Best military game I've ever seen

Ghost Recon 2 is a great shooter game that provides hours of fun. Solo and Multiplayer are both very good. There are lots of cool weapons to choose from, like the ultra-accurate M8 sharpshooter, or the camera-equipped M29. Graphics are awesome, I've not noticed any choppiness except in dense forests with lots of trees. Music is decent and the sound is well done. Multiplayer, even local multiplayer is always fun. The solo missions, however, are VERY challenging, probably because you need only take one or two shots before you're dead. Once you get through the missions, though, you can go back and play them as a firefight, a recon, a defend, or a lone wolf (where you get high-tech equipment). This feature gives it great replay value.

I only have a single complaint about this game, friendly AI, especially with the British soldiers, who, although they can be helpful, often walk into your line of fire and get shot, and you fail the mission immediately. Other than that, this is the coolest Xbox game that exists.

Not worth it. This is not Ghost Recon

I bought this game on the strength of the Original and Island Thunder. I want my money back. It's just doesn't meet muster. It cannot be compared to Ghost Recon.

AI is lame, no control of fire teams or switching between team members. What is the deal with the Single character mission?

I'll be trading this one in.

Different than GR 1.

While this game may have great appeal to many gamers, it does not have the same feel as the first game. In GR1 your path to your objective was open, but in this game you are tied to a linear path, thereby triggering "actions" at certain points. This game is much more of a "shootem' up" type game.......gone is some ability to use intelligent and varied approaches. There are other things missing in this game that were in the original, but I have to say something positive about GR2 also. The graphics are better, and........????......well, that was the only thing better for me. Hey, you may love this game, but if you're expecting gameplay like the original, then GR2 may disappoint you.

Great Online!

If you have XBOX live you owe it to yourself to get this game. It is a blast online! There are some major glitches in getting in and out of games but there will be an update to download soon! The outdoor scenes are well done and it actually feels like you are out in the woods crawling around in the grass or running around in some wartorn city.

A Good Game That Should Have Been Better.

The first ghost recon games had a really good single player mode. They took place in jungles, desserts, and cities. The story line was good just like the ending. But in Ghost Recon 2 the single player mode is a little confusing. In some levels you play as a team with three other ghosts, but in other levels you just play as one soldier.(that mode, by the way, is called Lone Wolf) So that is kind of unrealistic. The American Army would never send just one soldier to do such an important task (unless the soldier was a secret agent) but The Ghosts arnt secret agents, there not someone like Sam Fisher, They are highly trained slodiers though. The mulitplayer is a very good mode in Ghost Recon 2. The local split screen multiplayer is just as good as on xbox live. Overall I would give this game 4 stars.

Ghost Recon 2 : Different Than Original

If you loved Ghost Recon 1, you may not like the sequel. GR1 was a stealth and tactical military type game, where you needed to be at the right positions, at the right angles, and make your moves at the precise moment.

GR2 is totally different. Although it may have some tactical and stealth elements, it's more like the Socom series than the GR series. You can call it a mix between halo and socom since most of the time it's just shooting than strategy.

If you like a game like Socom, you'll love GR2. But if you liked GR1, you may want to rent this before you buy.

Definitely Not GR1

A lot of the 3 star reviews listed here are "spot on" as our British friends would say. The concept of moving your 2 teams into position (like in GR1) to take out a target is NOT present in this game. I stopped sending guys to the left or right because it was mostly a death sentence for them or myself. I kept the team tight in the hopes that they would hit targets that I either missed or didn't see. But the most disappoint event came at the end of the game. I was in a huge firefight when command told me that an "event" was happening...I prepared for it by switching weapons and fired 1 shot...and next thing I knew the mission was over I had won, game over. I thought "HUH?!? you got to be kidding me...this game was really hard for me and THAT'S how it ends?" I'm still in a bit of disbelief and want to check a strategy guide to see if there is more to it. Maybe events happen because I was too cautious? I don't know.

GREAT GAME

This game is a great stealth and shooting game. Do not listen to the idiots who say no one plays it online anymore, it is still the 3rd most played online game in the WORLD at least today which is June 13, 2005. If you don't believe me go to xbox.com and check. If you like shooting or stealth games this is a great one. The online play is awesome and the single player isn't about runnin around with guns blazing. Overall great game.

Stick with the online or skip it...

As a big fan of the original Ghost Recon games on Xbox, I was really looking forward towards Ghost Recon 2. Although the single player missions aren't as great as the earlier games, the online mulitplayer is really a blast. For starters, the graphics are great as well as the sounds and controls. Lag is rarely a factor online although the dreaded "red X" can be a real pain sometimes. Finally spawn campers can be stopped in this sequel with the new options and you won't find nearly as many "glitchers" as in GR1 or GR:Island Thunder. So basically, if your looking for an awesome online multiplayer game for your xbox and if you want a more realistic approach than Halo 2 then I would highly recommend this game.

Many changes and still great

The previous Ghost Recon games never really changed a lot. They were all FPS in which you could not see the gun in your hands, same types of missions, ect. Ghost Recon 2 dicides to be the one to stir things up and make some changes. One good change is the new over-the-shoulder camera view. You can also be in the classic Ghost Recon first-person-view if you prefer. The squad has most of the changes overall. You now only have three squadmates (the previous Ghost Recon games gave you five squadmates) and you can no longer take control of your other squadmates, you just control one guy. The squad command system is easy to use, but you can't give orders to an individual squadmate. In squad based shooters, I want to be able to spread my team out in a firefight so I can attack the enemy from multiple sides. In Ghost Recon 2, you can either get your squad to follow you or tell them all to go to a specified location. With your team all bunched together like this, a well placed grenade will blow your whole squad 20 feet in the air. The enemy AI is okey. They never really do anything that causes me to ask myself why I didn't think of that but they aren't horribly stupid either. They do always seem to see you before you see them. The weapon selection is good and you can pick up the weapons of fallen enemies and comrades. There are also a lot of multiplayer game types both splitscreen and online.
