Save your time and money

I've played this game for a couple months now and I have bounced around through all three realms, unfortunately, each realm is pretty much the same...boring.
I purchased this game after I fell out with EQ. What drew me to it the most was the fact that it was advertised that players can solo their entire careers, but with each patch that seems to be changing. I played in the Albion realm for a while and you practically have to be in a full group to do anything half way exciting. Even the quests require the player to form a group of at least 2-3 people. Leveling is extremely slow past Level 10. It took me almost 2 weeks of active playing to get one of my charaters from Lvl 10-11.
The game becomes pretty monotonous as well. It's nothing more than killing for experience and there isn't much to the story line either.
The classes and races aren't interesting at all. Some are just plain BORING! And the fact that most people in this game don't know how to group makes it even more of a challenge.
I was amazed that this game has won so much acclaim. PC Gamer gave it a 90%, and it was even in Cinescape as one of the best games of the year. That just sounds like alot of people have more boring lives than me, because this game simply can't hold my interest.
In my own honest opinion, this game is nothing more than an excercise in frustration and extreme boredom. If your into boring games, monotonous gameplay, and terrible models, not just the characters, but the NPC's as well, then this game is definately for you.

It seems that Mythic is now starting to ban innocent people from the game and

the only contact with Mythic is when a CSR send you a tell in game to say

"you have just been caught maphacking" and you are suddenly looking at your

desktop. You will then recieve the autoresponce from Mythic stating that your

character was caught maphacking. This will be the last you will hear from

them.

They will not answer emails and you can say goodbye to your hard earned

money. It appears as though they do not need to prove to anyone that you was

guilty and can close your account at anytime.
Maybe people should really start to consider this very carefully before they

pay for for the game only to have it taken away from you for no

reason.

Mythics responce when you phone will be that they can take any action they

want as to the agreement that you click on when you enter the game.

It seems this is starting to happen to an increasing number of people and

Mythic thinks themselves in a position where they can just take the money

from people with no need account for their actions.

LAG LAG LAG

I have played this game since the beginning of the Beta 3 phase (total of about a year). While it offers a vast improvement in customer service over EverQuest it is still lacking high level content. One of the main attractions of the game is Realm vs. Realm encounters. While this can be fun, what ends up happening is that once enough of the realm is gathered to have a decent battle, the lag precludes participation. You can't cast, you can't move, you can't target and you can barely type. Once you gather more than 20 in close proximity the distortion progresses exponentially. It is still a nice game and a good place to pass some time and make friends. There is a nice diversity between the realms which can help eliminate some of the boredom of leveling. The bad news is that so far, all of these type of games suffer from the lag problem whenever a large number of players congregate in the same place. Another problem with the game, is the need for a healer to be in groups at high levels for crowd control. I was under the impression that no single class would be indispensable, that turned out NOT to be the case. Also, depending on your class you may not even be able to solo.

Bottom line, I am disappointed with the game so far, but await promised updates.

Not as good as it was talked up to be

After anxiously awaiting this game to be received and after installing, I was dismally disappointed with this purchase. Gameplay was slow and very much tainted with ingame latency, not unlike usual internet lag (currently using cable modem). Control setup leaves alot to be desired. I would not recommend this game to any serious MMORPG fan. Stick with the best >> Everquest << Just my opinion.

good concept, but who has the time?

as someone who didnt play EQ, UO, AC, AO, or any other MMORPG before this, i thought before i bought that it would be very cool. and it is, to a degree.

the problem is that unless you pour at least three hours a day into this game, you will never get "good." and if you don't get good, youll die 5 times a day. and each time you die, youll have to spend at least five minutes running back to where you died. and it is largely due to this horrible convenience(sic) that i have come to dislike this game. unless you like holding down your up arrow for 10 minutes at a time, don't buy this game.

(...)

if you like the concept of this game, go to google and search for "mmorpg" and click on the first few sites that come up. search out other games genre that interest you. as far as mmorpg's go, im waiting for "World of Warcraft" by Blizzard. but for now, ive gone back to basics like unreal tournament, starcraft(you really miss this game once its gone), and diablo 2.

i seriously hope this review has prevented someone from buying this game. if wanna play a game of this type, wait six months and see whats out then.

Just the beginning and already blows EQ out of the water

I played Everquest for 2 years, and I must say this game is all EQ should have been and more. My experience with Customer Service has been outstanding. The graphics are phenominal, you must see a sunset in this game. The multiple paths that can be chosen aloow you to be anything but a cookie cutter player. If you liked EQ you should really give this game a chance.

if you have nothing but time.

The reason i bought this game was to experience the team based PvP (realm vs realm) The only problem is that if you dont play 8-12 hours a day there is no point in going to the pvp aspect because you wont be able to kill anyone. When i first started out they said you should be level 15 before you go pvp, then it was level 20, now im hearing level 30. If you have the time this would be a really cool game.

One Week Player Review

I am a long time player of MMORPG games. I did not get in Dark Age of Camelot beta, and as such I've only been playing for about a week now, since release, as I write this review.

I'm giving it 5 stars.

For me, Camelot is the third generation of 3D MMORPG games. I started in Everquest (good), then Asheron's Call (better), played AO for a couple months (bad). I say this so you will know where I am coming from.

Rightly so, mythic has done well to learn from the other games that have been published before. It listens to the players and reacts. First, off... grouping.

Grouping in EQ was fun, however difficult to find groups sometimes. But it was necesary. Very few classes in EQ would actually solo effectively. In AC, we all know grouping was something you did if you were questing for something, wasn't really something you wanted to do for XP.

Camelot seems to have reached the happy medium here. Grouping is good. In fact, you can do better in a group than you can solo. However, soloing isn't an impossibility. Even my cleric can solo from time to time, though I prefer to be in a group.

Finding a group to play with in camelot is made extremely easy through the inclusion of a brilliant group finding tool. You can mark yourself as looking for group and you can also use a "find" tool to find leaders that are looking for members that fit your class type. The leaders can also do a find and see everyone nearby who is looking for a group. Fairly easy. The maximum number of members in a group is 8, and this makes for some fairly diverse parties.

The classes are interesting as well, you start out in a "beginner" type class and by level 5 you will have to pick a path to follow for the rest of your life. As a Highlander in the realm of Albion, I chose the Acolyte path. From this, at level 5 I could have been a Cleric or a Friar. I chose the path of the Cleric.

Downtime is a constant complaint amoung certain MMORPGs, however in Camelot it seems to be kept to a minimum, most times its almost nonstop action.

Realm is very important, you can only have 4 characters per server and they must all be in the same realm. Having characters in another realm is fine as long as its on a different server, however making characters in different realms on the same server (the only way to do this is if you had multiple accounts) is frowned upon. You are at war with the other realms and spies will be executed. :)

The realms are diverse, such that being in a different realm is almost like being in another game. I must admit, I really only have extended experience with the realm of Albion. But the others are graphically unique and each has its own flavor.

For those out there that like Player vs. Player action, you have the option of engaging in the realm wars, storming castles, capturing relics, generally doing for your realm all you can do to give your realm the edge. For those that do not wish to engage in this kind of play, it is not required.

I will not lie and tell you this game is without its faults, however. There are some technical issues that need to be worked out but I'm sure mythic is working on fixing those issues. It is a very young game yet, so the few bugs I've come across are forgivable. But to me, they really don't distract very much from the playability of the game. I've played for hours on end without any problems, and they've been very enjoyable hours.

As I say, this is a one week review and I may update it should my feelings change. But right now, I've had a tremendously fun time in Camelot. It is a welcome change to the worlds I'm used to.

Excellent, but could be bigger

I bought this game a week ago and have been playing it for hours since. While its extremely enjoyable and has a very rich world, the world isn't quite as big as i expected it to be. Of course, there's still exploring on each realm to do (I just stopped playing D2, this is a great change), but i expected the world to be as big as EQ. However, this game has far better graphics and concepts (no doubt you've heard that RvR owns you :P), as well as tons of choices to make from which god to follow, which class, what you want to do in that class, etc. I strongly reccomend buying this game. frustration in the long run

Mythic makes promises they never get around too. They nerf classes to try to balance the servers. It is very easy to spend a ton of time on a character only to have it changed by mythic and made less useful. Mythic seems not to listen to customer feedback that would really improve their game and make customers happy. Pass this game up it will save you time money and frustration in the long run.
