiped with some high tech equipment including the new M29 camera equiped rifle, and are able to trigger an perfectly aimed burst while looking around a corner. You can also pulverize enimes with laser guided air strikes. The options are vast, and will have you wanting for more. 20 straight missions of gold if you ask me, with more creative and cooler mission, smarter A.I. Each mission, is better than the last one, the game plainly gets better and better as you play it.

The basic campaign takes place in the year 2011, against the North Koreans, in a fight to the death. As, you fight for your life in the vast jungles, advancing inch by, inch with bullets wizzing by your head barely a cenimeter away. You then must lead your squad and do some serious death dealing leading your elite group of Ghosts, with superior weaponry, training, and sheer courage. You must push them back and finish them once and for all.

What can I say the campaign isn't going to be easy, but with the refurbished graphics and new look, you'll be hooked for hours and hours playing sleepless nights, shooting, blowing up, or eliminating anything in your way. The campaign is plainly awesome. Yet, the game is like like one reviwer said a sure hit that missed it's mark, which means it's just as great, but not in the same ways as the others. Hell 15-20 hours of action, now thats a game folks.

I say if you liked Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3, and Socom all rolled into one check it out, every FPS fan will get something out of this, but I guess That in a way they made the game less intellegent so that a wider audience can play, with the Rated Teen rating, cutting back on the gore. New look, great change, but nothing like the other Ghost Recon games.

You also have some great multi player options which include 2-4 player split screen action like co-op for example, and better online otions, with voice command enabled, very similar to Rainbow Six 3, going head to head with people all across the world in Xbox live. What can, I say the multi player options have greatly improved from the other Ghost Recon games, which spices and enchances the gaming expierence even more.

Overall, the game is a new breed of Ghost Recon, that is just as great, but cut out some of the stragety, yet it still earns a 5/5.... for being a great game.

I am a first time Ghost Recon player. All the reviews I have read say that the game is much more full of action. Most people say that they liked the original Ghost Recons better.Since this is my first time buying a Ghost Recon game, I like this fast paced gameplay.I bought Conflict Desert Storm 2 a while ago and I'd say that Ghost Recon 2 is a lot like that.Overall the graphics are outstanding! The character's mouth actually moved to the words he was saying. The weapon selection was good too.The controlls to play can be learned quickly but the comands are hard to memorize. This problem can be fixed simplyby using an Xbox Live comunicators headset.Just yell out the command! If you are a first time Ghost Recon player, this is the game for you.

If you have XBOX live you owe it to yourself to get this game. It is a blast online! There are some major glitches in getting in and out of games but there will be an update to download soon! The outdoor scenes are well done and it actually feels like you are out in the woods crawling around in the grass or running around in some wartorn city.

This game is a great stealth and shooting game. Do not listen to the idiots who say no one plays it online anymore, it is still the 3rd most played online game in the WORLD at least today which is June 13, 2005. If you don't believe me go to xbox.com and check. If you like shooting or stealth games this is a great one. The online play is awesome and the single player isn't about runnin around with guns blazing. Overall great game.

Stick with the online or skip it...

As a big fan of the original Ghost Recon games on Xbox, I was really looking forward towards Ghost Recon 2. Although the single player missions aren't as great as the earlier games, the online mulitplayer is really a blast. For starters, the graphics are great as well as the sounds and controls. Lag is rarely a factor online although the dreaded "red X" can be a real pain sometimes. Finally spawn campers can be stopped in this sequel with the new options and you won't find nearly as many "glitchers" as in GR1 or GR:Island Thunder. So basically, if your looking for an awesome online multiplayer game for your xbox and if you want a more realistic approach than Halo 2 then I would highly recommend this game.
