This is the racing game i was waiting for!

When I went to the store and saw the other racing games for the PS2, I just said to myself, wait for GT3. Because I knew that GT3 was going to be the best. This game has the most realistic graphics. The cars look VERY real. Especially in the replay mode. You can see heat waves coming off of the ground, real time reflections coming off of the cars, the backgrounds are really GOOD and they actually have real world locations(my Dad came in when I was playing the Rome level and he said he was in the same exact street I just drove in), and see what it's like going 130 mph! But one thing you may notice is that you don't get ANY car damage at all. You can hit all the cars as much as you like, but you bounce off them like bumper cars. I guess they did this because the car companies didn't want their cars to look bad.

They call this a "realistic driving simulator" and it is....kinda. See, I asked REAL drivers to play this game and they said it wasn't, even when they played on the steering wheel. See, the thing is, each car has it's OWN FEEL to it. So not every car handles the same...just like in real life. And also, you can hear the differnt engine sounds each car makes.

Some people might not like this game because of the control...and I admit, it takes a while to get used to. This isn't arcade style driving, it's a simulator. That means you can't go 130 around a corner, you're going to have to slow down when going in, and then accerlate while going out.

In the game, there are two modes, a simulator mode and an arcade mode. In the sim. mode, this is where you have to make a living on racing. You start out with a certain amount of money, buy a car, and let the racing begin. When you win, you get more money. With this money, you can buy parts for your car, and believe me, you can just about buy almost anything you can buy....engine, shocks, breaks, tires, seats....and more. You can also get a NEW car, and get a car wash. What you can also do is test out your car. In the arcade mode, you are given some cars, and a certain amount of levels. You get more levels by getting 1st place in each level. But just because it's an arcade mode doesn't mean the control is differnt. One thing I like about the control is that it uses the pressure sensitivity on the dual shock 2. The harder you press, the faster you go.

The soundtrack is also nice, and the game has a nice replay mode after each race, which you can also custimize for your own taste. One of the games faults that you may notice is the weak AI. That doesn't mean you'll win easily it just that when the race starts, all the cars immedatly go into a single file line. But the game doesn't cheat on you, at least I haven't noticed any cheating. But this game will take a long time to fully complete. You can finish the arcade mode pretty quickly but the sim. mode is the core of the game.

You don't have to be a hardcore racing fan to appreciate this game and have fun. This is also a great game to show off your PS2 with, and it's certainly the best looking game out for the system right now. Just don't expect it to be very easy and jumps, and catching big air like in Crazy Taxi.

I purchased this game a few months ago from Wally World(Wal-Mart), a GREAT deal in my opnion. When i got home and popped this into my PS2 one word came to my mom, DETAIL. Everything in this game is worked down to the water droplets flying up from the road to the sounds of the car's engines. One thing I liked about this game is that you had to work for what you recieved. In the beginning of the game you start out without much money, and no liscences. The liscense test's themselves are a pain, but you need them to proceed into the depths of the game. After you get your first liscense and bought your first car you can start racing, and eventually build your career until you win the "good" cars. I myself have recieve, as a reward, two F1 cars(secret cars within the game). When I won my first one i thought to myself, this is what gaming is all about. I dedicated my time and my skill and it paid off, it was one of my most relieveing moment in my gaming console career.
My final thought on this game is....if you want a game you can jsut rip off in a matter of hours, get something else, or rent this and play arcade mode, but if your the kind of person who has the patience and the dedication to proceed in a game, this is for you.

To all those who weren't impressed with the DEMO, the demo lacks the rally version, doesnt incorporate the weather into the demo, and only has several cars out of the 160 or so that will be available. The gameplay will be similar to GT2, yet the graphics and the quality of the cars will be unmatched. This will be the best available realistic racing game, with intelligent AI(which seeks revenge when hit) and stunning weather detail, and not to mention the incredible replay mode, where it seems like the cars are real and racing hard. It lives past the hype and it earns the respect of many. Once the entire version comes out, it will hush the critics that criticize the lack of difference from GT2, which still is the best racing game out there. GT3 optomizes much of ps2's capabilities and makes racing games of all others mundane and antiquated. Dont base this game on a little demo at a local gaming store, buy or rent it and see the power of GT3.

Gran Turismo 3 A-spec is the best racing game I have ever played, it is a lot better than Gran Turismo 2. There are 37 of the following manufacturers:Acura,Alfa Romeo,Aston Martin,Audi,BMW,Chevrolet,Chrysler,Citroen,Daihatsu,Dodge,Fiat,Ford,Gillet,Honda,Jaguar,Lancia,Lister,Lotus,Mazda,Mercedes-Benz,Mini,Mitsubishi,Nissan,Opel,Pagani,Panoz,Peugeot,Renault,RUF,Shelby,Subaru,Suzuki,Tickford,Tommykaira,Toyota,TVR and Volkswagen. The 2nd best car is the Dodge Viper. TO buy a Viper : Buy a Toyota Sprinter and race the "Sunday Cup" for easy money . And then buy a Chevrolet Corvette and race for the Viper. When you get the Viper and race in the Amateur League at Gran Turismo All Stars. You will win $25,000 per race. Over all this is the best racing game ever.

has everything a racing game needs.....

This is the ultimate racing game. Hundreds of tracks and cars you can race all day. It's not too hard, but certain parts can be hard. If you like racing games, you have to pick this up. The controls are easy, the graphics are good, and the good soundtrack is an added plus. Basically, pick this up if you happen to enjoy racing games, you won't be dissapointed. Or buy the new one, but if you're money-strapped, this one's only $20. The only reason I gave it 4 stars overall is because it can get boring.

GAMING DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE 2001

This game is only fun for about for about a half hour, once you get over the gaphics and sound whitch are great well the graphics anyway And start to play the game you'll begin to relize the this game does not live up to the hype. For example the 2 player mode in the game is a joke you can race your friend but without CPU Drivers! any good arcade racing game will give you and another player the challenge of compeating against CPU players it adds a extra element of fun and realism to the game but GT3 lacks this feature so it's you against your friend this gets boring fast and there's no multi tap function witch means inless you have 2 Playstation 2's in your house along with 2 TV's and a really long usb cable then you can't play with more then 2 players this is unacceptable for a modern racing game. The other bad thing about the 2 player mode is that you can't use your upgraded car from your simulation game, You can use the car just not wih the upgrades? pointless yes? In the simulation game (The only thing that is fun in GT3) you get to play a career, You race and try to beat the CPU and the game gives you money for your victory's and the better you do the more money you get, And you can use that money to buy better cars and upgrade them with better engines, parts tiers ect. this is an exellent feature and aspect of the game and the only reason to even play GT3 However in order to progress in simulation mode you have to take RIDICULOUSLY hard driving tests, I think the game makers went out of there way to make this part of the game unnecessarily difficult At this point the game stops becoming fun and stars to becaome a chore without these idiotic driving tests i would give this game 3 stars lacking 2 because of the lousy 2 player mode. The controll for GT3 is awful! even with the best car you will find yoursef spinning out even at low speeds (40mph) if this happened when driving a real car there would be an accident on every street corner. Graphics are great very solid and life like but the sound is not so good Very annoying music tracks and the sound effects were way to arcade, I played this game through my THX sound system and it was load but did not impress me. Aside from the overly hard driving tests in simulation mode this game is very easy, Once you get a fast car you'll win every time, The games much hyped AI is as predictable as the first 2 Gran turismo games in fact it's the same game engine. Overall GT3 is the gaming disappointment of 2001, GT3 offers nothing new in the way of gameplay and features and in fact is for the most part is the same game as GT2. I would definitely rent this game before you buy it, Some will like and some wont i didn't like it And wish i had rented it because now I am stuck with a ... coaster. Pros: Great graphics Huge choice of cars Exellent simulation mode Cons: Garbage controlls. Overly hard driving tests in simulation mode. Lack luster 2 player mode. Can't play with more then 2 playes. Not link cable campatible Predictable AI Bad sound quality Gets boaring fast The same as first 2 Gran turismo games.

Must have for any car enthusiast

All the people who gave this game less than five stars either do not like realistic racing or they are just feeding you pure B.S. This is the best looking game I have ever seen. The only thing better is real life...it is that good.

Possibly once every year you are presented a game that simply sets a standard for the genre. You are offered a piece of history that will not be forgotten, and perhaps may be the indefinite leader in the future of gaming. In no way, at this time, will any racing simulation ever even compete with what has been formally titled Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. The title has easily topped the list of what the Playstation 2 can offer, and will live in infamy as the racing game that begat all others on the PS2. I have honestly never been so submerged in a game that breaks all limits for what was once thought to be inconceivable. All time is lost when you experience GT3, and 24 hours may accidentally be lost as you suddenly notice the rising sun to your disbelief. Only when you have felt the sheer presence of what GT3 can bring to your home will you ever truly understand the audacity that this title has furnished. We may need to go back and remember the first two Gran Turismo series, and remind ourselves of what has inspired one of the greatest titles of the year.

Back in March of 1998, Gran Turismo saw it's first release and defined what the PSX could present, and began a franchise that is hailed as the best racing series of all time. Gran Turismo 2 was the next addition in the set, and proved to add certain elements that characterized what racing titles needed to replicate. By far the best racer of its time, GT2 was even put in the imperial list of all-time best games, an accomplishment that is rarely seen with racing simulators, as the gameplay at times can become repetitive. However, the Gran Turismo franchise has somehow been able to break out of the mold as just an ordinary racer. They have consistently added gameplay that is both exceedingly in-depth and addictive. No longer is a car just an instrument for winning races, it has been transported into an implausible goal, one that when accomplished fuels the desire for perfection. Every level of enjoyment that real racing can deliver is almost flawlessly enlisted in this series, and for those of you who have missed out on the adventure have literally missed out on video gaming history. Luckily, however, you can still relive any of these journeys through exploration of an aged product, but even better, Sony has given us the opportunity to begin a new venture, one that gives incredible detail to almost every facet, and accomplishes a feat rarely attainable.

By now you may know that the Playstation 2 is an incredible machine. Words are barely enough to describe the endless potential it is capable of achieving. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec has taken full advantage of the PS2, and has given us a glimpse of what is justly obtained by Sony's next-generation console. The pure innovation that has gone into this game is phenomenal. It is easily the best looking game out right now on the PS2, and backs up these visuals with killer gameplay that makes the graphics just that much more enjoyable. Car and track designs have been created perfectly with their real life counterparts, and present the gamer and in-depth look at something that he may never get a chance to experience. Sony has truly put themselves at the top of the 1st Party leaders, and should be very proud of what they have accomplished with GT3. As soon as I started the opening video, my jaw literally dropped as I was preparing for the best racing game ever made. I quickly chose my car and began a journey that would continue many months down the line. As I revved my engine for the start of an exhilarating race, I could hardly concentrate on the road. This was actually how in awe I was of this game. The pure eye to brain stimulation that is created here is outrageous, and you will tell yourself how long you've been waiting for a game like this to knock you off your seat. I simply cannot rant and rave about Gran Turismo 3's visuals anymore, just to tell you that each car can get a maximum of 20,000 polygons and that it is an injustice for you to not expose yourself to the best eye-candy you will see on the PS2 right now.

The environments of Gran Turismo 3 are crazy. The detail is so outstanding it's seriously as if you're watching a video of the course every time. A CG video could hardly show a difference between the amazing track design that has been developed here, and I, for one, feel no need for the presence of one. Every aspect in the background is perfectly sculpted, creating a racing environment that is not only exceptional, but in all honesty, overwhelming. As you race through what seem to be perfectly replicated tracks, you may almost want to stop and stare at the scenery. This, however, will cause you to lose every race, and is not advised. However, what you can do is marvel at the sheer beauty that is represented by Gran Turismo 3, and appreciate it for the level it has brought to gaming.

When dealing with gameplay for Gran Turismo 3, you might as well say you're dealing with gold. GT3 has basically taken this glamorous racer to a height that few games can reach. It incorporates wants and desires that other titles strive for. Overall, gameplay is near perfect, but it's so much more than that. There are so many elements that need to be examined for you to acceptably understand what type of game we're dealing with here. In that sense, I should almost stop referring to GT3 as a game, for it is far more than that. Gran Turismo 3 is the pinnacle of all racing games, and it's stellar scheme and game modes are what set it apart from even the most unique racing titles. Simply put, GT3 centers around 5 different simulation game modes: Beginner, Amateur, Pro, Rally, and Endurance League.

There are 6 licenses that need to eventually be obtained and they include License B, A, IB, IA, Rally, and Super. Depending on what tracks and what level you choose will depend on the license you will need to get. A standard of Gold, Silver, and Bronze will be set, and will need to be broken for the numerous tests presented at the License Center. Receiving your licenses and taking the tests is a great way to get a feel of how the control setup and mechanics work for different cars. It is an excellent preparation course, and readies a player for elevated merit when entering their first mode. Also placed in the game is an Arcade mode, which allows players to advance through selected courses and cars, and also distributes a brilliant 2-player feature that initiates competitive racing. For me, the Arcade mode was also a pronounced source to prepare for Simulation mode, and offered time trials that can be utilized perfectly when getting associated with Gran Turismo 3. As you venture through Simulation mode, the object is to obtain as many high-quality cars as possible, while excelling in numerous race series and circuits for necessary funding. I found this to be incredibly addicting, and the portion of the game that will challenge hours upon hours of your time.

The considerable number of cars presented is far less than GT2, but are of higher quality. Each car is separated into their noted company and assorted countries. While you are only allocated $18,000 to purchase your first car, the process has already begun. What will follow next is the endless desire to own top-notch cars and soup them up to speeds of exceedingly high proportions. While easily posting some of the best cars to grace any street at this time, GT3 lacks the company of old-time cars, excluding the lone Shelby Cobra. This is the only element that caused me to remove a tenth of a point from my score, and is something I hope will be remarkably looked into by Sony. Granted, a small amount of development time was given to Sony and their developers of GT3, but the presence of older style cars is an aspect that cannot be simply overlooked. However, as I've stated, the gameplay of this title is incomparable, and the very small problems associated with GT3 are so vastly overshadowed that one may forget any minor flaws. I can easily say this the all-time most addicting games I have ever played. A bold statement, yes, but undoubtedly backed up with amazing game physics and a setup that may need a patent for assurance.

The sound executed in GT3 is overall a gem. Combining both incredible sound affects and a fantastic soundtrack, Sony has once again come through with an element of a game that can truly either make or break a game. When considering the sound effects, car engines and squealing tires are portrayed at such a high standard you may actually have to check in front of your house to see that no one has just sped by in a drag race fashion. The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a racing title, and besides a few setbacks in song tracks, an absolute enjoyment to listen to while racing. Your adrenaline will soar and your breathing will become rapid as you combine every element I have listed so far.

If it's real car driving you want, the control of Gran Turismo 3 is flawless. You will never witness the gross misinterpretation that a car traveling 180 mph can turn on a dime. Each turn must be well executed, utilizing the break and correct design path that will drive you into s

Best Racing Game So Far

Many people think this game has some of the best graphics ever. I would definitley have to agree with them. The graphics in this game are so realistic that I almost fainted when I first played it.

You start out with $18,000, just barely enough to buy a nice Mazda Miata (probably the fastest car you can get under $18,000). First you have to get some licenses (A, B, Special, and Rally). Once you get these you can race in any race as long as you meet their expectations. (In some races you can only use Turbo Charged cars, in some you can only use 4WD, etc....)

After you win enough races with your first car, you can use your prize money to buy new, faster cars. Although you can choose from many different types of cars, from Acuras, to Toyotas, and Fords to Mercedes-Benz, (37 different car companies in total) there are still more cars to choose from in the first two Gran Turismo games.

The only other problem with this game is that most of the tracks are the same as in the first two.

Still, the graphics make up for the two cons of this game.
